Song Shi’an had experienced a life filled with hardship and survival in an unknown dynasty. He turned to be a shuanger with a stepmother and a stepfather, living a challenging life. Throughout his journey, Song Shi’an had a steadfast belief that a prosperous family was the foundation of a stable life.

Having crawled back from the brink of death, he transformed his past self-indulgent ways and began pushing a cart through the streets, seeking out and buying various delicious snacks to sell.

Unfortunately, the Song family restaurant’s business was deteriorating with each passing day. His frantic stepmother and father turned their sights towards Song Shi’an yet again, intent on exploiting his newfound craft. The shuanger who had narrowly escaped death knew he couldn’t let them take advantage of him. He refused to become a mere concubine in someone else’s household and was determined to avoid being squeezed to death in his family’s restaurant.

In the society he found himself in, the law stipulated that parents had the authority to arrange marriages for their children. If a child remained unmarried after reaching the age of eighteen, they would face a fine and tax for three years, after which the government would decide their marriage.

In this harsh and oppressive setting, Song Shi’an set his sights on his cold-faced and handsome neighbor, Butcher Xu, who was renowned for his skills in the butchery. He packed a variety of delectable foods and took the bold step of proposing to him.

Initially, Butcher Xu disagreed with the proposal. Song Shi’an believed he was being looked down upon, but he didn’t give up and persisted.

To his surprise, Butcher Xu underwent a change of heart. He agreed to the proposal, and when Song Shi’an began making preparations to support his new family, the cold-faced butcher, unflinching in his line of work, sent numerous boxes filled with gold and silver, an extravagant betrothal gift beyond expectations.

3.8 is too little at least it deserved 4.0, although I agree with Someone who said it was rushed despite having many potential, but author give us enough chp to know what happen about MC and ml, and it also the reason why it comes out dry, and we doesn't have ML pov to know him better, although the setting kind of cliche if they make solid 100 ch it wil be good. It suitable to be a quick read, don's hesitate and read it ok

This is just a warning and a complaint. Be aware when going to the website the translator is using. It requires you to turn off your ad blocker. Thanks to the ads, the page likes to move while you are reading. And the worst part is that the ad at the bottom is p*rnography. So when you get close to the end of the chapter, thinking you have positioned the page just right... the page likes to jump so you get flashed. My eyes now need to be cleansed with... more>> holy water. Just because someone reads BL, doesn't mean they like looking at that kind of thing. If I knew a way to report them to have it removed, I would. Instead, I offer this warning to you, the readers. Please enter this website at your own risk.

As for the story itself, it's cute enough. Very typical MC transmigrates into another world with his golden cooking finger that instantly captivates all who taste it. ML is a amnesiac butcher who seems to be way over skilled (before reading the prior review, I had already guessed he'd turn out to be a missing general since they've mentioned the war several times). So far nothing really stands out to make this that much different from the tons of other similar transmigration stories. Fortunately I am a fan of these types, so that's fine.

Two things I like so far:

  1. Spoiler

Our MC doesn't come off as (originally) gay or straight.
In his original life, he was always too busy to find a partner, and even though a lot of women found him attractive they never thought of him as boyfriend material (which he was sad about).

But he seems very open minded as the fact that he is a ger (male able to give birth) hasn't seemed to phase him.

    And he seems equally open

to marrying a woman, man, or ger

    lol

    [collapse]
  2. How females are portrayed.

    Spoiler

A lot of times in these types of stories, females are badly portrayed.

Especially if they are family members or love rivals.

So far we've met an Aunt who was actually willing to stand up tp her abusive husband to protect her nephew, and even willing to leave him to protect her daughters and to cut off the relationship with her spoiled son.

Her daughters (so far) seem kind.

They love their mother and encourage her to leave the bad situation, willing to work hard to help support her even though they are just kids.

The one love rival we've met so far started off giving the oh no feeling of the typical spoiled young miss that won't take no for an answer and would later cause trouble for the MC... but nope, that was nipped in the bud before it ever started and she now supports the ML's marriage to the MC.

    [collapse]

I love it when the author doesn't paint every woman as evil incarnate

(I'm the first one who rated this novel)

If you are looking for a fluff, read this one. The ending is abrupt and I was hoping for a special chapter. There's not a lot of conflicts and plot twists in this story.

The plot is common. The transmigrating, mpreg, poor to riches, face slapping, horrible family members, ML having amnesia and turns out he is general. In this story, the ML was found in a river but in the other story I read which has really similar story, the ML... more>> was found in the mountain. It's the typical hunter ML but turns out he's the general. I forgot what story I read but they do really have the same plotline.

I gave this 2 because of the clichéness and the common plot. How the story was narrated is okay.

Anyway, the translation is still on going but I have finished reading it. This is just a short fluff no complicated plot twist kind of story. <<less

It was a cute little story. Nothing mind breaking. Followed the expected plot line to a T. It's a very pleasant story in that antagonists are resolved very quickly, faceslapping isn't severe, and MC has a relatively smooth time.

I think the story's focus is primarily on the cooking since the food descriptions take up a decent amount of lines. The fact that the MC transmigrated isn't super important - it's really just a way to give the MC cooking skills. MC certainly accepted his new life quickly without much issue.... more>> And ofc accepted being a Ger without problems. ML also has the standard stoic, super competent, wealthy, amnesia with a hidden identity situation going on. Honestly, the secret identity was really unnecessary lol. The author could have just had ML be a super competent hunter and the result would have been the same.

Second focus is the relationship between MC and ML. MC is just super sweet and ML dotes on him.

This story isn't a reread type for me. But it's enjoyable enough that I read it to the end. Since it was more slice of life, the ending felt abrupt and out of nowhere. I thought with ML going back to the capital, we'd see something new but it wasn't meant to be.

The summary makes this all sound better than it is 😅. But 3.5 stars for delivering what the summary and tags promised. And the writing isn't bad. I rounded up to 4 because for a quick sweet story, it's worth a try. <<less

It was a short, nice story. Nothing too major.

The romance wasn't grand or noteworthy. It's very low key. One moment they are talking about getting married for mutual benefit, the next they are in love? Maybe? No one said it and we don't see the actual development of feelings so I can't say they are.

There are a lot of loose ends. We don't get any closure regarding the MC family. They don't like the MC, well as far as the step mother and step brother are concerned. The step sister... more>> vanishes as soon as she appears in the book and we don't know what happened to her. We don't know what happened to the ML who went to the capital or how they realized he was alive or whatever. And other little things.

The only thing I did not like, and its such a minor thing, and doesn't take away from the story as a whole-- it's the MC maternal aunt and her family. And I don't mean the abuse, because there is nothing minor about that. That was completely off putting and it's typical of this genre. No, the Aunt children, namely her son and their treatment of him.

Spoiler

So the family is the whole prefer boys over girls and they abuse the two girls and spoil the boy. The boy is freaking annoying, spoiled, a brat and entitled. I get why he is that way and I can see why his sisters, the two little girls, would resent and even hate their brother for their lives being so miserable. I get it and their feelings are justified. What I dont get is why the mother would abandon her child and let him starve, maybe to death. He's 6 or 7. I forgot but like, hes very, very young. You cant expect him to act like an adult. I know that this is fiction, and maybe im layering my modern thoughts and principles to ancient people with differen values but just leaving him to starve at an abandoned temple is just not the way do to it.

[collapse]

I'm sorry but I couldn't keep thinking of the Aunt in a good way anymore after that.

So you want to read an easy, uncomplicated story about a guy who cooks and marries another guy then this is the story for you. Thank you author and thank you translator who took the time and effort to nicely translate the story. <<less

An actually excelente light and quick read.

It covered it's bases, it's not outstanding nor anything beyond other stories with the same themes, but it developed satisfactorily regarding their relationship in 52 chapters.

In my honest opinion, it could have been lengthened up to a 100 chapters, I noticed things going fast pace from chapter 40 onwards, and saw potential on some side plots, but anyway, it stay in its one way road to a simple story with a good enough ending.

It actually can depict a more ordinary transmigrated person living an... more>> honest life rather than the more dog blooded or fantastical stories. <<less

The story is okay and got a pretty nice start. The business is almost smooth sailing since the villains are quite trivial.

The only issue I have is it is too short... it is obvious that there is still a sub plot that is getting set up for another arc but it unfortunately had to be rushed off including everything that even the faceslaps that I am anticipating were barely mentioned in the end. Idk what happened to the author or the site but it really seemed abruptly ended. What a... more>> shame

Aside from that the first part of the story are enjoyable to read esp if you are a fluff story enjoyer. <<less

Enjoyable read.

Short and sweet slice of life set in the ancient times.

The ending felt a bit abrupt/bland but everything still ties up together.

... more>> The leads were cute. The story itself is like a calming read, and the chapters aren't especially long. I'd recommend it after reading a heavy, angsty novel or you're just looking for something chill to read.

Although the MC had to get used to a lot of things since he was from the modern times (especially realizing that some men, which included him, could get pregnant), he was able to adapt to everything with minimal rejection. I like that he acknowledged that some things were less convenient or he was hesitant about, but eventually he accepted it or was able to work around it.

Lastly, the cooking aspect of the story was highlighted but it wasn't too heavily focused. Personally, I don't really like it when the author goes into detail about how the MC is cooking something. Although there are scenes similar to that in the story, it isn't overdone. I liked that the MC was able to utilize his talent in cooking and became successful from that. <<less

Very good and cute. Not a blockbuster but the pacing is much better than many in this genre (ancient + transmigrating + slice of life + business building). This may be due to the length, but I would rather that than a 200 pager where I skim 150 pages of no plot. Also appreciated that there wasn’t too much whack plot out of nowhere.

Not a mold breaker, but highly recommended if you like this genre at all

It was a quick read, not particularly bad. However, it’s hard to believe a modern character wouldn’t distinguish between a bear cub and a dog and lack basic knowledge about marriage. A storyline where the main character have a special talent in cooking rather than transmigrating might have made more sense, especially considering that the modern background wasn’t utilized almost at all. Additionally, the excessive focus on offal, intestines, and heads made my stomach turn, though I understand some readers might like it. The mention of butchering the dead cow... more>> and eating dead meat was particularly off-putting. Despite these drawbacks, if one overlooks these issues, it was an okay read—nothing remarkable, but passable for a quick read. <<less

I didn't expect to like this as much as I did. But honestly it came at a perfect time (me, in bed, with the flu).

The translations get wonky at certain points in the story, but I really liked the overall warm feeling it gave. Granted, my brain was already half cooked with fever and meds lol

This is a very short, slice-of-life. Very similar to another one I remember about the MC being amazingly good at brewing wine? I forgot the title but I am definitely going to search for that... more>> after this.

Not for anyone who's squeamish regarding cultural delicacies and definitely not for vegans 😅 because there's a lot of descriptions of preparing animal products.

I wish it were a tiny bit longer and indulgent, with maybe a couple of chapters regarding the success of their family. But I'm still OK with it overall.

Recommended for those looking for a very light, warm, slice-of-life, transmigration, MPreg, to kill the time with. <<less

It's actually better than what I expected.

I would say, don't listen to the reviews. If you read between the lines, the romance is obvious and actually was pretty cute...

Spoiler

When the MC kept saying the ML and he were just "good brothers, " the ML definitely didn't agree and was already courting him at the time. It was meant to be a comedic / facetious moment because the MC had the modern mindset and hadn't adjusted to the ancient times as well as his shuang'er status. So their relationship had the same scrutiny as a straight couple / single man + single woman meeting up, which the MC was clueless about, but it was clear from the way the author set it up.

[collapse]

Overall a fluffy and calming short story. I'm glad the author didn't drag out the ending. It's good the length that it is, the writing isn't particularly genius, but the translation wasn't bad and the story is one of those chill ones that can help you recover from reading something that is filled with drama or angst.

I also skimmed all the toxic family parts. In general, those family drama tend to be the same and intentionally written with unfairness and crazy cannon fodder inteneded to raise reader's blood pressure. I'm not maso enough to torture myself.

There is one dropped plot which is

Spoiler

the author started hinting that the MC's mom was someone special, but frankly, I'm glad it was dropped bc it's just too annoying to have MC also have a secret identity that would add nothing to the story.
