Lin Qing He transmigrated into the novel and became one of its cannon fodder. The novel’s background is non-viable-1960s, time of want to eat but nothing to eat and want to wear, nothing to wear. Although the lack of supplies and life was monotonous, this wasn’t what she was concerned about because she got a small personal interspatial space, which is stuffed with supplies, so temporarily no worries about basic needs.

What she is worried about, if she remembers correctly, her three so-called sons will become big villains in the future, and their upright and cold dad will end up in an indestructible end.

Lin Qing He looked at the three future villain sons, eldest who was only five years old, the second child was only three years old, and the third child was only one year old, and decided to give them half a big white bun first…

Love this family so much. Wish I had my own Qing Bai though and even those 3 stinky boys because really they are all super adorable.

Despite it being about their mundane daily life interactions and management I am really invested their story. Even though I'm not in love with the characters I like them but the FL atp leaves a lot to be desired for. Her b*tchy personality initially was justifiable cause she wasn't trying to stand apart from the owner but now her personality has started to get on my nerves. Not wanting to be intimate with her husband is fine but why is she so rude to him constantly is beyond me.

I liked this story mostly because of MC. She's a flawed character with clear cut standards. She's mainly combative and a lover of vanity, doesn't mince her words and her deviations come mostly because of culture shock/generation gap. So even though she's flawed, she resonates more with the readers of her own generation. Watching her go against the established values to restore a semblance of comfort, which used to be taken for granted in her previous life, is a good pastime.

Being a slice of life, this story picked up the... more>> larger slice. Daily life is surprisingly uneventful, yet it is insisted upon in the novel. Being a light read, this is not a problem if you're willing to slug away through the chapters as MC passes year by year with but one or two moments to mark it. And daily life without resources is repetitive, so much that MC herself, in her boredom, picks up many uninspiring tasks to fill her days. Today we'll have buns, tonight congee, tomorrow morning heat the leftovers and pheasant for dinner; this winter came earlier and sister-in-law is pregnant; despite managing to delay it I'm forced to tell a truth to my husband. Like this, the author mixes 60% of typical daily life, 30% are small life events and variations from last year, and 10% is something that makes more of an impact.

And this is how the cake is sliced. <<less

Things that made me enjoy this story:

  • Great business-minded FL!
  • No shocking angst with the original FL.
  • Heartwarming age progression of the original villains in the story.
It anazed me that I didn't find the 701 ch long-winded, but actually exhilarating. Definitely recommended!

Worth to reread, not fluffy romance-ish novel but its good.

The story of a mother who raises her three children* until they have grandchildren. The drama is not too much and not a little is very fitting. The point is that this novel is good suitable for re-reading.

if you’re looking for a pure slice of life this is it! Honestly I did not expect myself to finished this novel bc of the length but from the moment I started reading it I couldn’t stop and I finished it in a week or so. I personally really really like this type of novel. This story consists of a daily life from when FL was in her 20s to her 40s and it’s really satisfying to see how much have their life changed a poor pheasant from the countryside... more>> to a dignified director of Beijing university and to a successful businessman. I love her relationship with the ML and her cubs and I felt like she’s someone that worth to be admired and you learn so much from her as a character.. I love how she guide her nieces and everyone dear around her unlike some MC who only care about themselves like I could never do that. So I find this FL very realistic in many ways. My only complaint was that we didn’t get much depth about her childrens/nieces love story and toward the end chapters I was feeling very emotional bc I felt like was ageing with them. It’s the kind of feeling when you finished a really good book and you don’t know what to do with ur life for a moment 😭 <<less

I really enjoyed this. I’ve read as much of the 70s-80-90s transmigration stories that have been translated and at first I was like: transmigrating to the 60s in rural China not long after the Great Famine would be like transmigrating into a preteen in the midst of the foot- binding process. Especially during the handful of years after Mao’s death. How on earth is she going to live? (although I did read one transmigrating mid-birth...). No lie: there is no food.

It starts in the late 60s and the author absolutely... more>> leaned into the abject poverty and the effect of political upheaval on the microcosm of this little village.

I found the ‘stocking up’ rather sketch (predicated on a ‘feeling’ that stuff was about to go down), but! With all of that, it was super funny. There was the obligatory familial in-fighting, but very, very inconsequential. The best part was all the shit-giving (good natured) between the family.

Dawa’s Martin Luther’s 95-theses moment in university had me falling off the bed laughing.

Many of the FL/ML’s comebacks were serious parent burns :)

The romance was quite good and I think the oomph went out of the novel (for me) when that went away. So around 1986. The translation started to get choppier as it progressed. No judgment on what must have been a Herculean task of translating over 700 chapters! Thank you for all the hard work.

I definitely recommend this if you’re looking for an OP FL rags to riches mostly angst free read. Don’t be deterred by the length. <<less

This is probably my favourite slice of life novel. I already read the whole thing twice and plan to come back to it whenever I feel like I need some positive vibes in my life (or to put my own problems into a new perspective).
The main character is very well written and while some if not most side characters are shallow the author does a good job on using the environment in blending them into the background. I really enjoy the slight fantasy vibes (
Spoiler

with the regression/transmigration and the "inventory space"

[collapse]
), and the introduction to food is common throughout the novel it is not too much.
I guess my only problem with it is that while Maggie on Explore did a fantastic job in translating it to English, that is the only place you can read it on. What I mean by that is that if the site gets taken down then this will be lost for all eternity. I would really like to own a physical copy of the translated version of this book, but I haven´t managed to find one anywhere. (Ps. Let me know if you know where to find a physical copy of the translated book)

Very well written and translated but it was too lengthy for a slice of life. The story literally started when the MC kids were 6, 3 and 1 year old and till the point that the eldest and second child got married and had a kid. Can you imagine how long the story was? It was literally every day life in 700 chapters which I think is a wee bit too much for a slice of life novel. However, the story itself was good and the side stories were really... more>> satisfying and ended the novel on a PERFECT note where every child’s future development was mentioned as well as the FL and ML. This is what I personally love when it comes to side stories/ endings. Give this a go but pace yourself. That’s all I have to say! <<less

At start she has three kids and she is very bad mom and wife, but that all changes.

Very good story, this is a strong woman daily life, she doesn't let her husband be too crazy with her. She has a nice family and does things so she benefits and all is good around. Even if she has problems she solves them. It's like perfect life.

She also has secret space to earn money obviously like a cheat but the best part of this is daily life and everything she does for... more>> her three kids.

She even does birth control which is very nice to have in story. <<less

Very slice of life and sometimes when it feels too slow, suddenly there are time jump.

It's a Mary Sue-ish novel, looking at Lin Qing He's life journey that almost never had a setback. But it enjoyable because she elevated people around her.

The village arc is more interesting and enjoyable than the capital arc, because it full of enciting food imagery, the childhood of her 3 sons and the beginning of LQH and ZQB love story.

I enjoyed the story, and the ending felt like a bittersweet.

Slow pace, slice of life. A woman is transmigrated to be a goodluck wife in the black years of modern China. Do not expect any overt dramatic change. The FL is just the ordinary Chinese woman who values family, husband and sons overy everything.

The background is good, very good. Let us understand what had happened to China and her people of that long years, how they changed from dying-from-hungry society to this day Powerful Nation.

No romance. The FL+ML = 0. Eventhough her sons'romance could be developed the novel into the... more>> very romantic one. But the author could not do it. So sad.

Read this novel in your leisure time, to ease your tensed mind.

The (original) language is so nice and smooth. The translor is very able. Though the story is very plain, like almos-no-rice congee; in the end, you'll love it. <<less

I give it a 5.0 Why? Sinply because I most especially love reading slice of life stories like this. The more detailed the better (😆). So I enjoyed every part of it. It actually feels like 701 chapters is still not enough.

On the contrary, people who doesn't like reading slow paced, laid back, and no major plot scenes/twist slice of life stories will definitely find this a bore and the 701 chapters too many to read.

So basically, ro ech their own. But seriously, go read it giys. You won't regret... more>> it. Every characters had their lives wrapped up perfectly in the story. The good ones had their happy endings, the bad ones had their most deserve endings. <<less

It is a good and satisfying story, you may think 700 chapters was a lot, but with many characters in this story, it is understandable, I think the FL was rational the ML was sweet for me, the existence of Golden finger is not overpowering, if you know beimei in '70s (forgot the name), similar to that but more complete, the pace was good too

There's not much to say, this is probably one of the best, if not the actual best slice of life novel on this website.

Regarding the translation, it's not amazing perse, but it is decent compared to just reading MTL. With the context that the translator updated everyday, it was reasonable.

Regarding for those people who are interest in there's smut in this, at the beginning of the relationship, yes. It's not overly explicit but it can satisfy a smut reader for sure. It's definitely not just a one line analogy or... more>> a blacked out curtain, which is a blessing. <<less

Finished. I cried at ML's last line cos it showed how deep their relationship was.

In all fairness, my favorite character in the novel isn't the rational FL or the steadfast ML or any on their cubs,

Spoiler

it was the side character Xu Sheng Qiang. Fyi, he is Xu Sheng Mei's brother. Recap: Xu Sheng Mei was brought by FL to the capital to work but she schemed to marry into the capital by seducing the crooked young master Zhao Jun. To put it nicely, she is a tried and proven white lotus. To put it bluntly, she is an ungrateful brat and a scheming btch.

[collapse]

Spoiler

At first I harbored dislike for this man XSQ for being an arrogant young master, but his change was really surprising and scratched my itch too well. Out of all the side characters, he was the one that captured my interest whole.

[collapse]

I'm not good with words so I'll just stop here.

All in all, it was a pretty good read that had me hooked and wished for more side stories like, what if FL go back to her world and meets ML again? Although it has little to no chances of ever happening, it never hurts to use a human's ability to imagine. <<less

I never really like slice of life stories, I find it boring, but this novel changed my world views. Reading the day to day lives of LQH and her family is so addicting, it's like I'm part of her family, living that simple and carefree life. Never expected to be so hooked by this story. After reading this I've looking for other slice of life stories such as this one. Right now, I'm currently reading Bai Fumei in the 70's, another slice of life story. This novel made me love... more>> the slice of life genre. <<less

Overall Rating: 4.5 Personal Rating: 4.6

Felt I had closure and the characters are not one dimensional, they had their own situations and thought process, be it good or bad. It's a soap opera, most of the time, but some times it talked about MC and ML's opinions openly.

Honestly, I feel this novel could've been cut short 200 chapters and it would be less draggy in certain parts where the Novel felt like a filler moment.
