Xia Sheng and Yue Qin were a couple that would give others faith in love. They both fell in love at first sight in their first year of high school. The two dated in university and got married after their graduation. In the first year of their working lives, Xia Sheng became pregnant and delivered their son.

When their son turned one, he was diagnosed with mutism. Life was tough for the little couple, but it was still sweet.

Yue Qin’s company welcomed its new boss. He was an insensitive fuerdai*. During their company’s annual event, where employees were invited to a meal with their family members, the new boss heartlessly fired Yue Qin just because his son didn’t say any words of blessing. He stated that Yue Qin’s mute son was detrimental to the company’s image.

*Pinyin for the phrase “rich second generation”

When Yue Qin returned home and saw his wife and son, he held back the fact that he had just been fired and immediately scoured for new jobs.

The next day, the new boss drank and drove. He brought himself into a car accident and fell into a coma on site.

When the new boss opened his eyes again, he saw the employee he had fired a day ago. His eyes were filled with benevolence——

“Papa’s good boy, papa’s going to work, don’t forget to take care of mama at home today.”

All he could do was whine in rage.

This is so wholesome! Each character is so well-made. The plot is great. It's overflowing with familial love and friendship. Interaction between the brothers are so cute. The parents deserve a gold medal award.

It made me want to raise a child of my own (but nah, I rather adopt or become the best aunt there is). It also made me realize that I should treat my siblings well and treat my parents with respect. It made me feel the urge to create friends and long-lasting memories. I learned a lot.

All... more>> in all, I would totally recommend this! 👌 The story is well-written. It was so good I mtl-ed it. Not to worry tho, the mtl is understandable. It depicted the fights and reconciliation between siblings well. It's quite realistic.

PS. This is my first time sharing a review. When I saw that there's no review for such a great novel, I couldn't help but leave a few words after I move on to my next adventure (aka the next novel to read). I really hope other people can leave a review too. This masterpiece deserve some love ❤. <<less

Pros :

The plot is something I never expected. I have read a few childcare novel with female MC but this time it's a male MC. With female MC, I found most of the stories to be silly. This novel however tackles my mommy and daddy issues. The writing is so much mature and soothing.

The dynamic between MC, dad and mom is so fun to read. Let's not forget about the real son, he's a cinnamon roll that needs to be protected.
Spoiler

MC transmigrated to real son's body. Real son ended up in a parrot's body. The backstory: real son believes he's a bird for some reason and wishes that his parents has a smart son. MC on the other hand, wishes for a mom and dad.

[collapse]

The story gradually exposes MC's true identity and continues the story even after the parents know about it. Also there's some real blood connection between MC and the dad.
Spoiler

first time : dad realised that real son is in a parrot's body but just think that MC is a pitiful child with no parents. Second time : MC accidentally spilled the whole tea to mom. Third time : dad found out about everything. In the extra, we found out that MC is actually the nephew?? Of the dad

[collapse]

Another thing that made me really appreciate the author is the scenes where mom said she kinda glads she has some time for herself and where she and dad spent time together w/out MC and they both don't feel bad about it. Like they are parents but they are also individuals that need some rest and me-time. Rralxing doesn't lessen their love for their son and I think it's beautiful.

Cons :

Wanna have what they have. There's not much romance for MC but sometimes we eat dog food from mom and dad.

I had to say this novel is not like what I thought at all.

At first, I thought this would be a story about MC occupying a child's body then adapting to it and leading his new family to live a better life. BUT NO.

Mainly, it's about MC who grows up without love in the past and suddenly has a chance to feel the warmth of family and be loved.

If you expect to see some genius business child and teenage romance then this's not for you. MC of this novel is... more>> a bear kid who thinks that everything can be solved with money (because of his childhood circumstances), so he is so panicked and anxious now he has a small body and no money to pay someone to do something for him.

Then, he learns that people would also help and care about you because of love.

If you wonder what happened to the real child of the couple:

Spoiler

He became a parrot

[collapse]

And if you want to know whether they will get back to their original bodies:

Spoiler

Yes, they will

[collapse]

Every problem in this story will be solved, there will be no unfinished ending.

Lastly, this is a bit spoiler for you:

Spoiler

The actual child is a true genius, whether in IQ or EQ (he inherited his father and mother's talent), while MC is just a person with wide knowledge (about business). So the child will grow faster than MC that even MC acknowledges him as his big brother.

Because this story mainly talks about daily life (almost no business involved) so you might feel that MC is a bit useless (like he cried a lot in this story) but it's excusable considering his past.

There will be no romance about MC (only in the last chapter that we know mc's wife), but you'll get it from the couple.

First of all, super heartwarming, I'm already crying even if it's still just the first early chapters

But I really really wanted to make a review just because I get heartbroken in the "Little Theater" in the end of the chapters. Specifically by Little Kangkang's pov...

What do you mean he wished on his birthday "I wish Mama and Papa had a better child than me", that's a crime, noooo!

... more>> That gave me severe emotional damage 😔😔

"This older brother's so cool. If only he were Papa and Mama's son, then Papa wouldn't get fired because of me, little Kangkang thought." How dare you make me cry...😭😭

Chapter 43 just broke me😞 <<less

I'm really glad I decided to read this, it's a gem! It's full of comedy which is exactly I look for but in the same time heartwarming. I like how the author usually ends a chapter with a funny moment even after all the tearjerkers.

I usually dread mtl but when I saw a review saying how the mtl is actually bearable, I gave it a try and yeah, I still enjoyed it! Well, i'd still look forward for the proper tl to enjoy it once again!

The interactions between the family... more>> members are gold, and when you think a 4-year-old is even smarter than a grown-up but the way author put it was not exaggerating, so it feels good. And there's also insight in parenting which the young parents and old parents alike are struggling at. Well, a lot of family elements that many readers can relate. just one thing I don't get is the cover, who the hell is that student supposed to be? Haha. They should've included a green parrot instead (and owl and eagle, lol) <<less

Too good. It really hits on the topic of family love and education.

Spoiler

MC's birthday is on the same day as the little son and their names are in reverse of each other, so LS made a birthday wish to give his family a smart son so that they won't be looked down on because of him anymore. LS turned into his true form, a green parrot, and can now finally talk.

[collapse]

It's really funny how they get along and there's even a war with cats!

I absolutely love this novel. It's more about familial relationships and how we mature as people and how circumstances may mold us into who we are.

The development of the plot was also not too fast nor too slow. I MTLed the whole thing so I might have missed some nuances of the plot but it was still fairly readable with minimal headache.

I won't spoil the story but it is a quick read with a lot of sweet happy moments between family members. My fave character would be Xiao Kang Kang.... more>> His maturity and also childlike innocence is such a contrast and yet fits so well. Love his cuteness!

No spoilers since I'm typing this real quick but do give it a try! <<less

I wish this novel gets tagged with Comedy too because it is so funny!!

I love how the plot can be a bit cliche at times and yet the characters are so realistic. They are flawed and yet they try to just live the lifes they want for themselves.

There was also a feeling that the author didn't try too hard. But it had a lot of really good moments. The last few chapters were meh, but it didn't take away how good the rest of the story was.

This is too damn wholesome. Creme of the crop slice of life! It's filled with so many complicated emotions, dynamic characters and very green flagy family relationship! Super highly recommend to everyone!!!! Though warning, the translator or the author botched up the characters names in some chapters so we have to muddle our way through some parts.

This was so heartwarming and sweet. It managed to balance humor and slice of life with deep, heartfelt moments. Reading this felt like it was healing my inner child, and I love how three dimensional the parents were!! I ended up staying up late because I couldn’t stop reading, and the MTL was not bad either.

10/10 I would recommend!

I have read tons of novels here on nu, but this one is something special. It's so heartwarming, talks about so many small issues in life so calmly. It's like a healing panacea for the soul, filled with love and everyday happiness we miss in life, told with the help of a mismatched but somehow perfectly fit family of sorts of four.

I love a story that can make me laugh and bring me to tears only to have me smiling again by the ending. This is one of the best familial love stories on NU so far. The characters are well-developed. This story explores a wide variety of family circumstances, the importance of communication, strong character growth, the awkwardness of facing the truth, and acceptance of each other's flaws. The pacing does take a hit as the author rushes the ending through some quick summaries to wrap up loose ends, but... more>> was otherwise superb throughout the rest of the book. I greatly recommend it to anyone who wants to read a tale about gaining an unexpected family and the fears of losing it once they realize you are just an adult posing as their real child.

My largest concern going into this was that the main character might be discriminatory toward children with disabilities based on the novel description. That is thankfully not the case. He did say those things, but he had already planned to fire the character for completely different reasons. His drunken verbal attack on the child was out of envy for their loving family. What he did was wrong, but it was also not the hate crime I feared. It is important to understand that the 24 y.o. Kong Yue (mc) does start the story with a lot of obvious issues.

  • He is very arrogant
  • He is inconsiderate
  • He is aggressively defensive; he attacks others before they can hurt him
  • He is controlling
  • He is used to solving problems and buying affection with money
  • He is emotionally needy with a strong craving for love, making him a bit of an emotional scumbag
These shortcomings are not merely the cliches of a domineering fuerdai CEO. They are key parts of what makes Kang Yue a complex and layered character. He is a kind and innocent boy by nature. Circumstances have shaped him into an adult no one was able to build a sincere personal bond with. No one cares to find out who he is below his arrogant veneer or has the patience to sympathize with a rich kid. Even his closest and most trusted person is revealed to completely loathe him. His remaining family would likely have taken his original body off life support, if his will had not been prepared in advance.

Living with an actual family instead of leeches helps Kang Yue discover his true self and a new purpose for living. They will come to love him as much as he loves them. Don't worry! The real child does get found. The bond between him and Yue Kang (the toddler who couldn't speak) is particularly touching as they build a brotherhood and learn what it means to be human together.

The ending did feel fast to me, but it was still a complete and relatively satisfying conclusion. I only had a few remaining concerns. This would have been a perfect 5-star book to me if these details were addressed. Major spoilers ahead.

Spoiler

Note: Nothing from the list below takes away from the story in a major way. They are overall minor issues. I do suspect the ai translation from chapter 68 and beyond may have been behind some of the missing details (a few sentences seemed like they lacked context or had skipped key words).

Was Kang Yue's suspicion that his adoptive grandfather had something to do with his parent's death really misplaced? A servant had infected his father, presumably through a method similar to administering poison, with something (what I can only assume was a serious STD). The father planned to separate from his wife and give her all of his assets to protect his family. Sending away the money would have left the scheming adoptive family with nothing. They gained over 20 additional years of leeching off money earned by the adoptive child thanks to that 'accident', yet the protagonist seems to let it go at some point. The adoptive family was at minimum indirectly involved in killing his father due to directing a family servant to infect him with some unknown disease. It would literally be a mu*der plot if it was something like AIDS/HIV. Stopping his revenge so easily once he finds out they were not biological relatives seems a bit out of character for a person who resents being forced to give up so much of his stuff his entire life to people who may have killed his family. The kid hated sharing toys to his favored cousin so much. He DOES get back his money. It is the potential mu*der charge that is not pursued.

What happened to the one ex-girlfriend who seemed distraught and haggard over Kong Yue's coma? Is it the artist he gave a piano during his intense pursuit, the ex he meets by chance in a shopping mall once he returns to his body, or the new girlfriend introduced at the end of the story? She does not have to be any of them. I simply can't help but be curious about the ONLY character showing any concern for this universally hated fuerdai who was not an employee. Our protagonist had no real friends. His exes grouping up in an extortion attempt over a fabricated scandal left much to be desired in his backstory. The events I mentioned with the other exes provided some variance among them and gave some much needed depth to characters who lacked faces or even names. I am not saying each of them needed a full character profile. Romance is ultimately not a focus of this story. This girl who may have had some genuine feelings for the idiot was the only loose end I cared about amongst them. It feels like her character could have given Kong Yue some closure on that period of his life, beyond the quick flashback of his childhood we actually get.

Why did the author not give the fired dad a chance to show off his skills? We see Yue Qin's cooking and dad skills all the time, but rarely get a glimpse into his professional prowess. He made his way up in Kang Yue's company quickly based on his criminal justice degree and successfully solving some issues within the original company. Kang Yue had his family and friends digging away at his assets, but never once thinks to consult with the person who used to be in charge of protecting them. He considers helping him get back his job someday, at most.

What was Kang Yue's secret? He tells Yue Qin a secret about himself that he has never shared with anyone when he heard he had a chance of losing his memories after returning to his original body. The group jokes that KY might kill if his former employee showed up with this secret. So what was it???? Does the author leave it up to our imagination or was it lost in translation? My best guess is that our boy who couldn't maintain a relationship for more than a few weeks was a pure 24k virg*n, but who knows.

A really well thought-out progressive story with familial love and heartwarming characters. I'm not really a fan of non-romance stories but this one is an exception.

An eccentric adult without family love and an actual childhood gets to be transported to a child's body and a chance to live a few months of childhood surrounded with love, care, learning and growth.

Surprisingly cute. I started reading with certain expectations and was initially perturbed and slightly disappointed. MC, Kang Yue, was off putting at first but he starts to grow on you as the story progresses. It's not that he's evil, he's just really, truly, exceedingly socially awkward.

This isn't a story with glitz and glamour, it's more like mom's warm and savory soup on a cold, wet evening... making your heart feel cozy and cheerful.

Spoiler

SPOILER...

...

MC was drunk when the firing happened. He doesn't remember the details of what happened. He finds out that his body was in a coma at a hospital and tries to contact his people. But finds out the people he trusted didn't care about him and wanted to steal his wealth.

Later, he finds out that the child, Kangkang, has become a parrot. He brings the parrot back to the couple's home. After some time, the couple discover that MC is not their child. However, MC has come to like the couple and likes living with them. The couple do care about MC also.

In the end, the souls are able to return to their bodies with the help of a "master". MC and the master become friends and live together... as the couple's neighbors. They all eat meals and hang out at the couple's house like a family.

OTHER SPOILER...

...

MC's dad was adopted. That's why MC's paternal grandparents disliked MC. MC's dad and Yue Qin's dad are actually brothers... making them first cousins.
