Good story. Good concept.

MC is low-key and op. The world building is good and the ending is also conclusive.

The romance part needed more work. It's good enough for a normal relationship but not good enough for a harem.

Overall an enjoyable read.

It's not the best, but I was able to finish it. There was only one instance of the dreaded Chinese nationalism or whatever it's called. The translation was mostly ok, I've read way worse. The beginning was fun, there were some thought provoking parts scattered throughout. Overall a nice 3.5 for me. I still recommend it.

Wasted potential.

The chapters before the immortal world was introduced were amazing, you had fun interactions/moments, cultivation, MC showing off his skills from time to time, a little bit of world building, interesting/fun characters, hype about what would happen once he became 1000-year old.

But the immortal world got introduced everything took a nosedive.

... more>> Fights? Barely any at all, interactions? Does him kicking Dao Comprehension out of his cave everytime he's about to breakthrough enough?

What about him cutting ties with the sect and now trying to get rid of the girls around him? Sigh.. World building? The author decided to downgrade the novel and make it a spinoff of journey to the west, hype about his 1000 year achievement? Killed off, he's still sitting in his cave like a p**sy, novel should be renamed to "Secretly Cultivating for Thousands of Years", probably will go in the millions of years because the author won't stop adding more cultivation realms and more stages between them.

So the current state of the novel is: no world building because the novel became a spinoff, almost no interactions or fights because the MC barely comes out of his cave and cultivation doesn't really matter because the MC is thousand years behind his daddy, the heavenly emperor.

Oh by the way, did I mention how the author also pulled a "everything the MC did was a plan from X all along?" yeah.. The novel right now is completely soulless. <<less

A very good Novel. A well deserved break from all the typical Chinese face slapping and young master nonsense. I loved this novel as it fulfilled one of my wet dreams. A talented cultivator with high E.Q and I.Q who possesses a good interactive system and quietly practises and reaches the apex. Highly recommend this.

This novel is truly unique. MC is low-key and patient with a bright mind who knows how to handle a situation. By the way MC isn't a pu*sy and takes action when necessary. Highly recommended... for fellow readers who are Bored your everyday of face slapping, arrogant young masters, mc's who can't live a day without offending someone new....

This is a cultivation story. From what I know, cultivation is basically staying put and absorbing shits and comprehending shits and living a long life and that's what the MC is doing most of the time. Harem? -Not the focus. Battles? -Usually one-sided if the MC appear. Travel the world? -How can he cultivate if he travel then?

There is a lot of time skips when the MC cultivates. At first a few years at a time (then 100+ then 1k+). MC is OP, its a system novel so that's what... more>> you should expect, but it's not as exaggerate as some novels with a 20year old MC smacking the sh*t out of a 100-year old "young" master of a clan, then offending the 1000-year old father of the "young" master which is actually a Patriarch of a Super Mega Strong Clan. Then actually slapping the sh*t out of him as well.

MC is cautious and rarely attacks (specially in the early hundred chapters) because his mentality is "cultivate until I can one shot (or at least make a short work of) the baddies"

MC didn't suffer any grievance and injustice because as stated above, he is mostly just minding his business and cultivating. Which is fine for me coz I think it is not necessary for the MC to suffer to be stronger, just cultivate!

MC will appear to be cold-hearted because even when he knows that his friends (and acquaintances) are in trouble he won't show up to help but it's only because he knows that he is in those novels with plot-armors and knows that most of his friends are MC-material (hot-blooded ones and super lucky ones, etc.) so he knows that they won't die (or will revive) no matter what.

Some people would hate or be bored by this because mainstream CN novels are all about slapping faces and getting b*tches. This is more of a slice of life novel. So I advise to read up to maybe ch30 and decide if you wanna continue.

tl;dr: if you are tired of masochistic MCs (pain and gain), arrogant MCs, bullied then turn psychopathic bully themselves MCs and brain in the d*ck MCs. Then give this novel a try. <<less

Are you tired of reading cultivation novels whereby the MC goes around provoking clans and sects that have experts that have hundreds of years of experience that can kill him with a fart but he still somehow manages to kill them because of some sh*tty profound reason? Do you want to try reading a cultivation novel that is actually written by a mature author for a mature audience, where the MC does not needlesly provoke others and does not also fall for provocations himself? My friend give this novel a... more>> go, you will not regret reading it..

the only downside to this novel is that after reading it, you will find that your standard has increased and those other nonsensical overrated novels will no longer satisfy you

I'm not sure why, but it seems like a lot of webnovel MCs just become more and more of an unbearable self-righteous hypocrite as time goes on.

He started off as a pretty calm guy. Then once he gets his book of curses, he just goes "oh, you hate me? I'm going to curse you to death. Feels good."

Then he goes off the deep end and becomes an arrogant young master. Suddenly attacking someone in the middle of a peace negotiation and goes "how dare you fight back. I knew you... more>> were up to no good". <<less

The typical novel where the system gives everything to the MC.

I didn't like the MC, mainly because he seemed to be a mirror of the author's opinions.

And I got bored reading the story.

And it's just a bunch of time skips and the system giving things away for every little achievement the MC does.

So... 2 stars

The MC is also not your typical reincarnated from 21st-century earth. He died at a young age that's why he wanted to pursue immortality, even he thinks women are a hindrance to his road to immortality. Don't worry he cares about the women he thought important to him.

What I like more about this novel is the speed of cultivation which makes more sense than others. The cultivator here in this novel needed years to breakthrough in levels of the realm which also happen in some novels but in some novels, the MC can breakthrough to the major realm in a few days but here the MC even with his cheat still takes years.

Ps. I'm not good at explaining so sorry

Edit: This novel still good hope you read it

  • "Cultivate diligently and show off when you are invincible to all"

This novel's a hit or miss. The MC went on an extreme route of 'staying-low key', and this ensures that he'll do his best to stay far, far away from anything too explosive or dangerous. The result is a laid-back slice-of-life novel about the MC staying quiet and growing stronger with like-minded companions while watching the world flow by. At certain turning points, he may be forced to take action, move house or plan for the future in face of huge waves in the world, but he'll do his best... more>> to avoid such things.

To me, this format hit directly in my sweet spot - I absolutely loved it. The hot-blooded death-seeking MCs get boring after reading too many similar novels, and this protagonist is a relaxing breath of fresh air. A more peaceful, low-stress cultivation novel of this type is a great way to relax.

Plot: This protagonist is in an extremely passive state, constantly cultivating while staying away from trouble (for the most part). I'd compare the plot to a boat floating in a sea. It quietly and happily floats there, but reacts to incoming waves as necessary to stay afloat. The MC is the boat captain, and as arcs go by, like-minded characters will slowly gather around the MC to form a faction in his boat, flowing through the tides of passing time. Most of the entertainment comes from how the characters age, interact, change and grow.

Romance: The MC dedicated most of his heart and interest to the pursuit of eternity, so he basically lacks the ability to fall too deeply in love. He eventually accepts a few women as dao companions though, and while he's not the type to put his life on the line to protect them, he does take care of them if he can. Watching their relationships change/deepen as decades, centuries, millennia and eras flash by is quite refreshing. In later chapters as children begin to appear, the spread and growth of the descendants will also add interesting plotlines.

Characters: Quite a few characters will be introduced and fleshed out. Some will fade away, while some will hold steady through time to develop as major side characters. The author does not tolerate cliches in general, and gives each side character their own plotlines, which intersect in various ways, some expected, some not. The MC's system has a special function of tracking those who hold positive or negative emotions towards him, allowing him (and readers) to follow these various plotlines while staying quietly at home.

Cultivation: Cultivation can't be called the main focus of this novel. The MC's system is the most generous I've ever seen. It completely removes any need for the MC to go out to struggle for good fortune, since it spoon-feeds him everything he needs to get to the top, and even provides various other convenient features that'll slowly unlock. He's doomed to reach the absolute peak as long as he doesn't die. The system removes most of the cultivation-related worries, and allows the novel to focus on other things, like the evolution of the relationships between characters. <<less

It was a pretty interesting concept but was HORRIBLY executed. There are so many things that make this novel annoying to read but here are the main ones:

    1. Turtle MC
MC spends basically 99% of the novel in his little cultivation cave on his mountain. It's just "X years have passed, MC is at X realm. He checks his system emails about the people he's friendly with (what happened to them over the years and they're always somehow critically injured or nearly dead), curses his strongest enemies that want to kill him by (using a treasure he got from the system) and then goes back to cultivating". It's honestly so bland. I get the idea of an MC who prefers to hide and get stronger before killing enemies that were stronger than him but this dude just doesn't leave. I usually hate the s*upid MCs that charge into battle with no plan and somehow win through plot armor but that's still better than this MC who sits on his ass all day just cultivating for no reason other than a long lifespan.

2. COWARD MC

There's literally no other way to put it... Despite being WAY overpowered, MC is a straight up coward. Not Cautious. A COWARD. Ever since he got a system feature that allows him to simulate fights against people, he refuses to even consider getting into a fight with someone he cant one shot. I have literally read sentences like "MC began the simulation, it took him 3 shots to kill X person so it's still too early to fight him".

3. Copy Paste Plot

Aside from 70% of every chapter's word count being the exact same by telling us about the MC who is probably still sitting in his cave, the rest is spent explaining the plans of some generic bad guy that is way stronger than the supporting cast who we only remember the cause of the emails. They have some weird plan that eventually leads to them coming to the MC's sect and being one shot by him. This basically means that the last 30 % is useless too since you'll probably know what's gonna happen to them the second they hear about the MCs sect. So if 70% is the same every chapter and the last 30% is predictable, you'll find yourself brainlessly scrolling instead of reading for most of these pathetic excuses that the author calls chapters.

TL;DR if you have ANY respect for your time and your brain cells... Read something else.

I mtled this upto chapter 900. What I liked bout this is that the characters he met in the mortal world is still relevent. Some of them died, but they will be resurrected in the later chapter. What I like in this novel is that, the world is not white and black, some villains becomes MC's friends, and some of MC's friends become villains. But they all have reasons why they change. Some of his disciples even go in a crooked way, blinded by power.

I also like how harem was... more>> done in this novel. I'm gay myself so I hate harem very very much. But the harem here was done beautifully so it's okey I guess. The MC actually has reached the point of not being bounded by mortal desires, so he does not force the woman to be his dao companion. And the womens here is so also not someone who will go head over heels over MC, I mean chapter 900, and the MC's master is still cold, indifferent, even thou MC have become so much powerful, the MC's master still not have thoughts on being a dao companion on MC. <<less

If you liked MC that focused the most on growing his power as much as the time allowed him to, so that he can be stronger and grow faster then other people also a very damn cautious MC. Then I would recommend reading this novel.

This MC here can getting stronger and stronger by cultivating (even without pills) so he chose to become a shut-in for unit he thinks that he is the strongest or no one can kill him anymore (in the world he stay in or maybe other... more>> include higher worlds too (?))

The only thing that's makes some people dislike this novel is that because MC is too cautious that it's make him looked like a coward at some points (he always thinking of running away first and hides himself from troubles and if he can't running away than he...)
) MC will helps people if he have the ability to do so but only after he makes sure that he can do it smoothly.
MC value his life the most because of his past life experiences that make him wanted to live forever.
MC's quote:
What he wanted was not destruction, but the ability to do so. Only absolute invincibility could truly allow one to live forever!
If you're a fan of Anime 'Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious' than you will likes this novel because it's giving of similar vibes but in Cultivation version (if the enemy is too strong he would chose to run away and train hard to beat them later). His life is the most important because if he died who is going to beat the enemies vibes.

It's a lot of Comedy

Comedy with a really low-key protagonist.

Like a truly determined hikikomori cultivator who decided to lay low during his pursuit of immortality in order to avoid all possible dangers and cliché situations, MC wouldn't go out until the sky is about to collapse above his home.

Your acquaintance was attacked by demonic cultivators?

... more>> Your friend visited a forbidden land and is now trapped inside?

Your disciple was captured by a demonic sect?

Your sect master was heavily injured and is now trying to escape pursuit?

And they all need help?

Never mind. It wouldn't be too late to save them after cultivating for another 10 to 20 years in order to improve your strength and be safe for sure! They have great destiny and nothing is going to happen to them even without you!

Though it sounds heartless, but it's described in really hilarious ways in this novel.

I don't know if things will change in the future, but at ch60 it's a solid 5/5. <<less

This one is easily one of the most overrated novels on this website.

The MC relies entirely upon the 'system' (lazy-ass plot armor) and neglects everyone around him in his pursuit of longevity, which he only desires because he's a coward. Seriously, the guy will not make a move unless he's absolutely sure he's far stronger than the antagonists, which is conveniently done through the system. The 'system' actively rewards him for acting like a chicken. This basically boiled down to the exact same formula repeated over and over. "I decided... more>> not to do anything and just cultivated instead." The author introduces events just so the MC can say "I'm not going, I'm just going to cultivate instead." When the system finally shoehorns the MC into doing something, it's resolved quickly and we go right back to chapter after chapter where the only thing the MC does is cultivate. Over and over, a completely one-dimensional side character will pop in to tell us all how attractive the MC is, how he doesn't care at all about them, and how he just wants to be left alone so he can cultivate to live longer. Ironically, this guy's life of shutting himself in and cultivating is as exciting as watching paint dry so it makes utterly no sense that he is pursuing longevity so doggedly. So here we have a novel that barely has any plot whatsoever, no world building, close to literally zero character interactions, no character development, no tension, a one-dimensional cast including the MC, constant time skips, and yet this novel is sitting at over a 4/5 rating. What an utter joke. It's hilarious that people are coming to the xianxia genre and applauding a novel like this and it's really s*upid how people are giving it high ratings just because the 'MC iS dIfFeReNt.' As if having a grass-fed beta-male protagonist (in a xianxia!?) is a plus just because it's outside of the norm for the genre. Japanese light novels have plenty of those if that's what you want. <<less

love it. Even though the MC is a hermit, he kept getting stronger. The interesting part is how the author express mc's feelings and reason of action. Terrible story with no substance. The plot is about what happens when a utterly boring and timid person is given overpowered cheats. The MC has no desire for anything except cultivation, and sits in his cave for years. He has no personality or desires, except that he doesn't want to die. Each chapter is just "5 years passed. MC reached realm B. Character A did this. Character B did that."

There's no worldbuilding to speak of, because the MC is always in his cave. There's some sort of generic demon sects... more>> and some generic righteous sects. MC never needs to risk his life for resource or gear, because his system gives him peerless cultivation talent as well as priceless equipment. The system is also able to fully analyze his enemies without him even meeting them, and even simulate battles with them. Every situation the MC actually fights in ends anti-climatically, as the mob enemy is one-shotted.

The character interactions could not be more shallow. Each harem member falls in love with the MC because of his peerless good looks that his system gave. There's no chemistry between the MC or any of the harem members. They neither overcome tough situations together, nor do they have cute or romantic moments together. There's just.. Nothing. Still, they give all their treasures to the MC because of his good looks. None of the characters are interesting or endearing, and I felt like I couldn't care less as I read log events about what they did.

Overall, I'm kind of speechless at the rating. I feel that this novel was a cultivation novel that tried to be a slice of life novel. However, it didn't have any of the traits that would make a slice of life novel enjoyable to read. <<less

A very good shenhua novel.

This novel is based on mythology, so you will encounter the saints of buddhism, nvwa, Hao Tian (Heavenly Emperor) and others.

Our main character is reborn in the world of cultivation with a system.

... more>> Although he soon seems pretty powerful, his prudence is not misplaced and his encounters illustrate the truth of "there is always a higher mountain".

Can recommend this novel, especially if you enjoyed "My Senior Brother Is Too Steady".

Unlike the aforementioned, MC of this one is more ruthless, killing countless enemies without hesitation.

There is also a sect building aspect as the protagonist collects talented individuals as disciples, and soon establishes his own sect.

Although this novel has the Harem tag, the Harem is very subtle. Not much romance so far.

Definitely an enjoyable read! <<less

IGNORE EVERY NEGATIVE REVIEW FOR THIS NOVEL

My friend who is reading this, this here is the true meaning of cultivation. The MC of this novel actually cultivates!!!

This novel's MC knows his simple goal. But his determination is what stands out. He is willing to be a skeptic than to be betrayed. He is willing to sacrifice for his simple dream. His character isn't complex. It makes understanding his character easier. I know I can trust his decision.
