Transmigrating into the Reborn Male Lead’s Ex-Boyfriend

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

Song Xuanhe transmigrated into a book called “The President’s Seven Boyfriends”. He became the President’s cannon fodder ex-boyfriend, Song Xuanhe.

The Song Xuanhe in the book: 180 cm tall, so attractive he would trump over even the hottest celebrities, three generations of family in business–a very appropriate rich third generation.

It wasn’t a loss to transmigrate into this kind of person. It was just that this was a rebirth story.

The Song Xuanhe in the book ab*sed the male lead 800 times and had even indirectly caused the male lead’s death. Faced with the reborn blackened male lead, his fate was obvious–not only did he reach rock bottom, he even died without an intact corpse.

Right now, he had become the cannon fodder ex-boyfriend that was foreordained to die without an intact corpse.

—–

System: Don’t you think that the male lead has been a bit strange recently? It’s like he’s plotting something in the dark.

Song Xuanhe: Plotting how to kill me?

System: No, plotting how to eat you.

—–

Song Xuanhe, who was lying on the bed with an aching waist, pained back and legs suffering from cramps, cursed the System 800 times–what happened to the male lead being a shou?!

Emphasis: Xiao Yuanmu is the gong! Xiao Yuanmu is the gong! Xiao Yuanmu is the gong! Moreover, the big shot has always been a gong! Spoilers only up to here!

Just your average romantic book that has transmigration. The couple had some very sweet moments, but their romance felt dragged out in the later parts of the book. The book would have benefitted if their pasts and internal turmoil had been fleshed out more, so that we could gain a better understanding of their actions.

The ending also felt abrupt. They had only been truly together (no forced relationship, "break up", or denied feelings) for around 10 chapters. I hope we could've gotten more extras about their... more>> daily lives and how their future turned out. <<less

i honestly thought it was pretty decent at the beginning. I loved MC’s personality and how he had like an actual life.

BUT!

Unfortunately IMO the author dragged out the relationship too much and the Family Drama was soooo headache inducing that I had to skim some chapters. Its really unfortunate since I really did love the CP but I wish it wasn’t dragged out for so long.

Im giving this extra points though because of the ending

Where the system sacrificed its life force for the MC and ML to live happily together

So overall a 3.5/5 cute CP but very headache inducing dogblood drama and dragged out for a bit too long <<less

Buckle up, because this is seriously slow-burn. This is more like a family revenge type plot than it is a romance novel.

These are all my opinions gathered from reading MTL.

- The MC is callous, arrogant, and wishy-washy. He tries to play this off as domineering, or 'just following the plot', but sometimes he just makes stuff difficult for himself for absolutely no reason. Also, and this just might be the author's crappy characterization, but sometimes he follows the plot and other times he won't, for no good reason other than... more>> he feels like it.

Spoiler

Ex: Saving the ML with the car accident (both when he got scraped and there was the serious accident) when the script clearly said not to do anything. Also, messing around with his dad's actress mistress for no reason. Like, just avoid her so you won't get dragged into her messiness. You knew you would be misunderstood by speaking with her, you clearly stated this before meeting with her, and yet still went with her for shits and giggles.

Not to mention the whole 'cutting connection with everyone and just traveling to a highly dangerous area where people get killed just to learn about design (which, btw, your character doesn't have interest in! What happened to not breaking your role, huh?), only to be shocked when you're about to be killed, only for the ML to conveniently jump in and save the damsel in distress

[collapse]

Also the MC is unnecessarily callous and cruel, and a really shitty person
Spoiler

Ex: the girl who liked him for forever. There was a situation where she was trying to warn him about a highly addictive drug the MC's enemy was about to inject into the MC, but she took the hit trying to protect him and got drugged. She was sobbing and crying on the floor, scared that she would now be addicted, and the MC was just watching her. It wasn't until a while later that the MC reveals it was just a fake drug and that he had switched it out earlier. Like, you couldn't have told her that sooner? She was traumatized and sobbing uncontrollably from fear, and the MC had no sympathy for her. Thank god she told him she no longer liked him after that, but he showed no remorse for what he did, and was even grateful this got her off his back.

[collapse]

- The ML is also unlikeable. Maybe because I've seen so many cold-President ML that this character is absolutely boring, but especially during the first ~75 chapters, he's cold, emotionless, and the only thing he really does actively in each scene is look pretty. He doesn't speak much at all, and honestly, he's more of a vase to the MC's scheming. Like an accessory the MC must tote around for the sake of 'plot', much like a toy dog. We all get that he's actually perfect and genius and smart, but the author makes sure to beat that into your head, even though he actually doesn't do much in the scene itself. I honestly get why the book's author mentioned that the fake story "The President's Seven Boyfriends" was unfinished (basically that the ML was too perfect and that there wasn't enough drama to really do much with such a character). The ML really doesn't bring much to the table. We get snips that he's planning stuff behind the scenes, but he doesn't really do anything actively until near the end.

-The plot was contrived and felt like there was just too much face-slapping. It just got repetitive and boring. The MC randomly becomes friends with the top dogs of the business world, who for some reason are VERY interested in him despite being much more powerful/wealthy/smart than him, and who conveniently come in to save him or back him up during the face-slapping bits. They become friends with him and stick with him for very contrived reasons. The plot never brought anything new to the table, and quickly became 'oh we defeated villain 1, but here comes a stronger villain, and oh no, villain 1 is back at it again'.

Honestly don't waste your time. I wish I hadn't wasted mine. <<less

My frustration meter hit an all time high after reading this novel. It is so nauseatingly infuriating, and if you want to make your blood pressure rise, feel free to read the middle portion of this novel.

At first it started off well, but the author f*cked it up real bad by dragging it out for an overly long time. Never have I seen an MC who experiences rapid character development only to experience character regression over the course of half the novel. He came to many realizations and conclusions about... more>> the world he lived in as well as ML, but then... ??? Somehow he turned into an impetuous, apathetic, and feckless dolt, leading ML on over the course of 2 years. He had absolutely no regard for his life or for the feelings of his friends and family despite knowing that they were real people and not just novel characters.

All the while, some s*upid drama occurs between chapters 60 and 130 that really have no bearing on anything whatsoever. If you don't want to suffer, then just skip those middle chapters altogether and this will be an entirely different novel. You'll only be missing some unnecessary angst.

Spoiler

MC only:

  • Has open confrontations with cannon fodders 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... etc x10 million
  • Schemes without telling anyone what he's doing, leading to mass confusion
  • Beats someone up (more than once)
  • Pretends to get drugged and puts himself in a dangerous situation
  • Gets caught in a scandal
  • Encounters car crashes, car crashes everywhere
  • Randomly meets with high powered people, because apparently they have nothing to do but to hang out all day
  • Ignores ML or ruthlessly rejects him
  • Insists that he's broken up with ML while ML insists they're still together
  • Drops off the grid and travels for 5 months without telling anyone
  • Engages in thrill seeking without regard for responsibilities
  • Travels to a war torn country even though everyone told him not to and where HE GETS SHOT 3 TIMES

Ah, but don't worry, after getting shot 3 times and nearly dying, he finally sees the error of his ways and accepts ML! No! Big! Deal!

[collapse]

I wouldn't call this novel a slow burn. Rather, it's freezer burn, where the main CP started off warm and then chilled in the deep freezer until they eventually burned.

The ending was real whatever. Bullsh*t happened and novel magic saved the day.

Do yourself a favor and save yourself from an aneurysm by skipping the middle chapters, or maybe this entire novel altogether. <<less

One of my favourite novels. ML is super sweet and caring and is never forceful with MC. He's patient and loyal. MC seems unfeeling at first but it's evident that he cares for ML throughout. MC is sly, charming but he doesn't feel Gary Stu. It was really fun watching how his feelings for other characters develop. ML is quick to admit his feelings (relatively quick) and MC takes much more time. However, due to the nature of their relationship, there's plenty of UST and PDA happening. The plot itself... more>> is pretty well paced. It is protagonist shou and follows the MC's POV a lot, sometimes ML doesn't appear for a while. However, I thought that the supporting cast was pretty interesting and quite a few had some character development of their own.

About PDA:

Spoiler

Their kisses are so hot omg. No smut though. Hand holding and sleeping together. Fade to black s*x scenes. Also there's a scene of them cooking together and it's adorable.

[collapse]

About the OG plot of the book they're in and how much of it occurs:

Spoiler

MC changes quite a bit of how things unfold. And the butterfly effect is strong. ML does not die. ML does not end up getting given away to the sadistic business man. MC also does not die. It is a happy ending. MC also never actually does anything that would make ML hate him. There also aren't any tragedies involving the "good" supporting cast characters.

[collapse]

In summary, it's a pretty fluffy novel imo with some angst here and there. It's 1v1, HE. <<less

Why not to read?

For me this slow burn was not worth it. Because even though they get lovey dovey after that but it's not enough compensation for how much chapters they have taken. After getting together, most of the time they are taking care of the problems around them and that's it.

So basically I think there is no romance at all. They are just solving the problem or people around them.

There is not even a single 'Yaoi' kinda intimate scene which would have compensated my heart for the time taken. It should be in shounen-ai genre.

There is nothing special about the MC or the ML. Things are so many things which are unnecessary like forcefully dragging the plot.

ML is hyped too much but nothing is seen in action like process of him doing things.

I can understand MC's denial but it was just too much.

Why to read?

Healthy relationship. If you are into light romance novels you can give it a go. The relationship development is good (I think it was the whole focus of the story which is really good but it feels stretched out). They understand each other very well. You will find the romance very soothing sometimes, for eg - their calls; harmonious silence.

Other problem I found is with the writing. The author in every paragraph of ML's description or interaction has mentioned how chilly his eyes are or how there is no ripple etc repeatedly. (I found the too much repeatation unnecessary; We get it that he has ice cold personality okay). And the I really could not get it properly that how did he took over as family head position or become successor. I mean it was mentioned repeatedly that he faces alot of problems in the process; the problems are also mentioned But even after putting so much emphasize on this point I did not find the actual process of him taking over. It is just told that people took his side and all but how did he convinced them?- 'How' part is not justified.

Translation is good. MTL is easy to understand. <<less

Hilariously, I had originally marked this down as a skip in my book, but gave it a second shot after skimming a future chapter and surprise surprise, this story yelled ayo BET?!, kicked me in the ankles and dragged me in caveman style. I was quite surprised at how much I truly enjoyed this story, I really liked the interactions and banter between MC and ML. MC is surprisingly charming, ML is cute in his subtle jealousy + refusing to admit he's falling for MC once more, and the side... more>> characters are great as well. The system is a rare case where they aren't annoyingly overbearing or useless either. I must admit, the beginning pre-rebirth part was my favorite because pre-rebirth ML is quite cute!

My only downside to this story would be that the distribution of comedy to drama is skewed the longer it goes on. The beginning is quite fun and mostly comedy whilst the latter almost shoos out most of it in favor of drama and plot. It's not a bad thing, after all it makes sense that the closer we get to the end the faster the plot goes but I do think this story could have done a bit better upon pacing or drama distribution, as the beginning and middle is a bit too light while the last half is a bit too heavy. I felt as if the playfulness or characterization of MC gets a little lost in favor of moving plot along as well. There's several loose threads that look really important that never got resolved or fleshed out, and the ending is a bit muddled as it seems like the author couldn't decide if they were going to usher in a new arc or end it there and meanders aimlessly for a while before finally ending. However, my few gripes aside this was an absolute pleasure to read and I highly recommend giving this a shot. <<less

This is an excellent novel - beautiful and full of intrigues, and gosh very deep.

The title is quite misleading tbh, in the way that it makes it sound very cliche and ordinary. But I assure you that's not the case ;) There is so much going on, and the author really has a grasp on what she/he is doing.. The MC has his developments and character building, likewise for the ML. Their love is so hot and passionate, yet due to certain circumstances, they can't be together as freely as... more>> you would've liked - but this is what makes it all the more interesting and intriguing~

The side characters are also no joke - they each all have their own developments and settings. Friends, families, subordinates etc etc all have a part to play, which their decisions and actions all have an effect on the plot line.

All in all, there are happy, sad, romantic, hilarious and painful moments in this novel. Not one characters, especially the main leads are flat at all - all have their own background stories and maybe some painful memories that some have experienced. A brilliant plot line - interesting and full of schemes. In addition, translation work is amazing - thanking the Chrysanthemum translation team :)

Absolutely recommending this - you'd be surprised to see how deeply well written this novel is - a gem! =≫o^ <<less

4 stars because the MC and the ML have reasonable personalities and equal dynamics.

MC isn't a damsel in distress, and ML isn't a knight in shining armor. That's what I look for in a romance — they have to be equal. Both are capable in their own ways, independent without the other, but together there is harmony.

The progress in their relationship is slow, and that makes sense. If you want the ML to fall in love quickly with the MC and vice versa, despite the supposed hatred and dislike between... more>> them, then this just isn't for you.

Also, the side characters have a bit of depth to them.

For the plot and other scenes, I have nothing to say except that there is nothing special about it. It's so-so, not bad but not good either. It dragged on and the ending wasn't fulfilling. <<less

I think it deserves a rate around 3, 5 / 5. It's definitely not bad and it has rather pleasant ML for a change, but it's also quite slow for he kind of story it presents. To press it in short summary of course it's about MC who is bound to follow the script, but inevitably due to his own temperament of being different from original owner and also wanting to ease few things for his possible better ending ends up changing the initial dramatic plot into something different, although... more>> same events arrive they have different outcome. And also evokes ML's love for him. But because of repetitive events and dialogues, sometimes watery lyrical moments that take enough space it kind of drags things out and due to events turning for better and sometimes lack of decent drama and face slapping it is indeed a peaceful read, but thus feels a bit long for what it presents in the text. And again, it's not a bad novel, it's a pleasant read.

P.S.: One of the novels where system is truly unnecessary (for almost entire novel, except the ending), I wish he had plot and data in his head without the useless system that doesn't really bring any feature with it. This part really irked me at times and it def didn't work the way it could have. <<less

The actual question about the plot - why the f would you need a transmigrator to complete the EXACT same thing as the previous character? What's the point? There is none for me.

The beginning is not bad though. The ending is neat, I loved the part where CP actually confess everything to each other.

but still, in every novel's scene there is lack of real action - for example - the kidnapping - the author doesn't bring readers to an actual kidnap scene, but we stay away to wait for a... more>> result.

Reader is really like a bystander, nor participating in any action, just reading about them afterwards. And that, sorry, let's be honest here - is not interesting to read what so ever. <<less

Normally I really love slow burn novels but this is on another level. In the beginning I really liked the characters & the way plot was going. BUT it become soooo boring after ML's rebirth, that I literally glossed over the chapters. And story becames bland & side characters just keep causing trouble for no apparent reasons. Overall story just doesn't really has much going on anything interesting. And sometime you don't even understand why MC is doing something when he can achieve his goals just by simply talking to... more>> people & resolve things in simple manner, so why go on hard & rocky way? For more angust?

And don't even start on their petty plays, it's so annoying that I just couldn't keep up. And the ending was so rushed that I didn't even understand some parts. Like ML's family & their conflict & how he overcome things at end. Where & how ending came form? It came so suddenly that I didn't even expected but does author gives us any explanation? Nope, Nothing. You get no explanation at all. Author just gloss over everything & come back to his petty & angusty plot.

And the way MC started acting at ending part of the story was so annoying that I just wanted to slap him. I literally sometimes wondered, did he even loved ML? I know it has shown how much MC has done it for ML,...... blah blah blah. But seriously I kinda questioned at the end that did he ever really truly loved ML? Like he ever trusted him fully? To tell him his doubts? His insecurities? At end it felt like they were just living together but not as lovers but as roommates with feelings but misunderstanding for each other. It felt forced & distant to me, like MC didn't had choice to be with him or he thought he loved him. Of course people can have different opinions on this matter & its different topic completely but I just wanted to put my doubt.

Anyways the story & plot was so-so. I will never want to re-read this novel, ever. If people like slow burn, like seriously slow burned plot, with petty characters for no reason, agonizing angust then go ahead it your story. But it's just not my cup of tea, wasted my time MTLing & completing it. <<less

3.5/5. Some boring parts here and there, but overall okay. Ending was a bit of a cop-out. Bumped up to 4 because face-slapping is nice to read.

Ever read a slow burn story so slow that a snail could run laps around it?

Now you can!

Transmigrating into the Reborn Male Lead’s Ex-Boyfriend is exactly what it says on the tin.

Song Xuanhe was going to die, then one day, he wakes up in the body of book!Song Xuanhe, a scum villain cannon fodder mini boss who died without a whole corpse after offending the protagonist of the world.

Whoops.

Together with his system, Song Xuanhe must go through the scenarios written in the book until his untimely death at a pack of beasts. Simple, right?

But of course, things change, and Xiao Yuanmu, Mr 'I'm the protagonist', seems to be a little different from the book. Hmm.

Overall, this is a very slow burn novel. The MC and ML spend quite some time apart, in different countries, and the tone of the story slightly changes to a more revenge based one after Xiao Yuanmu ends up in an accident.

Spoiler

(And in pops Book ending!Reborned twice!Xiao Yuanmu, who is really not happy with the fact that his other self has started to fall for our MC)

[collapse]

Plot wise:

Like a lot of other business novels, this is quite a dog-blood novel, with scheming relatives and white lotus, misunderstandings and shameless suitors. The second half of the story (where book!Song Xuanhe didn't have much scenes) is slightly different from the first half where Song Xuanhe had to follow the plot and system. While he still had to follow, most of those scenes were far apart, and it's mostly focused on a business-type novel style.

The ML also doesn't have many scenes in the middle-to-later part of the novel, and for those that might not be that interested in other side plots, this novel might not be one for you.

The ending, while being a happy one, feels a bit like a cop-out with the words 'happy end' tacked onto it.

Characters:

The MC and ML changed a lot throughout the whole story. Personally, while I preferred the OG!ML, and not the reborn one, the MC also goes through this same dilemma, treating them as a boon character, before slowly realising that the world he is in is a real one, with people that have their own thoughts and dreams.

Initially, their relationship is very strained due to several factors involved. Firstly, OG!Song Xuanhe had forced Xiao Yuanmu into a relationship, and while the dynamics changed later, this is brought up several times in the novel. Secondly, misunderstandings! Due to the MC having to do stuff like acting like a scum because of the original book character, this causes misunderstandings that are either increased through more misunderstandings, or solved by someone else misunderstandings something.

Thirdly, family. Because this is a business novel with rich kids, the tensions that the families bring play an important part in the novel, from antagonists to mini-bosses or supporting mother's that really love their sons.

The side characters are funny, from good bro Zhou Nan to the ever confident Louis, each of them are also important to the plot in certain ways, and always have links to what happened in the original book.

TL;DR:

Slow burn business novel, so slow that a snail could run circles about it. MC and ML spend some time apart, and readers that don't like reading about "are they together or not?" relationships or long-distance relationships might want to give this a miss.

The story is actually kinda simple with no unnecessary dog blood drama. The romance is slow burn like it's actually took so long for MC to realize his feeling and for the MC and ML to finally be lovey dovey. The story begins strong and interesting but then gets kinda dull in the middle for me. Such a pity coz I think the plot and the side characters are quite promising and could've been explored more.

But I really liked the MC and ML in this one. Their relationship feels real... more>> and has a nice flow. Hence the reason I keep reading it till the end. The ending feels rushed and off. But we got HE so everything ends well.

I dislike it when the MC and ML break up and get back together. The long separation in the middle irked me, a lot, along with the prolonged misunderstandings/doubts between them. I thought the ML was way more interesting before his rebirth.

ok, I admit it, I'm picky when it comes to novels, even online novels.

on the plus side, the MC is intelligent and acts his age for a change (though he and the ML are somehow still 'pure'). Sadly, there wasn't the tag-team awesome *sskicking (verbal or physical) that I was expecting when I read 'power couple' in the tags. It was usually just the ML telling the MC to wait at home while he took care of this or that. When the MC gets to do something, the ML is usually in another country. Most of the romance was one or the other flip-flopping back and forth about whether or not they were in love.

the end was alright, but I thought that last bit of drama was unneeded as there's been so much already and I was expecting a chapter or two if sweet fluff but nope. Overall a decent read but I probably wouldn't read it again. <<less

OOOF, gave up right before the finish line! I had been tempted to quit for a while but I wanted to see how they'd get together. After that though, I really just gave up JDKSOSPD Anyway! Not a bad read. It has a lot of great elements, but execution was a bit clumsy.

CHARACTERS:

Characters are pretty good and there's definitely depth to them! Just like with other aspects of the story though, I noticed inconsistencies that drove me mad

Song Xuanhe (MC) : A transmigrator who ends up in... more>> the body of a third generation young master who ab*ses the protagonist of the original novel. His personality is a bit all over the place so it's hard to pin him down. Main thing is that he's pretty stubborn, and also pretty arrogant. ((I liked his complexity only a little bit less than I disliked it LOL. He really tried my patience T.T and his character settings don't really make sense. The author gave him a lot of conflicting thoughts.)

Xiao Yuanmu (ML) :

The original protagonist of the novel. He's a Regressor that is reborn into his past self. Of course, he has the memory of the OG!MC's past ab*se. However, when we meet him for the first time, he had not gone through rebirth yet. ((NGL, I liked him more before his rebirth LOLOL, he was a lot more proactive and thus, a lot more interesting. I still liked him after rebirth but not as much. Especially when they had to separate).

SETTING:

Pretty much just your average modern setting, though the MC does have a system, it doesn't really do much to affect the world's design.

ROMANCE:

From the summary, you'd expect this to be a comedic romance JDKSOS but that's far from the truth! If you're going to read it, read it with your eyes open

knowing that this isn't really a romance story at all. But more of

honestly, it's so messy it's hard to say that the point of the story is. Difficult circumstances and choices??? Point is, don't read this thinking it's a sweet romance, it's very much the bittersweet kind of romance for a long while with seemingly no hope of their love seeing the Sun.

Anyway, the ML catches feelings first but he's only a little bit less stubborn than the MC. Their dynamics are very pretty much defined by the bickering couple tag!

PLOT:

As mentioned, the plot of the story is a bit all over the place. I think this may either be because the author is just inexperienced or they gave up on important plots somewhere along the way. There's a lot of hanging plot elements as well as scenes that feel jarring in hindsight (as they don't go anywhere or do anything). There's also the inconsistencies that make things even more confusing T.T

If one were to ask what plots are most crucial it would be:

    • MC has to follow the original direction of the plot and suffers from having to copy the OG!MC's actions, especially when up against the reborn ML.
    • Rich family shenanigans (the toxic life of the rich lol)
    • Bitter romance (very dramatic feel to it, the kind where you're wrung dry before being given a somewhat satisfying ending)
RATING;

Rating for this is 3/5. I found myself dissatisfied with the story. Maybe because it just wasn't what I was expecting? Expectations are the worst, they suck the fun out of everything

but to be fair, the summary is pretty misleading! This really isn't your average, transmigration story at all. It's much more grim and droll. I didn't appreciate the way the author meandered around different plot lines either. It made it difficult to care about what was going on, especially when you the setup seems really good and then you suddenly get nothing T.T

Still; despite my general dislike of the author's methods, I did say in the beginning that the story had great elements (just clumsily handled). So, I'm definitely not against coming back and reading it again one day, just to give it another shot. Maybe I'll like it better knowing what to expect and what not to expect!

As for whether I'd recommend this? Sure! If you're interested in a more mature novel (not in terms of smut cause this is non-explicit LOL), then this is a good read. Especially if you like angst and slow burn romance! <<less

I want to rate this higher but I really can't. At first it looks like a slow burn romance and everything is fine. Until you realize they have sudden jumps in their s*xual relationship in one sentence when they have been pining for 50 chapters, and that the petty drama is never ending from random side characters. I got really bored reading because this novel is the epitome of pretending to ramp up to the good part but never reaching it. The ML and the MC do this pining dance... more>> for like forever and you never get to see it, instead it's endless petty drama from irrelevant side characters over and over.

If you're the type of person who likes watching dramas that last for 1000+ episode, this is a BL version of it. If you want an actual relationship and to see development, read something else because it's not worth slogging through this. <<less

It's like a soap opera. There is a lot of petty bullying. A LOT. It seems to be the authors favorite method for plot progression. Because of the original story line that the MC was transmigrated into I wouldn't have thought much of it if it was was just between the MC and ML, but cannon fodder side characters keep on leaping into the story to try and created trouble. The cannon fodder villains are written to be extremely unlikable (to the point they are a bit pitiful) and the... more>> main characters just shred them apart. The story always makes it feel justified, but I find myself cringing at how far it goes. The main characters aren't unlikable, and the story isn't really badly written, but I think the author enjoys writing face slapping scenes a bit too much. I guess that overall I like the story, but I'd be hesitant to recommend it to people without warning them first that a lot of the characters in the story are jerks. <<less
