Tang Yi was 17 years old when she secretly loved Jiang Qiaosheng, and she married him when she was 25.

In the 10th year of loving Jiang Qiaosheng, Tang Yi proposed a divorce to him.

On the night she decided to get divorced, Tang Yi accidentally came across a popular topic.

“Why do all the stories of unrequited love that come true only end at the point of marriage?”

Tang Yi remained silent for a long time, and wrote down her own answer.

–Because the trivialities of life and the suspicions in the relationship will erode your love for him.

“Loving you is like a moth rushing towards the flame, exhausting all of me.”

He settled down and married her out of convenience, just a second choice and was too late to start his love for her.

She loved him for so long that she was crushed on the reality of marriage and the unreciprocal feeling.

this relationship is destined to fail from the beginning.

There should be honesty, courage, and equality in terms of feeling and romantic history to work, but they had none so they fail.

Stories like these are just too real and close to reality.

While I read through the story, I kept questioning both the character's thoughts. I kept on thinking why they don't even try to start a conversation when they clearly wanted to stay together and had no one else in their hearts? Then I realised- this is how people are. The difference between each love story truly lies in the braveness and the actions of the ones involved.

They could have had it all- it's just that they didn't fight hard enough.... more>> One a coward in love and the other coming to realise he was in love when he lost it all <<less

It's beautiful. I cried.

Spoiler

What hurt the most for me was when she asked him to buy her a drink. After he came back and brought her milk, which she was allergic to, her eyes trembled. That was her sign and that was when she finally let go.

Both had something to blame for their broken marriage. Everything the author said was true. She was not honest enough because she loved so deeply. While the guy was just starting to love her, and tried to accomodate her in a way that it's almost akin to just acquaintances.

I actually thought he would be secretly in love with her too. But of course, this novel was true to life. He never knew her feelings from the past. He never knew she was that player he and his team usually played with during his senior year. He just never really knew her at that time because FL hid really hard.

If the FL was that Wen Jing, we'd probably be rejoicing now that ML is getting a divorce. Sometimes, reading this kind of stories where the characters are probably just passing experiences gives you such profound realizations.

It's a short read. But it gives your heart a few squeezes of pain. I suggest you read it 🤣 it's painful but beautiful at the same time. Welp, that's life.

also, kudos to the translator! The translation was great! Thank you for doing this!

I can't say I was very satisfied with this novel. I like me some angst and misunderstandings, but this was not what I was expecting. Both MC and ML were terrible at communicating and terrible at expressing their feelings. I get that MC has loved him for years and she has a career, but if you love someone and suddenly got to marry them, even if you have a busy work life, wouldn't you still try to make it work or show your care even in small ways? I'm not... more>> saying she should quit her job, but there are surely ways to still express her love and care?? They lived like strangers and hardly had any interaction or communication, so I can't really buy their "love, " neither of them. None of them were honest with their feelings and past, which led them to where they are now. But even then when MC asked for a divorce, the said that their time had passed and that they should separate. It's called marriage counseling. They didn't even really try?? Stop being so dramatic. Yeah ML didn't know she was allergic to milk, but that's because they spent probably like a total of 20hours in each others company, also they are both terrible communicators. She forgot his birthday. If obsessively loved someone for years, I feel like you would remember his birthday. None of them cherished each other. Not a satisfying read at all. <<less

I liked FL so much, I couldn’t read. In my university years I was madly in love with someone, later I thought it wasn’t love just my stubbornness to let go. That’s the best ending. Thanks to author and translator

This was such a bittersweet read. As the saying goes, there’s no cure for regret so it’s always better to say what you mean whenever you can. Upon reflection I do feel that this is the best ending for Tang Yi. She already spent enough time on a wasted love. It’s time for her to meet the one whose feelings and timing match up to hers. She deserves to be someone’s first choice.

I'm still sobbing even after an hour. Yes you can argue It's because of miscommunication but hey, this does happen.

Its realistic and god I'm a sucker for these type of stories. This is a good she fell too early and he fell too late.

If Butterfly and Whale was a more romantic idealistic take on tragedy (which I still like btw) then this novel is a more irl grounded take of BE.

really unfortunate but sometimes you meet someone at the wrong place and time.

i wasn’t expecting much for a 10ch BE tragedy (?) novel but it managed to squeeze a tear out of me.
