Before Shen He could even find a boyfriend in his own time, he found himself transported into a novel, taking the place of a doomed character destined for tragic betrayal.

This character was raised by the male protagonist himself, entrusted and nurtured as his closest powerful minister, only to ultimately betray and meet a brutal death at the male protagonist’s hands.

Shen He: Trembling in fear.

Assuming the role of the powerful minister was far from what Shen He desired. He’d rather cling to the male lead’s coattails, hoping that with his support, he could wield some influence and perhaps even find an attractive boyfriend someday.

And so began Shen He’s diligent journey to ingratiating himself.

When he learned to speak, his first word was “Crown Prince”.

When he learned to walk, the first person he ran to was the Crown Prince.

When he learned to write, the first name he wrote was again, “Crown Prince”.

After years of dedication, Shen He became a trusted figure by the Crown Prince’s side. All in all, he enjoyed his role: the perks were grand.

By the time he turned twenty, he hoped to retire with a treasure trove and lead a life of luxury.

He had it all planned out: he would relocate to Jiangnan, a place known for its scenic beauty, and perhaps find a handsome man to call his own.

As days turned into nights, Shen He finally witnessed the male protagonist overcome all obstacles, ascending to unparalleled power. Shen He rejoiced: Retirement, here I come! That very night, he packed his bags, exchanged his wealth, and contacted a close friend to accompany him to Jiangnan.

But instead of his friend, the male protagonist arrived. The male lead, holding Shen He’s chin with a dangerous tone, said, “I heard you’re planning to settle down in Jiangnan and are even thinking of finding a handsome young master to wed?”

Shen He replied nervously, “Is it wrong to want a man?”

The male lead smiled, “Of course not. Choose me, let your ‘Prince Brother’ make you his queen.”

#All I wanted was to lay low, but he wants me to be his queen

#Do I look like someone fit to be the Empress to you?

Loved it.

The progression of the story - good transmigration plotline

the development of feelings - genuine devotion on both sides

the chibi cuteness of MC childhood

all side characters - shout out to the bros and tsundere fifth prince

and MC's love - to all he meets and cares for

Re-readable rate - 100%

Slow-burn. Pseudo-ince$t. Good plot progress. I liked it but throughout the story I hoped for the MC and ML to have some challenges regarding their relationship, priorities and other love interests (non-existent).

Thinking about it now, it is quite bland and a 'so-so' story. In perspective, I think ML just manipulated MC to like him back. MC is gay even from the start but he initially did not have any feelings for ML other than brotherly bond, having familial affection and treating him as the 'protagonist' that he should please but... more>> also be mindful of. Though I agree with the others that feelings did develop, I think that's because MC was limited/restricted/chained down to a comfortable place and never ventured out on his own.

Again, I liked it but I wish it had more depth. <<less

Full of spoiler:

It was a good story. I actually enjoyed reading it. The plot is quite common and there's not a lot of challenges in the story. There's a lot of fluff. What made me rate it 3 star is because of the following:

1. First, the MC is 17 years old, a minor and the ML helped the MC ej@cul@t3. ML actually took advantage of MC. That's grooming. (Which I hate especially in this old era but it is common in old era but still not morally right)

2. The... more>> ML made the MC drink a juice like liquor and he intentionally made the MC drunk to interrogate the MC about their supposedly ending. Upon knowing that the MC will supposedly die, the ML had s3x with the MC. Mind you the ML is 17!! (If my memory serves me right). <<less

CW: Pseudo-in*est.

If you can't tolerate blatant portrayal of pseudo-in*est then I don't recommend reading this. I think the tone was already set within the first chapters with how the relationship between the MC and ML is. Inner monologue of the ML going on about how the child he raised is dear to him and like that are scattered throughout the story so yeah.

That's like a main thing too like since he raised the MC, it's understandable that he is the only one who can understand and protect him best lol

Spoiler

I'm also surprised that no one opposed their supposedly union except the biological brother of MC. Everyone seemed kinda fine with ML, the person who literally raised MC become his partner lol

[collapse]

Also, even though their relationship was established, they still somehow call each other brother. Now, idk if that's just translation thing and maybe it's supposed to be the usage of "Ge/Gege" instead of actual brother. But the only person I remember the MC calling brother was his actual biological brother so yeah.

Anyways, about the story. It's a light read imo. It's not that complex of a story nor were there any heavy conflicts. Not much of political drama or struggles.

Spoiler

Only actual conflict was the true leads' feelings and how they will overcome it

[collapse]

I'll consider it a slow burn since if I remember real development happened only by 80+ chapters in I think. The story is mostly about the MC life and how he hugs ML's thigh lol

One thing I love about this are the characters!! They're dynamic and have their own personalities and not just a decoration.

Spoiler

I mayhaps shed a tear when MC's grandparents died. And the way they also died days after each other pls!

[collapse]

So yeah, still a good read imo if you won't be turned off by the constant reminder that ML raised MC lol <<less

I'm enjoying the story so far, but... reading is getting harder and harder because the way the author wrote the novel makes me feel that MC is super boring.

MC lived up to his 18 years old before ending up as a legitimate son of a dukes house.

Spoiler

He is conscious from moment 0 - from his birth. Tragically his mother died, but she managed to get MC under the 8 years old ML's (crown prince) care before she passed away.

As MC's father is super unreliable, that actually saved MCs life.

On the original, MCs character betrays ML and is executed, so, he is decided to faithfully hold on tight to ML until his "retirement" by the age of 20 (when ML is supposed to get the throne).

[collapse]

We sadly don't get to see much of MLs struggles, as we follow MC and MC is...

Spoiler

completely spoiled, lazy and arrogant.

And maybe he is not that bad, but the way the author wrote it makes me feel that way because there's nothing to balance this personality of his. There's no sense of accomplishment like when the character achieves something.

MC made, with his friends help, a fan, but the author brushed off right after. MC always wants to skip classes. He acts without consequence, doing whatever he wants, never worrying or truly aiming for anything. He brags (to himself, but we get hit by this bullet) all the time about how he is super mature, and then proceeds to act like a baby. He considers himself MLs sidekick, but he knows absolutely nothing about politics, about what is happening, about MLs struggles, nothing - only what he may, out of nothing, remember from the novel.

btw, his knowledge from the novel has been basically useless, as he is always only playing or doing his things.

he got everyone's love almost just for breathing.

and yeah, maybe things aren't so bad, but the way the author wrote the novel made me feel like this.

Like MC is super boring. Just a character playing and bragging using other people's name while life is passing by him.

Even slice of life character have a goal or achieve something for themself, but not this one.

[collapse]

Anyway, I'm persevering waiting for something to happen to MC as I know he will not make anything happen.

EDIT (reached chapter 83) :

So, apparently I just had to wait a little bit more, because just few chapters after the 63, things start to happen again.

Spoiler

MC finally started to give me the sense of achievement, thanks author for finally giving it some importance.

[collapse]

so, about the feelings for each other

Spoiler

I really have no problems with their relationship. While to some it sound some bells, they are not really related by blood and ML was also a child when he became responsible for MC.

When ML realized his feelings, he first went on denial. Then, aftef accepting his own feelings, he did some moves to increase their intimacy. That lead to MC realizing his own feelings fot Ml. Both felt, at some point, guilty for their feelings and also fearful of what the other would think.

Wonderful novel. I quite liked this one. Kudos to the translators, very well done. To the author, thank you for this novel. To prospect readers, if you like novels with not too much intrigue, a little slowburn, not to angsty or complicated then this novel is for you!

This is a well-put-together, slow-burn novel. It has a well-thought-out plot where the MC and ML grow to love each other slowly. They’re both strong main leads that depend on each other and also act independently of each other. They compliment each other well.
