Simple, but solid story so far. Doesn't explain a lot of things in detail, but at the same time the story keeps moving. MC is the crown prince by virtue of being the first-born, but no one is on his side because he's sickly. He isn't "deceived" by a god into regressing... more like despite bluntly refusing the offer to regress the god is like "too bad I'm doing it anyway" and sends MC back in time whether he likes it or not. He's also originally transmigrated from our world.... more>> It doesn't appear that the fantasy world he lives in now was originally a novel or game or anything, just a different universe; it's because he's regressed that he has knowledge of things.

As of the first 14 chapters, there aren't many named characters and we don't see a lot about the MC's relationships with other people aside from his aide. He's already made progress on his "quest" to cure his ailing body and every chapter something happens, and there isn't a lot of useless filler. A lot of telling, not showing, and since it's still in the introductory/world-building stage we don't have many exciting events going on. There's a lot of potential for this story, but we'll have to wait and see. Giving it a 4/5 out of generosity and hope.

The translation is noticeably questionable, but not bad all things considered. Seems like edited MTL or a translation heavily assisted by MTL, but it makes since and is more readable than other MTL'd stories that are originally in Korean. <<less

It was a really good start, one where I loved the fact that MC goes on a rampant in getting rid of corruption. Might not be realistic but hey, its entertaining. One thing I want to say about this novel is that the MC's 'terminal' illness gets glossed over later on, after making just a SMALL progress of recovering himself.

It's like everyone forgot he was ill to begin with, which really bothered me a lot. MC literally died from his illness, and he still has it, why has even his... more>> closest aides forgotten he is STILL ill? Sure he made some progress in recovery, but he-and I cannot stress enough-hasn't fully recovered. Haven't fully read the novel, so there might be a reason behind his illness (a potential curse?) or it does get brought up later on, but I just disliked the fact that MC was going around in various places solving the empire's problems nonstop without feeling any fatigue or anything.

Spoiler

And when I knew this is a novel where pretty much MC won't be getting his YOLO life he wanted until the end of the novel (or maybe never), it honestly made me feel sad. Sad because in MC's past life, despite doing everything for the empire while his illness hindered him, the empire viewed him as a tyrant and considered him bad luck for causing so many war outbreaks, despite it being the fault of the empire's longstanding corruption where MC-having ascended to king, is forced to clean up. MC in his last moments on his deathbed literally raged on why the citizens of his own empire despised him, why he had to go through all of it, why he had to take the blame for the war outbreaks. And all those emotions disappeared after he regressed, which in my opinion should have been explore a bit more.

[collapse]

All in all, I have a lot of mixed feelings about the novel. MC was honestly an interesting character, but I wish his past life was explored more. His past life felt more like an alibi as to why MC is so smart and knows many things. <<less
