On the night of Xiao Ke’s thirtieth birthday, he shared a table while drinking. The person he shared the table with was a cool man who fit all of his aesthetic desires. It was practically love at first sight.

He was thirty; he had reached that age where he was no longer the awkward twenty-something youth. He would pursue the one he liked without hesitation, no questions asked.

“I want you to give me a tattoo. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”

this book is one of the best modern romance I've read. I recommend it but I think readers need to be mature enough while reading this book. This is one of the most realistic books I've ever read. The audience should be accepting because this is no fairytale, its just a realistic romance between two adults who have their own problems but still try to work it out. The protagonists are both mature and realistic, that's why I enjoyed it. The story has a plot and isn't one of those... more>> nonsensical fluffy stories that aren't realistic. This is just my opinion, have a good read. <<less

I believe a lot of the negative reviewers have reading problems. I was worried for no reason and it made my reading experience bad. Those reviewers are the type to interpret it way over the top, like a friend who exagerate. From the reason why MC took time after knowing ml's past to why he let ML top him despite saying he is a top himself, everything is explained logically to the mc's personality. Every individual's reaction and priotize is different but you're making it sound that the logical reaction... more>> in a particular action is yours. This novel doesn't need you to read between the lines, this is not a mystery novel, read it as it is. <<less

“No matter what you choose to leave on your body, it’ll be forever. Carving something into your skin is a type of burden. Even until death, you’ll have to live with your hopes and thoughts from that moment. If you don’t change your mind, it’s a memento and gift. But if you do, it becomes a weight you’ll have to carry forever. With such an item on your body, it’ll be a continuous reminder that you no longer feel that way. This is a painful thing.” -Zhou Zui

By far one... more>> of the most realistic slice of life novel. A story between two adults that have a very painful and traumatic past. I adore the maturity of this story, the ML and MC communicates well. I also love their set of friends, they are hilarious and very supportive. I especially love Xiaobei and his own love arc.

Highly recommended! <<less

How come this novel has every single thing that I like?

My review may contain mild spoilers. Idc I'm just expressing my love for this novel.

I really really adored this story. I felt the characters, I felt their emotions, and I fell in love with them as a whole.

I really liked Xiao Ke's (mc) character and his personality. I liked the way he thinks and his morals. He's so lovable. I was supporting him the whole time in his pursuit for ML lol. I also lowkey felt jealous of his bonding... more>> with his family. His family is a gem.

Zhou zui's (ml) character was hard for me to grasp in the beginning. I didn't understand him well. But slowly as I got to know him, I understood him. I liked the realistic vibe of his character. He had his flaws and his weaknesses. He is scared, and throughout the story we did see him being scared, it didn't happen all of a sudden. I loved how we could clearly see how his barriers got slowly broken by MC and how he let MC in.

In the beginning, I thought this would be one of those relationships where only one person out of the two calls the shots. I thought maybe ML will be getting upper hand of declaring his decisions throughout the entire story but THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN AND LET ME TELL YOU I LOVED THAT. ML let MC take time when he needed it, ML placated MC when MC got angry. ML let MC call the shots when needed. ML overthinks a lot, which I relate to and so I completely understood his fears. He's been like that for such a long time, let him take time and fix himself!! He can't just automatically change his thought process and what he thinks of himself.

Their relationship was 5 star for me.

I think all the side characters were really lovable. I mean except for "that" guy. I also felt sympathy for worker Lin but honestly, he deserved it and what is gone, is gone forever. We all have to move forward anyway. I loved ML and mc's friends. Some of the customers from the tattoo shop were also sweet, such as the girl who tattood her boyfriends face and such. Lu xiaobei is the best wingman ever. I loved his character and the extra chapter as well *wink*.

I liked knowing more about tattoo as well. I almost planned out everything for myself to get an ankle tattoo lol.

The translation was great, so was the story flow of the author. I'm glad I discovered Tattoo. It has become one of the best stories I've ever read.

I'm not going to nitpick. I don't think there is anything for me to nitpick because I felt like I did understand where ML and MC is coming from. I didn't feel bored at all. I quite liked it and squealed some of the times when ML said/did something unexpected (that i, nor the MC expected him to say/do lol). Anyway, I can't really over analyze these stuffs. If I like, then I like, if I don't like, I don't take another glance at it. And I really really really liked it. I think this is the 1st book I've read in modern world setting (i mostly read ancient world/period stories) where there was a strong side character who had great involvement with the story (xiaobei). I like stories with amazing side characters.

It was an amazing experience. Thank you. <<less

Truly a wonderful gem.

This novel is not the typical overly dramatic that keeps on exaggerating details. It's on point and very simple. It's not light-hearted but after you finish it, it strikes your soul and makes you imagine them living in real life, in this world. In other words it's really a slice of life 😌. The way MC approached and pursued his Sweetheart and managed his relationship with ML really makes this novel commendable. The story pacing is just right. I really love reading mature novels especially if the... more>> characters are as mature as this one, albeit-childish but cute at times, that's necessary to make their character believable and the balance is just right unlike others making your head ache and makes it unbelievable to relate to real-life.... Sighh
Greatly recommended if you want to cleanse your palate from reading those vomit-inducing, abusing-the-hearts-of-their-readers novels. Yes I read those before encountering this one thats why I appreciate this Novel. It's just so heart warming and healing and the pain that comes with it is just right. Giving thanks to the author and translator for this awesome work 🙏🏼 <<less

A slice of life chill strangers to lovers romance. Our MC pursue the ML sincerely and realistically. Their relationship is not tarnished by absurd jealousy or abuse tropes that seem to dominate cnovel romances. Its got a subtle tone so it may be bland for some. I really like it. I reread whenever I need a palette cleanser after reading something that confuses toxic affection with sincerity of feeling. Strongly recommend.

Great example of mature characters and healthy relationship.

In this novel MC pursues the ML. The whole process is the best part of novel and that's what makes it different from other novels.

MC neither rushes nor clinges to the ML. He gives him time and space.

ML has a psychological trauma because of his ex. MC heals him.

I like the decisiveness of MC.

Definitely a must-read. Reading this feels like you're like, embraced by the most comfortable fabric. This is a very sweet and pure novel. Purer than yo mama.

This will teach ya how to respect your lover, (y'all must respect yo lover) and to be a sensible partner (y'all must be sensible) . Their romance is basically what I want in my life 💅. Tis not completely a slow-burn, the pacing is puurrrrfect.

These fine fine men are both mature and thus want a stable and long lasting relationship, so it's... more>> wise that they don't rush things. I fell in love with both characters and I'll keep them in my plump beating heart forevah. <<less

It's really hard for me to say this, bc all of the rewiews I have read were so good... But exactly, bc of that I probably had to much expectations. (There aren't acually any full sexy scenes in there)

Tbh it was a boring read, I never felt close with the characters and everything was very repetitive (the MC went to work, visited his parents, went to the tattoo shop) I didn't feel exited while reading and kept considering if I should even finish the whole book.

But if u are... more>> just looking for a chill and easy read, then go for it.

Tho I liked the last ch. a lot! The second couple was much more interesting and cute, even tho their story was very short... Sadly :' ((

This novel is about the healing after the pain.

How does one handle trauma? Of course, it is different for everyone, but for most, healing is both an internal process, and an external one. Coming to terms of your own feelings, but also confiding and connecting with others.

This novel truly is quite unique, and it's been awhile since I've read such a deep and meaningful BL novel. Zhou Zui's trauma is portrayed rather realistically, as well as his own reactions to it. Even if it seems as though he has moved... more>> on, in so many subtle ways, he has changed from it, and even if just a little bit, his heart still bleeds over it. And even more, he feels guilty that he is still impacted from it.

I hope that all the Zhou Zuis in the world, all of those that-have-moved-on-but-really-haven't, to be able to find their own Xiao Ke- someone (or something) patient enough, understanding enough, to help carry the burdens, to draw tattoos over the scars.

Anyways, I highly recommend anyone to read this, idc if ur a BL reader or not, this isn't just a yaoi story. The MC and ML are beautifully drawn and I can't help to connect with them, even through just 49 chapters (that I finished in a day btw). Although they take center stage, our precious side characters, especially Lu XiaoBei, must not be forgotten. It's also important to note that for Zhou Zui, it didn't take just one person for him to recover, his friends, his apprentice, all were by his side and played an important role. Now time to tiredly search for another gem :'D <<less

Oh please read this one. It's a gem. Istg.

I really wasn't expecting to love all the characters damn. Our MC is so mature, I'm in love with his personality. And oh so sweet ML he's like a huge baby lol. Anyway I suck at writing reviews but I really really loved the way this novel was written. I had a faint smile on my face while reading for almost 99% of the novel. Even the side characters were pretty fun. I also felt like the characters were very real? SO THIS NOVEL IS REALLY SWEET AHH

Two words: realistic and comforting. The progression of the novel is relaxed, not too fast that it's unrealistic like most quick transmigration or some rebirth novels, and not slow enough that it's boring either (clarification: there is no quick transmigration or rebirth here).

Sure, the MC does basically all the persuing and the ML takes a while to be willing to start the relationship but their behaviors are actually pretty understandable. And even if not, they're both comfortable in their roles. The MC who is the bottom likes persuing, the ML... more>> who is the top is more passive but devoted. The relationship is slow, relaxed, and natural without being over the top and the translation is great as well.

Its also very very satisfying to see how the MC slowly worms his way into the ml's heart. And the best part is that they both enjoy the process. In other novels it's the ML or MC setting out to get the other while being completely focused on the end goal. Here they have fun with the process and in turn we readers enjoy every step of the way as well.

Some may find this boring or too slow but it was a really nice read after all the cliche love at first sights because of the mc's "pure eyes" or innocence with 0 character growth. Plus, the characters seemed human. The ML wasn't an overbearing president and the MC wasn't perfectly pure and innocent or calculating and scheming under a facade of innocence either. <<less

a bit angsty at parts and i, someone who doesn’t usually seek out angst, loved it. The leads were really cute and communicated well together, and the side characters were all lovely and/or interesting. A good read for when you don’t want overly complicated stories but still wanna eat up drama

Well written story where both MC and ML were well developed, author going in depth on how the loving pair met and over a year of courtship over the bad past experience of ML.
In short, the journey of a mature love story on how ML slowly opening up his heart to MC.
The side characters were adorable with good chemistry.

A beautiful romance between a teacher and a tattoo artist. Not the first BL I read about mature men in their 30s but the theme of maturity vs impulsivity is pretty well developed here.

The world of tattoo artists was very interesting and reminded me of my own tattoo experience. It's like a behind-the-scenes look into the work of tattoo artists, but with a uniquely chinese flavour, which I loved.

The only thing I did not like was the author's penchant for melodrama ... more>>
Spoiler

for e.g when MC took 3 weeks to actually reach a decision about their relationship after the dark secret was revealed (which actually was not even ML's fault). If MC was scared off or disgusted by ML's past, his indecision would have been understandable, but he was not. His reason for keeping away was actually more superficial but way more interesting... does it take 3weeks to figure this out though? Of course, in the meantime MC has to leave a crytic message online just to keep the angst going, which I find very contrived drama and also not in line with MC's character. The whole situation with Lin An is also such a heartbreak

This is a gem. I am so glad that I read this, and I will be coming back to re-read it many times. Thank you to the writer for creating these beautiful characters who were flawed yet so genuine. I loved and was inspired by their will to move forward in life despite its challenges and heartbreaks. And thank you to the translators for their hard work. So pick it up and read it! I have yet to read the extra, so I still have some more time to spend... more>> with these characters. <<less
