Airen Parreira is a boy who sleeps to run away from reality.

Until one day, he dreamt of a swordsman… It was a dream about a talentless man who had been training by swinging his sword for decades.

Just got to the timeskip and it doesn't seem as severe as some people on here make it seem

Spoiler

MC's sorcerer ability is just lucid dreaming pretty much, same time flow as the outside world, but he can manipulate the dream world to make his training more convenient. His body seems to keep up with his dream-self as well, its basically Baki's imagination training. I like it, gives MC an interesting ability without making him super overpowered instantly, and without cheapening the achievements of other characters. He also "only" spent five years in the dream world as of chapter 54, and not 100+ years like the other review said. Still a pretty drastic change in pacing, makes it seem like 16 year old arc was just to set up MC, like the Childhood Saga in Baki

[collapse]

MC is really bland during the Krono school arc, he's literally a robot putting his body through impossible training, and ignores his supposed friends for months at a time just so he can fully immerse himself in copying the swordsman he sees in his dreams. HOWEVER, all these points actually get addressed, and are used to develop Airen. Even his very fast progress and deus ex machina dreams seem to be building up to a tolerable explanation, although that's just my head canon for now:

Spoiler

MC is probably seeing his own past life due to the imprint it left on his soul or something. The emotions that made him swing the sword in his past life must've been strong enough to manifest in his current life as well, so Airen's character motivation gets resolved by the reveal of who the dream swordsman is. His body's fast development might be affected by the mana he built up in his past life as well, since the wandering orc sorcerer pointed out that he has a lot of golden mana or whatever. Maybe my expectations are a result of being a fan of Kengan Ashura and The Main Heroines Are Trying To Kill Me, but I am a sucker for an MC whose purpose transcends his memories or lifetimes

[collapse]

If that's indeed the case, then this novel is pretty solid from a characters and story perspective. The fights are alright, there were no scenes so far which made me physically cringe, and even the mandatory cute animal companion ended up being surprisingly likeable. Would recommend. <<less

It´s been one hell of a novel to read, the one thing i´ve got to say is that you should definitely read it if you are passing for a bad moment in your life.

The novel has it´s fun segments, it´s sad moments, it´s pretty wholesome moments, it´s very confusing parts and also some pretty good character development.

The only bad thing I could find is that the start of the novel can be a little bit slow.

... more>> Imo you should definitely read it.

P.S: This is only my opinion about the whole story and what I liked of the novel. You can obviously differ from what I´ve said and have a totally diferent opinion about it. <<less

The right audience for this novel is gifted teenagers and/or teens in slumps, it's about how hard work and talent can make all the difference. It keeps repeating the advice to socialize but never take praises or insults to heart and single-mindedly put effort in your goals.
To find your own reasons and/or motivations for your goals instead of inheriting them from friends and family.
MC wastes a decade of his life doing nothing but sleeping and eating and is able overcome all his lazy behavior by not thinking of the past and training hard in the present.
These advices are applicable to young adults and adults too who have wasted decade or two or even three in various ways, the more the time is wasted the harder it's to find your own path but it’s possible to mend your bad habits and work towards goal as long as one doesn’t gloom in past mistakes but learn from even when there’s nothing to gain from it.

So-so.. It wasn't that bad but it wasn't really that good either. It's really quite bland and has quite a bit non logical things happening. Like how MC was called a deadbeat just because of trauma and mourning for his mother. I mean his mourning did took too much time but tbh it only extended to that point cause his family, who apparently love him. Couldn't even exert some effort to rehabilitate him and help him stand in two feet again.

Anyways, it's really boring most of the time. Just like... more>> events and scenes happen because they just do. Too much emotional and mental journey going here and really few actions despite them being swordsman and shit. Mc's training montage is 90% consist of him contemplating about his sword and career instead of doing and learning some epic swordmoves which tbh is really boring and uncool. It's not helping that MC is kinda dull and has bland personality that only consist of him doing nothing or doing something. There's just too little interesting or entertaining going on around him.

Tldr.

Readable but so-so and boring. <<less

This is so underrated. Honestly, I love a lot of things about this novel... I love the dynamics of the characters and their interactions with each other. The side characters definitely feel very real. The pacing of the story is also just right. The characters, plot, and world-building, of them, are top-notch. I highly recommend reading this.

Nope, not a novel for me.
Spoiler

I dislike the time skip when he was still needed to show his potential and prove to everyone around him that he was reliable. I usually don't have any problem with a time skip, but every story with it put it on the right time, not like this story. Just feel so disappointed, I was hoping for a good story with good tension but nope T_T

The actual rating from me is 2.5 out of 5*

I absolutely love it. It resonates a lot with me as I am just going through life with no clear goal.I do some things and people ask me if I want it or if I'm doing it for someone. This made me think alot and it gives me alot of incentives because I don't know what to expect. It makes think of what I want to happen and then it gave me something different but I still loved how it turned out. I found out about this manhwa when I... more>> saw a picture of the cat Ruru :D. I just found it absolutely adorable. Looking forward to the upcoming chapters. <<less

It's not 5* but it's a good character driven story. If you pay attention you'll notice plot holes and how certain things seem to get forgotten by the author, but it was good enough for me to read 219 chapters in under 24 hours so I'll give it a 5 for entertainment value.

The author tried to make the MC a loser. It's interesting to watch the MC struggle, but the problem is the author always skip and cut the interesting part. What made me ever more frustrated is why the part when the MC lose and beaten always got written so well?? This is BS!

But I'll stay a bit longer for if the later part got better plot.

Most down to earth fantasy genre novel I've ever read. Ever character is likable no annoying face slapping cliches which are nowadays used to the point that it becomes annoying. No super cheats which makes him invincible so that he can destroy everyone just because he can. MC puts a great deal of effort to achieve what he has. Despite becoming reasonably strong (though not the strongest) he managed to keep his humble side which makes him even more likable

Pretty much like the story flow, just the fights are terrible, especially in the final quarter of the story (I don't really remember the previous 3/4 since I got depressed reading how the fights unfold).

It was terrible, no battle dynamics, no description of moves, what the hell so what's the write in fighting scene? I don't know, the author keep expressing feelings instead of movements, I don't want to remember it. It's a novel about swordsman but it doesn't talk about how the sword moves in a fight, gah irritating.

I... more>> don't mind all other parts of the novel but the fight dynamics alone worth shaving off 2 stars. I still put 4 stars though, because I remember there were times it felt good. <<less

Honestly this story was great. It has way more of a focus on character development than expected and it ties into the power progression. The main character basically starts of as a blank slate and grows and develops across his journey. It was a great change of pace. Very slow paced though, but I prefer that.

The only bad part was after closer to the ending where it feels like the story goes off the rails and ends up wrapping up too quickly. I wish the author gave more chapters for... more>> things to pan out but oh well, at least the final chapters are nice. There are also quite a few side stories being written. <<less

I'd rate this at around 3.5/5 but rounded it up to 4 as a 3 seemed a bit harsh although 4 is probably generous. I did admittedly take a break halfway for a year or so so the beginning isn't quite so fresh in my memory although I think the beginning was a bit more original and interesting. However the latter half I found had pacing issues as it had a long tournament arc and then a training arc that got a bit repetitive before a quick final battle.

So far, at 53 chapters in the manga, it has been the best weak to strong plot I've seen. At the beginning he is TRUELY weak. There's not a lot of the pointless plot armor like "oh, the moon was shining and he glared at my third girlfriend so now I suddenly have the power to defeat the strongest swordsman".

He has power ups but they are reasonable (imo) and the result of hard work and/or insight from the more experienced people around him. Not to say his power isn't a... more>> bit unreasonable at times but, at least it's not every other fight. It's not your classic arrogant MC that knows everything and wins all the time. He meets strong opponents that he has no chance of winning against and he loses! Then he grows stronger from that experience.

The villans/antagonists so far have also been reasonable - meaning at least they have some IQ. You can tell the author put effort into adding character depth and not focusing on constant face-slapping moments. That being said, the villans so far have been solved fairly easily but not always by the MC. Unlike some other plots, the institutions and elders actual take action and act like they have an IQ (and don't constantly try to attack the MC).

All in all, it is a light read without too much angst or drama. It has a pretty coherent leveling process and a dash of mystery surrounding the person he dreamed about practicing sword skills. I'm hoping this level of quality keeps up and that the story does not become drawn out. <<less

I have read a lot of novels of all kinds. This one IS A LOT better than the mainstream ones you have read. It has a strong lead character and supporting casts that have struggles within themselves, their relationships and swordsmanship. You can see their character growths and how they solve their intra/extra personal problems. It has a good world building, concepts of powers/techniques are explained and not a lot of unexplained power creeping. There's a diversity of races and types of powers (swordsmanship, magic, sorcery, shamanism, etc). I am... more>> a picky reader and reviewer that I mostly only read the reviews of those who passed chapter 100, who could give a decent preview of the story. I seldom give reviews except for those extraordinary ones that I read where I see reviews by dogsh*t critiques who cant even get past chapter 10 or something. Hope you give this one a try and have a great time reading. <<less

I'll admit the start is really boring, and the MC, Irene (later renamed Airn like "Iron"), just is dependent on everyone around him and they're all flushed out more than he is. (I personally recommend reading the webcomic through chapter 31 (?), and picking the novel back up around chapter 54. That's what I did, but that's because I prefer a little visual when not much is truly happening.) For that start I can't give it 5, but it's not on the low end of the 4 stars.... more>> The thing is, though, that same problem I mentioned before is what makes the novel even better in its later chapters.

Spoiler

Everything that takes place after the timeskip is when I find things to be better, because he now has a footing in swordsmanship that he was previously just dragged into. Still has some other things to deal with, but I think the novel can be enjoyed from here.

[collapse]

Sidenote: Sorry if the spoiler tag wasn't used correctly, but I just made this account to get rid of the most recent troll-review of the novel where they give up fast. Back to the review.

The early parts that originally were boring when focused on the MC have become better, mainly due to his growth from feeling like a bug among giants to then be able to walk alongside them as not just a friend, but a rival. As he has grown, his presence in the novel grows, and we see him more in his role as the MC. Sure, there are still cuts to other characters, but now I'm interested in who this story follows the majority of the time. A young swordsman.

I won't say more, since everything in between I didn't mention of the story is worth the read. Not to mention this story has gotten daily updates (in English) so I can always enjoy that. <<less

This novel suffer from the KR author syndrome where the romance is just dead but still shown and pretended to be good but also wanting "deep friendship" while at it.

MC is great but author will rather write about boring side chara to be the "special" novel

Thats why you see this at 4.0 rating on novel updates. The end goal of this author is to write something Wholesome even if that had to be shoved into your throat constantly making your sentmentality and emotions dead.

Only korean novel tr*sh of count family... more>> did the romance+wholesome right yea by not having it at all

You dont add romance in friendship novels but here is this author.

Second coming of gluttony did romance good for certain extent even had harem something Korean authors feel afraid of.

This author needs to know the more bittersweet a story is the more wholesome conclusion is. <<less
