Level 99 Villainous Daughter

Description

I was reborn as the villainous daughter, Yumiela Dolknes, in the world of an otome RPG game. Yumiela only had a small role in the original story, but after defeating the Demon King, she will appear as the Hidden Boss with a bonus specs to solo fight the Hero party.

Having a gamer-spirit, I’ve been raising my level since I was a child. By the time I enter the academy where the game stage is, I was level 99.

I wanted the heroine and the capture targets to defeat the Demon King, but they just flirted around and didn’t raise their level. Moreover, they treat me as if I’m the Demon King just because I have dark hair and use dark magic.

It’s a story where I aim for peaceful days.

The female lead behaves as if she suffers from mental ret*rdation. She is painfully oblivious about nearly everything and her abject s*upidity is played for laughs. She get noticeably more idiotic after the demon king arc is competed. She is also callously uninterested in everything and everyone around her. Her attention span solely devoted to her interest in the game mechanics of her world. She behaves like a severely mentally ret*rded individual and it really isn't funny. If she were a better person it would be miserable and sad but... more>> she is so unlikable that I just found myself hating every moment reading about her. The writing and plot are also bland as hell and soulless. As other reviewers noted the author clearly was winging it after the demon king arc. After reading for a while out of a sort of morbid curiosity I awoke my good senses and decided to use my time more wisely. <<less

This feels like one of those novels where the author planned out the first volume or so then had to start improvising. I would suggest reading volume 1 then putting it on hold to see if it goes anywhere interesting. So far with the translated part of volume 2 I would say that it has not *frustratingly, because there were certainly some things that could have been plot hooks had they not been brushed away after a chapter).

I forced myself reading this but I can't bear it any longer. The writing is superficial and the characters have no depth also.

It started with somewhat a good premise. I had my hopes up but the way the author described things is just so anticlimatic. Flat tones, no explaination for quite a bit of plot holes and even the comedy parts aren't that funny. Honestly I'm just dissapointed.

To me, this is nothing but another good setting ruined by mediocre writing. The first arc is quite good, give it a try... more>> maybe even farther if you can bear reading like a child ignoring all the inconvinience world building. <<less

I gave it 3 stars because of the translation, but the story is really bland.

The writing is fine, no grammar mistakes, it's easy to read and simple to understand. However, the characters are flat and the characters are either good or bad and there's no in between. Especially the FL, she's the worst out of them all (at some point you can just tell what she's thinking since she's too predictable and dense af). The author made her lack common sense, but in a way which it would make her... more>> seem s*upid and naive instead of just dense.

The plot... was pretty bad. It's cliché (the Reincarnated into otome villainess kinda thing) and repetitive. Cliché is not a problem. Problem is the plot sounds good, but at some point the plot fell flat and was getting boring. Not only the plot, the comedy started to get less funny, even with my low standards for comedy, which made me drop it. The plot is repeating almost every two chapters, to simply put,

The first Plot line: some people underestimate/bully/laugh at the villainess, she shows them how OP she is. They're afraid. aWEsOmE!

Second Plot line: People want FL's help since she's OP, she either refuses or agrees. FL: I say I'm not kind but my actions say otherwise.

The story honestly isn't all that good, and the FL pisses me off. I would not recommend this, but if you're really into OP FLs who are s*upid and dense as hell, I'm not stopping you. <<less

This story is okay. It really just feels like a bad version of "I'm Not a Villainess!! Just Because I Can Control Darkness Doesn't Mean I'm a Bad Person! (LN) "

Mainly I'm just sick of these Otome games having viciously s*upid dialogue like this:

Heroine walks up: "YOU'RE THE VILLAINESS"

... more>> MC: "No. Also I don't care about the Prince"

Heroine starts crying: "STOP BULLYING ME! VILLAINESS"

Prince walks up "WHY DID YOU MAKE HER CRY"

*Similar dialogue must appear every other chapter*

I would rate this story 4 stars if the heroine and capture targets didn't behave like actual 4 year olds. <<less

Well for now I have finished reading until ch27 which is the epilogue for volume 1 or the first arc maybe. If you want something fluffy of comedic I don't think this is the right novel for you. My first expectations before reading this is that it is about an OP MC maybe trying to live a peaceful life but hilarity and misunderstandings with comedic undertone. But what you will get is a bit darker story I don't really understand how it became comedic undertone but for me the whole... more>> volume 1 is pretty serious if not dark.

here's some of the reasons why

Spoiler
    1. Yumiela (MC) never met her parents until they tried to assassinate MC
    2. As said in the synopsis the MC is being framed the supposed "protagonist" of the otome game as a Demon King until the end well another spoiler is that the "protagonist" died after betraying the MC before the Demon King fight well she got what she deserved. Well the result of claiming that she's the Demon King the MC is pretty much ostracized except for 1 person in the school.
    3. The original Demon King was too pitiful as he was really just another black-haired guy betrayed by his friend, lover & country.
    4. Well the same as with other novel Cliches the country is rotten with war-mongers nobles & people who discriminate just because of having black hair even without the dark magic.
    5. Well before the Demon King fight MC claimed her noble title I think she was an Earl so next volume would be territory management.
      [collapse]
It is not a bad novel per se but it kinda got boring or lacking as there there isn't much action as MC being level 99 is pretty OP and can kill & subdue anyone without effort. Poison also doesn't seem to work on MC. It is a fantasy world where there is a talisman for protection which can protect anyone once from fatal injuries and it seems that it is a common item, maybe it might get better with the territory management & marriage arc

At most the adventure the MC went was when she went to a barony to insta-killing two dragon to steal their egg then raised said egg as if she's the mother. I know it is just me being biased but I seriously have a problem with this kind of logic if the dragon can talk I'm tempted to ask "Hey how does it feel like to be raised like a pet by the one who killed your parents as if chickens and doesn't even feel any remote guilt".

For the romance part.. Yep still need to read the next arc to see any romance but atleast she got a partner.

For now as of volume 1 its 3/5 stars <<less

This book follows the general trope of otome game, I'm villainess, but the MC trains at a young age to become the maximum level of 99... Not a very original but a fine concept for a book, the issue is that like most op protagonist books its a wish-fulfillment, where once you become this op you can do basically whatever you want but in this novel the protagonist just doesn't... So she is essentially discriminated against by the otome game male leads, where they are going out of their way... more>> to do things like declare her the demon lord yet for some reason she is still just going along with everything... At this point she has already said that she can defeat the demon lord solo and she plans to so what is the point of staying in this kind of environment. Overall this seems to be the biggest issue with this novel for me, her character is just so flat where she killed monsters for a long period of time but it doesn't seem to have affected her personality at all and all of her interactions are just her as a typical noble. Theres very little to her other than acting like a noble and the otome game. I can't give her a single personality trait other than gullible since she keeps going along with everything despite plenty of things that should make her give up on them. Even the king decided to have a knight essentially surprise attack her which could have killed her if she wasn't strong, characters like the queen just feel like they want to use her even if they act like they care about her, overall it just feels like there isn't a single decent reason for her to stay in her family and stay in this country. <<less

I know these reviews aren't meant for the translation, but I think there really should be a note that this translation misses the context all over the place, it doesn't understand the text that it's translating at all, it's awful. Like, japanese usually leaves out the subject in sentences and the reader understands what the subject is from context, but in this translation it's pretty much a coin flip whether the omitted subject is translated into the right one, no matter how obvious it is. I don't understand how you... more>> can fail to understand the text you're translating so much... I just hope it's also obvious to others that this isn't just bad original writing. Please check out the manga, it's fantastic and a completely different read from this. <<less

So many bad review.... Hahaha.. But this is actually one of my few bookmarks that I (kinda) wait to update.

Honestly, if you want an in-depth story, with character building, world building, common sense, relationship between characters, then, all the bad review is justified.... Because this story has none 😂😂

Why I like it, purely for comedic read. MC is literally OP but has no common sense, so basically a disaster. Her thought processes is really weird. Not naive or air-head, but weird. Which (for me) is funny. It's kinda easy to... more>> enjoy the story once you know what to expect. And yes... The summary (main story, I guess) only about volume 1. The continuation after that was like another arc that had nothing to do with her villainess setup.
Spoiler

well, mostly because she's the one who defeat the demon lord in vol 1, so of course she won't be view as villain

Seems like author doesn't really know how to write novels.

Either that or maybe he didn't have ANY plans on vol2 when writing an ending to vol1.

It started kinda okay, but... ending of the 1st volume...

Just ends everything.

More spoilers:

he just f*cking killed most of the important characters without any drama/comedy/premise. Like just all of them in a single chapter. Everyone who was simply wrong and didn't believe MC just f*cking died. And then he forgets about any action/adventure/f*cking any other possible premises and "volume1 end"

And then, in volume 2 it looks like author went "wait I still have to write something?!" and goes full slice of life while adding new character out of nowhere because others are ded.

Giving it 2 more stars than this thing actually deserves just because beggining was kinda ok. <<less

As far as the story goes, if it had stopped after the first volume, I would have given it four stars, probably. Since it doesn't, I'm not.

I'll start by saying that the translations are fine. They paint a clear picture of what's going on most of the time and don't look to be dropping it anytime soon.

Now... The first volume is a very neat and self-contained story:

Someone is reincarnated as a villainess (type 4 - misunderstood because of superstition and lack of expressions) and follows a story to its conclusion... more>> where the demon lord is defeated, all the while working towards improving the image of the villainess.

And maybe it's not something that's particularly memorable, but it's a story that has a beginning, middle, and end. Meanwhile, I'm 19 chapters into the second novel and struggling to see what sort of story it's trying to tell. At best, it's moving towards a slower-paced slice-of-life diary (which, by itself, doesn't gel well when reading everything back-to-back), and at worst is subtly reducing what I liked about the characters bit-by-bit.

It doesn't feel like a story about Yumelia anymore, I guess. It feels like she's there as a gag character in someone else's story, which just makes me annoyed that this was the way someone chose to progress the characters.

TL;DR: Read the first volume if you like protagonists with dry wit, then save yourself the time and drop the rest. <<less

I think this is best treated as a Parody story. It tries to break most of the usual tropes of the generic otome isekai story, by basically using a game addict muscle head OP main character. Unlike most shoujo stories where the problem all relies on feelings and stuff, Yumelia is more like Dio going "RODOORORAA DA!" and punching her enemy though it.

About the main character, she is the villainess of a game otome game with RPG elements... And by that I mean grind, and so she wants to grind... more>> from a very young age, reaching Lvl 99 through what others would consider suicidal methods, however to herself, it's all normal and efficient.

Of course, the story of the game changes, but it's not about her being friendly with everyone while the heroine of the game faces the opposite, rather, with her overpower ability and her lack of common-sense, but still willing to help others, she causes more problems than originally necessary, although she also has the power to break all of them, this is also the reason for the subtitle "I'm not the Demon King but the Hidden Boss"

When I try to find similar characters, Mash Burnedead from the manga Mashle may be the closest I could find: Both are ultra strong, both lack common-sense but treat themselves as normal, both are good people, but all of their normal is completely out of the norm to everyone else, and both don't show their emotions in their face. It also reminds me of Vandalieu from Death Mage, as besides the expressionless face, both have a very weird sense of aesthetics.

About the plot... From the arc and a half currently translated, I don't know what to expect of the future. The game story ends by the end of the first arc, with a very surprising ending. The second arc seems to be more of an after story, but there is likely going to be a plot that hasn't been revealed yet. Checking the raws, it has been a long time since the epilogue of the 3rd arc was posted, and an extra chapter was posted some time after it... Maybe the story has ended already?

So, if you are in the mood for some non-sense comedy with a dumb protagonist that is prone to the wrong answer over her own lack of common sense, this is a good read. <<less

This is quite a fun and light-hearted read!

If you are looking for a deep and realistic otome-game noble villainess novel to read, this is not a dark and serious novel. It focuses more on the comedy aspects of the dense but adorable MC, who is really OP and doesn't really seem to care about being a noble or wanting to do anything with the noble life.

The characters aren't particularly deep, in fact, a lot of the supporting (especially the otome game heroine and love interests) characters kind of seem... more>> like 'cliche-ly' terrible human beings who don't ever use their brains for anything. But the story isn't so focused on the characters of Level 99 Villainous Daughter.

Instead, it focuses on our overpowered MC who is a goes-with-the-flow person. She's quite easy-going and tries to enjoy her life as the villainess, even with all of the discrimination against her.

But all in all, it's sort of a light-hearted noble 'slice of life' story in an otome game setting. Where our MC uses her knowledge of the game and her strength to defeat powerful monsters, make friends, and overcome some humorous situations. <<less

the story lost its meaning when the saint kicked the bucket too early along with the other love interests. I mean, she wont be a villainess if there is no heroine. The title of the story became meaningless. And I thought this would remain a light story but I changed my mind after volume 1 ended.

i started reading the manga first. It was okay. But for some reason I don't enjoy the novel as much. I suspect the translation. This is subjective but my enjoyment in reading these novels depends heavily on the quality of the translations.

its readable, sure, but to read this I had to mentally make corrections to understand. The most confusing ones are when they suddenly switch from first person perspective to third person in the middle the chapter; which makes me convinced this is machine translated. The story is very bland and dropped off majorly after the demon king arc. It also seems like that the author doesn't know how to write long arcs. If a big bad evil character is introduced, they make them disappear just as fast. There is no time to build tension or suspense. Everything is literally *bing bong monster dead". I do like the gremlin-like protag so I can't find it in my heart to give this a terrible rating. Middle it is.

Daria USA TV show from the 90s is one of my favorite shows. This has an extreme Daira, adams family weds feel but more meat head. She has one goal get stronger which isn't bad. Kinda like a level junky. Just someone who cares deeply but in their own way and out of step with the world around them. The struggled to socialize and being out of step with the world is portrayed really well. I've never been a fan of otome villains books where she basically becomes the saintes... more>> blah blah blah. But this one is so good and not about that. I wish for a slightly slower pacing and a bit more world stuff going on. Just enjoying it. Well done
The denseness gets annoying in later chapters. But it's not full awful.

The one thing I wish she did was gain "skill" craft instead of just being level base strength. Yes, it works but as she says herself it's kinda ugly. <<less

The MC is OP, so author added denseness to her character as a gap moe, in a way the novel is very cliche, the main story is also very rushed, only the slice of life part is a bit more detailed. The comedy may get boring after a while since it's pretty much the same type of comedy, which sucks since that's the only appeal this novel has

The first volume was very enjoyable, I enjoyed her antics, she's smart but very dumb/dense at the same time. But I didn't enjoy... more>> volume 2 as much.

Spoiler

ever since she got engaged with Patrick, he got involved more and more with her life, and he would always put a stop on her dumb antics, which is very vexing. There's also more romance and slice of life which I don't particularly enjoy, it pretty much made me lose interest in reading. I find Patrick to be very annoying sometimes because he always chastised Yumelia everytime she did one of her dumb antics, or stopped her from doing anything reckless like wanting to buy a large demon flute, she often used demon flute all the time to level up but now that Patrick is around, she wasn't allowed to do that anymore. The author probably wanted to make Patrick the straight character that keeps her in check and love and protect her, but I can't help but think that his actions of protecting her is selfish since she's not allowed to do what she enjoyed.

just skip it, its pointless, its just a waste of time

all the novel is about MC and how she interact with people-magic-material, how her common sense is non existant (I read bunch of supposed "no common sense" stories, this one makes them look like a joke) and how people around her looks intelligent before it gets revealed that they have a hopeless side of them that makes them s*upid as well

thats it, MC being the most weird one, we get to see people trying their best hopelessly (hopelesness can be because of the situation or because of the character itself, which makes us able to see 2 different comedy stories) while MC saws things differently and does something s*upid in a hilarious way, and make me laugh non stop while reading the chapter and get weekly dose of laughter

and I love this s*upid comedy, I laughed every chapter, and it get better and better <<less

  1. Plot driven story basically concludes in volume 1 -Story doesn't feel like it's going in any direction past that.
  2. Manga got me interested in this story. Volume 1 was okay. Very little appeal in continuing to read after catching up. Might be best to put this on hold and wait if the story goes anywhere.
