Translation-wise, they have to be accessible (meaning no overuse of genre-specific lingo) and (in general) grammatically sound.

Depending on what you're looking for, one site is better than the other. ff.net has a lot for older series and a decent mobile app, but the site is more inactive now. AO3, on the other hand, has a lot of newer stuff, and its search engine is better (e.g. you can search for specific tropes), in my opinion.
