I don't like to write long review so i'll just say what I feel. I'm french so that's why there will be some grammatical mistakes :

Amazing novel. I reeeally recommend it but of course only if you can support the tags. Honestly the romance didn't seem at the forefront of the plot but still, for me who don't like these normally (r*pe tag...) honestly it's dark but don't give excuse / explanation like some novels do.

Moreover : the plot in this novel is one the most well-developped I ever saw... more>> in any harem yaoi / yaoi. This is really dark like it isn't just hunters who are heros but the ambiance is desesperate and all the main characters are somehow rended crazy by the world.

I almost didn't read it because it only has 10 chapters BUT they are reallyyyy long so don't worry about that.

Just one regret :

The end is unfair. Honestly I wanted an harem ending so much. Chan, Heesu and Taien survive partly thanks to the MC, because of him and because of wanting to see him after that. They all either love the MC or just seem to can't live without him. Maybe the author didn't want that because in a modern world polyamourous relationship can't exist but honeslty they are so crazy it wouldn't be weird. I would have even loved just extras with a harem ending (not the extra 3 in another world) or extras with each chracter ending with the MC. Feel like a wastle EVEN IF I understand that the ML has the stronger relation with the MC whwo only "hated" him. Still felt disapointed.

You have in this story a lost humanity being crazy in a crazy horror world.

The heroes use all means to get enough numb to go fight monsters and resist.

So yes. They are crazy, abusive, violent, horrible themselves. They are disgusted by themselves and the world around.

... more>> But they still fight for the humanity left.

I found this novel horrible and fascinating. Like drowning in madness like the protagonist. Nothing can be normal in this distorted reality.

The characters are disgusting and charismatic, selfish monsters ready to die for others, running to a legendary fight from which they will gain nothing.

How would we really react and become when our world crumbles? Many novels describe well structured societies whereas dungeons pop up randomly. Like a game (the big inspiration!). But there nothing is a game. It's survival un which your sanity is failing.

Beautiful, horrible, desperate and full of hope. I love this novel (thank you for the translation) <<less

i picked this novel up on a whim and even as someone who doesn't typically enjoy dub/non-con, I found the characters and plot and worldbuilding oddly intriguing? It gets quite heavy so you definitely need to be able to stomach a lot to get through it, but shinje really ended up growing on me by the ending. Yes their relationship is super toxic but he's a fascinating character with compelling flaws and motivations. The other mls are also interesting, if not entirely likable, and you get a very clear sense... more>> of why they are so f*cked up.

my favourite thing was the literary references woven into the plot -- it's mostly the divine comedy and the bible, but there's quotes from nietzsche, and goethe's faust too. Erehwon by samuel butler is also referenced, and the title might be from wilde's de profundis? I thought the novel would be mostly just smut, but it ended up feeling quite thoughtful and had a lot more gravitas than I expected outside of the s*x scenes, especially in the final chapter.

speaking of the s*x scenes. I did not Like them per se but I can understand their necessity to the plot; in my opinion, they don't seem like meaningless abuse for the sake of shock value. The author uses them quite effectively to show different sides of the characters and develop their personalities more, e.g. Shinje's possessiveness that even he doesn't really understand the reason for. I think I could write a whole essay about shinje but i'll just stop there haha

in summary, Definitely mind the tags, but check this novel out if you want something dark and intense that has interesting characters and a compelling plot even outside of the smut :] <<less

tldr; Overall, it's great work all around. If you have a strong stomach, and like your MC/ML all sorts of f*cked up, I highly recommend this one.

Slightly more detailed thoughts:

There's this tumblr tag that gets used often that goes:

Detail, in the s*x scenes. BYG's chrysanthemum and guts worked overtime with no pay all throughout the novel. Barely even resting in the extras. It's great.

It's not a long read but its very entertaining, and I could really get a good feel of each character/side-character and their motivations quite clearly. Quite impressive for such a short novel, as I've read some novels with 300+ chapters where I can't seem remember 2 of the side-characters' names.

And! The translaters really impress with the smoothness of their translation! I enjoy reading the little explanations about certain phrases and quirks specific to Korean culture. <<less

The style, story, character, the apocalypse world setting all was mWAH*chef-kiss*. My favorite couple is JC and JT. Especially Taein, our Deputy Chef-nim>o< The only reason I gived a 4 star but not 5 is because how bluntly all the "unrelated" romance line is being treated (explain in spoil).

It a foursome on the surface, but it 1v1 at the core. LIKE, at least give each character a "goodbye-smut" at final chapter uwu. ALSO, the extra chapters, I do like them; it lovely and gives the cruel story a bit more warmness. LIKE! There is 3, THREE, 3 whole extra chapter that is full on Shinje and Jugeon. However, What about reader like me who really intacted to Chan and Taein : (?! It seem like after the final battle, every other romance line that is not Shinje line is cutted off bluntly.
