My Husband is Suffering from a Terminal Illness

Description

Xie Yang struggled in the post-apocalyptic world for many years until he was too tired to go on. Then he transmigrated into a young adult entertainment circle novel where the protagonists have easy, sweet, and satisfying lives.

The male protagonist of the novel is not just handsome and smart, he’s also reborn. The female protagonist of the novel is not only beautiful and works hard towards her dreams, she also has a cheat in her hands.

There’s a lot of male and female supporting roles, each having pretty face, nice figures and someone strong behind them. Get into any one of their bodies, and he could close his eyes and just enjoy life. But he didn’t. Instead he transmigrated into a young idol secretly married to the biggest villain of all — the male protagonist’s maternal uncle.

His title is husband but it’s more like a nurse. Because this novel’s biggest villain is a terminally ill patient who is gloomy and sick in the head (actually sick). Their marriage was to counter the bad luck (illness).

Xie Yang: Who cares if you’re the male lead, female lead, male supporting, female supporting, villain or protagonist. Get in the way of my comfortable life and you’ll die (:

I'm really enjoying this one so far!

As far as I can see, the novel focuses on two major parts: MC's career and his relationship with ML.

MC's career is pretty smooth and amazing, as is typical of face-slapping protagonist novels, but it doesn't detract from enjoyment (at least, not from mine). It's satisfying to see him counter the FL (the original main character of the novel world) and her cheats, but it might feel repetitive along side the face-slapping. All in all, the MC just dominates.

I feel like MC's relationship with... more>> the ML is pretty unique. ML's behavior results from the fact that he has a terminal illness and knows he won't have long to live, which contrasts MC's desire for him to keep fighting for survival. (I also love tsunderes so that's a plus). It's vaguely reminiscent of LWJ's and WWX's relationship when they were learning in Cloud Recesses, but it's still different. I like the development of the relationship, which takes a good portion of the novel, and the dog food that comes after. It's not perfect, they know this, but they're working on it. They're only human beings, after all.

(I don't know how to put their relationship into words but I really like it.)

It may seem like at first MC's background as an apocalypse survivor doesn't have much role in the story now, but it does and will. He's a lot more straightforward and shameless, haha. Another thing will come along later in the story that's related to ML's health and the FL's abilities, which is kind of interesting. But due to the nature of it, it's really only focused on those two things.

Overall, I really like the novel. If you like showbiz, face-slapping, and interesting relationships, this is the novel for you! <<less

I am currently reading this novel via MTL as well as through Chrysanthemum Garden.

I agree with the majority of the reviews here.

This story is quite fluffy and there is no long term misunderstandings between the two MLs.

... more>> The MC is a transmigrator and the ML has rich not only in status but in his ailments. Both have gone through hardships prior to their meeting and through the MC's initiative the ML became more optimistic about life too.

It is definitely a novel I will be re-reading again once all the translated chapters are out! <<less

This is an engaging transmigration series where a former golden composer survived in an apocalyptic world with an ability but then transmigrated to a modern setting in a book he read. The protagonist from the novel has mind-controlling abilities from a system, and the MC has his own special ability as well. The ML has brain cancer (although this may be a mistranslation--it sounds like a fatal benign tumor rather than a malignant one since no concern about it spreading or the ML doing chemo has been mentioned), which puts... more>> him in great danger if he's exposed to the protagonist's mind-controlling abilities. The protagonist wants to become a superstar, and the MC wants to protect his husband, so they naturally come to odds.

The protagonist relies heavily on her system without having the experience to really use great skills on her own, so she has depended on manipulating people with her ability instead of developing a good reputation or working on her strong points. She tries hard to pull strings to give her career and popularity a boost, but she is also petty and does morally questionable things in the background to bring her rivals down. The ML is a stick-in the mud who is obstinate about only having a landlord-renter relationship with the MC, but he obviously has feelings for the MC and refuses to take the step of admitting them. He is OP and can make anything happen or disappear.

The MC is OP in terms of running a company and playing music, but these abilities all come from his previous life experience. The series does not mention how old he is when he transmigrates, but he has clearly had a long and successful music career. Since he already has a lifetime of experience doing this work, it makes sense that he does it better than his so-called peers. His shock in adapting to this new world is believable, and he immediately makes efforts to separate his current self from his host's previous relationships. He breaks off his relationship with the host's family, stays away from his school, and breaks up the boy group he's currently with. He only met his group members recently, so he cooperates with them while keeping a distance. He only met his husband briefly before as well. Although most people notice his personality is different than described or appears to have changed, he manages to handle it in a way they don't know him well enough to investigate too thoroughly. Who would think he replaced the original smothered MC anyway?

I love the business focus and the hard work the MC does in his career, especially at the beginning of the series.

There are some odd things and occasional inconsistencies and plot, holes, though. The biggest question I had at the beginning of the series is why the group would choose a name like IUD. Yes, the boys' group has the abbreviation for intrauterine device. Like... why? There isn't any explanation about how this name connects to pregnancy and their readers, so I'm guessing the author was just being silly. The ML is only in his twenties, so why is his mother so weak and elderly to live in a nursing home and be suggested to have dementia? She should be in her forties or fifties unless she gave birth late. Why does the ML despise his own family so much and cooperate with the MC's insane requests right after they meet each other? Why does the ML give into all of the MC's requests so easily, even though they hardly know each other? If the ML really has a malignant (malignant = cancerous) tumor, then why isn't he getting chemo or radiation for it? Why is it treated like a growing benign tumor instead? Why does the protagonist do something as dumb as trying to drag the MC's reputation down, even when she knows this will only cause her harm? If the MC and ML have the power to push people down, then why can't other companies or powerful people do the same?

The emotional depth of the MC is limited to his protection of his husband and the music he creates. The descriptions of these are good and bring the story to life. He otherwise comes off as quite heartless.

Overall, I enjoy reading this series and am looking forward to more. It just has some odd inconsistencies and too much of an OP couple. The MC doesn't struggle hard for much, and this story could improve with more flashbacks and character depth to show how the MC developed to how he is today. <<less

(I don't know why I can't rate with stars but a 5/5 for sure)

Now this is what I'm talking about when I say I want enemies to lovers, love hate relationship trope.

I absolutely adored the relationship between MC & ML. It was natural & grew very realistically. It made me laugh many times & I loved the banter. There was a thin line between borderline dislike & fluffiness, it's so cute.

I think other comments that rated lowly because their dislike against money type relationship the MC has with... more>> ML don't understand that it's not realistic to fall in love & instantly connect. Their relationship is shallow at first, but developed in such a well written & funny way I can't see why it's disliked because we clearly see how a relationship connection is made. There is character & there are developments. MC also has a money type relationship with other characters, but that's how he is. He has an objective & a plan of action. He's a cruel ruthless MC as promised! I love smart scheming MC, watching the plans unfold & how he uses his resources is so fun. No complaints here.

The side characters are hilarious too & they enhance the comedic levels between the MC & ML. Even in serious situations, you can laugh. I'm still a bit early in this novel but I'm definitely looking forward to future chapters! <<less

First Impression

I almost skipped this novel because I've seen so many with similar concept and summary, but decided to give this a shot because of the high rating... spoiler alert, I'm VERY glad I did, because this novel sure took me on an emotional rollercoaster.

The Plot

    • This novel has some supernatural (?) elements that would have been so out of place on a modern setting like this, but somehow the author made it work and adds to the charm of the novel.
    • It would've been easy for this to be melodramatic but it isn't! The heartwarming and tearjerker scenes are very sincere, and the amount of humor and face-slapping is just right too.
The MC

    • Another strong and clever protagonist that can stand toe to toe with the ML. More importantly, he can stand up for himself and will refuse to let the ML jerk him around.
    • Is naturally good at a lot of things, which does make plot points predictable, but that doesn't mean he still isn't fun to root for.
    • Not much importance is placed on the MC's backstory, which I'm a little disappointed about, but it didn't really affect the overall quality of the novel so I didn't mind it too much.
The ML

    • Possibly one of my favorite MLs of all time and the biggest surprise of this novel. He is a total TSUNDERE! He is such a wonderful combination of the classic cold and ruthless ML personality with an adorable and soft side to him. The softness is not calculated or only exclusive towards the MC either... he cares DEEPLY for people he considers his family.
    • Petty, and is a sour vinegar jar lmao. Will get scandalized if the MC starts acting shameless...
The CP

    • THE ROMANCE IS SO WELL WRITTEN! Their relationship really developed so organically. It started off from a business transaction and eventually they just became a pair of sweethearts who really embody the vows 'through sickness and health, for better or worse'.
    • The ML can be hot and cold, and the MC deliberately provokes him in return (at one point I'm pretty sure it can be called gaslighting), but within context it's understandable and in my opinion, neither of them did anything really toxic. They both work through issues together wonderfully.
    • Hilarious bickering and back and forth since the beginning (and it doesn't stop even after they got together).
Others

    • There are a lot of villains in the novel but ugh I feel like the
      Spoiler

female lead really takes the cake. But the true villain is probably that creepy system. I do also feel like that plot point is left hanging a bit... like the MC's backstory there was a lot of potential to be explored there that sadly didn't amount to much.

      [collapse]
    • I'm reminded of how vicious social media can be. Like yikes. And I stan a kpop idol irl

Novels with a tsundere tag can go in the wrong direction really easily. If the character who has a cold temperament and is extremely bad at showing his feelings is paired with a sensitive person with low self-esteem, then this relationship will be toxic. But when Tsundere is paired with a shameless, clever person, it can turn out to be a great comedy. In this novel, because the cold person and his tantrums don't receive a normal reaction and the other person just makes fun of his silly actions, this... more>> relationship is truly entertaining and fun to read about. What I wanted to say is that ML is the cutest tsundere I have ever read about. The interaction between MC and ML is hilarious. ML has little temper tantrums every day, but MC went through the apocalyptic world; he fears nothing, not even a cold tyrant who terrorises his employees. For MC, dealing with ML is just a child's game. He has a lot of fun taunting dark-faced and cold ML. It genuinely made me laugh too many times.

plot, I don't know how to describe it. Most of the time, some people try to harm MC, and then they are slapped back fast. It sounds boring, but it is actually too interesting. I was reading like crazy, which is strange because I usually don't like entertainment gossip and don't pay attention to it. Yet because of this book, I became extremely engrossed. I guess it is the power of good writing. All those intrigues showed how toxic the entertainment industry became and reflected reality. Apart from that, all those scandals and their solutions just proved how clever and collected MC is, as well as how protective and loving ML is. ML's way of protecting MC from black fans was extravagant and, at the same time, childish and cute.

What I liked the most was that this novel is well-written and fast-paced. It is gripping. It has interesting and cute characters. I thought the main villain would be the woman with the system, but unexpectedly, there were other villains too. One of them was a typical psycho who gave me chills. The most interesting thing was that the author gave explanations. For example, why did MC transmigrate or how did female lead receive the system? I like it when the story is logically developed and everything is explained. The novel would be good even without those reasons, but with them, it became more interesting. It was a good plot twist.

I really liked this novel and enjoyed reading it. I would gladly recommend it to other readers who love this genre. It is light reading and enjoyable at that. I hope more readers give it a chance. <<less

It's a good novel but should it have almost 200th chapters? Probably not, it becomes very repetitive around the 100th chapter and the author should've just condense it into the 100th and it would've been better, all in all, it's a cute novel there's nothing more than kisses but still nice. Was really confuse about the powers, the author could've explored it more but that's ok I guess... Recommend it to read if you have nothing better to read.

Thank you so much to the translator for their work in bringing this novel to the English-speaking masses.

It was just such a joy to read and be immersed in this novel. No real angst but a bit of 'dog-blooded' drama to keep it interesting.

Normally I hate tsundere characters but paired with the MC's no-nonsense and extremely straight-forward nature, this couple's dynamic works really well.

It's a pretty smooth ride for our main couple plotwise, so if you want some easy reading, this is a novel to pick up. Just be ready... more>> for a slow burn. And one that doesn't explode. I think it has to do with the fact that the leads are 'weary souls' who are used to surviving in their own ways. But their love is sweet and strong and the majority of their interactions will bring a smile to your face. They should be the poster couple for 'supportive relationship'. <<less

this novel is bittersweet in a way. Not the kind that will make you wince and drink water to cleanse your mouth, but the kind that will make you wonder and want to explore more about the taste.

in this novel we have ML who doesn't want to attach himself to MC because he has terminal illness and won't live long, and MC who's very sure he can cure ML's illness. The romance might be developing a little bit too fast, from you're just someone bought with money to I love... more>> you I want to cure my illness for you in the span of one year. But I love everything about their relationship dynamic.

my favorite part about HTI is ML's treatment journey and how MC was always beside him. Xie Yang never once stopped caring about Qiu Xing throughout his journey, the entire novel even.

Spoiler

Even when QX was thin and bald, XY kept saying that he's very handsome.

[collapse]

you'll feel some emotional roller coaster toward the end of the story but overall it was still manageable because let's all be honest, XY is kinda OP. There was no really big hurdle in this novel, just some weibo thingy and rich people war that were easily solved by XY & QX. If I have to mention one thing, the only concerning obstacle is QX's illness.

but! BUT!!! By the end of the story your jaw will hurt from smiling too much. A very satisfying ending frfr.

TLDR; I love them sm im gna cry <<less

I MtlEd this before and loved it. Now I reread with actual translation and reminded all over again why I love it.

The dynamic between the couple is really healthy, imo. ML might look more dominant but the initiative has almost always in MC's hands. Good thing is MC didn't use and discard ML. They grow to love each other and their interactions are very funny and lovely.

I love how cute ML is, being such obvious tsundere that the MC can read him, his mother can read him. Even his assistant... more>> can read him. Too precious. <<less

Why does their relationship feel so awkward like I don’t like how both of them act? It’s such a bad novel help.

first of all the MC is just like « angry? » okay whatever then he just does his things. Or even when he seems to expect something, if it doesn’t happens he’s just like busying himself with something else and leave. Even his attitude is kinda cold? I can’t see any chemistry for the ml, I think it would be the same even without him.
then for the ml, why tf is he interested by someone who just act nice to get money? It’s so weird and makes no sense. Also can he stops being angry for every single things?

i forced myself to continue reading it but it’s so painful and slow. There’s literally no progress, even if they are now ready to be in a « true » relationship. They can spend days and months alright with not seeing/talking to the other with the MC just being indifferent and the ml... idk tbf but yea there is just no sparks between the two.

You know what I like? The fact that the ML is a tsundere. Honestly, I have seen obsessive, snarky, funny, quiet, smart, cold, and jerk ML. But this ML, haha. I CANT. I love this guy. He isn’t an annoying tsundere. He is someone that has a terminal illness, thus you have to understand why he acts the way he does. It’s refreshing seeing the MC taking charge of the relationship. I think my only gripe of this novel is...

Spoiler

The first half of the novel where the OG female lead acts as a villain is beautiful, but halfway the villain changes and it just seems lackluster. Like who tf is this guy?It was obvious that he will lose to the MC. The OG female lead had a cheat system, and this system was great as a thing for the MC to defeat. But it gets defeated halfway in.
Anyways, everything else is awesome. I really enjoy the relationship between them. It feels like a very healthy relationship. And one more thing, it’s a HAPPY ENDING :) the title really be telling you this is gonna be some tragedy. Instead it became a funny sitcom/detective/destroying your enemy type of story. Although it kinda got repetitive with the face slapping and how the public becomes so enthralled with the drama.

The romance is really really really slow, however it was overall pleasant and light to read. There was some drama but MC is really capable and could solve almost everything himself. Even though I don’t like tsundere trope, I liked ML after he opened up a bit more. He became really cute.

Really good.

Leaving aside the story and all the rest (which is good as well, of course: Although the MC is particularly OP - without a real background explanations in some things - he's still a really likable character. A bit petty, a bit black hearted but also warm and steady. He doesn't do any unnecessary things but only what he needs to do to survive, live well and let his enemies pay for it in a mostly resonable way) I especially loved the way the MC and ML interacted.

For once,... more>> there was no controlling and possessive president but a tsundere little mouse who still managed to be a strong support and steady figure, helping our MC along without disrespecting him and ignoring his wishes.

Sure, the MC didn't do everything that came to his mind but that's normal when in a relationship - you are not alone after all but a pair - and there were some things and unnecessary lies on both parts but they were in good faith and were not excessive.

Most importantly, for once I saw a story were the MC also supported the ML. He stayed by his side at his darkest moments and effectively helped him, both in good and bad times. Moreover, the ML warmly let him. I like this reciprocity and it's how I think an ideal relationship should be. Each one helps the other in the ways they can when it is needed. Not one doing whatever whenever it suits their fancy. <<less

i kept procrastinating to read this novel because it has 175 chapters (a bit long for me) and some people gave it low star even as low as 1 star, so I used to have doubt about this novel and only kept it in my to read list.

I love this novel! ML is a true definition of tsundere, and sugar jar, I love Qiu Xing so much. MC is so smart he hold grudge but he also has some measure. Most faceslapping novel I read has their MC ruin... more>> the career of every character that humiliate them but not this one. Xie Yang didn’t ruin Fang Chengnan, Ji Zehui (if I don’t remember the name wrong) , he even cooperate with them, his father Xie Xiu, a few others, even in the end he help Mu Zhouyi a little, that make me feel Xie Yang more humane and real. If you mind a very OP MC then you'll probably not like this one.

I usually can't stand a gary stu in any novel but this MC was powerful in a not very overbearing way and I didn't mind how ridiculous it is for him to win every single time.

The thing I worried about while reading was pacing. At around chapter 100 I had some doubts about how the author would fill the resting 70 chapters but the story was still interesting up until the end.

I didn't mind the nine years... more>> age difference because MC is originally older from his last life but yeah...I wish the gap wasn't that big. That's my only complaint.

Spoiler

I wish MC told ML about his powers in the end. So he'd worry about his safety less. I know he did tell him but was brushed off by ML who didn't believe it but I wish he told him about it and about his life during the apocalypse..I wish we also knew more about his life before but it doesn't make the story worse imo.

[collapse]

Overall a nice read with a nice relationship. The MC being too powerful made me not worry about any angst and enjoy reading. Rated it 5 stars because it truly was an enjoyable read. It's not the best story out there but it's one of my favorites in the transmigration trope. <<less
