Little Tyrant Doesn’t Want to Meet with a Bad End

The moment the little tyrant of the nobles, Roel Ascart, saw his stepsister, he recalled his memories. He realized that he was in the world of a gal game he played in his previous life. To make things worse, he was the greatest villain in the common route of the game!

“I’ll be killed by the main character and the four capture targets ten years from now. Is there still any hope for me?”

Just thinking about the fearsome glints of those sharp swords those beautiful capture targets held in their hands, Roel couldn’t help but tremble in fear.

Till a voice finally sounded in his head.

Good novel but at the same time tiring.

It has a really detailed story with a cliche setting done well but like mentioned above, the details in here are tiring af.

Sometimes it feels like you are studying a book from college or school rather than enjoying a novel with the amount of explanation it does with 30% of it being useless or forgettable.

I personally feel like if the useless explanations were removed, it would consist of 75-80 chapters or so, at least till what I've read so far rather than 115... more>> chapters.

So for those of you who just like stories cutting to the chase it may be a bumpy ride for you but if you can bear through it, this will probably be a great read.

The characters are not one dimensional but at the same time they don't exactly feel extremely unique.

The MC is not your generic boring ass nice guy but at the same time don't expect him to be the cool and interesting type.

The story however is really well done.

You might think that with all the rambling I'm doing, I might've rated the novel lower but since I really enjoyed reading it, even though it was a pain at times, I think 4 stars is well deserved.

I do recommend ppl who are really bad at remembering lots of names to make a note of all the characters present either in a notebook or in your pc/laptop/phone since they sometimes mention a name which was mentioned many chapters ago and you will have a hard time remembering who they are/were. <<less

Great read. Would have rated it 5 stars if not for 2 very irritating reason.

1. MC's tolerance and spoiling of his sister's actions

2. The manipulative bit*h herself, the "sister", Alicia

Basically it is a great story if not for the manipulative b*tch, Alicia. MC's other harem I have no issues with since they are honest and upfront with their feelings and actions. Unlike the b*tch, Alicia, who is so fake and manipulative. I can't stress enough the word "manipulative" people. Because she is. And I hate her.

First off, most of the negative reviews are just terrible readers. I quickly made this review and there may be a few mistakes.

The story has all the elements of what makes a good story.

  1. Character
    1. Spoiler

Main character is Roel Ascart, he gains memories of his past life of a video game 'Chronicle' and is aware of his position in the world and the "storyline". The author does well to develop his character, his flaws and struggles. The author does well to develop the heroines and side characters such as his father.

      [collapse]
  2. Setting
    1. Spoiler

There is a misunderstanding on the setting, for some reason people want to impart their views of this world into this fantasy world, specifically, coming of age. In this world, children come of age much quicker than in our world. Additionally, the author fully explains magic or power levels, "Origin attributes" and "Bloodlines". It is not simple as rock, paper and scissors or fire and water elements but as complex as "STANDS" in JoJo adventure and Nen in HunterXHunter. Lastly, there is a lot of mystery of the world that the reader will slowly comprehend with the main character.

      [collapse]
  3. Conflict
    1. Spoiler

There is several different conflicts the main character goes through. First, he wants to remove all his deathflags by becoming a better person and by becoming stronger. Second, he has to balance his relationships with other characters. Third, huge spoiler, stop reading this now... There are not only conflict with humans, but conflict with "corrupt demons" as well as conflict with organizations and calamities.

      [collapse]
  4. Plot
    1. Spoiler

Roel learns about his bloodline, ancestors, origin, discovers history, he tries to solve the mystery and avoid death. There is romance that is carefully knit together, he has a harem but the harem does not revolve around him. They unfortunately have a lot of responsibilities and can't stand by his side all the time. These heroines also go through their own character development and do change.

      [collapse]
  5. Theme
    1. Mystery, tragedy, action, romance, horror, video game
Each Arc has a proper Story Mountain.

Massive spoilers on the arcs.

Spoiler

Roel Ascart, awakens his bloodline and origin attribute. His bloodline allows him to tap into flashbacks of points into history when combined with another bloodline. His origin attribute is history, he becomes stronger when he learns about history but it scales with how accurate it is. So far, it seems that each Arc begins when he encounters each heroine, his bloodline activates and he is sent to a flashback point in history with the heroine. They both have to find a way to survive.

[collapse]

Overall, I love the pacing of the novel. There are time skips and the author does not drag the story too much. There are some politics but it is understandable.

The world building in the novel is phenomenal. All the different places, historical remnants, and discoveries were all extremely interesting and plays their part in the storyline. The characters are also unique, even the small side characters. The romance and interactions between the male and female leads are quite satisfying to read and leaves me wanting more. There also isn't much cliche plots and is very unique, reacting to the current situation.

It's a flawed work but still an enjoyable read with fun character interactions (even in MTL) and some epic moments here and there.

The main complaint I have is that the harem elements feel a little bit unbalanced, and generally the focus tends to be on the MC with one of the FLs for any given arc, barring the occasional shuraba when they collide. One FL in particular seems to have gotten shafted up to where I've been reading. This is in contrast to, say, Sevens, where the MC moves as... more>> a group with the harem and allows for non-hostile interactions between the FLs.

I'm just sad that I have to put this series on hold for a few months to let the translations catch up, since I've read ahead nearly 250 chapters. <<less

After a certain point, the fact that it is an otome game does not matter much, apart from that it has very good female characters:

Spoiler

* A heroine who is the protagonist's stepsister and who is very sticky with him!

* A sadistic princess who wants to dominate and monopolize him

* Finally a "princess" of an independent kingdom who first acts tough but after falling in love with the MC decides to kidnap him and marry in her own kingdom

I really want to enjoy this story, but I can't. I have so many question about this novel like:

  • Why make MC and his harem 8-10 years old when all of them are 200IQ. You could make them all 16 years or older so they s*xual tension wouldn't be so akward
  • How the f*ck
    Spoiler

beating other 10 years old expose conspiracy to overthrow the crown

    [collapse]
?His reward for this was national treasure, why?
Idea of attributes and classes sounds fun but it's useless if you don't use it and you can't fully use it because your characters are children whom are suppost to learn and grow right now, not go adventuring.

Maybe at some point the story gets better, idk. I read 100+ chapter and it's mediocre.

My opinion: It's a fun read.

Pro:

  • Despite haveing love-stuck herions it doesn't feel unreal to me and I do feel it is quite reasonable given the circumstances (due to the predetermined character settings because of the game, the past of the girls before meeting the MC and the experience thay had to go through together
  • To me, the MC has just the right amount of intelligence he is not totally clueless to miss obvious sings and is not smart enough to see through everything. So the MC quite relatable and understandable.
  • Until now I didn't find any situation occurring for the sake of occurring. All of them have a reason which lets to such a circumstances. Therefore although it feels like fate we know that this is not entirely a consistence.
  • The world building is awesome and there is no obvious flow with it.
Cons:

  • Because the powers of MC are unclear, it feels like the MC gets lucky by borrowing the help for other transcendent being at the right time whenever the situation turns for worse. This could be due to the power of the MC which is not entirely explored but until then this is one place where I feel that it is too coincidental.

Disclaimer: The reason why this series has such high ratings is that the translator encouraged readers to rate the series. Since readers are most likely biased in favor of Little Tyrant Doesn't Want to Meet a Bad End, they skewed the score. In my personal opinion, this series is a 3 out of 5.

Little Tyrant Doesn't Want to Meet a Bad End, which I will refer to as LTBE onwards, suffers from most of the same things that plague other harem stories. Roel Ascart acts oblivious to the affection shown... more>> by the love interests, side characters are one dimensional, and the "House Resurgence System" is a free win card whenever it pops up.

"Affection Points" reduce the impact of Roel's actions since the reader knows that the Roel does nice things to get something out of it. There is no denying that altruism is selfish in a societal sense, but the way Roel acts whenever he gets "Affection Points" makes all his interactions feel like they come from a place of greed.

The first 20 chapters are a chore to read through, and feels as though the author is still trying to get into the right mindset to write this story. Readers can find throughout the series how the author wants the story to go, but he chose the wrong character or background setting for the story. Unless I plan on going on a watchlist, I would never describe a child as seductive and ravishing. The author also retroactively states that mana causes humans to mature faster 132 chapters in. Kingdom building is also included in this gal game isekai death flag novel for a few chapters until the author scraps that idea.

There are some positives that I found in the story. Roel does eventually become a standard siscon brother that makes his earlier greed seem like a distant memory, and he goes on to do good acts that seem to come from a place of kindness. Antagonists have compelling, understandable reasons for committing evil acts. The heroines Alicia, Nora, and Charlotte are likeable, but don't expect anything else besides one dimensional personalities.

I actually think taking the "House Resurgence System" out of this story would improve the overall feeling. Nothing would be lost, and every interaction would not be infected with a feeling of false kindness. The power system means nothing against the power of plot armor, but there's no need to remove it. It exists as a goalpost for the MC, similar to how power levels are in Yu Yu Hakusho. I have yet to see Roel lose a fight, and I expect he won't lose a fight unless there's some huge contrivance happening.

I did enjoy reading LTBE, but I can't rightfully say that this story is a 4 or greater. This story does not innovate or change the isekai genre, gal game genre, or even just harem stories in general. Read this story if you crave more of the same, but don't expect this novel to be the next Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. <<less

Keeping this short, since this is one of those novels where why I dislike it may be why you like it:

1) MC loses all IQ when it comes to the underage “super attractive” girls.... and they are really underage. MC does not at any point honestly tell them that he’s not ready for romance when he should have.

2) MC is supposed to be avoiding death flags but instead jumps headlong into all of them for his harem and because of his small IQ.

Why not work on being stronger and form... more>> your own power away from intrigue? Well, because the MC wants to follow the “everything is in my plan because I crossed with knowledge of the fake world I read about.”

More of the s*upid dilemna baiting about not wanting to change stuff vs changing it. You complete moron! You’ve already thrown the plot into the shredder. Just act like a nice human.

3) There is a lot of filler.

What I define by filler is: “stuff not important to the main plot that also adds no character or defining knowledge about the main or side characters.”

There is so much word boosting where nothing happens and MC is just sitting or standing around. It’s not buildup. It’s just bad writing.

4) MC who does stuff alone.

Now you might see this as a plus?

But the MC is a severe position of power. He really should be abusing that more if he wants so desperately to live. If any sane person was in his place, they would have easily gotten the favorability of the heroines or simply told others the dangers he was facing in order to get help.

... and he keeps not asking for help when it would easily solve his problems!

You’re not cultivating man!!! Just ask your contacts for assistance so you won’t die.

Sigh.

As always if anyone needs further details just message.

Score - 2/10

(Ignore the creepy vibes and stuff happening that should disgust you) <<less

This novel started out good, but went downhill really fast for me. The reasons being:

  1. Although he is mentally over 30 years old, around 10 years old girls lead him by the nose. He practically gets abused by these kids and he can not say no them. On top of that, some of the descriptions about the little kids being sexy is something...
  2. Be it system, bloodline abilities or other stuff, if MC is in need of something, it is delivered on a silver platter. If he needs to advance his rank, system is just gonna discount the stuff he needs. If he needs power, the convenient bloodline power will overpower the enemy. Side effect? Don't worry about them because we got the cure as well.
  3. MC is beyond dense. I get that this is used to keep the harem rolling, but it gets frustrating real fast.
There are probably many other stuff I missed. Due to these reasons, it feels like you can replace the MC with a wooden log and around 90% of the story would still be the same. MC just has no personality or impact.

Also personally, I hated Nora parts. ... more>>
Spoiler

Given the MC's temperament, if she asked to f**k his a*s with a dildo, he would probably say yes within 50 chapters.

All in all, I might come back to check the novel again but I am just not hopeful that these points will improve. <<less

Quite good in terms of dynamics and plot...

Though the ways for him to get the heroines except for one is quite telegraphed in my opinion...

Spoiler

Starts at meeting (with low or little expectation except the Angel girl) > Getting warmed up by our MC saying good things or actions > then here comes the History fragment > Heroine will know their full connection to MC at this rate > Falls in love > Shuraba from old heroines > Rinse and repeat

[collapse]

Even though it's repetitive in my opinion, it still feels fresh with new twists.

Pros:

  • MC is not a wimp at all
  • MC is actually not a dense mofo (except for one, but you can't blame him... maybe atleast 90% his fault and his perception and starting to fix it)
  • Heroines are actually unique that you can actually distinguish them apart.
  • Plot is quite good enough for a game story.
  • Original Protagonist is actually not forgotten or thrown out of the window or maybe becomes a villain like similar stories.
Cons:

  • Repetitive AF, you'll know the moment would the Heroine will fall... HARD (Except for one)
  • Too many info dumps that you would be choked sometimes (though it's normal on one side as the story is based on history and time travel, but it's too much exposition)
  • Some characters and villains are actually "forgotten" (especially after the Angel Arc which has a major villain still not taken care of, hopefully we get closure on this)
  • Noble dynamic and School setting is quite bland even with the explanation of sorts being given.
  • We still don't see any sort if "rival" character and felt like the world is actually revolving on MC.

This novel gives you the illusion that there is progress while nothing actually happens. The relationships don't advance and the MC doesn't do much. I think the author wants to progress things but can't since they are still kids, but I'm not sure if it would even advance a lot in the end. Therefore this awkward "progress" is the result.

Another problem with the novel is that the author could spend some more time writing the heroines. Aside from their initial story arc they become pretty flat and uninteresting. Stuck in... more>> a single stereotype ie; little sister type, elder sister type, the doting housewife type and the sadistic teasing type. This is a major area the author could improve in to make the story better.

The overall plot is actually done decently. The plot eventually switches from him trying to survive his death flags to a big mystery about the world they live in. It's pretty interesting.

Some of the criticism in here is kind of unfair and could be explained if said reviewer actually read the story. In this novel not all nobles are tr*sh, they actually got a country to run. The church isn't actually bad, and doesn't even have a prejudice against necromancers. Sure people fear skeletons but it was clearly explained that it wans't illegal because the undead existed since the ancient times and they believe that it's a creation of their god. Furthermore the lack of explanation of certain things is also in line with the part that the MC has forgotten about a lot of the story because it has been more than 10 earth years that he had played that game. Furthermore some of the plot points will be revealed later in each of the girl's arcs. <<less

Well the book's finally done. It was a good read. Towards the end it got a bit off but it is probably because the Author was rushing to finish. This does not mean that we had glaring rushed scenes but the feeling was there.

Coming to the book itself. It is a very good book that blends elements of MC reincarnated as the villain and the system together. Harem is also an important aspect on this one so people who don't like it will have to sit this one out.

Plot:

Spoiler

MC reincarnates into a galge as a minor villain and brother of Heroine. He gets his memory back when he sees the heroine for the first time and gets on the job right away to break his death flags. He has a system which gives him points for getting affection from other people and has a shop which he can spend those points in. Points are also spent in the earlier part of the story to upgrade his "potential" from tr*sh to MC level and everytime he has to breakthrough the cultivation ranks he has to use points for "safety" reasons.

Main plot is that there are 2 god level entities who are squabbling for control of the planet with their proxies since they themselves are in hibernation. MC is trying to prevent their followers from awakening the gods and pull out his death flags at the same time. He also is able to hook up with the heroines while doing this since Author wants it.

He doesn't really pay attention to the events of the actual game too much beyond the major ones so this is a little different from the other stories where the MC has foresight and plays the plot to their advantage/tries to keep plot consistency. None of that here.

The story ends with him getting married to his harem off screen (we only get the prep until the wedding begins in an epilogue chapter)

[collapse]

Characters:

MC- Dense as a rock is his main trait. He doesn't recognize romance until the girls are straight with him. But he does take it seriously and does not go into denial that they are joking or some sh*t like a lot of JP MCs tend to do. He has a sense of self worth and is very much ready to put everything he has on the line if he feels that his family/ harem members are going to be in trouble. Overall he is a likable guy.

His power comes from contracting with the souls of powerful gods from the past like how we have the servant summonings in the fate franchise. In here he has to go into a test dungeon that are created by the gods who are interested in making a contract with him and passing the trials (often accompanied by a harem member to brush up on their likability towards MC) allows him to call on the gods during battles and use their abilities. He starts of pretty weak but he has just enough strength to deal with the problems that are thrown his way. So the author kept the stakes engaging throughout the story.

Harem:

Not too big. We got 5 ladies here.

Spoiler

Alicia: The sister that starts the story off. She is a main member of one the gods factions. So we have some drama there. Add even more drama due to her being the MCs "sister". She is the first heroine we as readers are introduced to but joins the harem officially last. Most of the story she keeps trying to get past the "sister" barrier. Their interactions in the earlier part of the story when they were still behaving as proper siblings was very cute. Once she is aware of her feelings things shift gears and whenever we see her on screen she while still cute looses the fluffy vibe you get at the start.

Nora: Princess of the country that MC and his family belong to. She falls for the MC since he is the only one who understands her "secret" personality. One of the few instances of the MC using his game knowledge towards his benefit. Again her interactions with him before she falls for him were very unique since she is a sad*st and likes to treat MC as her pet. No hardcore stuff just the way the dialog is. She will not disrespect him or look down on him, it is just her asserting her ownership on him most of the time. She is also MCs childhood friend.

Charlotte: Daughter of the head of a merchant group that "rules" a neighboring country. MC unknowingly saves her father using one of the system items since he was looking to make some cash by selling his unique items that he got from the system. That gets her interested in him and she becomes his sponsor financially once she falls for him. She was MCs fiance as discussed by elders in the family but due to MCs villanous reputation before the awakening of his memories she initially has a bad impression of him and comes to break off the engagement by buying the MC off after learning that he is in need of money. MC also agrees since he really does need the money but she falls for him before they can go through with the contract so she just supports him anyway. She is my personal favorite due to how cute she acts with the MC.

Lilian: Princess of another country neighboring the MC's country. She is MC's senior at school and gets interested in the MC after observing his upgraded talent. She is also the older sister of the original Protagonist of the game that the world is based on. She is bloodline kin with the MC which is to say she is another "sister" character that just doesn't have the same parents as the MC. She starts as cold and calculating and tries to push the MC down since he is a noble of the country that her home country is hostile to. MC also takes in the game's original MC into his faction that she doesn't like as she doesn't like a royal of her country working under a noble from a hostile country. She r*pes the MC and gets pregnant with his child after falling for him since she knows that their countries are in a hostile relationship and it is not possible for them to get married. After MC finds out about it he convinces her to become lovers and she works towards the goal of making sure that she can marry the MC in the future.

Wilhelmina: She is also a princess from a foreign country. She has been instructed from birth to be a retainer of the MC and act as his bodyguard to the extent of giving her life if needed. She isn't alone in this and has a whole crew of friends who help her with this same goal. She falls for the MC after the MC tells her that her life is just as important as his own and puts his life on the line multiple times to save hers.

[collapse]

Side characters:

The side characters actually have well defined goals and personalities so they don't feel like aimless NPCs to act as a peanut gallery and praise the protagonist. In fact more often than not it is the MC that ends up relying on other characters to help him out with what he needs to get done. I really liked how the MC actually bothers to involve the people whom you would expect to be involved in any given situation rather than just doing everything solo.

Translation:

The translation is fantastic. There were some issues with the release schedule towards the end but now everything is out so that is not an issue for new readers. Thank you to the translators and editors for working so hard on this book and translating it to the end.

I definitely recommend people read this one. I just had a few little things that I didn't really feel good about like how the system completely vanishes into the void around the middle of the story so it is only used for his initial powerups and whenever he makes a breakthrough. The system shop and items in that never come up in later arcs. The other thing would be the ending as it felt like there was much more that could have been explored but the author just cut it short for whatever reason. Still a very nice story overall so if you like Harem you should definitely read this one. <<less

I'm legitimately surprised. I genuinely didn't expect a story of this quality from a CN novel.

If I had to pick the best part of this story, it was how they tied up all the loose ends, everything that stuck out weird, like where the system came from, from the start, all the way to the end, were tied up super neatly and resolved.

The plot moved along at a good pace, there was some drag, but nothing like the usual 2000+ chapters of hot air and copy paste arcs.

The downside on... more>> the other hand, is the harem quite frankly. Although resolved in a somewhat okay manner, the non-stop harem antics are probably the lowest point of the novel. Eventually you just want to slap the guy for unintentionally flirting with everyone and then acting s*upid and, surprising for a CN novel, meek when the harem inevitably blows itself up around him. It's not like he doesn't know it either, it's explicitly stated that he does, but he just doesn't have the balls to take responsibility.

The power levels are a bit iffy, but that's a given in CN novels. Someone mentioned above that in the later half of the novel that the MC devolves into the typical CN powerful curb stomper but I kinda disagree. Even until the end of the novel, it's explicitly stated the MC's powers come at a cost, and although the MC gets more and more respected as he climbs up the power ladder, he never stops fighting people above his weight class, so in pretty much every single goddamn fight he gets in, he will end up tattered and half dead. It's even a plot point that he simply can't fight without putting one foot in the grave and it gets exploited by his enemies.

Which frankly, is amazing consistency and writing for a CN author. Even better, there is absolutely no bloating of the power ladder, origin 1 to origin 7 is it. You don't suddenly get origin-plus-1 popping out of nowhere as they climb to another random slightly-more-powerful-continent bullshit.

Overall, an amazing read and one of my top picks for 2023. <<less

MC transmigrates into harem game, and finds out he is a villain with many death-flags. It's a funny story with romance and harem elements. The world building is not incredibly detailed, but there are many story arc's full of history and stuff.

All the girls are great, and each get their own storyline where they get close to the MC. All 3 of the later girls get pulled into the witness state with the MC, which is impactful, but also feels a bit cheap. My main gripe with the story is... more>> how beta and wimpy the MC acts around the harem members, while being so functional in everything else. There seems to be a block preventing the MC from understanding the feelings of the girls, and he doesn't feel like a man at all when he is unable to cope with the feelings of the girls.

I like obsessive love interests, but the story really lost it's direction, and I'm not super interested in the main plot with the bloodlines and the villains etc. The main story doesn't feel like it's moving in any direction, and the plot has just become frustrating to read. I enjoyed the story for it's funny misunderstandings, fleshed out love interests, and emotionally moving scenes between MC and girls, but the story kind of ruined that by making the MC not acknowledge them in the future. <<less

I don't remember what chapter I read up to but I do remember when I dropped this

Spoiler

which was when the FLs were fighting over the ML and when they asked him to choose, he dead ass started crying like a baby

[collapse]

I mean, the author can't make up their mind on whether these are kids with the maturity of adults or if they are straight up kids

Spoiler

only the male lead with an adult mind is the only one to throw a tantrum, the girls are pretty calm and calculating throughout, depending on the plot

[collapse]

I'm getting sick of these kids behaving like adults in these types of novels, I mean, imagine hanging out with people who talk about playing with dolls or tag, etc, every day that aren't your relative, but in these types of novels, they be drinking tea and talking about politics and economics and what to do in the future, which i've never done even in highschool and college.

It is not a complex novel or too innovative, but exquisitely fulfills what they pose in their beginnings, the development of the characters and the story is excellent both the mysteries of the world and its complexities are very well developed, although personally I do not like the harem, this is one of the few novels of this genre that I approve of its romance, all relationships with fMC, are of the best, none of them feel apart or useless, they have strong personalities and characteristics, and although the MC... more>> is mostly dense, he is not an idiot and knows what is going on, when the situation warrants it he is usually intelligent and bold in the face of danger, a very underrated and maligned novel for no reason I recommend it if you want to see a good harem, an interesting story and a background of the deep world. (I am a native Spanish speaker so excuse the mistakes). <<less
