“I’m not the protagonist; I’m the best friend character who ended up creating his own harem (all losing heroines).”

I was an ordinary salaryman until one day, I found myself reincarnated into a popular harem dating sim game world.

My excitement about entering a game I loved was short-lived. I didn’t reincarnate as the main character Minato Minato but instead found myself as his best friend, a man named Charao Shibuya.

Charao is a friend character who supports the main character’s love life but never ends up with any of the heroines himself.

Though disappointed that I wouldn’t reach the “goal” with the heroines I loved, I enthusiastically supported the relationships between Minato and the heroines.

Eventually, Minato ended up with his childhood friend! In the game, this would be the moment for a happy kiss and the end… except this was real life.

The remaining members of Minato’s harem, broken-hearted by their loss, all became emotionally unstable.

Feeling sorry for them, I took on the role of providing mental care for all the heroines.

The result? All the losing heroines fell for me, leading to a chaotic love battle centered around me!

Unknowingly having entered my own harem route, what would become of my love life?

I... don't really know what to say.

The story began in what one would call 'a standard setting', but by the end, I guess I can say that it got out of control. Which in itself I found it quite amusing and enjoyable for me.

From the comments I saw on the translation site, I can say that there will be readers that will not find the heroines behaviour appropriate. And I am not talking about them beying yandere, but about the compulsion all the characters have been forcefully subjected to before... more>> the story began, even the protagonist.

Being subjected to an unknown power, for an unknown reason, without your consent, to behave differently from usual, even ending up harming the ones you love, and then end up beying released from it to deal with the aftermath by yourself, it's a terrifying experience. Beyond traumatising if I would say. That's why some readers don't understand this impact and take the heroines actions at face value.

There are two things I hate this story doesn't have and wish they were implemented:

1. As I mentioned before, it's about the heroines mental state. I wish the author would've depicted the impact it had on them and how our protagonist worked on them to stabilise them and bring them to normal level. Then how his actions made them fully dependent on him.

2. s*x scenes. Their depictions and all the smut. A big miss on this part. Would've loved to read them, but they are basically skipped.

Overall, it was a nice read to fill in time, but missed the chance to be something greater, something with more depth. I don't know if this was the author intention from the beginning or realised their inability to make this story fully blossom and gave up in the process, ending up by choosing a relatively safe road. <<less

Rating would be about a 3.5

My feelings so far are a missed opportunity. It starts off the MC who is the best friend character aids the protaginist. He helps him gets a single girl, but all the girls who dont end up with the protag end up sad and lonely and depressed so the MC helps them and they end up falling in love with the MC. Which is good but here in likes the problem we dont see any of this because this novel takes place after the protag... more>> gets the girl. Also there are forced reactions so the MC had to act a certain way so its feels yeah.

But it was an interesting concept so I enjoyed it until chapter 12 happen.
Spoiler

The MC gains the power of the protaginist.. yes thats a thing. Saved the girl who was about to get redo of the healer. Sleeps with the girl but doesnt remembers maybe due to game world stuff but wakes up naked around her. Gets shocked hes naked and thinks he sleeping so he like any 'normal person does' jumps out the window and dies... but because he now is the protag he can go back and redo an event... oh and now he has an ai that aids him...

It's good, but not my cup of tea, so personally I won't vote above 4. If you are interested, try to read past first 11 chapters, those are the prelude and at first it will be very confusing.

Spoiler

The twist in this story is that MC actually in a game setting with "unknown forces" able to control him like a game characters. So far (c20) it's still good, but my complain is that if this goes R-18 they should just go boldly R-18 instead playing it "off screen"

5/5 stars~!

The story got me hooked the moment that I thought it would be the usual trope where the MC and the FLs would come together that a kind of romance would form since the childhood friend heroine has gotten together with the "protagonist" character.

But, no. That wasn't the case.

This story goes deeper than that, in a sense, it's become interesting because of the various stuff included in the story (the various stuff hinting towards a certain mix of things). I won't delve into it too much, but the one... more>> thing I can say is, yes, what you read in the summary may as well be the icing on the cake, but if you try to read at least up 15 chapters, I guarantee you that the outcome of the story is one that you wouldn't expect!

Spoiler

The heroines:

It's interesting that, aside from the childhood heroine, as soon as one of the heroines got into a relationship with the supposed "protagonist" character. Their infatuation with that character soon disappears and their actual feelings reappear that they start questioning why did they even like that one guy except for the MC? It was a question that seemed to bring much thought into the heroines' mind that, of course, the harem tag comes in because apparently, the MC seemed to have been living long in that game world before the "protagonist" character came along that I think this may have caused a kind of side effect to the heroines that, before they were infatuated, they were genuinely in love with the MC.

It may be confusing, but as the story progresses, some bits and pieces from the dialogues of one or two heroines seem to hint at the fact that their disgust towards the infatuation they once held towards the "protagonist" character could be a possibility that the MC is the actual protagonist of the story.

The "protagonist":

The "protagonist" in this sense is shown to be a fool in the story, fully aware and presuming that he was a player in a game with a "save slot" that he treated the heroines lesser than a tool. His aim was to have a harem route. That's it. If you compare this character to the MC, he is much more genuine than this "protagonist" character because his situation seemed much more precarious because of the "compulsion" that seemed to trap him thus making him have a character that isn't very like him at all.

I even thought that maybe the MC and the "protagonist" character might have switched places, but that wasn't it at all because if you read the story, you'll get why I retracted this thought.
