Lin Xuan stumbled upon a divination system by chance. The accuracy rate of the divinations was 100%, capable of bringing good fortune and averting disasters, saving people from perilous situations. Such a divine tool, however, had a fatal weakness: each divination came with a price tag of ten dollars. Her delusion of becoming wealthy and reaching the pinnacle of life was shattered right at the beginning.

Lin Xuan diligently went about her work, occasionally earning some pocket money through divinations and occasionally drawing strange and useless items from the system’s store.

Crab is a bit old style imo. Great at writing but the preferences are old popular types of cliches: fat shaming, anti Japan sentiment (understandable but unnecessary), a plot controlled selective ditzyness from the MC, a savior ML (forgiveable bc everyone does it), and torturing the MC with bad situations that could be seen as comedy if it's your preference.

Although I like the ML and I like the MC, the hand of plot is very obviously written (not even mentioning the system crutch for plot movement) when crab explicitly makes... more>> the MC selectively dumb. This is the formula: someone will remind her of sn attribute she has (bad luck) or she will remind herself not to do that one thing, but then she will consistently "end up" or choose to do that thing with little thought until she's f*cked up and is in trouble for the ML to help her. And it happens again and again. Ok it's like does she just not use her brain when crab doesn't want her to?? Ex:

    • She knows she has -99 luck and still chooses the lottery option for the shopping mall until she's poor (again bc the author loves her miserable)... It's like girl. What do you think a raffle / lottery is based on??? Luck. Omg crab why is she dim??
    • She gets warned if she involved herself in the other's unfortunate events, it will end up directed at her bc of her bad luck and she still forgets it when she helps the girl escape s*xual assault. Ofc this is for her to meet the ml.
    • She will literally tell herself she shouldn't go outside the bathroom but then she goes outside to get caught w the voodoo master
    • Not to mention her, the world is quite selectively dumb. She asks for help in the group for the gu cases but no one really has a solution to save her roommates until she decides to take all the love gu to save them. Then the gov group has options that are silly and embarrassing while also charging for help to assist barely even tho they are a gov agency to help combat the supernatural.... Make it make sense.
      I know you want to overtly torture the MC crab but stop making it so dumb and obvious imo.
    • I don't enjoy knowing the intelligence level of either other ppl or the MC will deliberately drop any time the author has the chance to cause suffering for the MC....!!!

Is it entertaining to read (although the formula gets predictable) ? Yes! Will most ppl still enjoy this? Probably. It's a shame bc I really like the ML so far and even the MC when she's isn't selectively ditzy. <<less

I have mixed feelings for this. It started off great. I loved the FL and ML. The comedy was really good too. But I totally agree with Shortk review. The FL is shown to be really scared of all the problems but she just goes everywhere to save everyone and finds herself in trouble all the time and the ML has to fish her out of it. This was kind of funny in the beginning but I got a little annoyed by the end. There was also NO romance at... more>> all. I was expecting at least a little bit may be even towards the end but no, there is no romance in this. One other problem is also that they have stretched out too much, I wish they had ended the novel at around 80 to 100 chapters. They have unnecessarily added some useless arcs just to make up some chapters. I skipped most of the chapters towards the end and it dint make any difference to the story. I have read all other novels of this author and loved them all, I would say this was one of her lesser works.

As I said I loved it in the beginning but I got really bored by the end. My suggestion would be to read around 70 to 80 chapters and to read my spoilers below and finish it and I can promise you, you wouldn't have missed out on anything.

Ending and main story content

Main concept - There are two worlds. One is earth and the other a cultivation world. The cultivation world will be destroyed and trying to rebuild itself. The spaces which pop up are actually real places from the cultivation world and the people who live there are also real and alive. The people from cultivation world will be trying to revive their world by using the energy of the earth.

MLs mother is from the cultivation world, she gives birth to the ML in one such space and he is brought to the earth and grows up here. Apparently the ML is also the key to revive the cultivation world. The FLs system is someone from the cultivation world, more like his soul is from there. All the items that FL gets are from the cultivation world.

Long story short, all villains are killed and they collect all the disastrous props and save the world. There is too much useless crap for me to go into details so I wont explain all that. It basically a cycle of fighting with villains - seems like you are losing - but wins in the end by some kind of miracle.

Romance - the last few lines of the last chapter of the novel. The ML would have sealed one of the props inside himself and will be dying when the cultivation world revives so the FL plans to marry him and share her system benefits with him so that he will be saved. After the ML is saved he accepts the marriage. That is all. Its no where mentioned that the FL and ML like each other too. The ML will be a very responsible person so he takes care of her really well since the beginning. But he would be doing this to all so nothing much to look into it here too.

No confession, no feelings, nothing except the FL drooling sometimes over the ML looks. (The FL is also a typical chinese novel FL who likes ML and has no problems with drooling over his looks and imagining stuff but when the ML actually does something then its totally not acceptable). Finally after all the fuss when the ML holds her hand the FL is also super uncomfortable with it as she feels the ML is very close. She totally forgets about all the previous times when they hug each other while flying and the FL also kisses him once. She was fine all those times but apparently when the ML holds her hand that's not ok at all.

Grumpy Crab has blessed us all with yet another romance entwined fantasy novel and I'm obsessed!

I love our ML so much and I think a lot of it just has to do with the fact that he's truly a good guy. Although he's a high level superpower user, he's not cold or indifferent to the suffering of others, nor does he look down on ordinary people. Rather, he uses his powers to help others even at the cost of his own life. When he first meets the MC, he helps... more>> her out in various ways, not because he's immediately interested in her romantically, but because he understands that it must be hard for her to deal with being (what he believes) a late blooming superpower user. He appreciates the MC's optimism and listens to her ideas even he doesn't completely get her reasoning. He's protective without being overbearing.

I melted when he secretly endured the pain of the car accidents for the MC's behalf because he didn't want to see her hurt.

Compared to him, our FL took a little longer for me to like but once we saw more sides of her, I grew to care for her. She's fearful of poverty and death and doesn't want to be dragged into these crazy supernatural schemes; however, because of her terrible luck, she's always pulled into something dangerous. Despite this she always tries her best to make the best of terrible situations. She stands back when she knows she can't help and she lends a hand when she knows she can be of use. It's also hilarious that her system is always trying to troll her for points and gives her the funniest and most bizarre props to use. My favorite prop is definitely Mencius' ruler lol.

I quite liked the other guys in their team as well. I wished they were present more in the story because their skills and personalities are interesting. I'm hoping that the author starts writing the spinoff with the curse master soon.

One minor critique is that

the romance is very much a slow and subtle burn and our leads don't confirm their relationship until the last chapter. I did like how the author would show us that the two were attracted to each other without saying it but I wish we got more fluffy couple moments!

Overall, the characters are likeable, the world building is fairly solid, and the plot is quite interesting. <<less

This is such a fun read! At first I thought it was going to be like other fortune teller novels I've read- but it's more supernatural based than anything. The divination cheat is fun but there's also a lot of others with abilities. There's this whole organization/world and a lot of comedic, supernatural events that occur. I'm really adoring it. I definitely recommend trying it out!!

It's always a delight to find such a unique and interesting novel with a very well written plot. Especially if it has a FMC.

I love the MC. She is smart, funny and always finding herself muddling through a misadventure due to her very unlucky character. She is not OP and we can see her slowly but surely learning how to better use her powers and props.

The ML is pretty cool too. I like that even though there isn't much of a romantic undertone till the end of the novel, we... more>> can still sense the chemistry between them.

All the side characters has their own characteristics and even through they weren't given much if a spotlight, their personalities shone through.

As I mentioned earlier, the plot is very clearly written with a distinct main plot and funny and memorable side plots.

If I have to mention a bad part about the novel,

its maybe that I wish the MC was able to keep some of her original powers like divination at the end. Like the MC deserved more than meager tickets for literally helping to save the world at the end. For anyone who hasn't read the novel yet, dont worry she gains new powers at the end.

First of all thanks to the translator for bring us this story. I really enjoyed the first chapters because of the novelty of the plot, it reminded me of the movie Two men in black with all the agencies and parallels. Sadly the main plot wasn't interesting enough for me ... more>>

nor even the romance subplot, or the lack of it. I started reading searching for something with no romance at all or little because when authors focus only on romance on Chinese novels the lack of logical scenarios and interactions as well as the culture about it all (being too shy and then you have a wolf in bed..) it gives me the creeps. Unfortunately, neither the plot nor the romance holds up. There's absolutely no romance here and that's misleading since we have a ML who is used as the prospect future love interest when in the end their relationship is the same from beginning to end. I suggest we erase the romance tag XD <<less

Just there were not many villains and it was all about keeping Earth safe and reviving the other heavenly planet. The villain's death happened so suddenly that it took me a few chapters to accept it.

And the part where Fl's biggest fear is poverty is a very realistic way of living.

I love all the characters, I guess because the novel was short everything in it revolves around the protagonists. Overall it's a good read and I can recommend this novel to all the readers out there who are looking for something short and interesting. <<less

I actually really liked the FL. She gets into trouble all the time but she tries her best to get out. No romance though until like the very last few chapters or so. I love both the FL and ML. Wish there was more romance for them.
