When they first met in the apricot blossom forest, she was still a little Princess who was inexperienced in the world, and he was the late Emperor’s favorite Prince. He had made great achievements in defeating the enemy invaders across the borders, but he was shunned by the new Emperor and demoted. At the time he had no intention of competing for the world but as for her, because of her country and family’s enmity, she used her gentleness as a trap and her lingering love as a sharp blade to cruelly push him onto the road of treason and betraying his nation.

When they met again three years later, he was already a dominant warlord, holding a long sword in his hand to conquer the world. And she became a down-and-out zither player with nothing to her name. In the chaotic fight for imperial power and hegemony, amidst the golden war and iron horses, the long journey and human lives become like grass, love and hate like floating clouds.

A farewell to love that cannot be obtained, a separation of love and death, she had caused him to lose everything and finally found a way to repay him in the most decisive way. Until the day he ruled the world but was separated from her by a vast chasm. In this life, love and hate are two sides of the same coin, and the only thing she left was a piece of plain paper upon which, written with deep meaning; Your Highness, I wish you a lifetime filled with prosperity.

Pisses me off lmao. I won't rate this cos I'd probably drag the stars way down. It seems like everyone else enjoyed the ride and I guess you'd get what you signed up for if you came for the summary so I'll just comment.
Edit: I accidentally cl**ked one star and dragged it down so I edited and gave it 4 instead. Can't bring myself to touch the 5 star button just to keep the ratings as I saw them.

ML was a jerk to MC at first and for good reason, but I just can't get over his treatment of the... other one.

Spoiler

Yeah yeah... ML and MC really loved each other but had to part because of the cruelty of fate and circumstance blahblahblah but to ME it just feels like excessive melodrama for the sake of melodrama (Wow!! Shocker!! Drama in the drama genre). The MC's unyielding attempts to self-depreciate and punish herself for what she did to ML seemed really s*upid and honestly pointless cos if you think about it, everyone would be happier if her dumb ass just let the past go and be with him. It would've been better if she never loved him at all cos then her desperate attempts to keep him from loving her would seem less brain-dead and more well-intentioned.

The ML also pissed me off cos of his actions towards his favorite concubine, Lady Bo. Honestly, Lady Bo was the most pitiful in all of this. There's literally nothing wrong with her. She was faithful, loved him, and had the sense to apologize to the MC when she realized her jealous actions were uncalled for. When he liked her, he would think of her tenderly and bring her everywhere with him, including battles. Her ignorance would be fondly thought of as charming and befitting of a "true woman". When he liked someone else, the past affection and doting will perish into smoke. He would break his promise to never leave her behind and then forget about her completely during a crisis. He became angry when he saw that it was her who survived and returned to him despite being delirious with joy mere moments prior—all because he thought he saw someone else.

I hate that the author had to use someone else (props for not demonizing her though. Some authors act as if making a love rival b*tchy will justify her man changing his heart and abandoning her) as a foil to highlight how much he loved the MC and how little his other beloveds meant in comparison. It's degrading and disgusting. I'm very disappointed that this is a happy ending. It would've been better to go down the Eastern Palace route and kill MC off given this premise.
