Gu Zhuoyan and Zhuang Fanxin.

They met in their teenage years, two bright stars colliding in the night sky. They fell in love, and together they passed the happiest days of their lives. But all good things must come to an end, and they eventually broke up.

Time passed, and they lost contact. They grew up apart, each going their own way. But even though they were apart, they never forgot their first love.

One day, they met again by chance. They were both on blind dates, and they found themselves sitting across from each other. They were both surprised by how much they had changed. They were no longer the carefree teenagers they once were. They had grown up, and they had experienced the pain of loss and heartbreak.

But would they be able to go back to where they started from? Could they pick up where they left off, ten years later?

Only time would tell. But one thing was for sure: their story was far from over.

I started with the manhua before reading the novel. It's easy to forget the synopsis with how sweet their teenage days were. It was painful. I wish their parting didn't last for 10 years - but, I get it. That's what mental illness can do to you. It makes you feel so small, that even after all of his accomplishments Fanxin felt that he couldn't find Zhuoyan again until they were forced to meet again through some twist of fate. And I guess that's it, they're just fated for each... more>> other. It's obvious in how they never forget each other and were both readily available and willing to dive back into the affections once forgotten. The length of the novel didn't give enough time to focus more on the side characters, which is kinda sad. However, the main couple's story is so good, a perfect mix of sweetness and angst, that I can no longer complain. They love each other very much in their own ways that it's just so precious to behold. <<less

Epically charged emotional writing. From pure sweet saccharine candy floss that makes you so happy you want to cry happy tears to tearing at your soul pain and full blown sobbing. This is a beautiful story of boy whose parent sends him away after coming out publicly and falling for the boy next door. Story doesn’t move very much at the beginning as the author attempts to drown the reader in endless fluff bombs but then it picks up pace near the middle as we flash forward 10 years to... more>> an epic fast paced finale, full of drama and emotions. The flow and the shifting between different character’s perspectives is super smooth. Writing style shifts cleverly and reflects the shift in the character’s emotions. The Extra makes a very complete "happily ever after" ending for our two, beautiful! <<less

It's nearly 6 AM and I stayed up all night to binge the entire novel. Overall, I'd rate it 4.5 stars. I really love the youth part of the novel (maybe because I'm around their age myself) but the time skip into adults was very enjoyable too. Translation and writing style just hits you in all the right ways, and all the characters feel fleshed out and memorable. The way the two main characters orbited around each other before finally ending up together, both the first and the second time,... more>> was both beautiful and poignant. It's enough to make you ugly cry.

I do have a few complaints, however, hence the 4.5 rating.

Spoiler

I didn't really like how the last few chapters somehow turned into into total dog blood drama. It was frustrating because the change of pace was very jarring, and things descended into a direction I definitely did not expect nor particularly enjoyed. While the author did a good job tying these loose ends together with past events during the climax, it felt too overdramatic that it was almost ridiculous. Everything was just going too fast and then suddenly resolved just like that.

This was the most excruciatingly painful novel I have read in a while. I think the fact that that the angst was done in such a beautiful way was perfectly fitting.

Sometimes angst and face slapping becomes to overdone and underwhelmed the entire plot with its dramatic antics, but I genuinely think this was well done. It was both relatable and understanding in the way it was reacted to/handled.

I felt myself falling into the pain of their separation and reunion as well as the difficulties MC faced on his own. I... more>> don’t think there was anything that made me feel like it was overdramatized or unrealistic.

I loved the main side characters, they were fun to watch. I loved that little cinnamon roll of an MC Fanxin has my heart. I love him so much. I loved the ML to and I really loved how he wasn’t a carbon copy of the domineering ceo type that I’m so sick and tired of. He was capable of other emotions that went beyond his feelings for the MC. Even if he wasn’t the nicest or most loving to others, you can see his care for his family and friends and there wasn’t a blanket of “he’s so cold to everyone I never seen him smile” *eye roll*

anyway I say all that just to say, I really enjoyed this. The ache and pain I felt was terrible in the moment but after reading it, it made me feel like it was all beneficial and refreshing. I’m going to miss them all. <<less

I will admit that I was attracted by beautiful cover to read this gem. At first, I was hesitant to read this cuz it seems like a heartbreaking story (it was T.T) and nevertheless I read it.

Boy it was so good yet painful to read. The novel starts with two teenager boys who become neighbors and fell in love with each other. Their interactions with family, classmates and their personalities are shown.

As the summary shown, they broke up for certain reasons and they never meet each other for 10 years.... more>> If u know who initiates breakup first and why he did that, then check the below spoiler tag.

Spoiler

It was MC who initiates breakup first. As for the reason, his grandpa was sick and his family needs to go UK to take care of grandpa. So, his family moved out from the town and live in UK and MC continue studies in UK

[collapse]

And then, they meet again after 10 years. As they interact again and found that the other person already became totally different person. As for whatever they will be strangers or become close again, see for yourself :p

As for people who wanna know it's HE or BE check below spoiler tag.

Spoiler

It is HE.

[collapse]

Anyway, it's a really good slice of life novel and hope you guys will give a chance to this gem. Also kudos for translator for translating this novel. <<less

I didn't expect to cry but I did. The writing style is not excessively elaborate but also not dry. I also like the way I know what's happening in both MLs perspectives and I'm not left guessing what the other characters are thinking. I like how their love started adorably, developed beautifully and was challenged painfully. The character development felt so natural and I was pleasantly surprised because I thought this would be just another tsundere and sunshine pairing until the end. Boy I was so wrong.

Ah my heart!!!! I am so in love with this novel!♡ (.◜ω◝.) ♡ Another favorite of mine!

I love Gu Zhuoyan and Zhuang Fanxin! What a roller coaster ride, my heart hurts for the both of them! I cried and laughed with them. Their journey to healing is heart wrenching but I am so glad that this is a HE with lovely 2 extra chapters.

Special shoutout to Qi Nan, Pei Zhi, Wen Lin and GZ buddies! Their friends were all amazing. And yes, their families as well! yay! I love how... more>> everyone tries to support and understand their relationship and the whole situation.

I cried so much when the whole story unfolds regarding the 10 years separation specially ZF part, ugh! I am so glad that after the storm comes a new day for our lovely couple. They both deserve to be happy!

Overall this is highly recommended al though the translation is... oh well! It's still okay, it's not too bad. So don't hesitate and read just ignore some of the translation mistakes! *wink* 。◕‿◕。 <<less

This novel is so good, so meaningful that I am kinda speechless right now. I just finished it and don't really have the capability of expressing my true honest feelings as of yet... All I can say is: everything is perfect, not one thing is lacking so if you feel not quite sure yet, I will give you the final push.

I just want to reiterate asterdust's comment: This is an achingly beautiful story.

Definitely on my top10. I just wished there were atleast 2 extras just to see their everyday life after marriage and see fan xin truly healed from all the things he experienced. Personally, im already satisfied with how the story ended but a girl can be greedy sometimes y'know?

This is a must read for sure. You will not regret it.

This story is really well written. It is well paced though I wish I could see more of their happy ending together. Honestly though, it's one of the best BL stories I've read.

It's such a shame that I wasn't able to read the novel before I encountered the manhua version. Its the first manhua that I want to read so bad. I've been waiting for the updates but sadly I dont think they'll bring back the novel.

If anyone knows how to read this story for free pls fill me up. I'm really broke so I can't buy the one the author's sells with a copy. I'm I'm really shameless I know and I cant even support the author with money but I... more>> really like this story. I can't even stand waiting for the updates in the comic version so, I read some spoilers. Huhuhu T-T <<less

This was a journey. Just like the course of life, there are vicissitudes in this story — good times and bad times, hilarity and hurt, unexpected moments that cause great shock, and moments of contentment where all's right with the world. Reading this is thus surreal in the sense that you feel yourself growing up alongside the characters, and experiencing the genre change and time-skip is just as jarring and heart-rending as it may be when you hear sudden news in real life.

Needless to say, I really loved reading this.... more>> The author was masterful in illustrating how euphoric Zhuang Fanxin and Gu Zhuoyan's youth together was, setting up the waves of nostalgia readers feel later on in the story. There's a definite pain in knowing that things will never be as they were, but the point that what's important is to set new goals and look forward to the future unobstructed was very well executed. I also especially liked the theme of airports as places of reunion and parting. All this, coupled with the many nostalgic references to old music, movies, and books made the novel one I won't forget.

Also, Gu Zhuoyan's group of friends are THE BEST. I was so happy learning that Lu Wen has a sequel, but it should have been with Pei Zhi ㅠㅠ <<less

How I found out about the novel

I came across the card for this novel on Twitter. It looked interesting plus I also read the manhua on BiliBili (English version currently up to chapter 66). After getting that far into the manhua it really peaked my interest and I decided to try to find the novel. It took a while to find this because the translator cited on this page removed the novel and you can only access if you purchase the Raws. I still have to do some... more>> due diligence on figuring out how to do that so for the moment I had to continue my search for an English or Spanish translation I could read. After some Google searching I came across a link with the Chinese text that I was able to translate from my web browser.

Novel review

I fell in love with this novel. At less than 100 chapters total it is not an incredibly long read and although there is some angst and mentions of self harm and depression it is not excessive and mentioned only in regards to the past. There is a happy ending. Overall I would say that for me all the trouble I went through to try to find a readable version of this novel for me was completely worth it. I loved the story of the main couple.

The story is mostly told from the perspective of the ML however there are different parts of the story where the point of view changes. I liked that I got to experience the majority of the story through them ML point of view. You really are left wondering until the very end what happened during the 10 year gap that the couple was not together. (Especially because before the 10 year gap the MC is the one that initiates the break up with the ML). It's not until the very end where the giant reveal is made and you begin to see what happened to the MC.

It was very hard to find spoilers for this one I will just have to say I highly recommend that you read it. I'll mention some light spoilers here hopefully they will encourage you to try to find the novel so you can read it:

SPOILERS AHEAD

    • The main couple meet in high school
    • there is a misunderstanding that leads to the couple being together this part was very cute. In essence the ML from the very beginning of the story is has come out as gay already and the MC at this stage of the story is confused about his orientation. They work through the misunderstanding and end up being together this becomes both of their first loves.
    • due to MC family situation he has to move to the states and they decide to wait for each other. (Because I read a Google translation off a Chinese website I'm not sure if they decided to have a long distance relationship or if they decided to leave it open ended and just wait for each other but there was definitely a promise they're made between both of them.)
    • during the period when the MC is in Los Angeles the MC calls the ML (this happened a year into the move to Los Angeles) and tells him he has met someone else. *This is chapter 65 in the manhua and chapter 56 in the novel*
    • The 10 year gap happens in chapter 66 of the manhwa and chapter 57 of the novel.
    • The past is what sets the stage for the present I don't want to share any more spoilers because basically I'll be depriving you of the joy of reading this novel.
    • The last thing that I have to say is that the explanation for the 10 year gap was really really good and it fell outside of what you typically see in novels that have huge time gaps.

A sweet teenage romance, a lot of pain, and an exciting reunion with some more pain later, I get to have the most enormous smile I've had in a while after completing a book.

The protagonists are two extremely lovable characters who couldn't be more real with both their joys and sorrows. The story, as tagged, is a slice of life for most of its part, but there is drama, and there is quite a bit of it that I don't mind, but others might. I absolutely enjoyed reading every word... more>> of this book and couldn't ask for anything better for a monsoon read. <<less

I loveeeee thissss story soooooooooooooooooo much T______________T
5/5.

Character, Plot, Writing Style, Climax.... 5/5 from me.

The way the author describes it from the very first time they're met each other was so beautiful. It's full of youth.
Even the time skip doesn't bother me. Like the climax giving all those answers. I'm speechless, holding my breath, and cried.

I feel the pain the MC went through and also when the ML discover everything.

It's perfect. The proportion of the fluff, hurt/comfort, and the angst was perfect!
Even though I really want to get more extras hehehehehe.
If you enjoy angst or hurt/comfort, this is the story you've been looking for. Do not skip it.

Aldo, thank you for the translator who picked up this beautiful story. <3

It's a very complete story. Fantastic plot and characters. The timeline is about the past and present so about 40plus chapters for the past and 40plus for the present (which is 10years later) so I would say that the novel was quite well-paced.

The angst hits hard and the last part of the novel. It was so freaking sad.

[collapse]

Full of angst and fluff. Nevertheless a great story with a lovely romance in it. Really did not regret reading this after seeing the fact that the cover is freaking gorgeous and the translation status is completed. A plus is ZHX is a sweetheart. Super adorable yet I just wanna pat his head and say that he did a really good job. No matter how many people (whether it's those in the novel or those reading the novel) misunderstood him, I really believed him to the end, and well... I can only say I wasn't wrong in choosing to believe in him :) <<less
