Lin Qing He transmigrated into the novel and became one of its cannon fodder. The novel’s background is non-viable-1960s, time of want to eat but nothing to eat and want to wear, nothing to wear. Although the lack of supplies and life was monotonous, this wasn’t what she was concerned about because she got a small personal interspatial space, which is stuffed with supplies, so temporarily no worries about basic needs.

What she is worried about, if she remembers correctly, her three so-called sons will become big villains in the future, and their upright and cold dad will end up in an indestructible end.

Lin Qing He looked at the three future villain sons, eldest who was only five years old, the second child was only three years old, and the third child was only one year old, and decided to give them half a big white bun first…

This novel contains lots of things. Many wonderful and others redundant but just as enjoyable. There’s too much for me to really put into words a accurate review of my experience reading this. Rather than a critical review of it’s writing and composition, which I too often see while scrolling through “reviews”.

But what I can say without a doubt is that-

-It was fun. It was sad. It was funny. It made me laugh. “It was worth it!”, from start to finish.

P.S. The FL is amazing and really suits... more>> my taste in smart, strong, and independent female characters. The rarity of that character in my search of Web-novels alone could make this worth the read. <<less

I've been sticking to this book for almost a year long. It truly is one of my comfort reads.

I'm not very good at detailed reviews and such, especially expressing myself when reviewing books.

But, what I can say is, if you are looking for a mid-paced story with a penchant to relax you, this story is for you. It really is an amazing story personally for me. How the main character Lin Qing He is portrayed is very satisfying.

There isn't really big dog blooded drama, yes there are some spats, especially... more>> with Second Sister-in-law and the occasional bad neighbor. But Lin Qing He and Zhou Qing Bai just brush it of and keep spreading dog food.

Their family dynamics are awesome and sometimes comedic.

If you are a bit overstuffed with all the clichéd drama filled chinese novels, this novel is truly a breath of fresh air. Highly recommend. <<less

The novel itself is quite good, although I'm not that fond of the matchmaking part of the novel. The ending is quite bittersweet.

Spoiler

P.S I mlted it, MC and ML is like inside a coffin together I think because it specified in the dark and the setting is in a funeral, also the last line in the novel was the ML speaking. I'm waiting for the translated version of the ending as well as the extras.

The writer of this novel is generous enough to give us a glimpse of what China was like during the 10 years of the Cultural Revolution.

I say generous because the author wrote it as is, not in protest but as praise for the Chinese people who triumphed against all odds during this bloodiest period of their nation's history.

Seventeen million young people were sent down to the provinces during the Cultural Revolution. Nobody knew what happened to them. Nobody knew what they did. But history called them the Lost Youth of... more>> China and nobody knew why. At least reading this novel, I am given a glimpse of what really took place during this dark era of Chinese history and for that, I am very grateful to the author.

Mabuhay ka sa iyong katapangan, Author.

The novel itself is very good. It is a reset of a life that followed the same misfortune as the nation. This time, the girl who took over was sensible and had the entrepreneurial can-do attitude of a modern Chinese woman. She's very family oriented and she really works hard in giving her boys a good life.

In a way, the novel serves as a good example of a life well-lived with education and a crappy life most will live without an education.

In this case, I really feel for the second brother who is married to a woman who's not only bitter but will also not hesitate to pull down anyone with her to the grave, most notably her kids. Thank god for their aunt who pull them up when needed.

Very good novel from a writer who really knows her stuff. <<less

This is really one of great back to the past, transmigration story so far.

It's very detailed. I know some would drop this when reading the first chapters saying it was too boring or lengthy but it all made sense.

All characters and the plot as well are all well written. I like how the ending included the summary of what happened to each characters.

The ML and FL lived till 90 and was very successful, it has 701 chapters and worth reading.

I love this story! It's a slice of life that is not overly focused on farming. I like how the MC has worked through all the family drama and raised the family's quality of life. It's sometimes long-winded how stories seem to drag on but still fun. It's a good read if you want a transmigration novel that focuses on cultivation, kings, emperors, princes, and downright annoying political plots. The MC has space, but it's mostly used for business, and it's not as OP as other novels where the MCs... more>> have spaces with springs, mana, energy, other creatures, and other overly fantastical things. I like how the space is literally just a space for storing, hahaha...

I love how the MC and her husband interact. They are just too cute. The man dotes on his wife but not in an overly overbearing way like in those CEO novels. Their children are also great! I also like how the story not just focuses on the MC, her husband, and children but branches out into her other family members, too, like nieces, nephews, in-laws, and more!

I tried MTLng this, but I didn't like the result, so I'm just waiting for the author to update...

I really recommend reading this if you like a transmigration novel focused on the slice of life, but the MC is not too ordinary 'cos she still has her space! <<less

A very good story! Spend a week to finish and its worth it.

The MC is not hypocrytical. She has her own principle and stick to her own beliefs.

Everyone is not over exaggerated. Like a mary sue in other novels.

The ML is a bit dull for me. I want more interactions... Sweet ones I mean.

The three child have their own paths and I'm satisfied.

Wish there is a special chapter about what happened in the future.

It's a soap opera, but a good one.

Cooking, doing business, buying properties, matchmaking, marriages, childbirth, divorces, it got them all. A very relaxing read.

I had to read a few Wikipedia articles about Chinese history (about the cultural revolution) to understand the story better, and I'm glad I did.

The translation quality so far is good. I recommend reading it.

This is one of the good ones. Like its very much not a drama fic, do not expect a lot of face slapping or dog drama, overly top revenge stories etc.

This is just MC trying to feed her and the kids and their father while also trying to make a life in late roaring 60s.

Majority of the story is in the 70. 250 chapters in and I can say this is the story I enjoy most of all.

MC is not a Saint, she has no interest in helping others just... more>> because of her good heart, she's not evil but her goals are centered around her and her family wellbeing.

Shes not there to save anyone really, raise the kids, get more money, find financial stability but she has no plans to save anyone from the reality of this era.

At times I can feel that she is cruel and you could argue that is just because of that era. But I also feel that MC also has some prejudices that she apparently still thinks that some people are having a happy marriage. They don't being up domestic abuse or the power imbalance that can exist between married couples, to much at least.

Spoiler

what I mean is that she looks very much down upon women who sleeps with other men, who aren't their husbands. Though she never talks bad about those people she also just sits there when other do bring this up and says nothing. In many cases people would view this as her agreeing.

I feel. Like the author is the one who has very narrow views about what a woman should or shouldn't do when unmarried/married.

[collapse]

Still I do enjoy this simply on the fact that MC is relatable and feels very genuine in her character traits.

And one of the best part of this story is that while there are antagonistic people, those who don't agree or look down on MC, they aren't really the usual trope of an villian.

Spoiler

one of the best example is the second sister in law, who at first is very against MC and her ways, her feelings are grounded in jealousy and wanting to be able to do the same as MC but not having the financial stability to do so. But while this sometimes escalate by the time MC has lived there for 6 years the sister in law has mellowed out. This is feel is an excellent way to show how people can change and don't always have to stay in the same role as they were assigned. They can be allowed to grown and change.

[collapse]

Another reason why I like this story is because of its pace. While I've read a few novels, I rarely find myself sticking to a long story like this simply on the fact that the story is very focused on showing every detail of what the MC is doing.

Here the story knows when to show something, when something new or related to MC goals pops out. But otherwise the story will skip several months at a time just to get the story rolling.

I feel that this story strong point is well the story flows and how it makes me wanna see what will happen next.

Sadly to many other long chapter stories falls prey to the idea of showing ever. Single. Moment to us as the MC goes on their journey. A 24 hour day can sometimes be almost 50 chapters long while here 24 hours story can barely go up to 2-3 chapters. <<less

I dunno what to say, all I knew I obsessed with this novel. The story may contains a simple life, but I can't help to love it more and more they updates. It never disappoint me, and I longed for the longer chapter so I won't see the word 'next chapter' hahaha 🤭

Keep the spirit on author! You're the best!

Completed the book in about a week. I really enjoyed this book and felt very comforted and happy while I was reading it. I actually enjoyed the parts in the village more, watching the MC make the best of what she had and bond with her family. I loved reading about how she would slowly amass wealth and what she would cook for her family regardless of whatever the other villagers said about her.

I really loved Zhou Qing Bai and how much love and respect he clearly had for his... more>> wife. Their love and relationship lasted an entire lifetime and it was just wonderful to experience it alongside them.

Spoiler

I liked the village time more compared to their days in the city because we got to see so much lesser of Da Wa and Er Wa. It was lovely to read about how Lin Qing He would help her family advance in the city but I wish we didn't have to read so much about the children of the other in laws especially Er Ni. The only child of the sister-in-laws whom I cared about was San Ni and I was happy when she finally came to Beijing too. Wish we got to read more about the 3 brothers and their precious daughter.

It's really fun to watch how the family as one grew but there is a certain individuality that is seen on their personalities.

I really loved how the MC manages her businesses and social relationships bc of her temperament and attitude.

Watching them grow and be successful, their is a sense of satisfaction, it's like you've been with them throughout their journey when their still in the village lmao this novel had the lovey dovey fluff vibe but still had drama and tea abt family relationships

Spoiler

some readers didnt like that the MC died first but I think it's good bcuz she died peacefully and like served her purpose, yknow the time that she dreamed of the kids being malnourished/skinny

Wow, I have to say that the author has a talent for making you stick through 'til the ending even when there are freaking 701 chapters of Slice of Life. You will basically read everything that has happened, from when MC was in her 20s up until when her granddaughter has given birth to a son. It's not much of an exaggeration to say that the story covered her whole life. It's truly just Slice of Life. The first parts of the story just tells what they ate that day,... more>> what work did ML do in the farm, and what MC bought from the city. It's just those redundant things, but somehow it gets you hooked.

Nothing too dramatic happens and the plot has few ups and downs. It still feels unreal that I finished this novel after a few days. It's not 5 stars because in terms of plot development, this story still has much to improve on. Also, I just skimmed through the last 5 chapters because it's just unnecessary. I don't have to know what happened to her grandsons and granddaughters. It's already too much characters.

Do give this a try of you have a lot of time on your hands. It's a page turner, I just mtl'ed through when I ran out of translated chapters. <<less

ML was also a very good man and husband, affectionate and openly supportive of his wife, despite everyone around him saying that she's dragging him to ruin.

Despite me enjoying the story, I have to give it four stars. The writing style really pushed a tell don't show kind of thing that it was a bit dry reading it. <<less

Now this is what you call a 'slice of life' genre. From poor farmers in a poor village to business giants in Beijing. This novel took it slowly. A LOT of family drama. Might seem exaggerated but I know from experience that family drama is hell and almost never ending. My favorite character got to be Zhou Kai. I love military man. Long read and simple. Recommended.

The novel is a very casual read. It's long, because the author talks about the life of the MC very thoroughly. What food she cooks, how she uses ingredients, things she buys, her business ventures, etc. It's a very easy going novel.

The transmigrated MC is bulldozing through the original storyline because she was educated before she transmigrated, is knowledgable about food and cooking, and has a "cheat" space. Everything honestly goes smoothly for her. The way it's written very thoroughly makes you enjoy how she's living her life especially as... more>> she had a few days to prepare before she transmigrated. Do note that there are some interesting family drama around halfway through. The story expands to the relatives and their lives. <<less

Really good story. I love the fact that it is so fast paced. This is a fluff story with no added drama. The amount of drama is just enough for this laid back everyday life story. Thank you to the translating team for choosing this novel, they have never missed one of their update dates.

I usually don't mtl a novel unless it's mostly translated (like 80-90% done). But, this novel was SO GOOD I mtl'd the remaining 500 chapters and binged it in 3 days. This is such a great story with excellent plot building/pacing, awesome characters and heaps of family-oriented fluff. Also, the translation is top notch. I definitely recommend this 100%.

It's not some great tragic story neither it's drama filled action packed story but it's great just the way it is, I enjoyed reading this NL, if someone told me I would enjoy this story as much as I do now then I would have been sceptic and give out a very judgmental stare but I am surprised that I genuinely enjoyed it. It's slice of life in '60 rural ML-Chinese village, one can get it with just this line what it implies; raising pigs, chicken, hordes of children, farmers,... more>> restrictions, ruled by Mao. It is all that and more. <<less
