So far I've taken a great liking to the novel despite its particularly odd descriptions of MC's beauty... Though I find MC's parents to be extremely incompetent. I dislike her father in the sense that he really can't seem to take charge of anything:

His inactivity in helping protect MC... not really saying anything when she was malnourished and dressed in rags. I have mixed feelings about her stepmother as well, strictly because she beat her son and cried about it until she heard MC was involved with the eggs—especially because she thought of the MC's recently divorced father.

I, however, do adore MC's grandparents. I enjoy the interactions between her and her grandmother, and love the reversed roles of traditional values in their relationship. I hope to see more of them and less of everyone else! <<less

3.5 rounded up for the feminist grandma. I think it's enjoyable. You may say it's a cliche MC and plot, but I almost think at it's best moments it's a cultural response to the worst flaws of Chinese culture:

    • the eldest daughter in law representing how maintaining a patriarchal pov is narrow-minded as everyone roasts her the whole time for it
    • The grandma truly showing women hold up half the sky and is the epitome of feminism and overall makes the novel better
    • The grandpa showing it's just a gentle boy who loves us is all ya need
    • Divorce is not the end of the world and shows it's not for either man or woman
    • Actually sympathizing for depression and suicide (low-key)
    • FatherSss who value their daughters
    • Mother in law's should not have all the power, you do
    • Remarrying multiple times is not a shame
Can it be said that the book writes these with great and intricate writing all the time? Mm no but despite being an op cliche novel, the attempt at these open-minded topics is admirable. Disclaimer I did mtl tho.

However it's not perfect, there's a lot of characters (they all end up appearing again so ya), I skimmed a lot in the beginning, and can feel overly stretched out sometimes. But, it tried to do a lot and I do give it credit. All the main characters are good, not offensive or become not offensive, and you root for the whole family.

If you want to watch a somewhat feminist soap family drama, I think you can give this a try. It's not perfect, but it literally has one punch grandma so idk I think that means something.

It was pretty good. The face slapping moments were very amusing. What I don't like is that there was so much unnecessary text about her family members and others. Like they were getting divorced and hooking up with each other left and right. It was annoying. This story could have been way shorter if the author actually knew what they were doing. Also the ending was a bit rushed to me. Like we could have gotten some input about the MC and ML's married life at least. Also don't even... more>> really know the final ending of the twin sister. I was expecting her to show up again. This story was drawn out for no reason. Also some things were just left open.

4/10 would maybe recommend. <<less

MTL: 3.5-4☆ readable enough

Review: 3.5-4☆
Pretty enjoyable. Its simple with funny antics (especially from the Eldest Qiao's family), family love and drama.

Everyone got their own satisfactory ending.

MC's sister,

1st life -transmigrated into the body of the Xiao Qiao. OriginalSister was suffocated during birth causing mental ret*rdation. So, she was very much aware of what is happening around her but unable to move.

2nd life -she was reborn on the same body, but (if im reading correctly) she kinda kick MC out the womb so she was able to prevent being suffocated.

(But, I dont know why, she's so evil)

I really liked this book. I recommend it to anyone who like these 1950-1980 kind of stories. It's more slice of life but there were moments that I found really exciting. Also really funny moments because of the FL eldest uncle and aunt.

I mtl'd it and it was pretty easy to understand. Oh and one thing it seemed some of the mtl sites didnt include all the end chapters ... more>>

There asre about 3-4 more chapters that talk about what happened to her twin sister, also about the main characters kids and some more on the rest off the family

So the story did have a pretty decent conclusion and not an abrupt one (at least to me). <<less

Storyline doesn't revolve around MC singularly but also tells the story of MC family and how MC good luck changes the family

MC twin sister and mother are reborn but instead of making themselves better by using future knowledge they just do a bunch of s*upid things over and over again

It's ok, as in no cruel revenge plot, no OP cheats and no get rich quick plot.

But what makes me want to continue reading this is the interaction between MC eldest uncle and his wife, they're the funny characters in this novel. <<less

Tags are very deceiving. There isn't much action. The story is very slice of life. MC is a child for majority of book and most antagonistic are just brainless family members. Side characters, Mc' family, are fleshed out. All in all, avg read

The story is good. BUT what is this insane addiction to fairness of the skin? In most of the chinese novels the beauty of the FL is praised to an abnormal level. BUT cant they spare the kids? WTF. The children are distinguished based on their skin color. So disgusting. Except the FL all other kids are dark and ugly so they dont have the right to be liked by anyone more than the FL. Every time they compare the kids saying oh the FL is so fair and cute... more>> but the other kid is dark and ugly. WTF. The kids themselves speak like this and assume things like this. None of the adults corrects them, NONE of them ever say that the fairness doesnt matter and all kids are equal. It pissed me off so much. Especially the way they describe the fourth baby girl of the first son of the grandma, they keep saying how dark and ugly the baby is whenever she comes up. It's a baby !!!!! And even when she is growing up everyone keeps saying oh how ugly she, how dark she is, how will she find a husband? The adults just laugh when kids are saying this, they don't correct their behavior. What the hell is so funny? BS!!

The only reason I completed the novel is for the grandma and her first son and daughter-in-law. I loved the grandma. Her first son and his wife were a comedy duo. They made me laugh a lot. If you leave out the crazy beauty specifics, the story is a slice of life and pretty good. Thats why 3 stars. <<less

Characters have endings if that makes sense - Villains included ... more>>

through bad luck and unforeseen events

MC is not naive

the story does not just revolve around her, but we see her influence in each characters lives which is nice

ML is great too

childheart sweetheart - boy from reform farm who dreamed of MC - that was never really clarified which still confuses me

I loved the oldest uncle and his wife - they bring a lot of comedy

I loved the grandparents too, wish their was a novel with their love story

No angst really

just frustration over some characters, but at the end, the cousin (oldest and middle one) mature and get their happy ending

Happy ending

You get closure on the MC sister (supposed MC) but I still did not like it - memory lost and in a relationship with class monitor of MC university who was dismissed for taking admission of someone else

The memory of past life for some characters comes in a form of a dream and it helps them reflect or be sensitive to their own lives at the moment

Koi luck - don't know if it ever runs out

the use of beads that is, I MTL'ed so thats how it was portrayed

Not sure why the low rating, so far I like the story! Rare times where the reincarnated person is not the MC despite knowing future events.

It astonishes me how much the author is obsessed with skin colour and beauty of the characters. The female protagonist' s skin colour and beauty is mentioned so many times that it borders on being creepy. Not surprisingly the bad characters are either ugly or end up being ugly.... Even characters who seem to be abused in some form are given pity only if they are pretty..

The only saving grace are the grand parents of the protagonist even though they seem to see the suffering of the FL only and... more>> completely ignores anyone else eg: the daughters of Hong Min, their own grand daughters who are being abused by her. <<less

  1. summarized review: the beginning of the story is better, imo. It is funnier and interesting as things improve for MC and the qiao's over time. Eventually, it gets a bit boring and the drama is all one sided in a bland way.

once everyone begins to age and the kids grow up, things are way better (financially/personally) than the beginning of the story but the ill intentioned cannon fodders are easily dealt with from a mile away.

that is where the story fell short. Rinse and repeat cannon fodders.

i don't like how there aren't any side stories for MC and ML after they're married (w/ children or anything) and the story honestly dragged a bit. But I was still satisfied and have all the qiao family members memorized at this point.

i would recommend it for slice of life goodness and simplicity in the 70s/80s. Romance for mc+ML was cute and realistic too!

    detailed review:

xiu zhi is a perfect matriarch with her hilarious inhuman strength adding the right amount of comedy as well as her endless affection for her grandchildren. She lets her children/grandchildren make their own choices for better or worse.

xue chuan let's his wife run the show. King! He just loves her.

QXZ's forward thinking towards remarriage/divorce is refreshing

the grandchildren (MC included) aren't annoying and they learn! (Though some are not as intelligent as the others for comic relief)

each sibling (Qiao 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th) gets their time to shine (or life improvement) which is nice to see everyone included in the blessings

each child in mc's generation has their own type of success/romance

    lots of face slapping

MC and ML are a gradual friendship -> courtship in a realistic way. When the romance kicks in, it is sweet and awkward all the same

way too many characters. I forgot who 5th qiao's ex wives were until they mentioned qiao dongwan. I really had a hard time when someone from YEARS or an arc or two ago is suddenly mentioned like who cares?? It seemed like the author forgot to tie up the loose end and would bring up said cannon fodder to make sure we knew their ending wasn't good.

eldest qiao's wife was way too annoying in the beginning honestly. She was still pretty annoying when the story ended. Sure, in this life she was cured, but considering how much of a shrew she was, I expected them to divorce.

didn't like how they made xiao dongyun so ugly. Couldn't she be plain or at least decent looking like her older sisters?? She even got famous for her voice but they made her so ugly

hated the amount of divorces for fifth qiao

lack of side stories for mc/ml, donghe, dongwan and so on

mc's bio mom was just k*lled like that. Lol. Crazy. And her twin sister didn't deserve an ending like that considering she just wanted to live nicely and not as someone mentally impaired in her second life

didn't like author saying "but that's a story for a different time" then why mention it?

tags are inaccurate. There should definitely be a pregnancy tag or something there were like 8 pregnancies.

casually swiped over stillbirth/ab*rtion and m*rder like nothing. Lol maybe that's the charm of the story??

definitely could've needed less chapters on mundane arcs (MC preteen years)

some explanations/plot points were so long winded in detail it seemed like the author should've just written it out (aka the other daughter being switched at birth was way too complex in mtl with all the names and such)

ended so soon considering they gave us 70 chapters of MC from age 8 to 21 and 100 chapters on MC from 6 to 8. Author couldn't give us a wedding or epilogue?

although I have a lot of grievances and unanswered questions, I genuinely enjoyed the story. It's funny, mostly simple and family oriented. Everyone has a good ending because of mc's being a naive, kind child to a supernatural fish that blesses her and all who have positive association.

you may need to take a break or two when reading but you won't regret reading this!

This is a very straightforward story.

MC is the unfavoured twin, constantly being abused by her mother. MC saves a magical fish and this fish give her a jade that dispenses magical beads that can sure illness/beautify the skin/grow plants. The jade is kind of like a limitless tic tac dispenser, and with this magical tool and MC's magical koi luck, she embarks on the perfect life without any major challenges in life. She becomes beautiful and smart, loved by her family and excels easily in school. Besides her rough start... more>> in life, everything else after that is smooth sailing for her. She is a winner in life.

All the "bad" people, like her mother and younger sister, as all the evil relatives out there, all get their just desserts and are punished, either by the law or their family or just the plot, in some way. Everyone who is bad ends up with bad endings, while everyone who is good ends up getting a perfect marriage and a happy life. Legit everyone eventually pairs up and has kids.

It's not a bad novel. I very much enjoyed it except for the romance. The romance was bland and boring. <<less

This is one of those stories where MC is pretty much good natured, and people who go out of their way to annoy end up kicking a brick/punching a nail. Pretty funny banter.

Doesn't MTL as well as this author's other work. So I'll wait for translation to finish reading it.

The story is good... It's basically a slice of life story with some face slapping. I love how the irritating cannon fodders immediately gets their just desserts. It's really quite amusing.

MC has a golden finger and she used it wisely. MC has the right amount of Mary Sue-ish halo that makes it quite tolerable and not disgusting.

ML is also good.

But the characters that I love most here are her grandparents. So cool~ #thuglife

Ending is ok but too abrupt.

I love this so much!

No boring chapters.

It's the first time I read a novel that justice is well served. An eye for an eye. Honestly when I read novels that the villain tries to harm or kill the protagonist, then they are just thrown abroad or go to jail a few years. Or they just forgive them and just tell them don't bother them ever again. I just, meh 🤷🏻‍♀️ but its a novel anyway so just focus on other things just to be happy. 😆 Anyway, this novel is very... more>> well written. There are foreshadowings, all things are well put together. No abrupt scenarios. If there are, you won't think it is. I feel like the author laid down everything before writing. Which is good.

One thing I like best is I didn't get frustrated when the villains do bad things. Retributions came almost instantly. Protagonist is naive because of her age at the beginning of the novel. But she's lucky so.. Yeah. She's always good. And her grandma is OP so luck X2 😆 <<less
