He did not mind the punishment at all. He just needed a spot that could allow him to be a shut-in. With the system that would allow him to grow stronger by being a shut-in, the longer he stayed indoors, the more powerful he became.

After being a shut-in for a day, he was rewarded with the Indestructible Body Technique.

After being a shut-in for a month, he was rewarded with the Immovable Mountain Technique.

After being a shut-in for a year, he was rewarded with the Yuxu Celestial Scripture and 100 years of cultivation.

After being a shut-in for 10 years, he was rewarded with the Chaotic Indestructible Body and the Bell of Chaos.

Chu Xuan declared, “No one can make me leave my home. I like being a shut-in!”

The story sticks to its premise and title. For most of the series, the MC just stays at home growing ever more powerful the longer he does so. A few novels also claim to have MCs who are also hidden or static grandmasters and shopkeepers, but they almost always end up being like any other cultivation novel -- with the novel showing more of them out there doing sh*t instead of nestled in their base.

As boring as it may first seem - an MC stuck just at home - it... more>> actually isn't. While he is supposed to remain secluded, he gets bonus rewards for manipulating global and cosmic events through his disciples, followers and his own long-distance methods. He becomes a real hand behind the curtain.

It's a really fun change of pace from the usual MCs we get in cultivation and system webnovels. <<less

Entertaining novel, better than your average system popcorn novel. Novel is fast paced and a lot of stuff happen in those 817 chapters. There are also a lot of moments where you will die laughing, it's very entertaining. The plot is very simple : The MC sneezed so he got exiled to an abandoned manor, he then remains there for the 90% of the series or well the 100 years, he then schemes a lot and eventually gets disciples and powerful items/techniques, he also acts tough in front of bigshots... more>> pretending to be a senior etc.
Spoiler

Achieves lots of feats, like creating new races, killing unkillable enemies, a new dao system, creating the heavenly dao, etc.

Solid novel, definitely worth reading. <<less

Pretty solid story. It's been a while since I managed to finish a work from WebNovel.

Very relaxing and stays true to the idle background introduced at the beginning. The MC doesn't leave his courtyard, probably doesn't even budge from that chair of his, for hundreds of chapters. It's quite satisfying seeing him implement plans from the safety of a very normal family courtyard, slapping faces whenever someone stumbles across him with bad intentions. My favorite parts were probably of the disciples actually, would always look forward to whenever the MC... more>> would manage to reel in a new disciple.

MC bluffs but unlike in other stories like Library of Heaven's Path the system backs him up so I never felt like he was treading on a thin line of getting exposed and killed. Author actually leads up to the ending for dozens of chapters so it wasn't as abrupt as in 99% of WN works. Quite enjoyable. <<less

It’s a very light hearted story about a system that makes you a shut in.

MC never had any trouble or opponents that come back like a roach.

This is essentially just a slice of life. There’s barely any action related to the MC. He was never in danger since he was always hidden.

It’s fun to read just to pass time.

This is a fun story for those who want a casual read. The story is very true to its premise: the MC spends 100 years inside his pavilion, cultivating himself and relaxing. And when he comes out, he's invincible. Then he goes into seclusion again, this time for much longer, and again he comes out of seclusion invincibly.

I would have liked the story to focus more on the disciples and some of the secondary characters. Not that there isn't a focus on them, but the arcs focused on them are... more>> very short and quick.

Don't read it if you don't like manipulative MCs. There's no romance. Don't expect deep, well-developed characters. <<less

Overall: 2/5
Spoiler

Some things I dont particularly like about this story is the fact that the ending was so abrupt. There was potential to flesh out the characters and really make them stand out from each other but nope. Ended with a, "and finally this happened"

Disappointed but then again the middle section of the novel felt like author was losing motivation and wrote to just write. They started getting lazy on the dialogue, putting massive time skips every chapter, and making MC's disciples the one to drive the plot forward instead of MC himself.

The plot is generic, a f*ckton of faceslaps here and there with misunderstandings. Characters appearing every now and then eventually fading into irrelevance. Mc's own disciples and subordinates feel like every other character, flat with no distinct personality. Even the ones that did eventually faded into the background and became flat as well (Mo tu, Ji, Chu E, etc.). Honestly, the only difference I see in this novel to every other op protagonist novel is the fact that MC has no other motivation to get stronger other than the possibility that his lies will be exposed.

Also no romance but there is a one sided love between Mc's maidservant and him. I dont really think this will affect your reading experience though because it's only mentioned a couple times in the last few hundred chapters.

The few things I feel that this novel had done well with were the misunderstandings and face slaps. The misunderstandings didn't feel very forced because MC had equipment that were realms stronger than his actual strength that could be used to prove his claims. I emphasize could because he also could have been easily fact checked if they (anyone other than Mc) just asked around or explored a bit more. The face slaps were quite entertaining. I guess one of the reasons why is because I personally enjoy them a lot and because it's done in such an absurd and cheeky manner that it makes them almost hilarious to watch.

MC feels a bit mysterious, even to me, a reader. We dont know anything of his previous life nor do we know where the system comes from or even why he even transmigrated. We get absolutely no glipse into his past life, no name, no family, no reason how he transmigrated, no nothing. The only reason I even remember that he's a transmigrator is because he mentioned that Miss Hei would put capitalists to shame with her brutality. He feels more like a person with knowledge of earth rather than a person from earth. As for the system, it feels too mysterious. It just suddenly popped up and made him super Op (without consent). Then, by the end of the novel MC just suddenly becomes system's master??? Why?

[collapse]

4/5 if you're looking for something to pass time though. It's a good time burner and very recommended if you dont wannna use your brain cells.

The title and summary both are on point. Chu Xuan (MC) transmigrates and receives a sign in type system, which rewards him the more he stays shut in. The only time he truly leaves is when he was absolutely Invincible.

Worldbuilding,
As always with Xianxia, a very very big world. Also the usual there is a bigger world out there also happened several times. Although since MC is a shut in, we don't see many places from his perspective. So, not much in case of unique and memorable locations.

MC and Side Characters,
Great. MC is Ok. He is fun but uninteresting at the same time, everything he has comes from the System. Although it is shown that he cultivates as well, but without the system that would be meaningless. The side character leads the show here. Lots of awesome side characters in this, especially the desciples.

Cultivation System,
Very generic. Although all Cultivation levels are explained in detailed with amazing descriptions of their own. But, in an actual fight it all comes down to stronger Cultivation guy is stronger in every way. I like Cultivation system, where higher level are more then just an increase in strength. This novel shows that sometimes, like with the Emperor realm, but then it goes back to being generic.

About the Plot and Ending,
There is no overarching plot. Although we have a final boss at the end, even he only comes in the last 100 chapters. Other than that, it's MC becoming stronger, his Desciples revenge and them becoming stronger, and other people reacting to changes MC brings to the world.
The ending however is quite rushed and lame, but I don't think there was another way to end it. MC was too strong at the end, dragging it will only make it worse.

In summary,
A good light hearted novel of a fun MC and OP System. You should try it if you are looking for a casual read.

Wow! I really enjoyed this novel.

The premise was interesting and the touches of comedy throughout were good.

In the start the main character keeps having various people try and mess with him. He deals with each lot easily, but seriously wonders what is wrong with all these people who basically just seem to turn up to be instantly defeated.[/spoiler] His thoughts completely reflected my own which just added to my enjoyment.

If you like a novel where the MC goes on lots of adventures etc. This novel is not it. However, he... more>> takes in lots of disciples and they do all of the normal 'levelling up' kind of things. Even thought the MC was just sitting at home, the novel still contained all the common elements of Xianxia and provided the satisfaction of watching characters grow.

There were lots of characters, and sometimes it was hard to remember who was who, but unlike other novels the author didn't forget about them. Even in the last hundred or so chapters where the stage had moved elsewhere, the focus still returned to them, although only for brief glimpses.

I felt that the author stayed true to the character of the MC for the whole novel. Although he was basically overpowered (in a way) from the start, I liked that he was never arrogant - although no matter how old he got he still liked to show off.

The thing I really enjoyed was that the MC had no romantic relationships. I enjoy romance, but too often in this style of novel romance is either really badly written and not very believable, or it turns into a harem, which is a pet hate. Other characters had relationships, although there was not any detail. (Ancestor Chu and the MC's dad, I'm looking at you!)

Finally, the version I read was very well translated. It wasn't until the very final chapters that things (pronouns mistly) deteriorated a bit.

Reading this novel has fulfilled my wish to read a good Xianxia novel that ticks most, if not all, of my preferences. And it's a completed translation!! Highly recommend!! <<less

Great read. One of the best novel for change of pace.

The series is very unique and stays true to the concept of the story.
Spoiler

Though there are no romance plot involving MC until the end, it didn't affect the quality of the story.

Overall, this is a good series to read for change of pace especially after reading some cliché novel where the MC is always on the run and always in danger and breakthrough in verge of death. The MC here is just chilling, staying at home, and becoming invincible by doing so.

Fun and relaxing story about a system for shut-in MC.

Author stopped before it became another rinse and repeat story :)

I would have liked to see more emotion/love/attachment in MC's own personal zone/relationship, but it wasn't that bad without it.

Anyway it was a fun read just to pass time.
