Yamamoto Yuusuke, a former hero from another world, now lived his days as an ordinary humanities college student. After defeating the Demon Lord, all that awaited him were the painful separation from the princess and monotonous daily life. His once mighty powers now seemed pointless and devoid of purpose. The glory of his past had faded away, leaving Yuusuke with a mundane existence.

One day, everything changed when she appeared before him. It was an encounter with Lisha, the saint of the otherworld “Asteris,” that would reshape Yuusuke’s world. With the help of his ex-girlfriend, a magician, and former comrades, the Second War of the Gods and Demons, which would decide the fate of the world after the Demon Lord’s death, began.

Whose sake would the sword he once again wield be swung for? The once-rusty hero rises once more.

“So, please. Would you protect me as my knight?”

“I refuse.”

This would be a decent novel without our MC. Yes, it might be weird but the story is actually quite decent. That is if our MC isn't the main character. Personally, an MC being treated like sh*t is nothing new, but the way he reacted to it is just dissapointing.

Spoiler

You got chased out of the world you saved and got treated like tumor. A normal person, while might not wish for world destruction, would at least feel distant from it, or not wanting to help someone from that place. But no, he suddenly have to pitch in and save a saint, being a complete stranger at that, and let her stay at his home. Saving her from pursuers is one thing, letting her stay at his house is another, alright. After about 1 arc, MC now have faint feelings for the saint. Just why? This should've been spread out over the course of 3, 4 arcs or at least insert some development, at least. Make this believable, right?

And the ex, too. She broke up with MC for his supposed safety. Yeah, a plot I can at least understand but MC still act like nothing major happened. No acting cold or distant, simply go back to being a doormat to get stepped on.

[collapse]

Other than that, characters are decent and the story is good. The MC being the center though, drag the story down a lot. <<less

If you don't mind such jokes as "He saved my life and let me stay at his place" -> "let's call the cops on him", or "I'm paying for the clothes you need. Did you get enough underwear too?" -> "you're a pe*vert"

Then sure, this novel might be fun for you. I personally don't like it when the protagonist is treated horribly by people who should be his friend or relying on him, and this is all somehow made worse based on his experiences before the start of the novel.... more>> I don't like authors who use it for humor, at least when the protagonist isn't an awful person.

Other than that, looks like a normal OP protagonist battle fantasy harem romcom w/e. That part doesn't seem bad at all, so like I said, if you don't mind the typical jp ecchi harem romcom style of humor, don't mind my rating. <<less

The translator website is very good, so if you find another novel you like and see this translator, take a chance on it. I don't pay attention to how good the translation is itself, just how well the site works for the chapters, but I haven't seen anything egregious from a translation standpoint if you need to know.

The plot is generic, which is fine. The descriptions are decent, but not really immersive.

The characters are kinda abundant, so if you are someone that reads a lot of different things, coming back... more>> to this after an update can get confusing. You'll have to reread a few chapters to remind yourself of who is who and what their motivations are to get back into the whole story.

From here on are spoilers as to why the rating is so low, I recommend reading the story first though, you might like it:

Spoiler

I feel like this author hasn't been in a relationship before? Or maybe there is a huge resistance to making this story so dark? But if you we were treated how the MC was treated in the past AND currently, would you be this open? MC is constantly viewed and treated like an object. They're basically told "It is what it is" by their previous companions and basically has Stockholm Syndrome for the entirety of the story. The only character that even remotely values the MC will never have a shot so as the reader you are stuck reading a predictable development. Every character is so selfish and the MC basically has to acquiesce to the point of wanting to achieve their desires or everything is gg. This a very poor writing of a reluctant hero, because they were never written to be reluctant in the first place.

Hi, welcome to my review of this work. This work is really good in the way author balance element of daily life and fantasy battle. It is good and complimented with the growth of the MC. The slow and steady developement through MC's past and how he got over it is really exciting.

The characterization of the MC's is really great with how he acted like how his age should be unlike many JP immature teen MC. The way he tackle his trauma and the people involved in it is really... more>> mature. The author done a really good job. Even though it might seem and feel frustrated from the perspective of the reader but the MC's always do it within his character and never broke his characterization which is really great.

The other character, however, barely get any development. They do get their time to grow but it is barely minimum and some even don't have it. This is sometimes good and bad depending on how the character is presented. Especially the people involving the mc's main trauma (kick out of the world by the princess/crush) and how they has done it.

Spoiler

it is frustrating when the MC's former main party is not even sorry for hurting the MC's feeling that they have force the MC to back home alone when the MC just wanted to stay with people he love. The MC even become enstranged with his family after going home. That's painful. And did the party even apologize? No! The other female in the party even said that she is not sorry about it. Even if the result justified the mean, what you have done is hurting someone, apologize. The worst part? They are playing the victim card saying that they are also hurt by it. Did they not consider the MC then?. No one have apologize to the mc!!. F*cking self-righteous bunch

[collapse]

The plot is generic and predictable but presented in engaging and fun narration. It doesn't have that frustrating out of nowhere cliche. Everything done within reason.

Honestly, it is really good in generic kind of way. <<less

Lately, in the world of novels, there's been this trend, you know? They're either keeping character development simple, like, "Hey, here's our hero, and now they're super strong, " or they're giving us the all-powerful protagonist from the get-go. But this story, it's different.

This one really takes the time to show us how the main character and others grow, both mentally and physically. It does it with a great narrative and lots of detail.

Sure, it's cool to see the main character crushing it in the story, and it's a blast... more>> not having them break a sweat in battles. But, it can also make them seem kinda less human, you feel me? I mean, if they're people, they gotta have their flaws, right? The real drama, the good stuff, is all about how the protagonist deal with those flaws and come out on top. Of course, this is just my personal take.

Anyway, this title deserves more recognition and appreciation from a wider audience. It's a seriously excellent piece of storytelling, no doubt. <<less

The way battles, daily life, and the author's personal touch are all thrown in, it's pretty darn cool, I gotta say. You can really feel the passion for the work, and it's a blast diving into that world.

In a sea of simple and kinda amateurish stories out there, you can sense a strong commitment here to building a consistent and meaningful world. But, just like the protagonist's journey, the author's path might have its own share of tough times. Still, without missing a beat, I'm sending this review with a... more>> heap of gratitude and excitement, hoping to keep enjoying the story <<less

Pretty good story so far, but painfully predicable, you can predict 100% what is going to happen in any scenario or fight, there is really nothing you haven't seen before, and I can almost imagine how the story is going to end.

On the other hand, the story is pretty well crafted, with interesting characters (but kind of stereotypical), a good magic system, and pretty good fights.

If I had to compare the story to others, it would be a combination of Fate/SN, OPM, and a dash of Oregairu

The characters are well-developed, and I believe this story strikes a good balance between everyday life and romance parts and the action scenes, making it an enjoyable and easy-to-read story.

While the action scenes may sometimes feel lengthy, I think they are necessary descriptions that convey the author's passion.

Although this work doesn't have a harem tag, there are quite a few heroine-level characters. While the romantic elements aren't too overpowering, there are many appealing female characters, and I hope their feelings towards the somewhat oblivious protagonist can reach him.

(I'm not... more>> a big fan of harem developments, but since each character is charming in their own way, I hope they can all find happiness somehow.)

I've been eagerly looking forward to this series for a while now, and at the time of writing this review, the latest plot developments have hit a personal sweet spot for me. It's fantastic, and the emotions of old friends are overflowing, making it absolutely irresistible!

I believe in a bright future for each character, especially those around the main character! <<less
