To his surprise, time rewound to six years ago, right when his childhood friend introduced a girl he didn’t even like as his girlfriend.

Enjoying the comfortable days in Japan, far better than the other world, Natsuki is suddenly confronted by confessions from his brainwashed and foul-mouthed step-sister, his childhood friend, and the neighborhood lady, all saying, “Actually, I’ve always liked you.” However, he dismisses them saying, “I’m not interested in any of you.”

During this time, the spiritually powerful Minazuki family noticed Natsuki’s abilities and began to surveil him, leading him to discover Earth’s fantastical elements and become deeply involved.

Beloved by trouble and embroiled in battles, he encounters yokai, monsters, demons, deities, and even aliens. Natsuki’s everyday life becomes increasingly chaotic.

It’s a story about Natsuki Yura, who fought as a hero in another world, returns to Earth to enjoy his youth, wielding the power of a hero and meeting charming heroines.

As someone who have go and read the raw. So I will make a brief review of this story

Let me tell you first. This novel is 80% comedy with 20% seriousness so if it's not your cup of tea then you might not like it.

The story is simple. The fight scene is nothing special too and there's some moment that might make people feel cringe.

... more>> But what made me stick to the story is the characters and the jokes.

I like most of the characters in here. They are wacky as hell and there's a few people with common sense in the story but I like them for that. Well, it's comedy after all lol. Genuinely the joke in this story might not be for everyone but for me. Many jokes made me laugh so hard.

The author also a wacky guy himself too. He likes to make afterword and drop some huge lore or funny skit in there. Some skit is worth another novel itself too if you ask me lol. So make sure to keep your eyes on afterword. <<less

What a disappointment... and I'm talking about the ratings. The reason I rated this high is because it has a "not unlikable MC" + interesting settings, and fun developments.

"Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too" This is the main part you should focus in title. The story is like a daily life in a certain city in Earth that turned out full of fantasy creatures hiding within humans. Yup, it might not be new, but the various development that appear is just interesting and fun to read.

Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way - This one is the misleading part. You might think that the story revolves around the MC gaining powers and instantly gaining harem due to the girls who originally like him, but nope. One guy... more>> in the reviews dislike how the MC didn't forgive her sister even after knowing the she got charmed, but

Spoiler

This didn't invalidate that the sister destroyed their family, and spouts a lot of insult to both MC, mother, and even her own father. Further the story, you'll realize that despite those girls originally liking the MC, the MC has no interest at them, and... their personality are all troublesome. Like one of the childhood friend who is in relationship with whole basketball club despite being charm.

The guy's "best friend?" charm is not absolute. You can think of it as if redirecting their love to him, but it can't change their personality and doesn't work at everyone. So all the shits they did are part of them.

[collapse]

The whole story won't revolve around this setting, and it's just the MC persistently avoiding them until they got out of line and got dealt easily. With how chaotic his life because of fantasy encounters in Earth, he barely have time for the idiots.

The MC (Natsuki)

This guy just want to live in peace, because his fake best friend (Yuto) obsession to see him despair. Meaning, Yuto never really succeeded, although he managed to bring lot of troubles to Natsuki's life.

Even after returning to Earth after 6 years, someone said that he didn't mature and dislike his self important attitude (which is not really true). His self important attitude? is because his life in Earth is already full of troubles, then the world he got transported is a shitty world full of human scum, he's just freaking fed up of trouble brought to him by annoying people. When he came back, of course he will be excited like a kid, after all the other world is full of shit, in both people and lifestyle.

The MC dislike the other world so much that he didn't even eat anything there and only able to acquire an ability to use mana as life force instead. Furthermore despite finishing his whole adventure in that, he didn't even manage to get the full cooperation of his holy sword. My point here is he became strong in short time that it looks like he speedran the whole isekai just to return.

The MC won't hesitate to kill anyone even human if turn out they are threat. Yup there will be deaths despite it being in Earth. But the MC also will help others in trouble. If he encounter trouble related to him, he won't be like "not my business and then went away" he will tackle them and then be done with it.

He's definitely not the arrogant type who just because he gain power, he started collecting harem. After reading further in raw, there are only two girls who's interested to him and might stay like that. I like the fact that the MC is sociable enough, and how there are male characters in the story he can call bro. This is a big plus to me because I won't think that the author just want to self insert himself being surrounded by girls.

Spoiler

Regarding romance, the MC likes both the Angel and the female police equally. But, he didn't know if it's love or not. Even though he mentally grew in the other world, it seems he killed his heart and mechanically killing enemies for a long time. The only time time he felt emotional is when he realized he could return to Earth. Due to this, as long as he's surrounded by his family in Earth, he's satisfied enough.

[collapse]

Update: Because of the MC's experience in the otherworld of bulldozing things to quickly return home, whenever there's an enemy, he's quick to resort to violence, that even other characters and enemies are troubled. This part of him can be annoying for some. But at least, he just respond with this whenever he encountered an enemy.

The Setting

If you read the synopsis, it tells how the MC will encounter various fantasy species making his life chaotic despite wanting to live. This brought a lot of funny interaction albeit chaotic life to the whole story. Within a week after returning to Earth, tons of things happened.

Spoiler

Like knowing the psychics exist, saving an alien (it's funny how they recreate ET here lol), and even killing a guardian god and getting a powerful family in debt with him.

[collapse]

And you might misunderstand again thinking that it will be about the fantasy species in Earth getting ahead of themselves then getting kicked in the bu*t by MC. But this is not entirely true. There are a lot of creatures and humans that became friend of MC more than enemy. You can think the story as a fantasy slice of life in Earth. There are troubles but not entirely because there's a lot of enemies, but more than, big figures becoming interested on the MC or getting him caught with their own life.

Oh, and the big figures like Satan, and Gods are easygoing people which made the story funny. Because of these, there's a lot of gags and comedic moment.

This is an enjoyable read for me that I kept reading in raw. If you're still into fantasy stuffs that can make you relax and even laugh then this is definitely a good story. The 3.1 rating is just too much, that I might not even try this. Thank you reviewer who said the story is funny. <<less

We've already had our fair share of isekai and "returned from other world" stories, but this one stands out to me for some reason.

Perhaps that would be that the main character is not some overly cringy edgelord pretending to be cold/ mature but some kid who just got home after being thrown in a world and forced to fight for his life. Personally that makes him more likeable, in my opinion.

Another great thing is the translation. You could tell that they put effort in proofreading and checking instead of haphazardly... more>> copy-pasting them from translation bots.

With the pacing of the chapters and translation quality, it's easy to binge read, especially if the story is your cup of tea. <<less

Great translation, mediocre/ average story, horrible MC.

Spoiler

For me what makes or breaks a series are these three qualities. If one of these things goes too low, I'll easily drop it.

The translator is known for adequate translations and seems to actually proofread their work, unlike others who use machine translations and post them as is and expects to get donations for it.

The story is a generic "hero returns" stories that's been done before, which is fine. The world building was also fine. Though kind of bland and very "Japan centric" lore wise, which is also fine. However this just makes the story mediocre/ average at best.

What killed my interest in the story was the main characters personality, behavior and thought process. Now I don't know why the author bothered to put down that the character spent 6 years in another world but kept his personality at the level of a middle schooler (which I believe is 15 years old). Which I can understand is the typical age for Shonen protagonists.

However shouldn't he have matured at least somewhat during the 6 years he spent in the other world? Not saying 21 year Olds are that much more mature but c'mon. His thought process isn't even at the level of a 15 year old. At points he acts like a 10 or even 7 year old. Especially with how he jumps to conclusions and acts with a self important attitude.

Maybe he gets better but I'm not sticking around to find out. Maybe they'll rework his character to not be so unbearable if this get adapted to a manga.

The plot is insanely wacky, there's aliens and angels and stuff, but the alien is a total homie. MC also casually bisects tsundere b*tches (yes, plural, both get healed and survive so far) in self defense who are s*upid enough to attack him due to arrogance or misunderstandings. Good for some laughs, but not for an actual serious plot. Best line so far is MC stating that he believes in gender equality before he begins beating the sh*t out of a female lead that attacked him.

I was initially interested in the combination of the isekai hero returned to earth setting with the losing heroines part and seeing how that went.

But as I went on, I started to really dislike the MC. Like other reviewers have mentioned, his mentality is very childish even more than a typical middle school and especially for someone whose mental age should actually be 21. At first, when the story started and it was mostly comedy, it didn't really stick out much or was irritating but as the story got much... more>> more serious, it really made me dislike the MC. I completely gave up on the MC after reading v1c57 when
Spoiler

he decided to cold-bloodedly killed Noa. To this point, it didn't seem the MC was one to kill so brutally so offhandedly so it seemed to be an arbitrary kill just to show of how "brutal and savage" the MC is in an edgelord way. It's especially incongruent given how he just beat up the psychic before who was going to do something absolutely more unforgiveable by dissecting Nancy. I guess maybe the demons on earth are intended to be irredeemably evil but there wasn't enough about Noa to really show if that was the case and the story mentioned earlier that at least some Demons in the other world weren't bad so there seemed a possibility that could be the case with the demons on earth too. It seemed a waste of a character that could show the earth demon perspective. Especially the description of Noa, who is otherwise still a middle school girl begging for her life as she's being killed is absolutely disgusting. I really hate how JP wn/ln writers are obsessed with making MC's either absolutely pathetic and vacillating weaklings or absolute sociopaths. They can't seem to strike a good balance between an MC that can be decisive and make hard decisions but still with empathy and a strong moral core.

[collapse]

I guess it's a reflection how WN/LN's are mainly written for and meant to appeal to a young, immature audience so it shouldn't be surprising that writers tend to write such immature characters as well to appeal to an immature audience's desire for cheap gratification of their power and revenge fantasies.

It wouldn't be that bad if the story treated his immaturity as that and as something the character should grow from but since it has no interested in actual character development. And that's the other problem with this novel. Characters are completely static and have no actual character development. That wouldn't normally be a problem with comedies and slice of life but it doesn't work if the characters are unlikable as is.

And the lack of character development ties in to how the losing heroines are treated in the story. From the spoilers posted in other comments, there seems to be absolute no development there and it seems to be a waste of that part of the premise and just a source of cheap Zama. I honestly dislike these kind of settings where writers seem obsessed with not having any kind of character development or reconciliation, just want the cheap feeling of Zama and unforgiveness.

Honestly, the story is a disappointment and the dislike of the characters and how they're handled basically makes me uninterested in any other part of the story. If the story wanted to be mainly a slice-of-life comedy about an isekai hero returning to Earth, it should've focused solely on that and left out the other elements if it wasn't going to actually go anywhere with it. <<less

I've read so far all the other reviews and none of them mentioned this, so I'll do it myself. This novel reads like those gag mangas, especially so the time the MC met an alien. Stuff and lore is thrown around, like Satan visits MCs house for a snack and stuff...

The other reviews are true, the protagonist acts like a kid, this isn't a bad thing, but some may dislike it.

Early review. Zetro translation quality still great as always.

Story is quite absurd but still not a bad novel, I rarely found it boring maybe because it's match my (tr*sh) taste.

Will update the score when the novel are far enough.

Solid 4/5 in my opinion, IF you are okay with wacky hijinks novels with many subplots.

I honestly don't think there are enough chapters yet to know if the Author can continue to weave the story well. Thus far the plots and/or subplots include:

Spoiler

Fake best friend (only others and himself thinks he is MC's best friend) with charm / lust going on. Also fake best friend's brother is the MC's real best bro.

Spirit sword Xianxia-esque house with a dangerous secret (at least 1 heroine, but possibly up to 3).

Aliens (best non-human friend and his wife).

Angels (at least 1 heroine).

Police uncle/police cousin heroine interacting with all of the above.

The spiritual/psychic (xianxia-esque) people did not know about Aliens, probably don't know about angels. Angels didn't know about aliens. Unclear if aliens knew about angels/psychics.

It's an average to bad novel. The good things are the translation quality is good, the chapters are not super short or long, the otherworld seems kinda interesting.

Now the bad, the character is very dumb and smart?, some chapters just repeat the same thing as the last chapter with some progress, and some things are just ignored.

With this novel being focused on the main character his personality is very important; and that is why this novel gets low ratings.
Spoiler

So the MC returns from a world of magic to one he thinks without, yet when he goes into his backstory of the childhood friend and how everyone changes around him he doesn't think anything is weird. Even after realizing that powers exist in his world; he still doesn't care that his step sister explains that she suddenly doesn't care for the friend anymore like all those feeling for the friend just vanished like she never cared for him in the first place. Now he is valid in not wanting to forgive her because of her past actions, but not realizing that she was charmed is dumb especially later when he talks about dealing with charms before. The same kinda situation happens later when he finds out the friend had charm powers that basically made people more interested in him (they had to have some interest in him already, any interest not just the love kind) ; and (from the MCs own words) stacked the feelings for him with each physical contact with him. Yet the MC still thinks that the sister loves him and the charm powers just let her put her feelings out; this is after it explains that she went crazy when they talked about keeping her away from the friend because of her being bad.

[collapse]

The spoiler goes into more detail but basically the MC has negative character traits that make the story annoying. Also the synopsis has somethings out of order. The sister and neighbor caring for him isn't mentioned till later. He found out about the magic in the world before even knowing about that family. Didn't think I write this much but MC just annoys me this much.

Translation is pretty good. Any errors are “forgettable, ” as in I can’t really recall any.

But I dislike the bits that continue to use Japanese terms (onions, -san, -sama, etc.). I’ve mentioned this plenty and I’ve also known that this translator does this, so that’s all I’ll mention.

What I really don’t like are parts of the story telling. Twice there was mention of the MC (not) doing something in the other world. But that makes no sense, until explained later.

Spoiler

He says he spent six years without eating or drinking, but doesn’t explain how (self-devouring and then “mana-fed”) until after second time, a number of chapters after the first mention. And even that is wrong, since he did self-devour, literally biting and eating bits of himself and drinking his own blood.

[collapse]

Hinting in story telling is something that makes the reader expect it to be explained later, not “wtf, that doesn’t make sense” now.

The other issue is a “trope” now expected from Japanese writers... the inevitable inclusion of many paragraphs of “cooking.” I automatically start skipping at this point.

At least it’s limited to most of one chapter and not multiple chapters for one single dish or some s*upidity I’ve seen in other stories. <<less
