[High Dimensional Invasion: Refers to the invasion of the world by enemies from another dimension]

*

Si Chen has always felt that he was just an ordinary person.

Apart from being less lucky, better-looking and being able to escape with body intact, there was nothing special about him.

But the people around him didn’t seem to think so.

Survivor A: I am a famous Evolved on Heaven’s Stairway but I have also lighted up the Mechanical Civilization’s Technology Tree. After mistakenly entering the supernatural instance, I thought I was done for. In the end, I was rescued by Si Chen.

Survivor B: I was born to one of the wealthiest families and my family bought for me lots of evolution fluids. I thought I could kill gods but I was beaten by Si Chen.

Survivor C: I come from the abyss, a creature of primal chaos. Before, I believed in god. Now, I believe in him.

Summary: #There’s something about this man.#

*

When the transformation was just completed, Si Chen’s world was blood red.

He couldn’t see light or color. He couldn’t hear, couldn’t smell. In his dream was a strange sky, way up high.

Someone asked him, Do you regret it?

Si Chen replied, “Not at all.”

Charity and mercy are not power, the sword is.

I do not recommend this novel to people who actually like sci-fy (which this novel is not) or genius characters who has common sense.

It is a common trend in chinese novels that they love to write genius characters but they can’t really write them in a way that you can suspend your disbelief. A shame.

To demonstrate this point with two instances from the story:

Spoiler

Our MC the so-called once in a million genius does the following in the start of the novel:

- his plan is to sell his high class medicine for a lot of money to afford higher education in an era where only the really privileged can afford the said education. Ahh yes, this plan has no flaws, like how ppl will wonder how he got the money, or how he has actual enemies who will do everything to uncover the origin of the money.

- later, he wants to test if alien plants are drinkable with testing it on an other alien life form. Ahh yes, if drinking the plant won’t kill the alien life form it sure as hell won’t kill a human, totally makes sense.

Interesting concept. Instead of the players visiting multiple worlds like a traditional unlimited flow story, the multiple worlds are visiting one world.

The ending to me was rushed. I think just because the author decided to cram multiple worlds in one story they couldn't really do as much world building/pacing. The author spent a lot of time world building the mechanical world in comparison to other worlds.

Spoiler

Other rushed things includes ML downgrading himself to make himself less mechanical and more human so that he can upgrade himself as a biological evolutionist with mechanical auxiliary path, but nothing really gets done with it other than giving ML/Turing more human traits such as getting tired easily and feeling pain. The Prophet is the White Bear, which seemed kind of inconsistent. They seemed like 2 different people.

[collapse]

We don't get a lot of development of ML in terms of feelings, especially after the readers find out MC's identity. I mean we can tell he's in love, but he just seemed insta-in-love.

Spoiler

Turing met MC in a "previous" life, we don't get Turing's point of view.

[collapse]

MC is manipulative and he's kind of scummy, but there's backstory and character development in it. It fits with the the environment of the world he's in. He himself admits he's not a good person, but he also admits he has a bottom line.

MC's teacher was... r*pey, s*xual harasser, very sus. Complicated at the end. I didn't like ML's mom. Maybe it's accurate rich people mom plus she's bionic? She cared more about the property, saying it's all for the good of ML spiel.

There's an inconsistency with MC that bothers me. He's a lab researcher and he has performed surgeries, but sometimes there are descriptions that make him seem like he has done zero science.

All in all, I liked it, it was different so I'm giving it 5 stars. Also Si Yuan is best boi. <<less

I would recommend this to people who like action without much romance. There's some world building and exploration in the story, and childcare.

thank you to the translator for introducing this story to me, I haven't been reading BL on NU for quite a while because I haven't found something that suited my taste for a while

The arcs:

Spoiler

The arcs, or what I know as dimensional folds, are all unique, with different styles. The fact that each dimension has different species adds to the variety

My favourite was the supernatural dimension, with the kindergarten. I wished they showed more of the kindergarten.

Like the other review said, if you compare the arcs, you can tell that the carol civilisation has way more development (detailed explanation for the 3 mechanical gods) than any other civilisations

[collapse]

The characters:

Spoiler

There are good and bad characters, in terms of their personality. I don't think that the identity of MC's foster brother was revealed to him even to the very end, which cuts down some excitement for me. Side characters also have their own story to tell, like the girl who chose to be a child eternally so her mother could recognize her, and the father who deeply loved his crippled, mutated daughter but died in the end.

The protagonist is not a good person, but sometimes he shows humanity and compassion for people.

I loved Song Bai (´;д;`) He was that morally ambiguous mentor that you knew MC could count on. Although his behaviour left me cringing at times, I really think he was the closest MC had to a parent figure

Turing is... He didn't leave a huge impression on me, but he was the kind of gong that made lots of sacrifices for MC. Ji Chuyao is endearing in how he acts shyly before MC. However, I see Ji Chuyao and Turing as separate entities although Turing says that Ji Chuyao is also him, so when I see them romancing I feel kind of weird

[collapse]

The romance:

Spoiler

Do not expect lovey dovey romance. The main couple are not very good at expressing their love for each other. There is, however, kid interactions that I really love. Si Yuan and Guan Xing ftw!

[collapse]

The progression:

Spoiler

I started losing interest in the story near the end, which is typical of me recently. The part where Si Chen starts to fight the 2 administrators are not particularly interesting to me, making those scenes seems drawn out. Additionally, the extras weren't enough to make up for the ambiguous happy end in chapter 245. If you are the kind who likes long extras at the end of the story with harmonious interactions and happy family life, this might not be for you.

[collapse]

protagonist:

Spoiler

A lot of mysteries surrounding his existence. Although he is not a supreme existence, he has multiple golden fingers as far as beings living in dimensions can possibly go.

Though this novel brought fresh idea for ongoing concepts, it also suffers from taking more than it could take.

Don't take this the wrong way, this novel is decent enough to read and if you are not fussy about details and world building technicalities then it might be a superb read to you.

Let's preface this with the good parts of the book. It was fast paced, action oriented, and was not simple. It brought a new premise and a new world with different standards in society and dynamics. It could really... more>> be good, if the author was up for the taking. Which even if they reach a decent level, was not enough for this plot.

I have three problems with this book. Character incongruence, information viability, and the lack of overall goal's tension.

First off, the character. The characters, although they were not paper cardboards and soulless, they definitely lacking. I think the author exhausted himself to the MC making him complicated and complex that he just had to make do with the other characters. They were not that bad, but they could seriously need more shaping and texture.

But even if there's more attention to the MC's character making, it also suffers from its complexity. There's so much going on with the MC, so much past history and emotional facets that he had become lacking. More like inauthentic.

His character is unstable sometimes, he reacted poorly in certain situations, and has specific reactions that as a reader made me confuse. From far he looked like a though of character but when you look at him and when you interact with him, it felt like looking at a painting with so many parts missing and some of them were not fitting. In this way, it made me, as a reader, relate less to him, because he did not feel like a person.

He is a morally grey person, so he's complex and has some faults making him more real in theory, and he's handsome and should be charming and all, but he is not endearing. It was hard for me to connect with him.

One of the problems with his character is his Tell rather than Show approached. The story depicted him as something amazing, a genius even, but all I can see is a slightly smart person. Most of the things happening to him was due to luck.

When he was taken as the heir and when people named him as amazing for scoring so high in the exams, I started questioning where is this genius they are talking about. All I saw in the process was him winning though convenience and I am not saying he is not capable of being genius, it was just not shown.

His fight scenes are subpar. He was depicted as someone who was good at fighting but I hardly saw him fight or showcase these skills. The little fight he had was even done by his pet.

His character was not that bad, it was just a waste of 'could be'.

The second thing, viability of information. I know that information is important to build a scene but how the characters got their info was so convenient. Somehow some people will record a diary, or a video and then they would tell their life story there for some reasons. It was complete, with their life story, even getting deeper to their own emotions and perceptions of it. It felt unprofessional, and unrealistic. In no way, you enter a new world, and someone just left you the whole world story just lying around for you to read and for you to understand so that the plot could move. It was a terrible writing choice.

Then third, the lack of tension with the overall goal with the novel. Even the establishment of goal was only done a third in the book but you were still there for the growth part of the MC but here came the problem.

Spoiler

The Main Characters are too OP to be exciting. Like literally they are gods, The MC was used to be a god and the ML is a god too. They are powerful enough. The did not have the problem of being weak to strong. Although they started as weak, at least the MC, and started growing, all the excitements fizzles out when it was gradually revealed that he use to be even powerful than god, He did not even have the limitation.

[collapse]

It would be exciting, that despite his OP presets, he still work hard, and it was just not work hard+convenience pattern, but working hard+conquering the odds. If only his journey was not so plot convenient.

Aside from that, I though this one was not an Infinite Flow novel, but later on the author actually wanted it to be and just wrote it in a different way. Which was fine but when you set yourself to standards, you tend to conform.

Just imagine how weird I fell when a novel I thought was sci-fi with monsters and biological evolution and all get supernaturalified in the second instance. Like suddenly, there were ghost and supernatural. I get it, they wanted to be like IF novels, but here comes the problem, the instance, although they were okay, they were not beyond average. It even felt like meh, namely the second and third instance. They became more like those IF novels out there, so comparisons was inevitable. And even though it was not bad, it was nothing phenomenal at all. I, unfortunately for them, had already read all the completed IF novels in NU, and few of them were phenomenal, with tasteful instance, and what this book offered was pitted against them and so thus compared.

But the subsequent instance though took a different flavor than the IF so it went back to being a decent read again.

Romance wise, though there were some bright spots, it just felt lacking in the end. It was not hastily made, but it was also not that great. Just read it, it's not that bad.

Overall, it was still a good read, thus the 4 star, but if you're a picky reader, you really have to swallow some quirks to enjoy it. It had a grandious plans, but my expectation was only met around 70%, with 100 as satisfying and 150 as 'Woah!'. It's not bad, you should read it without expecting phenomenality. <<less

mc's relationships are really messy XD

[collapse]

Overall pretty good. It's somewhat science fiction. I expected it to take a more brain power to read but It's pretty light. It's easy to guess how the general direction of the story will go. That isn't bad because expectations can also be a motivation to read.

The genre is more nightmare flow.. Thing I forgot the name. But it's a Chinese genre where uh characters go through differnet worlds, doing tasks, and survive through differnet scenarios? Something like that.

It's pretty good. Has good enough world-building and the journey from 'weak' to strong MC is cool.

The downside for me is that the main character doesn't have a concrete personality. He's kind of boring?

I agree with the other reviews talk about how the novel keeps on describing MC as a genius but he doesn't give off that feeling. The novel also sometimes tries to portray MC as a scheming person too. It's just poor execution that he ends up feeling so empty. Or maybe he is meant to be like that.

Spoiler

the only thing consistent with his character is his attachment to little abyss (his 'son'). Which is cute. I love their interactions.

[collapse]

Now that I've read it, the summary feels like a bait lol. This was fun to read though.

The story is very good for me. But I dropped it. Because I feel Turing as character would never be justified. The author says they are one (the same person) but th MC Si Chen treat them differently. Rather than Ji Chuyao I felt Turing has more personality. I get the characters who described Ji Chuyao as some wild man (the pig) who ate the MC (the pig eaten the cabbage), because I feel Turing should be the ML, and be highlighted more. Maybe in my mind Turing and Ji... more>> Chuyao are two different individuals, so I get Si Chen. And that hurts me so much -- I cried everytime Si Chen treats Turing more like a stranger (even though that's the orig husband). Given the lot of talk on consciousness, author executed it poorly. So yeah, that small reason overtaken the unique and exciting plot of this novel and decided to drop this.

It such as piss as I really ABSOLUTELY LOVE everything about this novel except to that.

I will miss Little Abyss, it such a cutieeeeee >✓< <<less
