Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.First of all, this is not a story where the cannon fodder chambermaid counterattacks and gives the main wife a beat-down!
As a lowly s*ave who had been sold a total of six times, Xiao Hua has long become apathetic to her situation.
In her past life, she was a cannon fodder chambermaid who was beaten to death. In this life, she decided to turn over a new leaf and live honestly, yet in the end still ended up being sold off.
This prince’s estate seems to have pretty good benefits? She could be released at twenty-five, and they’d arrange a place for her to live under their jurisdiction? They’d even get rid of her s*ave records?
Great! That’s great! Xiao Hua thus decided to stay in the Jing Prince Estate and do her job properly. It’s a shame she could never overcome the whims of fate….
The master she serves is a “mute boy”, with several influences above him watching like tigers eyeing their prey. To say she doesn’t want to be pampered is definitely a lie. This is the road to survival of a “discreet girl” who clings on to her master’s leg and is solely pampered, yet feels that he never pampers her.
The road from a cannon fodder chambermaid to a beloved imperial consort is a little long….

Even if the prince “didn’t know” it’s not excuse for raping someone. And even if it was mostly fluffy at the end and I did finish reading it for the sake of finishing it I hated it the whole time. Even if she’s happy in the end how did she make a life with someone who r*ped her and wasn’t willing to understand her? And the only reason he started to care is because she starting because interesting to him. What if that never happened?
- the chapters are pretty lengthy; perfect for binge reading. Lmao I was @ this for 2 days
- the MC is a likable character
- The portrayal of the characters are pretty realistic for the situation they're in.
- My only disappointment is that the author played it safe with the ending. A great start, a good middle and a mediocre ending. It's pretty much a norm for Chinese novels to have a mediocre / bad ending. I mean it's such a pity the beginning was brilliant
overall I think you should give this novel a chance. It's an extremely fresh and interesting interpretation of the usual "rebirth and revenge" genre. Contrary to the expectation our MC here isn't a unfavored noble daughter or a forgotten princess but simply a lowly s*ave with memories of her past life as a concubine in a courtyard filled with women who struggle for the favor of a womanizer young master, this lifetime, instead of going for a flamboyant revenge against those who harmed her she only wishes to be left alone and live in peace but fate has other plans for her, following some events she gets sold and ends up meeting the ML. Now, some people might find the initial setup of their relationship extremely creepy and well, if you try to use modern values to read into it it really is. A 25 years old prince that forces himself on a 14 years old maid is extremely unhealty, he doesn't care for her and she can't refuse, it's r*pe no matter how you put it. But, from an historical standpoint that's exactly how it was at the times, she is a s*ave and he is of royal blood.
He has her life contract and if wants her, he takes her, that's just the reality of the situation and her opinion doesn't matter. As time goes on we get to know the "mute" prince better, we know his past and his toughts and their relationship slowly but surely changes togheter with her status, from a chambermaid to a concubine to greater and greater heights. Having read lots of similar novels I don't consider him a creepy ML, I have seen way worst and his character and story setting also kinda "excuses him" (as much as it's possible), he grows into a weird but affectionate man and his relationship with the MC is really sweet. In the end this is a "pampering novel" and I think the initial setup is reasonable and at the same time the only way for their relationship to progress since both of them at that time were extremely quiet and reserved for different reasons. I've noticed that the author has done a lot of historical research in order to write this and it shows in both good and bad ways. The intrigue in the royal court that takes place in the middle part of the story for example is outstanding, the characters involved aren't explored much but the power dynamic is interesting and both the actions and the reactions to various situation are realistic, considering the main character aren't directly involed it's also refreshing since we have a "unbiased" pov. Something that might throw people off about this novel is the faceslapping aspect, the story never focuses much on it and the bad guys don't always face a satisfying retribuition.
There are two reasons for this, one is the MC "forgiving but not forgetting" personality and the other one is the author trying to place most of the villains in the grey zone, especially in the beginning they aren't even malicious, just petty or jealous. Later on when the conflict escalates and the really malicious people appear the author tries to deliver a realistic solution to the situation, some people get faceslapped here and there but if you compare it to other (well written) novel of the same genre it's kinda boring. Since it's not the main focus of the novel but only a side dish I found it an acceptable solution but it might put some people off. Overall it's a well written and well translated pampering novel that I would recommend to anybody interested in the historical romance genre.
