But who will explain to her how her dead husband is still alive and kicking? And why does he look at her as if he’s rescuing a girl that had taken a wrong step in life?

Gu Zheng returned from the disaster relief site with only one goal in mind: to save his wife from becoming a villain in the future. But why isn’t she exactly as he expected her to be? ─ Gentle and affectionate, making him just want to spoil her, regardless of what she becomes.

I'll give 2.5/5 stars.

With the synopsis I thought it had lot of potentials, not only MC transmigrates to 70s even ML is reborn so it was quite interesting.

But it left me in disappointment. I couldn't find the major plot even after reading 70+ long long ass chapters. It basically contained MC day to day life with detailed description of what kind of food she prepared, even the ingredients and quantity. It was fine till some point but it kept repeating again and again and halfway through I even forgot the... more>> reason I picked this story.

I don't know why I keep picking this kind of stories only to be disappointed. <<less

The MC has the personality of wood. I don't know if this gets better in later chapters but so far, she's given me nothing to root for as a protagonist.

Her interactions with other characters are bland, she takes all the injustice in stride and barely strikes back, and shows no defining traits because she's so calm and unbothered about everything around her (and we aren't shown her thoughts either).

She pitied the original host for being so timid and being easily taken advantage of, but other than not letting things affect... more>> her, she's really no different from the original host because she's just taking in everything without fighting back or just... making her situation better by nipping things in the bud before the people who hate her have an actual opportunity to do real damage.

-

Oh, meeting the group of mean girls who had contributed to the original host's blackening? I'll do nothing except refuse to be their little s*ave, futher angering their leader but I'll just leave it at that.

Almost r*ped? It's okay, I'll just stay silent and let my husband handle everything. And as a bonus, I'll also look to him for permission as to whether I can escalate this case and make that person pay for his crimes instead of choosing to reconcile and let him go scot-free.

-

And she's supposed to be a modern woman with modern values? She just looks spineless to me. It would be fine if she had a plan or anything concrete to execute, but there's nothing. If she does have something planned, the readers are kept in the dark – which normally, would be fine if it has a satisfactory ending to make up for the wait but there's just... nothing. If there is, I apologise for this part but I'm not sticking around to find out.

I can't stay interested in this novel with such a lackluster protagonist. <<less

The writing and translation are both well done, and I find the story compelling. I really want to know what's going on with Qin Ling Ling.

First there's the barebones transmigration. All she has is the knowledge of the book she read. Next there's the setting rural China during the 70s. It's about the last place you'd want to transmigrate to. Finally you have the MC as a victim of the cultural revolution. Her game is definitely on hardmode.

Bottom line, looks good immediately goes on my want to read list

This story is quite long and dragging (for this trope), but entertaining nevertheless. The MC has nothing remarkable about her from a reader's perspective, but of course she's like a guiding light to other characters since she carries with her memories of the future. ML is your typical wife-doting ever-so-loving husband. Their romantic interactions are so sweet. They both express all the five love languages and it's nice to see that their romance does not only belong to the bed (AKA having s3x). This follows the common plot of 70s-setting... more>> novels and MC easily establishes relationships with powerful/relevant characters. Again, the story is dragged for so long and the descriptions used by the author tend to be repetitive. For example, I think the author has mentioned more than five times already how this character has changed from being a shrew to a loving and popular mother. Basically, the author keeps repeating things that have already been mentioned. The author also has the habit of narrating something then following it up with a dialogue that says the same thing that had just been narrated. All in all I think the story is entertaining enough and the romance is great, but the novel could have been edited to remove unnecessary stuff. <<less

The initial set up of this novel is super complicated, unnecessarily so.

The FL is a modern woman, a 25 years old assistant director of a Chinese company who died from overwork and transmigrated into a novel that she read before. She becomes an 18 years old female cannon fodder of that novel, the villainess.

Spoiler

The story takes place in 1975, the last year of Cultural revolution, the last year of Mao's life, just two years before university admission exams will begin and the economy will open up.

There are two couples in that historical novel. The main couple (the hero and the heroine) and the side couple, i.e. The villainess and her husband. The villainess is an educated youth and her husband is a soldier, a non biological son of a peasant family.

The villainess lives in a village and her soldier husband dies when he is sent away to provide relief to the flooded region in another province. She becomes a bitter widow.

The hero of that novel is her childhood friend whom she had crush upon since forever. Her marriage to the soldier was a fake marriage anyways. So the villainous widow interferes between the hero and the heroine and is punished by both of them, sent to prison (in the historical novel).

So, this is the world of the novel that our FL transmigrates into and that is the future that awaits her - prison! She is now a city girl sent to the countryside to work in the fields who just received the news that her soldier husband was missing, most likely dead, and she finds herself in her in-laws house.

The plot twist here is that her soldier husband is reborn in this timeline, he returns! And now two strangers will begin their life journey together.

There are several characters in that novel who get to live twice and know the future to some extent.

(1) The heroine of the historical novel is reborn after her first marriage in 1970s failed, so after rebirth she cancels that marriage and gets together with the hero. Her unfaithful husband is also reborn!

(2) The FL dies in modern times and transmigrates into the villainess.

(3) The soldier husband of the villainess dies in the flood, his soul roams for ten years observing the villainess and the rest of his family and then he is reborn at the moment of his death in the flood. He comes back home determined to protect his wife from becoming the villainess, pursuing the hero and ending up in a prison. He observed her for ten years while being a ghost, so he notices right away that his wife is different. Even her handwriting is different.

I JUST LOVE HOW QIN LINGLING AND GU ZHENG DEVELOP THEIR FEELINGS. Not that typical you suddenly married, having s*x, then became sweet couple (bonus the typical good husband who do laundry, cook, helper, loves wive, loves wife more than his son, loves daughter more than his son.) Yea, they take their time, it even be very slow since Gu zheng don't come home often.

1 transmigrator (wearing books) + 2 reborn ... more>>

so Qin Lingling is same as Gu Yao (Gu Zheng's sister) as they had biological father + stepmother. THE RIDICULOUS THING > so QLL's stepmother come to QLL for abduct QLL to be married disabled man. Of course, GZ come to rescue but QLL's stepmother do not want to lose the opportunity to get money from the couple. SHE JUST REALLY VILLAIN AS LIKE GZ's STEPMOTHER LOL (Li Dani) AND YOU KNOW WHAT THE RIDICULOUS THING IS? GZ ask her little bother to tell Li Dani to confront QLL's stepmother! THE AUTHOR EVEN WRITE LI DANI MONOLOG > Li Dani thinking that QLL's stepmother is digusting as want to marry QLL to crippled man. EXCUSE ME, EVEN YOU WILL MARRY GU YAO FOR MONEY! Li Dani thinking that she better than QLL's stepmother LIKE HOW U DARE TO THINK THAT. Sorry I'm little insane with this ridiculous episode.

[collapse]

other thing when QLL cooks some food, mostly I just skipped it. QLL solve the problem mostly with talking back, telling the other if they messing with her, she will report them to chief. Other than that, GZ come to rescue. If other FL having gold hand with space thing, gold hand's QLL is GZ lol. I'm not finished yet, might be comeback if I already finish it. <<less

There's reviews that say they read to ch70+ or to completion, but all I see is 40 chapters and last update being 6 months ago?

Time to find the remaining chapters.

Edit: I found the mtl, but lost my braincells. Hope this novel gets picked up again.

Ok I'm getting very confused right at the beginning.

So Our MC transmigrated in the book she had recently read.

Spoiler

In the 1st chapter: Original owner had a miserable married life where she tragically died and got reborn and cancelled the marriage. Met the male lead, fell in love with male lead but Male lead had another white moon light and then she became villain who was also very pitiful and at the end she was in prison and died. So Original owner lived two lifetimes?

In the 2nd chapter: Original owner is in love with her husband who died. So Original owner's 1st lifetime husband who? And it says her husband's death is the reason of her blackening. Like so after her husband died she fell in love with another man who is the male lead or what?

And even if it was true, where is the cancelled marriage? To whom was marriage cancelled. Her dead husband? What? It says her husband went on mission few days after marriage and then he died. So how did she have a awful marriage and died tragically? And if this wasn't the 1st lifetime husband, then did she get married to her husband after rebirth in which her husband died and committed su*cide after jumping in the river and our MC came about? What the heck in going on?

My mind is all jumbled up here

[collapse]

Ok I understood.....I think

It's very enjoyable but I feel like it's too long and the family life with children later has been relatively short.

I like the extra showing the life of the original where she also transmigrated. There's a plot twist, which is a nice surprise.

Somebody mentioned that the FL did not do anything to the people who caused the original to blacken. But I agree with the FL, instead of punishing them, they improved and redeemed themselves, especially the ML's younger brother which has the best character development. Because they were not really evil, they were still young and it's not right to punish someone for something they haven't done yet. And they changed themselves with a little push from the FL. Sometimes you just have to change your perspective to see that you don't have to make people miserable for you to be happier

(UPDATE: 2nd Reread - 02/11/2023) I decided to give it another shot, just in case. But again, I was defeated by the slow-moving, slice of life development. This time, I went even further just to make sure. And now I can confirm that this story appears to be mostly self-indulgent daily-life content. Kind of like sims XD without the mods. There's no direction, no overarching plot. The usual props are there, what with the multiple transmigrated/reborn individuals, but the author chose to go through the most ordinary route. If... more>> you want to read this, make sure to keep that in mind! As in, go for it if you enjoy slice of life. Since that aspect is not bad here. At least, the development between the FL and ML is drawn out, unlike other novels where everything is all about smut and stuff. Here, the author directly shows the awkwardness between two strangers falling in love, which was quite nice. If the rest of the story wasn't so monotonous, I'd have rated it more highly. As it is though, I'm only giving this a 2.5/5.

________

OLD REVIEW: Tried it out, seems to be not bad, but honestly kind of boring. I'm already the type to kind of dislike slice of life, and this one was mostly that. I thought it would go into the historical details more. But 25+ chapters in and there's still nothing but drama. Furtheremore, its drama involving characters I have yet to actually cared about. The author failed to really make me like the MC and ML during the introduction, since they seem to be more like outsiders watching plays happening. The side-characters are more lively, to say it bluntly.

Altogether, I'm pretty disappointed T.T but who knows? Maybe if you keep reading, it will get better. I just gave up because the TL was running out and, anyway, I was nowhere closer to liking the characters than before.

Basic summary of the story's premise: The FL transmigrates into a novel wearing the body of the villain of the book. Her transmigration occurred before the villainess had completely blackened. She had just gotten married, and her husband had gone off to serve in the military. The FL doesn't really have any goals or aims, at least, it didn't seem that way to me. She was quite bland. As for the ML he's a regressor that died in the original book but was given a second chance a life after spending a decade wandering around as a ghost spying on other people lmfao. <<less
