Xu ChengYan had been together with the eldest young master of the He family for five years, always on call and he yielded to everything. Even though He Yang always treated him with a cold face, Xu ChengYan was willing, thinking that as long as he was the most special one to He Yang, one day he would be able to melt the iceberg.

Until one day, He Yang’s white moonlight returned to China.

Xu ChengYan saw with his own eyes that the man who was always cold and indifferent in front of him was extremely gentle in front of the white moonlight. It was also at this time that Xu ChengYan realized that he was just a substitute. Icebergs will melt, but the person who melted this iceberg was not him. The exhausted Xu ChengYan finally woke up. He chose to let go, packed his luggage and left by himself.

And when He Yang came back and saw the empty apartment, he just smiled and made a bet with the group of good-for-nothing friends: within five days, Xu ChengYan will come back.

On the first day, Xu ChengYan did not come back. The next day, Xu ChengYan still didn’t come back.

On the fifth day, Xu ChengYan finally returned. It was just that what was waiting for He Yang was Xu ChengYan’s icy cold corpse, which could no longer be recovered.

Three years later, He Yang was still the aloof and indifferent eldest young master of the He family.

At a banquet, He Yang suddenly saw a familiar figure. He Yang lost his self-control, rushed forward like a madman, and stood in front of the black-haired young man.

“Yanyan.”

The eldest young master of the He family, who had always been indifferent, was holding the young man’s hand tightly at this time, his eyes were slightly red.

“Go back with me, okay?”

The dazzling black-haired youth just smiled and moved the man’s hand away.

“Sorry Sir, you have mistaken the wrong person.”

This Review contains Spoilers, Don't read if you don't like spoilers

I was really disappointed in this novel. It's a HE for the MC and ML, which I don't mind, but they literally never talk about the problems, and they only get back together because MC constantly shoots himself in the foot and ML doesn't know how to respect boundaries...

Like the MC will always tell the ML "don't touch me" and the ML goes "touch"
MC: don't kiss me
ML: kiss
MC: Go away
ML: stalks MC
MC: I don't wanna talk about it
ML: ok I'll still say it and talk to you about it when you're in a better mood.

The white moonlight is a total green tea b***** and has long held feelings for ML. ML claims to only care for the WM because apparently they were kidnapped together & WM saved him... so it's a life debt only, and ML says he actually doesn't like WM because he knows the WM has a bad attitude... but then why make the MC dress up and act completely like the WM??? And why he never defend MC to his friends, but he always defends WM to MC and friends?

Spoiler

How does MC shoot himself in the foot? He coldly tells ML off, after he gets a new identity, and ML is chasing him, but the second he finds out ML is with the WM, he and WM taunts each other over the phone using ML's personal cell phone while he's always showering.
Example: ML is w/ MC and MC answers his phone that clearly says WM call. MC says basically "you want to call and bother him, but see if he will still come after spending the night with me" and then purposely seduces ML & has s** with ML while WM is listening.

And then ML is under the impression MC wants him after that because MC came onto ML... but then MC tries to brush off ML again, and of course it doesn't work.

The WM also answered the phone knowing MC was calling while ML was in the shower saying to MC "you still expect him tonight? he's taking a shower right now, if you know what I mean...I can tell him you left a message"

To which MC is super angry, but then says to the ML basically "I bet you're dirty and got a STD, I won't have s** with you" but he does, and then have the nerve the tell ML he really doesn't care about WM and still demands ML get a STD check, but what's it matter if you already slept with him knowing he came to you right after meeting the WM? ML has never had physical contact like that with WM btw, the WM is just a garbage person using his sickness to manipulate everyone & will purposely hurt himself to get ML's attention. and of course WM egging the MC and them taunting each other...

Fate of the White Moonlight... the story is so confusing... so apparently the WM's family was rich but turned poor cuz his family suck at business. We only find out at the end of the story, literally after all this BS, MC+ML got married, it's like the 2nd to last chapter of the novel that ML has randomly put WM in a nursing home a long time ago??? And WM's family is actually rich and doing business overseas and now the ML is asking the WM's family to finally take care of their son, but yet will still keep tabs on the WM health? Like he was full control over the hospital, staff, etc, like WM's family will actually check in with ML before doing anything regarding WM's health. whatever you can think of, for the WM... isn't that weird? Like you're his actual family, how do you not have any guardianship over your own kid, and expect ML to take care?

To which ML, I think will forever take care of the WM, just won't let WM come to the house anymore? But he doesn't even say it, the housekeeper just assumes that because she's like "oh they're happy, I shouldn't let anyone bother them" if the housekeeper was any dumber or malicious, you can bet the WM will stomp all over the house bothering MC time and time again, which I think he will because it's not as if ML has cut him off. And then MC s*upidly even says "if you really want to contact him, I hate him but I don't mind..." like really? After all you been through?

Back to the ML and MC. They really never talk out their problems, while MTL, hard to understand and I was so over it, anyways what I got from it is that ML will always use s** to manipulate MC, and MC goes along with it for ML sponsor his acting, his fake identity whatever the fake identity entails, and the s** is good to him, and he will be evil & do little revenge to ML when he can. Not bad really, but like... you can clearly the MC is really just compromising himself in the end.

But like 2 times in the story, MC has a meltdown and pretty much does bare his heart and past issues to the ML to which the ML only says "sorry, it's my fault" and then uses s** on the MC again, without actually fixing the problems.

MC tells ML that his friends don't like MC and they tr*shtalk the MC really badly in front of the ML, but the ML still insists on introducing MC to them.

MC tells ML that he needs to make their relationship official and stand up for MC, but ML will always only propose to MC secretly, but when friends and rumors spread about MC and they make fun of MC to ML, he doesn't do or say anything or clear up anything to anyone. It's only the last 20 chapters maybe he starts telling people he's married, but even then, no one knows it's the MC. The novel is 192 chapters... we get 170+ chapters of their ambiguous relationship.

The MC claims to be ok with ML hiding it but he's clearly not. And MC excuse is he doesn't want a s** scandal with ML to the media, but yet MC get caught in s** scandals left to right the whole story with multiple people, so idk what MC is trying to do man... ML does want to show off, but he only shows off to his cousin and his therapist that's about it.

Oh, what I really hate is the MC various s** scandals and misunderstandings with other people are just that, misunderstandings, etc and he asks the ML to forgive him and they become official, secretly.
But then what about the ML? He literally never apologizes for anything specific and he doesn't fix anything. He only says "I'm sorry, it's my fault" when the MC had his mental breakdowns. But even after, he really does nothing.

ML himself gets caught in a lot of scandals, and ML says to MC "it's not what you think" to which the MC is like "yeah yeah, I really don't care" when he does and he's keeping score in his heart, and he's always cold to ML until the ML manipulates him with s** and then they're good again.

If you ever heard the song "it wasn't me" by Shaggy, that's basically the MC and ML, is the best thing I can think of.

They do have a big grand wedding when both decide to reveal the secret and paparazzi everywhere but only after MC almost dies in another car accident or something, and again that's literally the last 20 or so chapters...

Added to my favorite novel!! ❤️ I'm not fond of drama but this one kept me engaged til the end. I honestly like the love development and story. There's a build up of emotion (if you read everything and not skipped it) 💕 It's realistic, mature and messed-up life story but really better than abusive novel since this focuses more on ML chasing MC throughout the story (title really suits). I also like the fanwei parallel world etc There's also character development in each arc.

1st arc (til 30 ch) : ML is scum w/ PSTD (due to his mom) and s*upid IMO. While, MC bears the injustices

2nd arc (til 113) : ML realizes his feeling yet forces to be accepted. He does things though MC dislikes them. He... more>> suffers fr PSTD (due to MC) and he seems to have low EQ. While, MC learns fr past mistakes & hardens his feelings yet suffers some trauma (guilt). Lots of misunderstanding 😅 The chara here are somewhat annoying, but their actions are understandable. They are driven by their emotion not by reason.

3rd arc: ML matures a little and considers MC's opinion. He becomes gentle and enduring too. While, MC learns to accept himself and loves again. My favorite part c140 onwards 💕 got lots of dog food.

At ch80, the book and author explained that the ML didn't treat MC as substitute and there were "misunderstandings". Eventually, I feel bad & sympathy for ML, well it's a consequence of his early actions anyway. A realistic portrayal of MC since there is no such as thing as pure white nor pure black. He likes ML but he can't be the old Xu Chengyan, since adversities changed his perspective and personality. I classified it as mature BL. The story has depth and keeps me engaged til current chapter. The author has only around ch30 for MC's suffering with ML lolXD not too short and not too long considering the length of novel. The story building is great. But it's very depressing in the middle and I want to drop it. I want to eat dog food instead!!!

In Qinzhou arc, MC does the hurtful things that the ML did to him. I am pissed with ML lolXD but not so much mad since the ML has these signs of problem psychologically. In last arc is the HE.

Downside: misunderstandings and ML's halo like ML keeps skipping work without getting bankrupt and is successful despite low in EQ

I noticed in the first 100 chapters that the ML didn't even have a good friend. Even Yuan Lie pitted ML during his date with MC 😅 hopefully he got in the latter. The author's note is very funny too "Don't scold first, don't scold for the plot that I didn't write yet... it's not too late to scold when I do write it..." 🤣 <<less

I was hooked in by the description and finished the novel from mtl raws. It's one of those novels where you just cry and sympathize with the MC. This novel is not going to be for everyone as it has a lot of dog blood drama. But personally for me I enjoyed it. You went on a rollercoaster of emotions with the MC himself and you feel sad, happy, and angry for him. The novel has much more depth than the description or any review can give it. I highly... more>> recommend the read if it's one of those days you need and want to cry. It is definitely worth the read and I can't wait to read the translation~
Spoiler

The novel is much more than the drama. There's character growth and in the end there's redemption. As the story progresses you can see in the background yes the ML turns paranoid about losing the MC, but he also comes in terms with himself about how badly he treats the MC and he wants to learn to be a better partner and person for him. There are important turning points that trigger this but it all helps him with his redemption. And as for the MC he also learns to voice out his opinions and after going through a traumatic event he also changes into a different person which is understandable. As two new people, the MC and ML become able to understand each other better and they become better because of it. It's finding love after you lost it and never wanting to part again.

This wife chasing crematorium is not so bad, but also not so good in my opinion. The first 30 chapters showed how ML treated MC, and honestly, I really can't forgive ML. Not only is his treatment towards MC just downright despicable, how the author made "excuses" for those actions in the later part of the story are also just doesn't sit well with me. These excuses are just way too poor and give the ML more negative points from me. Don't get me wrong, the problem isn't just on... more>> ML. The only saving grace of this story and the only sane person seems to be Jiang Lin only. Even JL's partner isn't so good to me because he also kind of helping ML chase MC, though maybe that was because he didn't know the extend and details of how ML treated MC.

On MC:

He is way too much of a pushover and passive in the relationship that he actually accepts being treated like that until he know about the white moonlight.

Spoiler

Also, his identity theft is kind of problematic. I get that he might feel that he had no one who actually care about him then, topped with the grandma who wrongly recognized him as her grandson and his supposed declaration of death, replacing QZ is a tempting choice, but still...

[collapse]

On ML, which is basically 90% of the problem here:

He is extremely inconsiderate, like any scum gong in chinese stories, and his treatment to MC can be described as "you follow my rules, you can be discarded any time". Like, man, I would treat stranger better than he to MC, though MC is also at fault for keep yielding to him. As I said, his "excuses" are really s*upid.

Spoiler

I mean, the excuse that ML actually never liked Shen Xiuzhu (the white moonlight), but still treats him tenderly, and it was definitely not in a "I care for you because I kind of owe you" as the author stated later, is reallllllyyyy s*upid and makes me grits my teeth.

Same goes with how ML "dresses MC like white moonlight" was just "white moonlight bought the products himself" while ML didn't care about MC so MC received the products from ML's mom company and use them because it was from ML. Like, b*tch, ML's so called friends all insinuating that MC was white moonlight stand in

The "friends" also said that MC is "just a little lover (aka not in a relationship, as ML never actually made clear what kind of relationship they were in) " as ML had actually said, and he keep saying nothing when those "friends" literally bullied MC in front of ML. And ML still had the audacity to say (later in the story) that he actually considers them to be in a relationship and that there is actually no one (SXZ) in that relationship???? And the audacity of ML, to brought MC back to meet the so called friends who bullied MC????

Also, as pointed by another reviewer, even when he tries to repent, he keep forcing himself on MC (both s*xual and not, despite MC's protests to stop pestering him and touching him). Only later in the story would he try to stop and change, and even then he seems to take MC's "no" as "later". I also got the vibe that seems to be kind of obsessed with s*x with MC.

Overall, even after he "repent", he still seem to be an ass. Though he acknowledged that his treatment towards MC was horrible and tries to change and let go of MC

[collapse]

Honestly, I prefer if the MC ended up getting together with anyone else, just not ML. But alas, he got together with ML

On the plus side, the pain ML went through is superb and I am satisfied with it. How the author depict his pain when the realization that MC was gone was super satisfying. Also
Spoiler

how MC pretends to get together with ML after grandma's death and the rejected proposal when the 3 months contract ended (they will get together and get married much later after this event)

[collapse]
was really satisfying; I was ready to wrote 2k words angry essay when I thought he would really get together again with ML just like that, but man, It was satisfying. Just for ML's pain alone, I rate this 4 stars <<less

The first part's really full of tears and you'd really feel for the shou with how he was 'mistreated' by the gong and his crappy, elitist friends. At the start of the story, the two are already living together and have a s*xual relationship. The shou is in love with the gong and is very obedient to him. He's kind and is often very naive with how he sees the world. He met the gong when he was very young and dove right into the relationship. The gong is passive... more>> and emotionally stunted and neglectful of the shou but you'll understand him better once you read about his background. The shou is content with how their relationship works until the gong's 'white moonlight' came. This is where the angst and conflict really come from.

Spoiler

The story had so much potential and I was starting to really get into the angsty part at the beginning. However, the plot holes really started to show as I read on. One thing that really bothered me is how unprofessional the psychologist was. I know, I'm in the same field as him. There's a conflict of interest if you are treating your friends or even an acquaintance. That's a no no. And, it's really not acceptable to have any s*xual or romantic relationship with your patient, former or current. That's a pandora's box you don't want to open. Well, some say it's ok after a few years have passed but it's really a conflict. Second, the shou's personality changes so dramatically from the first part to the second part to the third part. It was a whole lot of mess but somehow understandable because of his trauma. But boy, he's become manipulative and sadistic by the middle of the story. The gong also is in another whole level of simping, which is again understandable bec he almost lost the shou and bec of his background

[collapse]

Spoiler

The whole story is a repetition of the same thing: which is, the shou becomes pissed and the gong tries to be a simp. The first part is very cohesive and has great potential but by the middle and last part, I feel like the author just tried to wing the plot. The craziest thing about it, is that somehow, there are good explanations about their attitudes and the changes in their personalities but there are massive plot holes to counter them

[collapse]

What I like about it, is the author provided enough back story for the characters to know why they are behaving the way they do. The loose ends of their backgrounds are tied by the end. I like the first part but the middle part and last part really dragged on and I find myself heaving a big sigh with how the author missed writing a potentially good plot. <<less

Personally I thought this was a very heart-warming read, and I both like and dislike the text at the same time. I like the exploration of their emotional and psychological side, their relationships with others and how it doesn't shy away from showing grief in different forms, from expressing different psychological behaviors and habits each casts have.I think it's really surprising and fascinating, wasn't expecting it when I picked it up, especially not one that is so heart-warming and not tumultuous as this one.

You can see it in the MC's... more>> progress, which is absolutely fascinating when you contrast it with the ML's path -- the whole point of interest for me (in this novel) is how do you resolve being in two different places, having all this history, and not knowing what direction to go in a relationship that should and have ended. For me, in the 2nd arc (~113) I see it as the withering of their past. The main CP literally has a dying relationship, so how is the author going to resurrect it to life and not face slap themselves. That's the main point of interest for me!

Don't be mislead by the chapter titles, I thought there's gonna be so much dog-blood, but turns out the dog-blood/face slaps are moderate in nature, no extra external drama, just a lot of emotional line between the two characters. It's pretty smooth sailing for them, even if I think some of the resolution to the conflict are really funny (all the coincidence in the ML's clothes to the MC, the Shen family situation, it was funny in a 'pulled this sh*t out of my ass' kind of way) -- I enjoy that, I like how all the drama and turmoil came from internal demons and not so much dramatic circumstances.

Some reoccurring circumstances are really annoying and weakens the novel, like every-time the ML has to take care of someone, the MC thinks it's their s/o. The MC being in a car crash or some weird dramatic event like being literally in a fire, I think it's so ridiculous that it's not even drama or 'dog blood' it's just ridiculous and way too blown up at this point. Or the MC being sick and the ML coming in w/o saying anything, the MC being kind of incompetent at his job (or is shown during times where he's most incompetent anyways) -- there are other elements too, but some of the repeated themes were really.. ugh.. anyways...

Most of my dislike for this novel is actually how elements are actually really good, like it's doing it's best and some parts of it is done well when you look at the overall picture. But, the writing is mediocre. I don't mean this in a 'it's bad writing' but rather-- there's too many points to pick. There are plot holes, there are unrealistic elements that just jumps up at you which is so inconsistent to how they portray other elements in this story (it contrasts way too much, like yuan suddenly going to inherit his business and being a therapist on the side?? versus this novel being heavily centered and focused on the portrayal of different psychological behaviors/state of mind as they both go through/process their own trauma and grief??) -- the lack of actually expressing what it wants to express, nor describing (writing wise) what it wants to portray, leaving it mediocre instead of actually portraying the elements the narrator should've been clear with the audience.

The lack of communication between narrator and audience is a weakness, not a plus. Because it's not like a movie where you can tell or use your brain holes to fill it in, when the MC or ML is going through stuff and we see it from their perspective, we're only given half of the context clues of what we should understand. The rest of their behaviour is un-described, which would be nice as a literary text where you can interpretate it. But sadly, you can't. Because it literally does not do anything to help you understand them.

It just sucks, and it's so easily fixable that it frustrates me. Like just give me a reoccurring metaphor, give me one more line like how his eyes glazed over or if he stares at something particularly longer than a second. Give me something to grip onto and give me consistency, not just.. not doing anything lmao. It makes me dislike this text because it could be great, but it's very careless with the details and these details are so important to the audience entering this world.

Everything else I think the other reviews already mentioned, but yeah to me I personally both like and dislike this text at the same time. I felt like I was bathing in a warm stream reading, there's no turmoil, no emotional burden. But it's gripping and fascinating enough that I want to know the ending, I want to know how they'll resolve their emotional state and relationship. I like the exploration of different characters using relationships as the main key, I think some of the elements once you look into it is really fascinating. I like what the novel is doing, and I think it's doing it well. But at the same time, I hate mediocracy. I hate that it has all these gems and golds and yet its buried under everything that is not good about this novel, which is alot. I hate that it's easily fixable with more care, more time. It's really apparent that it could be better, some scenes could've been cut or been better, but it doesn't do it.

I'd recommend this to others if they're into emotional line, not too much drama, want to explore wife chasing crematorium or is interested in the plot of ('so how are they going to get back together when their relationship is dead?') -- I think this is perfect for a coward like me, who doesn't do well with too much stimulation (and the face slaps aren't coming quickly enough) so anyone else who wants a novel where you're walking in a park (bc this novel really pace itself as a walk, I think the prelude to his 'death' was up to chapter 30 lmao) -- perhaps you can give it a go! <<less

Hmm, I mtled this novel and read to 50 chapters. Actually, the plot's pretty good. It has the standard cold-faced lukewarm ML, gentle MC who's in unrequited love with ML, and a green tea white moonlight.

Spoiler

Yea, I really think the white moonlight here is a total green tea b*tch. You guys will see when you read. Like how he interrupts every time the MC sends smth to Ml, or when the MC calls ML. Even the seafood incident, yeah I totally know he did this on purpose. Don't get me started. Even though he did no actual harm to our MC, he's the one I hate the most in this novel.

[collapse]

Well, another thing I don't actually quite get is ML's feelings for the MC.

Spoiler

Like I mean, at first, the way the author wrote made the readers think "MC was actually a stand-in for ML's white moonlight." And when that green tea bit*h came back to China, it was like totally obvious, if we look at how the ML treats the green tea bit*h and the MC.

[collapse]

Spoiler

But later, after the MC died (fake death actually), it was like there was no longer that green tea bit*h in Ml's eye anymore. And the author wanted us to think that every action the ML did while the MC was alive didn't have anything to do with the white moonlight. For example, the photo album. MC thought ML was watching his and the white moonlight's photos together, but it turned out it was because the ML missed his mom, and the album was what the Ml's mom made for him. I was like -->_--> Mind you, the Ml's mom had been dead for a long time, so well maybe it makes sense (no?)

[collapse]

Anyway, another thing I don't really like is how the MC was using another character's name. Qin Zhou, is literally a real cannon fodder of this novel. He was there, just to die so that MC can use his identity. I am not really blaming MC for his decision, cause it can be seen that MC was actually quite guilty about using his identity. But whatever, I just pity the real guy who died there.

Well, I have just read one-fourth of a novel, I guess. So, maybe the author will explain to us about the ML's actual feelings for our MC, and why he did those things, like dressing up the MC so that he will look like the green tea b*tch, and many more u know.

Spoiler

Also, I don't actually see how the ML fell in love with MC. The way I see it, the MC was just an errand boy for the Ml. Like, cooking for him, sending documents, or coming to pick him up from the bar when the ML is drunk. Yeah, I don't see where the ML fell in love. It was like only after his death, ML abruptly realized his true feelings. --≫_-->

[collapse]

Spoiler

Actually, I also want to know how our MC survived the car accident, I mean the other two people died because of the explosion, and our MC had his leg stuck when the car fell off the cliff. So, I really want to know how he managed to survive.

[collapse]

And, I totally loved the Ml's cousin.

Spoiler

He was the only one who genuinely cared for our MC, and he was the one who did everything for the MC's funeral and stuff. I also loved it, when he saw the MC again, he was like a puppy meeting the long-lost owner again. ≫<

[collapse]

At least, for now, I don't have the intention of continuing this novel (not because it is bad tho). Maybe, when the official translations are out, I will read again.

It was at least a good read, filled with dog blood, it also has a bit of angst. So, it's your choice to decide whether to read this or not! <<less

A dog-blooded novel with a lot of angst at the beginning and some groveling from the ML later. In my opinion there was not enough groveling but the MC was always in love with the ML so he accepts him back (though the ML does mature). For me, a 4/5 since I enjoy angst (I also struggled through MTL but understood the gestalt of the story)

I won't even bother having spoiler warning for this review because I need to spill everything I feel about it and there just isn't... more>> an organized way so this is my warning for anyone who even reads this review! Sorry for the length

MC: Xu Chengyan who is an orphan who is a piano teacher and in love with the ML. He has been in love with and with the ML for 5 years at the beginning of the novel. In this time, he really doesn't mind that the relationship is pretty one-sided as he knows he is the only one in the ML's life. However, this all changes when he realizes that he is a substitute for the ML's white moonlight. He decides to take a break from the ML and go on a trip, but on this trip, he meets a tour guide named Qin Zhou. The sad thing is that they get in a car accident where coincidentally the tour guide was wearing his clothes and watch so he is declared dead. The MC was unconscious during the time so decides to take on the tour guide's name and even his dream of becoming an actor. So the MC goes to the entertainment industry and inevitably meets the ML again. (He does make sure to care for the tour guide's grandmother)

ML: He Yang who is the CEO of a company (per usual). He is a typical cold-blooded ML. When he was younger, he was kidnapped but his white-moonlight (spoiler alert: not actually his white moonlight, just his savior) saved him. He is largely complacent with MC where he blindfolds him during s*x, only does doggy-style, doesn't kiss him, and dresses him in a certain brand that the white moonlight also wears. Also, he has absolutely no idea what the MC actually likes and allows his friends to talk crap about MC. When the MC "dies", he doesn't even believe that the call is real because it was April Fool's Day. After the accident, he starts hallucinating and seeing MC everywhere and constantly carries around a placard that the MC wrote for him as well as wearing a wedding band.

The story after the MC "dies": So the MC becomes an actor and decides to live as Qin Zhou until he becomes a Film Emperor. The ML sees him and immediately pursues him again, refusing to believe that he is anyone else. That part is sweet at least. During this time, they become FWB for a time (mostly through the ML strong-arming the MC) but eventually break it off. It eventually becomes and acquaintances relationship then friends (though always with an ambiguous tone) to eventually becoming lovers again.

The reasons behind the ML's actions at the beginning:

    • Flipping through a photo album with white moonlight: actually they were pictures taken by his mother who has passed so he always look through them
    • Blindfolding during s*x and doggy-style: Apparently it's his kink
    • No kissing: Apparently he only kisses people he truly likes
    • Dressing the same as white moonlight: The brand was started by his mother and is still owned by his mother's family so he has always given that clothing to the MC (and the white moonlight also wears it)
Complaints on the ML: My issue with the ML comes from the fact that he didn't kiss the MC at all because he didn't like him at the beginning. This is also supported by the fact that he didn't know the MC's likes and dislikes and his complacency towards his friends. Also, I'm mad that he threw away the MC's wontons. He never once supported the MC. In my opinion, it was only the guilt of the MC's death that drove him to love the MC (the hallucinating was really bad on top of a terrible drinking and smoking habit). I think the author does a decent job of showing the ML improving as the story progresses and it becomes evident that the ML loves how much the MC loved him. (On that same note, I have no idea why the MC is so in love with the ML in the first place.) I appreciate that the author addresses this as the MC starts believing that the ML is in love with the 18 year old version of himself that was obsessed with the ML. However, the ML states that the MC hasn't changed and loves him now. The ML also points out that he thought the MC should know his feelings because in the 5 years they were together, he never saw anyone else.... Yet he never bothered to tell the MC and in their fight he claimed they weren't even in a relationship. Still, during their break the ML becomes a better person who can see how he has wronged the MC (he becomes obsessed with kissing him and spoiling him with strawberries)

Also, I don't like how much the ML just takes one thing and sticks with it. He really doesn't compromise at all and is quite a jerk about it. Honestly, he should be happy that the MC never considered anyone else because ML definitely doesn't deserve MC. In the second half of the novel, he just takes and takes and takes. When the MC starts a point system (where after a certain number of points the ML can earn things), the ML always looks at the points and is obsessed with buying goldfish to make up points. It's slightly endearing at first but becomes irritating as time goes on (maybe I'm just being harsh though). Also the ML is definitely addicted to s*x (though the MC eventually matches him so oh well)

What I liked about the story: My favorite character is definitely Jiang Lin (cousin of ML). He is the only person who is truly saddened by the MC's death and after finding him as an actor, he decides to follow the MC. Even when he knows the MC's true identity, he doesn't disclose it and lets the MC do what he wants while supporting him. (It is weird that he marries his psychiatrist-turned-boss CEO though

talk about a conflict of interest). Also I adore Qiqi, Xiao Wen, and Xiao Cheng. Adorable little characters.

As for the story itself, I actually think it is very interesting how once the MC "dies", the story is told from the perspective of Qin Zhou and never once Xu Chengyan again until he wins Film Emperor. Once MC achieves the tour guide's dream, the narration immediately begins in the POV of Xu Chengyan again which was a nice touch.

I also liked how the ML constantly proposes to the MC (with an incredibly expensive sapphire no less), but in the end the MC proposes to the ML. (But I do think it's weird that they actually get married before the ML even says "I love you" for the first time. I really can't get past that but I guess the MC loves him too much to ever move on) That was a pretty cute ending. They basically just enter a honeymoon phase once they get together and never exit from it. Honestly, most of their interactions at the end of the story are just them having s*x.

The ML definitely has more character growth than the MC. The MC I think lacks a lot of backbone when it comes to denying the ML. He always makes these attempts to say "no" but in the end the ML wins (though that just shows how hard-headed the ML is). MC does show some backbone when he stands up to the ML's "friends" but when it comes to the ML he may as well be a limp noodle.

In summary: This story did in fact make me cry which I liked. I enjoy angst and groveling, so it was nice to see the ML make up for his mistakes (and this occurs over the course of 2-4 years after they reunite) and their relationship becomes quite cute in the later parts of the story. I also like that the MC pursues a career in acting, though it is a little odd that he becomes so different from who he was at the beginning? Like he doesn't even play piano anymore so it's a little hard to tell if he truly likes anything apart from the ML. In that respect, I think the MC is more 2D than the ML, though he definitely feels guilty for stealing the life of the tour guide. If you like angst, I think this is an okay novel to read though I clearly have many complaints with it (even if I have completed it and even reread it). Their relationship did grow, but in all honesty most of their relationship is based on lust and guilt, yet somehow I liked it. I apologize for this very messy review but I just had to say how I felt about it. <<less

Don't expect much logic reading this, it's somewhat brainless dog blood drama

Spoiler

It was virtually impossible for the MC to survive his car accident, he had a huge gash on his leg, and he crawled and fell into a river before being rescued downstream. Blood doesn't coagulate in flowing water, he should have died of blood loss, added to the fact that it was a poor village, and a nameless doctor rescued him, how tf would he manage to get a blood transfusion.

[collapse]

I see most of the people criticizing the MC for not being assertive, but he did try and express his opinion, but the ML was the one keeping the relationship from developing further, shooing the MC away at every opportunity. I didn't think the redemption part was too long, it was necessary, if it ended earlier too much would be left unresolved. Half of their problems came from
Spoiler

the ML going to the brothel (a bar in name only) with his scummy friends always ridiculing his lover,

[collapse]

and the other half is the ML's character, there were way too many inconsistencies,

way too much of his terrible behavior was dumped into him having a psychological shadow because his mother died. Although it explained a part of his behavior, it was more like he himself was not a good person to begin with.

Currently reading up to chapter 92 via MTL. It's easy to read, recommended for those who can't wait for the translated edition.

Onto my review up to C92.
I feel I've went through two arcs up to here.

First arc where it's Before - before the accident happened.

Second arc where the wife-chasing part comes in
Spoiler

He Yang not able to forget our MC throughout the years, regrets of his actions where he didn't actually like his supposedly white moonlight but his actions didn't show his love for our MC then and proposes to MC on the final day of their agreement and our MC rejects. Because this proposal of love was three years too late, and he doesn't want to date now; he simply finds it alright to be alone.

[collapse]

Now if this was the end of this whole novel, I believe I could accept it. Here, our MC x ML can never be together. One loved and was disappointed. The other taciturn and now only starting to learn how to to love.
Different timelines that could never cross.

But as of C92, I think we are going into a new arc. Perhaps it's to relive how love can grow properly, to give them both a new fresh start after the previous two arcs. I hope and wish for the best.
-Updating once I complete

Till C125: 5 years of being together and 4 years apart. Both of them are now more mature, and the reader can tell.
Spoiler

Now that Qin Zhou is ready to be set aside, and Xu Chengyan is ready to regain back his own name, we are able to see him progressing on to focus on living his life, rather as Qin Zhou.

[collapse]

Till C168: I'm happy for them. Both of them grew up. Their love turned deeper. After all, at age 30, recklessness is no longer in their blood. Completed the novel.
I like this novel. I'm glad the author decided to use 10 years to grow our MC and ML. When only pain was the main memory between them, only time could slowly ebeb that hurt. This duration gave both of them perspective and time for healing.

Would they be better off separated forever?
I think there's always something that links them together. No matter what our MC thinks.

This is one of the stories that I would like to review. In terms of plot, the overall idea that the author want to tell was good; scum gong regretted the way he treats the shou before his death and chase him after knowing he's alive. However, in the middle of the story, the plot goes downwards and the supposedly character growth didn't happen especially in the Mc's part, I felt like he grew backwards and acts like a 10 years old kid.

Spoiler

It happens during the time when they entered the contract relationship. The MC keeps on telling that he didn't care about the ML but he is "jealous" on how the ML treats the White Moonlight guy. I understand the provocation on the white moonlight guy, because he likes the ML and wants to break their relationship to have him. But the Mc? Nah, he will tell the ML he didn't care if he sleeps with WM but will tell him to get a STD test even though the ML told him he didn't sleep with the WM. He will also not contact and ignore the ML and acts like he is the boss even though he was indebted to the ML for the hospital operation money. (Like make up your mind dude! Don't act like a diva and treats the ML like your in a bfxbf relationship. Since you clearly told him that you don't care about the things he do, then act like one instead of lowkey manipulating the ML)

Another case of his childishness is when the MC got sick because he doesn't want to clean the c*m inside his bu*t even though the ML wants to. Mind you that after the incident, even though he is still sick, he keeps on seducing the ML (ML has his own share of faults because he cannot control himself but the fact that he clearly told MC that he cannot control himself but still keeps on seducing him, oh well.) to have s*x again and force him to not wear cond*m and to c*m inside him. I mean come on, in the beginning you are worried about STD but you are irresponsible and childish by keeping the ML c*m inside you and ignore his pleas of cleaning you. And because the ML is very very very doting, he keeps on spoiling the MC to the point that he didn't only got fever, he also got colds because of that scenario. (In short, he didn't learn his lesson)

Another one is when, the ML is taking care of the MC because he didn't like to take care of himself and got fever and colds every time. After their wedding, because the MC is ill-seeker (wants to get sick), the ML banned him on eating ice cream. But he eventually eats one and even bribed a little guy on not ratting on him by giving the little guy an ice cream as well.

[collapse]

For the ML, he turned from an iceberg to a brain dead guy. He keeps on spoiling the MC even though he knew it will harm him like the one I mentioned in the spoiler. I know that he's correcting his past mistake but he should use his logic reason and stands with it. Because what happened was, he became a brain dead love follower of the MC.
Spoiler

He didn't even manage his company well because he wants to stick the MC all the time.

[collapse]

Its good to give attention and spoil the MC but do not make him the center of your world.

In addition, I would like to point out the unnecessary chapters. If only the author made the chapters shorter and cut some events which is not relevant to the story like the continuous s*x scenes, its not even tagged as Smut, Adult or Mature. <<less

I give up reading this... honestly I was hooked by the slow (but promising) start, even though that's been ragged on here in the reviews. I can appreciate a drawn-out angst. But it all comes crashing apart after about ch70.

Spoiler

Things I liked

  • I liked the arc where we watched He Yang grieve for the loss of Cheng Yan. The way he was very put-out, how we find out that he's acted this way when his mother died, too... It made for a consistent character, at least. It also gave me my favorite bits, aka: He Yang asking "Is it April Fool's Day today?" It sounds silly out of context, but it's so, so heart-wrenching within the text.
  • Xu Cheng Yan's lack of an identity. From how he understands it, the five years he spent with HY was him basically LARPing as Shen Xiu Zhi--constantly having to tolerate and adapt to HY's whims and gifts. Then, in his next "life" as Qin Zhou, he also is basically required to take on the boy's identity: from his family, to his likes. XCY barely has a chance to be himself, and so how can HY really miss the guy, if he doesn't even know him? What of XCY is he grieving? That's something you can count with your fingers; wontons, strawberries, peach bottom eyes, and his teardrop mole. XCY as a person is just very vague, and I saw that as a great opportunity for tension and angst.
  • XCY treating HY the way HY had treated him in the past. I tell you, when I read about him covering up HY's eyes I gasped!

That's... basically all I remember liking. It has way more cons than pros, if I'm being honest.

Rapid Fire Cons

  • Not enough groveling. This is a crematorium novel, isn't it? Why does it feel like the ML isn't entirely apologetic for the way he treated our MC? Okay sure, the clothes he gives XCY are from his dead mom's shop, and him covering XCY's eyes was him being afraid of all the affection in his eyes, eugh. But how does that excuse him allowing his peers to belittle XCY? Why make XCY wear glasses too--when that was one of the things the MW actually wore? Why
  • I too find it very hard to believe that XCY's identity theft could go unnoticed like that. For almost three years, too. I mean, doesn't he fly to the Netherlands for a show? Doesn't he need a visa or a legitimate passport for that? (This might've been resolved in later chapters, but honestly I doubt that it makes any sense.). Hell, how was he even able to enter the entertainment industry? Forget a stage name, he'd still need to present some papers and a portfolio with his information in it, doesn't he? When you start thinking about details like this, the story starts to crumble.
  • That... quack psychiatrist CEO Yuan Lie which broke so many ethical laws in dealing with patients. He also just seemed like the Wild Card.. HY and JL don't have to go to therapy anymore? YL is now a CEO to maintain his relevance! Jiang Lin needs to be eliminated as a possible 2nd ML? YL is now his boyfriend? Need a busdriver? YL is there! (/s) It's almost funny, but it takes you out of the story--which is unfunny...
  • It drags. God it drags. The first 50 or so chapters were... fine, but it gets worse once you get to the 80s-110s. It was actually unbearable, and it felt like it was stagnating hard. The story just wasn't advancing. Though, maybe that could be blamed by the MTL.

That's all I can remember, and honestly I don't want to think more about it right now.

[collapse]

I'm dropping this, but maybe I'll pick it back up when the translation from CG picks up from where I last left off. This novel is, at least, an okay read to binge.

This novel is actually quite entertaining. You will got so mad at the beginning that all u wanted is to kill the ML but later when u heard his reason it actually makes sense (ignore all the plotholes I feel like the author forget some points after I binge reading this novel). Try reading (Reborn As The Villain President's Lover / RATVP) and u can see the similarity there except that the ML in RATVP is a gentleman with good circle of friends but the ML here is involved in... more>> a bunch of tr*shes, and only later he abandons those friends cuz he doesnt want to the lose MC again.

What we need to understand before scolding the ML is

Spoiler

1. The ML and MC has never confirmed their relationship as lover despite living together for 5years. The ML's family used to sponsor the orphanage where the MC is, so when the MC confesses his feeling and chase the ML, the ML thought that the MC is his boy-toy/someone he sponsored. His friends are tr*sh, remember? It is common in his circle of friends to 'sponsor' boy-toy and they didnt take these sponsorship seriously. I feel like the ML is used to this mindset thats y he doesnt try to get pass the boundary. He tied the MC's eyes cuz he is afraid he will fall for the MC, but he still fall hard only he realized it too late.

2. The MC love the ML so much that after 5yrs of relationship, he forgot what their relationship really is. Its also because ML is, tbh quite good to him, that he forgot. I mean, the ML never cheated on him during the 5yrs relationship. ML never hides him from his friend n his family (even tho those friends r 💩). MC is too soft n too meek at the beginning that he never told his preferences to the ML, he accepted everything the ML gave him. After the accident, he finally lives for himself and toughen up, but we can see his personality is still soft thats why when they got back together, he still indulges the ML with his kinks.

3. The ML has some sadistic kinks. He likes to be rough n bully MC in bed. He likes to tie MC eyes in the early story and later after they reconcile he sometimes tied up MC's hand. Yes its his kinks, except that in the early chapter we think he is an as*hole when he did that, since MC misunderstood him as taking MC as a substitute but at later chapter, MC accepted his actions because then he understand the ML's kinks.

4. Shen Xx is a fcker but he is still from the same circle of rich family, that is why ML's friend still respect him, and he can afford the clothes and accessories that ML bought for MC in the early story.

5. ML circle of friends are 💩💩💩 and tr*sh, including Shen Xx. ML treated his friend nicely, he enjoys drinking, playing n partying with them. In later chapter, even MC is wondering y ML only has tr*sh as his friend when he can have/pick anyone as his friend since he has a high status. U can say that most of the sad things happens to MC is contributed from this tr*sh friends.

6. ML is really not good with words. He speaks so little, and he doesnt explain what does and why. That's how all couple have relationship problem, isnt it? MC is also too indulging the ML in early story that he forgot how to cherish himself. He forgot to be himself. Even in the later chapter until the end, ML is still not good with words (their text and phone call is always so short), but at least MC has started to talk to ML abt himself and other things.

[collapse]

At first I just skim thru the chapter since I felt so bad for the MC. I never intended to actually read this novel to the end but after the accident part, I really got hooked and start to binge reading it till the end.

I loved how the MC toughens up, and rejected the ML over and over until the ML loses his confidence and even almost paranoid of separating with MC everytime they spend time together and then MC needs to leave. The MC learns to live for himself, have a successful career and learn to speak what is in his mind to ML. I feel like the story deserves it happy ending after all of the ML's deserved suffering and effort to win the MC back. <<less

Thats it for me. I thought this danmei was going to be different from others because the MC didnt seem like he was going to forgive the ML. But it wasnt meant to be in the end hey still ended up together. I shouldnt have gotten my hopes with any of these dog blood danmeis.

Damnit I really wanted the MC to end up. With Jiang Lin (ML's cousin) because he was the only one who really treated him with the respect he deserved

31 of 194, I CAN'T GO FORWARD. I CANNOT. Do you like pain? Do you like suffering? I don't know why I read these kind of stories when I know there won't be a satisfying ending for me. I want to cry for MC, his life is just a sad mess. I can't get thru the sad part so I can't say anything else, I just know that if I see ML as the real ml, I might go hit him with my car.

Spoiler

MC loves ML so much that he went to a temple and didn't pray for sh*t himself, no, he prayed for ml's safety while he himself got in car crash and died. ML basically treated MC as a COMPLETE SUBSTITUTE, when I say complete, I mean complete. He dresses MC in the same style as his white moonlight and basically projects the white moonlight onto MC (his likes, dislikes, perfumes bruh... etc.). I thought the white moonlight was just a childhood friend and ML is the only ass here, BUT NO, he's also an ass. I didn't think the title was legit but it was >:c (tf? allergic to seafood and still eats it?? bit*h U BLIND?!)

[collapse]

Spoiler

at some points, I think maybe they could end up together, but it's just not working. ML doesn't even know what MC likes so when he's dead, he couldn't even mourn properly :). I did feel bad for ML since he's feeling the pain of not having MC around but still... The only two things that made this story better is the cousin and dog.

[collapse]

The beginning is really harsh on MC, my heart was aching every single chapter. I'm sure it gets better for MC but my heart can't take seeing him with ML after all that. I got hooked after reading the first translated chapter and went ahead with MTL (it was pretty easy to read), but my short journey ends here. <<less

I really liked the first half of the novel up until ML starts chasing MC again. The way grief is portrayed by ML after MC supposedly dies is the best thing about the novel imo. It's very realistic and heart wrenching and it made me have very high expectations from the second half.
Spoiler

I hate, hate the way the so called wife chasing is written. In fact there is no chasing. MC is confused and really likes to be treated as a doormat. He gives mixed signals to MC and then is angry when ML demands more. Also, I don't understand MLs feelings about the white moonlight dude. He was supposedly never in love with him and only dressed MC like him because of his mother ?!?! Is he blind ?!? There is no groveling or guilt from ML because up until the end he is never shown to be in the wrong. It was always the MC who misunderstood. He blindfolded MC in bed because he never wanted to fall in love with him. Lmaooo either the author is brainless or thinks all the readers are brainless. I feel like the author hated MC as much as the white moonlight dude to write him like this

[collapse]

The only good thing in the second half is the the dog and Jiang Lin. Even after completing the novel I still wish MC would have just left the ML and moved on. MC is in desperate need for therepy and support system who tells him that it's not okay to be back with someone who made you fake your own death to run away from.

Not the worse, but the author tries so HARD to white wash the ML it gives me whiplash.

There was SO much whitewashing, I complied a short list, that probably doesn't encompass all of the dirty laundry from the ML the author had to clean to make things a "perfect" misunderstanding but keeping in all of the angst.

Spoiler

1. The ML "didn't want to fall in love, so he blindfolded the MC in bed.

2. ML was looking at the scrapbook because of his mom totally not because he still had feelings for "White moonlight" who turns out to be his savior of sorts ???

3. Was never in love with his white moonlight, he just felt grateful for him.

4. Dresses the MC up like the love rival because of his dead mom or whatever.

5. Gave the MC cake from love rival's favorite bakery because the MC smiled once when he gave him cake, so he assumes he likes sweets

[collapse]

I honestly docked off a whole point for such tomfoolery. If you want a scum gong, please, just write him a scum gong and have a satisfying grovel fest. To me, its like the author thinks we, the reader are idiots and the characters settings personalities are really there just for show when you change things at a snap just for fun. The ML seemed really in love with their white moonlight, platonic and affection are not so easily mistook. I really love a scum gong who's actually scum, whats the point of reading dog blood dramas if you want squeaky clean characters all the time?

Another reason why I deducted another point is because of the plot twist

Spoiler

So, you just expect us to believe that they didn't do a proper autopsy on a patient? I couldn't suspend my disbelief for that scene because MC just so naturally took up someone's entire existence despite this person realistically having photo Id, finger prints, etc. Identity theft doesn't happen by accident

[collapse]

I will say the plot twist adds a bit of depth to MC though. He did a really f-ed up thing, but I understand why he did it. Human beings are selfish and simply want comfort, connection, and love even if the method on how such things are obtained isn't the most ethical.

However! This book is still a solid 3 star because of the way the ML dealt with grief. It was actually heartbreaking and evoked a lot emotion from me, a seasoned veteran in reading dogblood tragedy p*rn novels. The MLs grief was written highly realistic and I can tell the author put in some research into mental health/grieving and or had some experience with it. Which is something CN light novels are notoriously bad at. <<less

The first half was actually promising but it all went downhill after the accident part. This novel should've been around 70-90 chapters at most, it dragged and dragged with useless boring events sprinkled with uninteresting 2D characters.

Spoiler

Initially, I really liked how scummy the ML was cause it will feel more satisfying when we get to the redemption part. The green tea WM was also exciting. All of the characters and plot was there but honestly nothing significant and remotely exciting event ever happend in this story. I was bored out of my mind.

Mc:

At first he had somewhat of a personality. After the accident he just became an indecisive bit*h all of a sudden. He wants ML to stay away but then gets into a cat fight with WM, then claims he doesn't care but offers banging ML every night when even ML said there's no need for it cause he's that good at bed or whatever. Also author didn't even bother to give him a past, any friendships, relationships other than ML. The rare face slappings was good but there wasn't much of them.

ML:

He's the face-paralysed, low eq, cold scummy CEO type ML that everybody loves. A stale untoasted bread has much more personality than this guy. What bothered me so much was that, he just doesn't talk more than 2 words at a time. And when he does speak, he speaks like a toddler.

When WM comes up and MC is all emotionally stressed and feeling sad all he says to MC is "Be good, don't cause any trouble". This is what he says to emotionally unstable and distressed MC multiple times when he gets trampled by his dumb second gen friends and WM.

I mean I know these cold CEO MLs has to be "cool" but when the character doesn't even know basic speech patterns I get really frustrated. The whole novel MC and ML keeps talking about same sh*t every day and then they eventually bang. I swear to god author copy pasted half of their communication pattern and re-used them. It was that repetitive and boring.

Also I know it's a plot point but MC and ML banging every chapter like it's nothing made me uncomfortable. It just doesn't feel special when they have physical contact and it's even more unbearable when they start communicating so... There's nothing to look forward to with this couple. They are just that boring.

im dropping this

i was really optimistic for this story at first, but I really started having doubts 35 chapters in. I will make a bulleted list for convenience.

Spoiler
    • i thought this was going to be a typical revenge story, with xu chengyan ditching the shitty guy for a better life. this isnt what happens!
    • firstly its incredibly hard to sympathize with the ML. sure, some of his behavior is a result of his childhood trauma, but he treated XCY much like a servant. he never spoke up when his shitty friends talked sh*t about XCY and would even join in!
    • i saw a review from someone saying they knew people like He Yang and felt sympathetic. well, I had an experience more like XCY. when a guy treats you like a substitute and is emotionally cheating on you, you do not want to go back to them
    • i know im still early on in the story, so XCY's motives have yet to be revealed, but it seems f*cked up that he is stealing a dead guy's identity. his corpse was even used to misidentify him in the morgue! its kind of creepy...
    • i genuinely thought this was going to turn into a psychological thriller or a self-aware story about a mutually toxic romance. but its not, really!!
      [collapse]
it feels like the story is trying to gaslight me, to be honest.

I don't like mentally abusive relationship. Several initial chapters of this novel was exactly the type that I abhorred.

You need to value yourself before expecting others to value you.

Hopefully MC realized that it's being good to himself more important than the smokescreen of love given by the ML (if that man was the real ML) 🙄

MTL up to chapter 95, readability 85%...

Author was really an example of stepmother author. The abusive and the willingness to be abused characters in this novel was overwhelming.

No wonder reviewers gave low rating.
