The novel itself is very fun to me and I very quickly binged the whole thing, but the reason why it didn't make it into my A+ list was because the MC, while smart and accomplished, isn't very interesting to me. Honestly I think it makes sense for a story like this to have a MC that doesn't have a super strong personality, but I've always been more of a fan of more personable MCs.

Despite the MC being perhaps more tame in the personality department, I do still enjoy reading about her exploits, and she's a lot more palatable than a lot of other MCs from other novels like this. <<less

My rankings, while it usually takes into account basic things like plot, character and sometimes writing (though not often, as I know there can be some quality loss during translation), it usually prioritises my overall experience with a story. And the truth is that, despite this novel fitting all my likes/expectations to a T, I didn't have that much fun reading it?

I think partially it was due to the fact that the vibe was more serious than other novels similar to this one, but there were still a lot of things I enjoyed about this novel. The MC is experienced and good at what she does, so she does what she needs to do with ease and her journey is very smooth. She also doesn't develop any attachments to the men she's supposed to be winning over, which I appreciated.

Ultimately I just like novels with a more lighthearted feel to them, so that's why this story is in the B ranking list instead of the A ranking list. <<less

What I liked the most about this novel (and I think most readers will agree with me) is the romance/main couple! Their relationship is cute and healthy and features none of the usual toxic behaviour you frequently find in chinese web novels, especially ones set in ancient times.

It's a nice, simple and relaxing read and I would recommend it for people who don't like too much drama. The female lead leads a laid back life as advertised, and faces no real troubles throughout the entire novel (which I personally enjoyed, but if you're the type to like more exciting, dramatic plots, this is probably not suitable for you).

But by far the best part of my experience with this was actually the translation! The translator translated everything smoothly and I didn't have any trouble reading the novel. The chinese terms/names were also explained well and didn't leave me feeling confused, so I commend the translator for doing such a good job. <<less
