Minoru Kido, age 30, cause of death: traffic accident.
As a Japanese, I died without leaving any evidence of my life.

At the time of my death, I was thinking, “Next time, I want to live a long life and leave behind some proof of my life,” when I was reincarnated as an elf with a life span of 1,000 years!

That’s why I made a vow. I vowed that this time I would spend my whole life living in a way that would leave a mark on my life.

At the age of 20, I was able to use all of the healing magic that elves were originally equipped with at will.

By the age of 30, I had mastered all attribute magic, and by the age of 100, I had deciphered all the ancient magic formulas.

For the remaining 900 years of my life, all I have to do is run out of the Elven forest and become a warrior.

Just to let someone know that I’m still alive.

Writing a story about characters with extremely long lifespans is tricky. As seen here, the sense of time for the Elven race is warped beyond human standards. As a consequence, any characters from other races such as humans with considerably shorter lifespans leaves a gaping hole in opportunities to develop character and character interaction. To bypass this problem altogether, the first 15 chapters have very sparse character interaction and only focuses on the MCs training and deciphering of magic grimoires. The lack of a proper "training montage" is something that... more>> makes these inital chapters even drier.

With all that said, I would still give it a 4 star out of 5 because the series has potential. The author could extend encounters with characters and their significance to the story by stretching what I'd call the "elven year" for the sake of convenience. Or they could simply develop incidents over the course of decades to let the MC take full advantage of their long lifespan. But, again, that would be tricky without the use of jarring or even out of place timeskips. Looking forward to how this plays out. <<less

For the few chapters that this novel does have, it’s quite decent. Only complaints I’d have is the translation isn’t all that good and the lack of updates as this seems like another novel that’ll never see a proper end.

Sub-par writing. Questionable (?) translation.

I'm not sure whether it's the translation or the original writing itself, but the text feels lifeless, and although not to the point of being incoherent, it does feel hard to read at some points, especially the dialogue. At some point, reading feels more like a chore, rather than something I'd like to do myself.

Regarding the story, I expected something along the lines of a similar novel/manga "I Was Reincarnated and Became a High Elf, but I Got Tired of the Slow Life After 120 Years".... more>> Unfortunately, the quality of this one ended up being below expectations.

It's very fast-paced, with the chapters being somewhat episodic, rather than being connected in a continuous story. Mini-arcs consisting of a couple of chapters followed by a time skip of half a year or more. Adding to that, the chapters themselves are quite short, resulting in a bare-bones story that feels very rushed.

Due to the short chapters and time skips, a lot of things are thrown into the story but end up not being fleshed out. A lot of concepts are thrown around, (magic, innate factors, etc) that just don't get enough attention to warrant being there in the first place.

For a story so heavily centered around magic, the magic system itself is not even explained properly. A few ranks are haphazardly thrown in, without the reader even knowing the scale of magic and the differences between ranks, due to the MC being able to use almost all magic after his multiple training time skips in the first few chapters. Only a few spells are shown, all of which are 'high-rank', with incredibly jarring names that seem like a thoughtless combination of 'cool' sounding words thrown together to make a jumbled mess. <<less

Pretty annoying that it stops at 20. There is a lot to work with here but it seems to have been dropped by the translator. The story is very fun and does a great job of setting up the OP MC but then it just stops as his adventure starts.
