Let's get it out of the way that I am partial to gong MCs and appreciate the #GongRepresentation here XD Aside from that, this is quick wear so at the point of my reading each arc ranges around 12-15 chapters with each chapter being around 1500 words so within each arc it's definitely hard to flesh out the world and characters. One huge con that seems to be a reoccurring thing is the timeskips that happen in several arcs which is used to fast forward to a point where both... more>> MC and ML are at an acceptable age to do the papapa within the short number of chapters XD This can be a bit jarring and I'd rather have things fleshed out : (The short chapters mostly limit the stories to really just the MC Lu Shenxing and ML's development with a bit of optional face slapping to cannon fodder characters. Also, though I mentioned face slapping, I do like that it doesn't fall into the typical face slapping with the MC being V efficient in disposing of enemies lol. Especially in the first arc you see how ruthless he can be to the point that it can be considered cruel though the other person "deserved it". Arcs also don't necessarily have a happy ending and can be on the bitter sweet side with the system in this story managing to be kind of an a**hole. Def not one of those lovable/helpful systems. Only good thing about the system so far is that it

provides super lube? Which is V important for the historical and cultivation arcs I guess lol

[collapse]

One thing that does become apparent by the second and third arc though is that

Spoiler

The ML in each arc remains the same but just in a diff body and arc but doesn't retain any of the memories of past "lives"

[collapse]
which does help add to the development between the MC and ML's relationship especially since the MC is more on the detached "cold" side of character archetypes.

For the arcs:

Spoiler

Ch1-16: historical arc where Xin Liang in this "novel" was blinded by his brother at a young age and given a deadly s*x drug by the novel's ML Prince Jing only to have him abandon Xin Liang for his white lotus younger brother. Lu Shenxing is a general and Xin Liang is his military advisor where LS has to change XL's fate. This arc really showcased how ruthless LS was in disposing Prince Jing giving him the drug he used on XL in the OG plot. Out of the 3 arcs so far this one is my fav, with LS seeming to grow some true feelings for XL and choosing to stay in this world until XL's death while taking care of him all those years even though he finished his mission.

Ch17-27: cultivation arc where Shen Cheng, was adopted by the Emperor. However the Emperor adopted him only to use him as the Shen family are the only ppl who can use a specific cultivation technique and had killed the rest of the Shen clan. LS's mission is to change his fate but since he chose to stay for an extra 30 years in the first arc, all the pivotal tragic moments in Shen Cheng's life have already passed with SC already being a heartless demonic sect leader. LS is brought into the sect to be a servant. At this point Shen Cheng has cultivated this volatile technique where any emotions will endanger his life. Sad ending in this one : (

Ch28-39: modern arc where the protag Luo Yang is a gold digger who's trying to make it big as an actor. LS is a seventh son and the rich older guy Luo Yang mooches off of. LS's OG character was infatuated with LY and would do anything for him though LY didn't care about him at all and was only using him for his money. In this arc the system mission is to change LS's character's own life and get rid of this leech. Instead the ML is his older brother's adopted son. Which yea, toeing the line. But as mentioned the ML's soul is the same throughout the arcs and LS recognizes him. So what's being with your bros adopted son when you've been soulmates through 3 lifetimes am I right? Lol

Ch40~ modern arc where LS is a rich young guy this time coming from a strict prim and proper family where because of his father's dying wish, he adopted 2 sons to atone for his father's past wrongdoings. The ML is one of those adopted sons which is really putting the foot over the line this time. I'm reserving some judgement since I've only read 1 chapter of this arc so far so we shall see~

[collapse]

So far, even though it's far from perfect I'm enjoying the ride. Even though each arc isn't that detailed and lacks in world building it's intriguing enough to have me waiting for each ch release as well as seeing how the MC and ML of each arc drift together. <<less

This is Similar to cannon fodder counter attack novels. BUT!! The target is the ML (shou, can be a cannon fodder or protagonist) while the cannon fodder who saves the ML is the MC (gong). It's satisfying for me to see how the MC saves the ML, while knowing the the tragic life/ ending of the person and seeing it happen again.

Downside: since this is a fast wear, the story (love/plot) development is really quick, and I'm used to slow romance. I honestly want some characters to die tragically not... more>> quickly. Also, there are flaws... Will probably drop or will continue when I finish those more interesting novels

Good points: unlike the world hopping where the side characters did not notice any change to host, in here, the close persons/relatives see the changes of original host (ARc1). Not all are told, the author made the readers to infer from the clues on the arcs

Opinions on arcs

Spoiler

Arc1: the world protagonist should die tragically!! He not only drugged and r*ped the ML, that drug makes the ML's body unable to live without s**en of the rapist. The book novel said that ML loved the world protagonist but he did not. The ML endured it til he could kill his eldest brother and chose to die.

Arc2: the ML is the cultivator protagonist who is abused by author. I thought that this time the ML is the gong since the MC is very young

I only finished the first arc, but it was a real struggle to pull through.

From what I can tell from the first arc, the MC is the gong/top and is a tough/manly-type of character. The problem starts here. As a tough/manly-type of character, the author made the MC straight, then the MC becomes bent after meeting the ML (shou/bottom). There is very little emotional turmoil/deepening of relationships between the MC and ML. The whole process went like: straight -> interact with ML -> falls in love -> no development?

There are... more>> a lot of non-sensical scenes in the first arc, which made me decide to temporarily drop this novel.

Spoiler

In the first arc, the MC is a military general and the ML is a blind military advisor. In the original storyline, the ML would be used by the Third Prince and be poisoned with a drug that requires the poisoner's s**en to survive (in this case the Third Prince). The MC comes to the rescue by poisoning the Third Prince with his own drug, so now the Third Prince requires the MC's s**en to survive. This scenario is super strange, but I can still understand it. The non-sensical part comes after this.

When the Third Prince tortures the ML, the ML is healed super fast (in the span of one chapter), and then the MC proceeds to sleep with the ML? Afterwards, there is a scene of the ML going grocery shopping to cook for the MC? The MC is a military general, so why does the ML need to buy groceries and cook? Are there no household servants? And in the end when the MC kills the Third Prince in a secluded forest, why is the Third Prince alone with no bodyguards? I am full of confusion with all these nonsensical plot holes everywhere.

The MC also helps the ML to get revenge on all the characters that had bullied the ML in the past by either killing them or ruining their family. All this happened in a couple sentences with no more explanation? And no one suspects all these deaths and misfortunes? The MC and ML are magically cleared of suspicion.

[collapse]

Overall:

The plot armor gleamed from the first arc is too thick. The plot holes are too large. May be the later arcs will be better, but for now, I will temporarily drop this novel. <<less

Just throw away your morals while reading this novel. It's not needed here.

Replying to a certain reviewer (I read the review guidelines) on their review of the first arc:

Spoiler

After the ML was tortured by the third prince, it was only after more than a year before he healed and had their first time together. If you had paid attention while reading the chapters, you will find that the ML was tortured on August 15, stated in chapter 14. Then it was January in the next chapter and then September in the chapter after that, which was then when they first had s*x.

Your question of why the ML personally went grocery shopping to cook for MC was because he wanted to do those things by himself due to the love he had for the MC. Expressing his love through buying and cooking food for the MC. I mean, if he hadn't done it himself and just ordered a few servants to do it, it wouldn't exactly show his sincerity towards the MC, right?

And to your question of why the third prince was alone when he met up with the MC in a secluded forest, it was because of pride. Would you like it if your subordinates found out you needed another man's s**en to live? I think not, right? The third prince was also certain that he was able to threaten the MC with his martial prowess since when he first did so, the MC wasn't able to defend himself, making the third prince believe that he was stronger than the MC. It might also have something to do with him being a prince, so he was a little conceited and believed so, forgetting that the MC's identity was a general.

[collapse]

In my opinion, the whole entire novel was a big giant mess. In each and every arc, there would at least be something wrong with the ML, either physically or mentally, there's no in-between. There'll be times when you hate the MC and there'll be times when you feel that with the ML, it's only at the sixth arc where everything calmed down and the author stopped being so crazy and bringing up topics/writing in scenes that will make readers uncomfortable.

There were times when I genuinely liked reading the novel and there were times when I needed to take a breather before rereading from where I last left off. It was more of because I had my morals with me while reading the novel so... yeah. MC is the top throughout the novel.

Arc 1:

Warning:
Spoiler

Mentions of r*pe and chopsticks f*cking

[collapse]

Spoiler

General (MC) x Military advisor (ML), ancient? world

In this arc, the ML is blind.

As mentioned by other reviewers, the antagonist in this arc, the third prince, was f*cked by chopsticks. He kinda deserved it though, he not only r*ped the ML in the original timeline but also used the dude as a stand-in for his (ML) brother. And no, when the ML was tortured by the prince, he was not r*ped in the process.

[collapse]

This arc was so calm and peaceful compared to the future arcs, so much so that I was questioning other reviewers sanity for disliking this novel.

Arc 2:

Warning:
Spoiler

Mentions of su*cide

[collapse]

Spoiler

Servant x Master, cultivation world

ML is suicidal in this arc.

MC is a beggar adopted into ML's household as a servant, obtaining ML's surname.

Due to MC being malnourished, he looked younger than he actually was, which was 16.

I really disliked the way MC was so task-focused in this arc. Even when the ML was dying painfully right beside him, he was still wondering about why the task wasn't still completed after so long and panicking on what he had to do so that the taskbar was filled. It was so annoying and frustrating. While the ML was dying because of the MC and holding onto living, all I read about was MC trying to figure out how to complete his task. Seriously, wth.

But the ML was also kinda psycho in this arc, to the point where you can't really like him. He was very possessive and self-destructive. At the end of the arc, on his last breath, the ML killed the MC, which was also apparently the last wish the ML had, leading to the completion of the MC's task.

Spoiler

Father x Son (adopted), modern world

ML has insomnia.

The ML had a twin brother so the MC had to figure out which twin was the ML.

The arc started when the ML was 15.

The uncomfortable thing about this arc was not only the ML being so young, but also the MC's way of trying to discern which twin was his lover, which was either checking whether they reacted to him touching their ankle since the ML had sensitive ankles or the feel of their backdoor.

The one time MC tried to figure out his lover's identity, he recognised the wrong twin and followed the twin that wasn't the ML in the shower, using the excuse that he was trying to help him bathe. He first touched the twin's ankle, but there was no reaction. To double-check, he brushed the backdoor, trying to see whether the feel was the same. It wasn't. Even if it was the ML, it was still wrong, but it was my fault that I went through with the arc even after being warned.

Oh yeah, and about the grooming part... well I don't have to elaborate about that do I?

Arc 5:

Senior x Junior, cultivation world

ML is just full out crazy in this one.

At first, I thought this arc was just like any normal QT cultivation arc. There were some rivals, some side characters and love was in the air for the main characters. Nothing too crazy so far. Oh boy was I wrong. I had thoroughly underestimated the author.

This arc was a whole f*cking rollercoaster ride. It was fine at the start, then it became not so fine. In the middle of our couple's honeymoon period, our MC was ejected out of the world because of a system error. He was transmigrated into a parallel world of his original world where he had to complete the task in that world of making the scum lover of the body he occupied regret.

Where was the selfcest you ask? Well, here it is. In that world, the MC met the parallel world him and ended up having the hots for the him there. WTF am I right? Dude not only got hard for himself, kissed the him in that world, but also agreed to the fact (sorta) that he could f*ck himself. In the literal sense of course.

I-it was all so weird. Like a fever dream of some sort.

Then when he returned to the world of arc 5, the sweet and cute ML turned into one of the worst ML out of all of the arcs. The ML in arc 2 was nothing compared to this arc's ML.

Arc 6:

Spoiler

Teacher x Student, modern world

ML is deaf in one ear.

Surprisingly normal. I thought it was the calm before a storm in the first half of the arc like in the previous arc, but surprisingly the author stopped throwing curveballs at us and started giving us what we were wishing for, a normal and wholesome arc. I literally sighed in relief after reading finish this arc.

The plot twist of the century! Turns out, the ML was actually part of the MC's consciousness which had split from him when he died and had become an independent existence ever since...

Plot holes:

    1. The time limit in each world. It was stated in the first world that the time limit is the amount of time it takes for the MC to finish his tasks. Choosing to stay in a task world over the time limit will result in a punishment of the amount of time you stayed, but it was never really mentioned again after the second world
    1. It was mentioned that the MC was straight in the first arc, but when he lost his memories of the previous worlds in the third arc, it didn't seem like that was the case.

As had been said, there will be times when you love the novel and there will be times when you hate it, give it a try if you want to and don't if you don't want to. It's a nice read to past time, that's all I can say. And stop complaining about this novel being 'too fast paced', it's a QT novel, what did you expect? Anyway, happy reading I guess. <<less

You simply can't enjoy the story.

Too much jumping around, no relation or transition between the scenes. How is this even possible to pull off? Even if you deliberately tried to neglect the transitions, as a person who narrates a story, it's nearly impossible. It's just like a film, where it's acceptable to jump from one scene to another but someone directly decided to write the scenes down neglecting the difference between a film and a novel.

With this one I'm not sure what to make of it yet.

All I know is that the text is all over the place. One minute the MC is doing something and the next paragraph he's waking up from sleep or it's next morning. There's just gaps everywhere.

Sometimes I would just be lost as to how we got to a certain place (not sure if that's just me zoning out while reading. Anyways I'm too lazy to re-read it)

I'm not sure if the gap missing is lost in translation or... more>> the original text just had those holes. Anyways my rating might change if things improve.

There aren't a lot of seme protagonist stories on NU, so this one is refreshing.

Like others have mentioned, this is your usual BL QT fare, but the relationship between MC and ML is a bit more unique. The two feel a lot more like equals, compatriots, people who fell in love by chance, versus other QT stories where the ML usually exists just to make the MC feel loved, cherished, spoiled, etc.

Of course, the other type of QT is fine and fluffy to read, but I did appreciate the change... more>> of pace in this one.

Additionally, the author never really takes the MC's status and makes it a big deal. In other stories, a wealthy MC will constantly be the target of jealousy and there will be lots of background characters who turn up to randomly drool after his wealth or make him look good.

In this story, the background characters feel more like people, and the people who end up chasing either one (MC or ML) don't feel like they exist only to make the MC/ML look good. Anyway, the setup is a bit different here. It's not for everyone; people tend to read QT because they want the MC/ML to dominate the world and be subjected to gazes of worship and appreciation, but once again, I liked the change.

Twist at the end was pretty hilarious. Translation wasn't bad; the earlier chapters were very difficult to read and jumped around a bit, but got a lot better. <<less

Felt like a very convoluted fever dream that goes into deep dark places. The author isn't afraid of using taboos and there would be arcs where the plot and the MC and ML themselves do questionable things. And there would be arcs that are surprisingly normal and a bit fluffy. I love how the relationship between the MC and ML that was portrayed throughout the series was surprisingly realistic. Love would be lost when the ML starts to show alarming yandere traits. And in the arcs where they do get... more>> a "happy ever after", it's portrayed that they need patience and whatnot to keep the relationship running. None of those blind devotion that you'll see in the typical romance genre. Five stars as it kept me reading through the end as this is weirdly addicting trying to figure what would happen next as sh*t gets real. And if you're looking for a little self-love

I don't know what is going on in this novel anymore, I mean, I think there is no clear plan for this novel at all.

At first I complimented MC's character. Because I can see how see the character development. But as goes on, (I think from arc 4 or 5?) his temper got worst. I want to read until the end if there is a reason for that. But from the random show up of the system, I feel that we're just running around endlessly. I hate that MC's... more>> thought began to round onky on how to find ML. The cultivation arc isn't well plotted (the ML randomly fell in love with the MC) . The daddy-son arc too. What I liked about this novel is the patience of MC to ML and their love developing over time. I think that's it? And when he went to the parallel world of the world where he came from. He slept with himself? Is ML himself? Or MC just frogotten ML? Because when he got hard on himself never did I read a mention of ML in his monologue. This novel is a nice read. There are some arc that has interesting elements and the romantic development between the MC and ML is quite sweet. One of the plus point of this novel is that the ending of some arc has definite closure even though when approaching the end, this concept was abandoned. I have to admit that I didn't like the first worlds where MC and ML meet. The ML seemed too controlling / neurotic with the MC (he was really freaked out by the MC, he was like "Run MC!"

I stopped this novel twice due to this situation. But I said "hey, let's try it, maybe the situation between this couple will improve." Glad I continued, the ending left me with a sweet taste in my mouth.

What does this novel want to be? I wonder for the umpteenth time.

It has too many things it wants to achieve and I find it really hard to clearly say, this is what this novel wants to say... There's a message repeated for sure, that people die and life goes on, in the end you should just follow your desires no matter how scandalous it is. If you read this novel casually, or it checks your kin/ks, maybe it will be high 4.

The writing is too all over the place... more>> for me, and the way MC conducts himself..... I'm not a fan. He has no integrity or decency, he can dr/ug, ki/ll, and vio/late people easily. It's hard to read. If it was a pure s/mut, pure philosophical, or pure mary-sue novel, maybe it would've been more enjoyable.

MC's personality is too flexible for me, ML is too... pliant. System is too random. Though the author did manage to get around the censorship at some places so this novel is more spicy than most CN novels translated out there. Thanks for sticking through with it, translator! <<less
