My Fiancé Cheated On Me, So I Had No Choice But To Break Off The Engagement

At a night gala held for young aristocrats, my eyes chased one young girl surrounded by heaps of single men. Her name was Lulu Camell, and she was the second daughter of the Count of Camell, boasting radiant golden hair and emeralds for eyes. She was also Ruben Berner’s fiancée—my fiancée, two years younger than myself.

An engagement is also a contract between two families, and the weight of breaking off a marriage instead of dissolving it is much heavier. For my part, I wanted to dissolve in the most peaceful way possible, but…

I had no choice but to make up my mind.

During the time I read this, I'm having hard time guessing what the author's purpose is.

I guess it's a 'feels good' plot of simple revenge story? It has technically good structure and clean writing style, with a bit of twist that looks like... plot device. It's an 'okay' story.

But I get it, MC. You suffered. You're the victim. You're the good guy. And he is! He's the good guy! He's trying everything he could to maintain their relationship. But the author made the fiance as brainless 'heroine syndrome' character. 'It's my fate to be loved!' she said, more or less. The "affair" is her dancing and dating with other guys. Sure it probably count as cheating within setting, but exiled her in total isolation for that?? And let her (implied) died later?? It's too cruel. The plot blame the education of the grandparents. I mean, if you're a sensible parent, the best way is to send her to monatery, not mountain isolation. But yeah the Marqrave/Marquis who support MC and like him was so mad and decided to push her isolation. I can forgive this plot if the fiance cheating with important people with some conspiracy agenda whatsoever, but no she's just naive brainless girl who loves men attention. Thus Marquis daddy decided to total demotion. And the fiance's family decided to move on, and forget her. Till she died. Idk. I get it, cheating is wrong. But, like, it's not like she's cheating when they're married and embezzlement his money and killing his friends? Kind of unfair, I think?

It kinda went from meh to 100 in a heartbeat. But to be honest, the punishment doesn't really fit the crime. I mean, sure she was blatantly cheating and essentially insane with 'heroine syndrome'. But I don't think that exactly warranted a mountain exile. Indefinite house arrest or getting demoted to a commoner would've been proper punishment for her actions. Hell, Make her a commoner and promise her a guaranteed position for work... At a brothel... If she likes men so much she can go there and get F*cked all she wants.

I can't believe another reviewer called Aldis a 'beta' for not liking the punishment... I'm gonna throw it out there that if you like this type of 'punishment' for a girl cheating on a guy, cheating, like ''rrobz'' apparently does, you're likely a violent incel that should never interact with women. Honestly concerned for those around you.... Simply put, the punishment was unrealistically harsh, for the crime. And girl never realizes her wrongs anyway. So the payoff is just awful. ... more>>

Because she cheated on fiancee, and fiancee broke it off, she is basically put in a cabin in mountains for rest of life, isolated using GUARDS, until she commits su*cide from depression.... boring and overblown

I agree with Aldis review completely. The 'payoff' we all want to feel when reading these 'betrayal' stories, I do not feel at all with this one. Possibly worst 'evil' character I've seen written, just like 10 IQ and EQ of 'how can love bea sin?'. And some of the most overblown revenge tactics I've ever read. I can't seem to turn my brain off enough to enjoy this one, and usually I'm great at turning off my brain for these types of series... I enjoy alot of SoafP by the way...

I'm an 'eye for an eye' kind of guy, sometimes even '2 eyes for an eye', if it fits the occasion. However, this revenge was like '2 arms 2 legs 2 eyes and a tongue, for an eye'. So if you're into that, you may like this...

To give an idea of the feeling you may get reading, without giving away spoilers;

Imagine a revenge/betrayal story where there are two middle school best friends, both males. One friend is secretly spreading rumors about the other friend, behind the others back to try to get him to be less popular (let's say it's jealousy over some girl), and maybe he even does some 'super lite' bullying, like leaving a mean note. I think we've seen this trope quite a bit. Imagine for the 'revenge', the kid who is spreading rumors, is discovered and expelled from school for a few days, and then people in the class are like 'oh he's awful' and everyone's opinion of him changes. BUT it doesn't stop there (this is where novel keeps pushing). His parent's decide that's not a good enough punishment for him, so he is then FORCED to do homeschooling, he CANNOT go to ANY other schools, including colleges, for the REST of his life..... And not allowed to interact socially with anyone for the next 10 years... That's what this story feels like. Just super f*cking weird. And sounds like illegal punishment right? Yap, that's what the novel will do too. Super illegal treatment towards the 'evil FL', but we should accept it because she cheated?! Damn....

If you don't mind spoilers;

Here was the crime and punishment:

Spoiler

The crime was cheating on her Fiance, because she believes it can't be a sin to 'be loved'. So she's like 30 IQ and obviously tr*sh, there's really NO communicating with her effectively.

So he broke off the engagement, Great, and then some other Noble that was making a deal with the cheating girl's family, who really liked our MC, tells that Family he doesn't want to see that cheating daughter of theirs at any social gatherings, and will not recognize her as their daughter. So they disown the girl, because she's screwing up Noble relationships, THAT's ALL GOOD TOO. I'm fine with that... but what comes next?

They basically lock her in a cabin in the mountain by herself, making her farm her own land for food... and they give her updates on how good everyone's life is going through letters, until she kills herself.... Like what?

They should have just kicked her out, let her roam the streets or whatever, (she had a 'noble exile', so she could NEVER get back into upper class society ever again), and then you could have had her whole 'regret' arc where she realizes what the real world is like. Stops living in her delusions. But to lock her up isolated, sounds not only insanely illegal and immoral (Would be in the US), but made it so she like has no understanding of how deluded she really was.

Classic NTR zamaa revenge story. Enjoyable to read, no lame web novel tropes. Cannot disagree more with Aldis's review. The unhinged, deceitful, cheating female lead thoroughly deserves the punishment she receives (after numerous opportunities to change her ways), and the review just comes across as a beta accepting and forgiving a deceitful, cheatin' hoe.

Well this is pretty much a short revenge story that is pretty much all about the MC breaking up with his fiancee and then what happens to him and her after because it's so short it feels like just writing about it will give the whole shory away so spoilers ahead.

Spoiler

First of it's never explained exactly how far the fiancee went with cheating on the MC. It is said that she is known as a sl*t and the fiancee herself tells the MC after their marriage that he will have to prepare rooms in their house where her lovers can live.

It is sort of heavily implied that she has slept around a lot but the only things told outright is that they have been engaged for 7 years, she refuses to go on dates with him by faking ilness and such, demands gifts and money while humiliating him in public gatherings by flirting with other men openly while at the same time easily dating and being with other men while wearing the gifts they give her and telling the MC directly about how her lovers are so much better.

Instead the story focuses on the break up and subsequent outcomes for everyone involved.

Personally the story is okey but the setting and background of the story makes it weird.

In short the story is set in a medieval setting and the kingdoms nobility is split into 3 factions the royalists, the aristocrats and the neutral.

The MC is part of a powerful noble family that is of the neutral faction while the fiancee, MC's two best friends one of whom is the fiancee's sister are powerful nobles part of the royal faction so to make the MC + family part of the royalists the MC + fiancee engagement was set up but the aristocrats to prevent this merger sent honey traps against the fiancee repeatedly which is sort of the center of the story.

What is weird here is that for the 7 yeara they were engaged the fiancee's family didn't do squat to prevent any of this from happening and instead just let the fiancee do whatever she wanted with the explanation that she's spoiled and they dote on her so even though she was doing all of this in the open and everyone pretty much knew about her playing around and the engagement with the MC was important. They don't do anything but the second the MC breaks of the engagement and the male best friend who's from a higher ranked noble family, MC + fiancee families are counts while they are a step higher as marquizes, scolds the fiancee's family.

All the lovers and honey traps instantly backs off because the fiancee's family is too powerful and everyone is scared of them... Like why is this even mentioned or part of the story? If the engagement is so important and they had the power to stop their daughter or at leats the men approaching her at any time then why didn't they do it for 7 years until the MC eventually had enough???

I also can't understand why the MC isn't even mad at them a little bit and just keeps thinking and saying it's all the fiancee's fault because of how she is. Especially after we find out that the fiancee's family is implied to have known all along as well, consented to it because they spoiled her and to some degree even seemingly shielded her and tried to hide/cover up what she was doing.

[collapse]

All in all the revenge story and break upa is decent but because of the overall settings and background I honesly can't give this story more then 2 or 3/5 but I'll be generous and give it a 3. <<less

Pretty solid. The part that excels for me in this story is how painless the process is while still maintaining the satisfying payback. The betrayal is kinda glossed over without going into too much details (which is good in this case) and the revenge comes fast. Would be pretty a good as a beginner into this kind of genre if you felt others being borderline sadist.
