MC lives in a Hunter/Gate world, processing monster parts while dreaming of being a hunter. He awakens with an EX-ranked class, and while he decides to hide his true abilities until he's strong enough to not get taken advantage of, he now gets to live his hunter dreams. Story isn't anything new, but it's good. 5/5 for me so far because I have a hunter/gate addiction and this satiated me.

MC isn't a genius but he also isn't s*upid, he makes mistakes but he's insightful, and he isn't a saint but... more>> he isn't apathetic to others. While he's knowledgeable he lacks experience at the beginning, so while he impresses others with his confidence and knowing monsters' weaknesses he's obviously acts like a greenhorn. His ability doesn't give him a super power-up from the start and he has to work to get stronger. In a genre where protagonists are usually super-geniuses and quickly reach OP status, and characterized as either all-caring heroes or needlessly cruel villains, MC is just a normal guy and that makes him refreshing.

Some random interesting details - hunters don't get an Inventory so people have to lug all their stuff around in bags. MC wearing his gear while going out in public and not carrying it in a case and putting it on at the gate is one of the things he does that shows he's obviously a new hunter. Much like in real life, MC's experience processing monster carcasses both makes him used to facing monsters and makes him knowledgeable about the anatomy he's trying to stab. Little details like these keep the story more grounded.

Some people will probably find this boring but I think it's enjoyable. If you need another hunter/gate novel, try this one. <<less
