“Princess of Argonia, are you God’s maid of honor?”

The aggressor of the continent stared at her through his piercing eyes.

It wasn’t that he had a sword, or that he was mocking her.

He just looked at the Princess of Argonia, as if he was going to unravel her. He was staring at her with those beautiful, cynical, cruel, cold-blooded, and horribly greedy blue eyes of his, that she thought she had committed an unforgivable crime.

“W-Why are you doing this to me?”

“I don’t need a reason to break flowers.”

She always just wanted to live earnestly. But neither in her hometown nor in the imperial palace, can she escape from a man who was trying to plunder her.

I feel bad leaving a negative review when there aren't any other comments, but I wasn't feeling this story at all.

It starts off as a typical tale about a mistreated princess, Icaryl, who is the youngest daughter of the current king of a remote island nation. The country is old and has many superstitions and traditions, one of which is that the youngest daughter of the king is supposed to be sacrificed to the gods once they come of age. Anyways, Icaryl is a sickly child that has a deformed... more>> eye and can't walk. She also supposedly has a genetic disease that keeps her looking young (except for some reason her chest is able to grow?). So she stops growing at the age of 14, doesn't have a period or hair down there and doesn't have the "shape of a woman" as such, the priests hold off on her sacrificial ceremony (that somehow Icaryl doesn't know about?). Anyways, one day, the content invades the island nation and that's where the story starts.

Now, onto my thoughts:

  1. Although Icaryl is a typical Korean novel "mistreated princess" I didn't come away feeling that sorry for her. The story says "Considering those ten years of misery in her [Icaryl's] life that were more terrible than death itself..." Honestly, her life wasn't that bad, she didn't even know she was to be sacrificed. The priests tried to feed her a lot because she was so skinny and it says that "as soon as she was weaned she was treated as a sage." Yeah, sure she wasn't doted on by a father or mother but seemed the priests were really concerned about keeping her healthy and pure. The only mistreatment she received was that the priests didn't like that she couldn't walk straight so forced her to walk with a cane on her back to keep her posture upright and slapped her for not keeping her deformed eye open. Her sister, who was like 2 years older, also picked on her but I just count pushing her into the pond as typical sibling behavior. Anyways, I came away not particularly feeling her life was "worse than death."
  2. There is a lot of mentions of pe*ophile. It doesn't occur (at least in the first chapter), but I was pretty uneasy that so many men are "lusting" over Icaryl since she was 10 years old. And, considering that her body never developed after 14 years old, I'm uncomfortable that the ML would be interested in her when she looks so young.
  3. Lastly, although the translators did their best, there were many paragraphs I was confused by and had to re-read a few times or interpret on my own what was trying to be conveyed.
As I said, I only read the Prologue and First chapter so take my review with a grain of salt, the story could improve, but I won't be sticking around to find out.
