Qi State is suffering from internal and external problems, the national strength is declining year by year, the old emperor made an imperial edict to send Shen Yuhan to make peace by marriage. On the way to the marriage, he met a bandit, Shen Yuhan accidentally fell off the carriage, when he opened his eyes again, he came to a strange world, and in a few days, seems like he’s going to be married to someone, he still can’t escape the fate of getting married.

Shan Qihuan was born in the complicated and wealthy Shan family, with many brothers and sisters, he has outstanding abilities, less than thirty years old but already the CEO of a listed company, he is the best among the young generation of the Shan family.

Because of his father’s absurd dream, their family had to choose one person to marry a prodigal son who was without learning or skills, smoking, drinking, and clubbing, who fight for the affections of a man at the banquet and was pushed into the swimming pool, this man is said to be the only grandson of his father’s late old friend.

After a calculation by a certain magic stick, Shan Qihuan was selected among the many brothers.

Scoff.

After he gets married, he will definitely neglect the prodigal son, no pretense, let the other side retreat in face of difficulties.

On the wedding night, Shen Yuhan stood nervously in front of Shan Qihuan, ready to unbutton his suit.

Shan Qihuan, who was very resistant to getting close to others, wanted to wave his hand away, but when he gently held the other’s hand, the latter raised his head.

Shen Yuhan blushed slightly and asked him softly: “Husband, do you want to rest?” That’s what the people here call their husbands, right?

Being looked at by the beauty with clean eyes, Shan Qihuan took a deep breath: “Rest.”

A word of introduction: Wife, so fragrant.

This novel is so good.

It's better than that book titled wife from ancient times. This one is well written. The MC isn't weak and also OP. He just came from ancient times with knowledge of ancient learning that modern people taken for granted that made the moves of MC so godlike but he's not perfect. The MC is coquettish and seem weaker infront of ML but he never backs down when he encounters bad people haha he treated it like a palace drama. This is the second ancient man came... more>> to modern times that I like the other one was I became popular in modern times where the MC is a painter.

The way MC treated the relatives like those in ancient times, eloquently and elegantly makes me laugh none stop it's funny how those villains get shut up by the MC by his fool proof rebuttals lol.

It was an enjoyable read, ML is a tsun2x but at least not a scum. The MC is kinda pitiful, the first time in a novel that we see a seemingly realistic struggle of a soul transmigrated in to a world he never know. There's a mental issues and struggle to cope up and integrate in the modern society. Almost all the MC's just accepted or early accepted that they transmigrated or maybe it's just because the personality of those transmigrated they easily accepted their reality. But here we see MC struggled, you can feel the loneliness he felt being in a strange world alone plus the relationship between the MC and ML isn't solid yet. I can't even imagine how I'd react if that's me, I probably do the same. <<less

Okay, so I forced my way through the whole story just so I could write this review. I read the synopsis. I read the reviews and tags, I knew what I was getting into. Yes, there was plenty of fluff and dog food scenes, but I couldn't really enjoy them.

First minus star - The writing in the first 30~ chapters was terrible. Clunky with bad transitions, the characters were flat and I almost dropped it just for the quality. Luckily the author improved a bit - still had problems -... more>> but got a lot better as things went on.

Second minus star - The other reason that I wanted write a review was because it bothered me so much the way the story talked about wives.

The whole set up seems to be a promotion of the idea that we should keep modern toys like heating, cell phones and cars, but go for the old ideas about what makes a proper "wife" instead. If this story had been written as BG, I don't think everyone would find the constant praise of the MC's "wifely" qualities quite so cute and see it more as putting down the modern concept of how women - and marriage partners - should be treated as equals not objects.

Most of the modern women are portrayed as shallow, backbiting and inadequate, while the MC is constantly praised with words about how he is the perfect wife. That's emphasized by the way the author keeps throwing in little sayings like: behind a successful man is a good wife, a bitter or mouthy wife can bring a man down, or a man hopes for a good business a woman or ger hopes for a good husband. (It's still insulting if you substitute a man in as the wife/woman)

Even when the MC takes a half-step into modern life, it's only to learn how to use things, or stuff like math. He still defers to the ML on decisions way too much. He lets the ML speak for him all the time. He won't be alone with young men cause that's not appropriate. He never objects or even freaking asks the ML about whether his face should be shown on the internet. He won't even wear short sleeved shirts though he mostly gets over how "immodestly" modern women dress. There's also the way the netizens don't praise the MC for his paintings, music or cooking by name but just scream "wife, wife, wife" at him. And that doesn't bother him.

I usually overlook how stories refer to the shou as a "wife" instead of a "husband" despite gender because it doesn't seem to have any deeper meaning, but here it really felt like the author wanted to emphasize that his major skill was being a wife not an accomplished person.

That the ML's family is set up like a rich feudal nobleman's household only reinforces the impression that the author is putting the old society in a modern setting. The ML's dad's mistresses are even referred to as Second Wife, Third Wife, and Fourth Wife. I'm surprised the ML's dad doesn't have a board full of tokens to flip over each night and eunuchs running his household.

So that's my review. Read a different story. <<less

What a great story! The story evolve between the MC from the past and the ML from the future. Basically, the MC came from the past and died, however, he woke up to another time and wed the ML. I love the MC. He's a ger but like deym, what a perfect wife!

He's multi-talented. He is also smart. He is not easy to be bullied, he bites back! He also loves to act coquettishly. He's such a baby girl! Lmao.

I could understand the ML falling so deeply in love with... more>> him. Deym, who wouldn't???

The ML is sometimes cold, sometimes warm at first. But later on, he'll become so smitten in love that he shows off to everyone how lucky he was to get a wife like the MC. Spreading dog food everywhere in every possible time. Lmao.

Overall, it's really a great fluff story. It may not be perfect but it will make you entertained. The ML is also easy to read. I recommend this! ❤️❤️ <<less

Ugh. If I wanted to read a gb submissive wife story, I'd read one. No need to read one where the wife is a male "ger". This book is everything I hate about ABO stories, though I guess it's got gers, not omegas. Overall, hard pass, though kudos to the translation - I really enjoyed practicing my Chinese and learning more phrases. If you want to learn/practice Chinese and enjoy bg traditional romance story, this is a good book to read. I hate the MC submissively calling "husband", deferring decisions... more>> to the "real" man in the relationship, crying at every little thing, only feeling comfortable around females and ger-like men, and so much more. You could argue that "this is just the environment he grew up in", but the problem is that the environment he grew up in is a historic FANTASY. The author MADE UP this super restrictive, oppressive, misogynistic historic environment for the ger to grow up in - it's probably not even historically accurate for women living in Chinese dynasties. Historically there's plenty of strong, independent women who knew how to look out for themselves and strove for what's best for themselves independent of their partner. Not just this submissive, give yourself up to luck and the men in your life bs. I understand the MC being cautious in the beginning, especially when he's aware that being difficult could result in him being homeless on the streets, but what's his excuse once he has money and skills to survive on his own? He doesn't take over the family finances (like a historic wife would have) and remains completely dependent on someone he knows is reluctant to acknowledge him fully.

Anyways, I couldn't take another chapter of the ML being "coerced" into loving the MC by having his every whim pampered to, every uncertainty catered to, and every small thoughtfulness gushed over. Seriously. If you are so ambivalent about your ability to love someone because you BOTH got forced into a relationship on YOUR elder's whim, despite the other person doing everything to make your life more pleasant and being generally very likable, then you don't deserve your easy-to-love spouse.

Now, I don't think I'm a super feminist - I love a man who can pamper me and take care of me, but the way the MC leaves everything up to the "husband" just feels like he's asking to be taken advantage of and under appreciated. I mean, if my husband said something that made me suicidal, he sure as hell better actually apologize and do something more than video call me while on a business trip if he wants me to forgive him. There's poise, class, and good breeding, and then there's setting yourself up to be walked all over. Sure, in this story the MC ends up loved for his pureness and submissiveness, but in reality, he would end up losing himself in catering to someone else. I'm not interested in a book that glorifies that dynamic, especially when there's no plot to take away the distaste from the relationship. There's some illogical jealousies and villains, but their actions don't make sense and I'm left scratching my head at the (il) logic rather than interested in the resolution. <<less

Fluff. The MC is very feminine since he was raised as a woman equivalent in his original world. Actually pleasant read but can be rather boring that's why I stop halfway. Oh and the MC is cute, veeery coquettish, but I guess that's just not my cup of tea...

The only thing that I'm still salty is how the author just brushed off MC's suicidal thoughts... Like what the hell??? I expected the MC and ML to talk properly about that, but in the end there's nothing 🙂. The author just... more>> use the attempted su*cide to make ML apologize without follow up. <<less

I actually quite enjoyed this. I've read many time travel stories before but this felt more "realistic" in how MC (while talented asf) worked hard to modernize and wasn't able to grasp everything from the start.

The love story was cheesy and cute. I like this type of romance where the focus is on the two and there isn't much upheaval and tons of miscommunication. Quite enjoyable and sweet.

Shoutout to the translator! I read every single footnote and learned so much.

If you are looking for a feel good, slice of life, no big drama between the main pair, then this is your novel.

I really enjoyed it. Like I said, it's a feel good. The plot is pretty simple and it's mostly a slice of life. The MC is a former ger that comes to the future, which you don't see often. I really liked seeing ancient people coming to modern times and having to assimilate to a strange new world. I loved how the author handled the MC because he... more>> didn't have a gold finger.

What was basic knowledge to him, (ie. Playing qin, calligraphy, painting,), it was considered an amazing talent by modern standards, and I can see that. In today's society, doing any of these takes time, effort and money and its not something that everyone is interested in doing. Interests lay somewhere else, but we can still consider it cool and that is how the MC became popular online. Still, I appreciate the MC's drive to learn and do everything possible to adapt to his new surroundings.

The relationship between MC and ML was pretty straightforward. There is moments of doubt and jealousy in the beginning, but those get resolved quickly. Even the former crush vanishes into the background and you sort of forget about him as the story focuses only on the MC and ML. There is a moment where the MC and ML relationship is tested but I think this was more of a much needed break.

Spoiler

The MC leaves and joins an archaeology team to serve as a translator. The couple argued. Well, less argument and more a big misunderstanding. The archaeology team had uncovered physical evidence that the MC's former life, family and kingdom was real. The MC had always wondered why there wasn't any mention of his kingdom in the history books, and why no one knew what a ger was. The tomb that was found and the things inside, some of which he recognized as his own, proved to him that his past was real. Anywho, the MC asked ML if he would marry "Miss Shen, " and the ML said that he wouldn't because it was old fashion and he thought "Miss Shen" was boring and they don't have anything in common. Well, ML was saying this because he was proving his loyalty to MC without knowing that MC and "Miss Shen" were the same person. Naturally, MC was hurt and eventually he left.

[collapse]

I honestly think that this fight was necessary and which I appreciate the author added. Although MC has tried to learn and try to become normal by modern standards, he was still an ancient person. From his way of thinking, to how he interacts with other people, are very much a product of his past and being raised in a more strict society. Added to that, he doesn't know what happened to his family and why he can't find any information about other gers and his former kingdom. After this little fight, he realizes that he and the ML don't have much in common, like the ML said, and that its a really possibility that the ML can divorce him, thus removing the only connection MC has with this era. It really highlighted what MC needed to do, and which eventually led him to slowly share with ML about his past.

One last thing I liked and found unique about this story is that the author actually gave us an explanation about why an entire kingdom was erased from history and why no one knows about gers.

Spoiler

Apparently, the kingdom MC was from was small and it eventually fell and joined with a bigger one. All traces of that kingdom was erased by the conquering country which makes sense since you see that in history. Or you don't, I should say. Ha! As for the gers, they were hidden. Gers were a people unique to that specific kingdom and when it fell, the MC's family made it their duty to ensure that all the gers in the kingdom were hidden in plain sight so as not to be exploited or treated as strange creatures by their conquerors.

[collapse]

While the explanation was weak and left a lot of questions to be answered, I thought it was great that the author even tried to offer a logical explanation. Usually, authors just brush it off as being an unknown kingdom never heard before or from a parallel universe. I don't mind those that, but its still nice to see authors trying something new.

The ending was nice and sweet and the extra chapters were also nice to read. I appreciate both the author and the translator for their time and effort. <<less

The first three comments nearly convinced me not to read this novel, but I decided to give it a chance anyway—what's the harm, right? And I'm glad I did; I never regretted reading it. Although I agree that the MC (SYH) is somewhat of a "good wife" (male) and is quite submissive, always listening to his husband, the ML (SQY) treats his wife with great respect. A reminder, even MC looks weak but he only weak and crying in front of his husband like a pampered wife but when other... more>> people trying to mess with MC, MC still knew how to fight with his mouth and that's what make him likeable.

In the first half of the novel, up to around chapter 40 or so, their relationship is depicted with SYH (mc) genuinely treating SQY (ml) ike a devoted spouse. Although SQY is initially suspicious because the previous owner of SYH's body behaved quite differently—more modern and rebellious compared to SYH's current, more traditional demeanor—their interactions are quite engaging. Please trust the process everybody. Its worth the reading. The author's use of nearly 800 Chinese idioms throughout the first 100+ chapters adds a charming touch to their relationship.

As the story progresses, their relationship deepens, and SQY's love for SYH becomes more apparent, though he struggles to express his feelings verbally and instead showers SYH with expensive gifts. They do face conflicts, such as when SYH discovers his brother's descendants' tomb. Remember, SYH is from an ancient era and had disappeared after falling off a cliff, only to wake up in the current era. And how SYH (MC) trying to explain to his husband on how he was transmigrate to current era. I remember crying when SYH tell SQY on how the emperor give edict to his family- then forcely make SYH married with an old man then how he fall of the cliff and wake up in different era - then he trying to adjust his living as to not raise suspicions that he is not the original SYH. I also remember crying when SYH discovered a letter written by his late brother after his disappearance. His family never stopped looking for SHY for nearly 3 years and I believe they never stopped looking for him until their death😭. I knew some people might say, ' if I want to read a submissive bl, I rather read bg novel'. Everybody this is a fiction, things that you rarely found in real life so why just not enjoy it? Is not like the trope where MC is weak/sub and his husband his scum gong. This is the trope where 情投意合" (qíng tóu yì hé), which translates to "mutual affection and harmony. Instead of bashing, this is a quiet sweet lovestory. Take a break from toxic/scum/angst novel and read this please.

My favorite line is when SQY says to SYH, "I'm the one who married you out of thousands of people; fortunately, it's me." That line set my standards for finding a husband!

I highly recommend this novel. If I could give it a million stars, I would! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ <<less

It was fun to read at first but was just okay later on. To be honest, it got a bit annoying towards the end. The plot is straightforward with barely any twists. It was interesting at first when MC's, Shen Yuhan, ancient skills and knowledge was slowly uncovered. However, the author kept pushing this amazing MC product every other chapter. Towards the end, it progressed to comparing how MC is so much better than so-and-so. Then there are also many prominent people who like MC and vie for his attention. The author really, really loves this protagonist. 🙄
Spoiler

MC was going to give his marriage to ML, Shan Qihuan, a chance from the start. However, ML didn't have a good impression of MC due to the original body's owner past actions. Later on, ML thought MC had a change of temperament due to his near death experience. He also wondered if MC was still in love with his younger brother since the "original" chased after the brother.

Once ML got to know MC, he started liking him. They confirmed their relationship and in the end, ML was able to inherit the family's major businesses with MC's assistance.

This Novel is Truly Wonderful so far!!!

I mean, sure the Villains was annoying af like a fly keep trying to bother MC or/and ML, but thank goodness our MC can handle it so Gracefully, while ML doing it Powerfully!

Definitely Love how the author wrote the MC. He's Lovable and Enjoyable to read. He's such a Virtuous Wife, a Clingy one, but absolutely High Class and Graceful like a Swan. He's Truly a Number one Ger in his previous life kingdom.

He doesn't need to have strong Body, because his Brain and... more>> Mouth move so Cleaverly.

A Cute and Charming to people who are Good, and Far from Pushover to Bad people. He's not OP, but he's Graceful and I LOVE him for that. And nothing in his characteristic seems mismatched with those personalities all combined. That's why I said the author did Great writing his character!

Love ML too. He was a Slight Tsundere person. I said 'Slight' because he's not like the usual Tsundere who like to Frown. I imagine our ML have sharp mouth but his facial expression don't frown, or at least not too long. And he's Easily Softened after he get to know MC more.

Even when he made a Big Mistake (only ONCE) that almost lead MC to made a Bad Decision, it only took him few hours to finally realise his wrong doing and make up for it.

He keep learning from his mistakes and we love him for that!!!

He's Truly Sweet and Supportive. Absolutely Doting and Loving.

Our MC and ML are truly Lovable Characters and Couple with their flaws and all.

Also I Entertained with how the author wrote the Family Conflict. Mostly I Love how the Father of ML wasn't painted as Evil Villain nor a Frustrating characters. That was Refreshing. The fact he also like MC, another big relief! He's Absolutely Flawed characters and he realised that, but he's not Evil nor Villain. And I hope he stays that way!

I pray sooo hard there won't be a sudden Knife and the rest of the story is as Good and Satisfying till the end!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Updated at 20 April 2024:

I truly LOVE how MC adored by many Elders. He has more connection to powerful Elders than his husband. Lol 🤣 <<less

Won't rate, got to chapter 35 and don't think I'll continue on. This is just not for me. If I did rate it probably be 2.5.

There are some undertones pushing the ideas of a good obedient wife is the best, as a Westerner these parts made me feel uncomfortable.

I'm all for a woman's (ger's?) right to choose their path. If they want to be a homemaker, great! If they want to be a successful businesswomen, wonderful! It's all about choice. What gave me the ick was how everyone loves him... more>> because he is obedient and naive.

It's really a pitty too because the author did really well with bringing an ancient person to modern times, not flawless, but MC seemed more real. There are some plot holes, but are easily overlooked.

ML was eh. Don't really like him. He just gives me red flags and not in a fun novel way.

The other reason I'm dropping it, is it's a little too slice of life for me. Not much is happening and MC isn't growing much.

The translation is great, plenty of notes and pictures to aid the translation. I may give this novel another go in the future and if I do I will update my rating/review then. <<less

In the story, "ger" are a third gender, looking like men, but able to bear up to 2 children like women. The MC was raised like a very traditional, noble, miss in ancient times and was known as the #1 Ger in the capital.

The MC transmigrates into the body of a man in modern times, in a China where same s*x marriage is legal.
