This novel has a good introduction, great storytelling, and good pacing. And a very well-written character. Character development for MC is good. She learns from experiences throughout the story.

Her fundamental personality is quick wit and a bit cautious person so we didn't often see her struggle much when she fell into traps (luck plays a part).

Other characters are also not one-dimension characters they have their own story and cause of actions.

Mc's dynamic with others is hilarious.

Overall: very Addict webnovel5/5 (yes I’m biased)

Like author previous works, Game of the World Tree, the gender bender aspect is just a kind of gimmick for MC to have boyish mindset and not being attracted to men. There is no deep diving into the topic of gender since MC is too busy on managing her estate and trying to survive.

The story is quite interesting, as the Gods are the pinnacle existences and the true ruler of this world. Even though extraordinary power existed, the rules imposed by Gods maintain the peaceful society (in the surface). So although Charlotte was quite poweful, she still need to navigates through the murky political battle with her wits and natural acting talent. Her opponents isnt dumb either. Theyre master of scheme and Charlotte would occasionally caught off-guard by them. And even though there is rules imposed by Gods, that is only a written rule. Charlotte still need to use her individual strength to guard against evil from the dark. Theres good balance between brain and brawn in this story.

A good dynamic between pretentious master and fanatic servants. Added occasional comedic moment to ease the tense atmosphere help aleviate the serious mode that drain the brain power and emotion, make you able to enjoy it more casually. <<less

Goood.. So good.. Its really my cup of tea. The atmosphere, the act of our sneaky little princess, everything. I don't care about other things, everything already look good in my eyes. The prolog is good, and its really Synchronize with my imagination because I always like this kind of dark and eerie atmosphere, as if watching a beast awaken from its seal, little by little.. Much hope to the translator for not leaving it behind.

Very good to see other works from author Nomnom, has a smart MC and is not afraid to face problems even though she is not the best at making decisions. Throughout the story, we will be shown the character development of Charlotte and it goes hand in hand with the world building of Gospel of Blood. The genre of pretending to be a god will eventually become a real god like what Klein from Lotm did. Very interesting to watch in the future

An okay novel. While I think it's a good read, it's just not for me. The original novel description--and the first twenty chapters or so--makes it sound like you're reading about a reincarnated girl having to deal with her overpowered vampire abilities. Unfortunately (for me anyway), after that it just becomes a milquetoast political novel (with one chapter even being titled "Game of Thrones" to drive the point home about what the novel is). I ignore existing reviews and tags when picking something up, so I would've known that this... more>> is a politics novel if I just looked, but I prefer going in blind. But even as a politics novel, I felt this like was weak. Charlotte doesn't really do anything on her own, she just uses her vampire powers to woo people with misunderstandings and then is dragged around by the plot while others do the heavy lifting. It got boring to read.

Translation: The TL seems decent enough. Some grammar mistakes, as you'll commonly find in Chinese translations. The TL is inconsistent sometimes, but they leave a TL note when they decide to change something. But then they don't go back and change the previous translations to their new names, so it feels amateurish. <<less

A novel thats one of the worse ones from the best. Worst of the best. It does everything good enough, but not perfectly like a masterpiece. Compared to other novels, I still look forward to it tho.

It has secrets and revelations, they are thought out, but unfortunately not for too long. While its not as bad as some novels thats extremely short sighted, like some novels who only think the next 2 3 chapters before coming up with something. Its still not as great and mysterious as... say... The lord... more>> of the mysteries.

The fights and tension doesnt exist, bec author made the MC too powerful too easily. No not powerful, but basicly gave a cheat. Every mortal is powerless against her, but the real threats are sleeping. It only gives an artificial tension.

Characters arent just names, they have depth, but not too much. You can understand some character's mindset pretty fast.

The visualization is good, it gives room to imagination.

The nobles, politics, and schemes are again, good enough, but not to the point of giving the feeling of reality. Its still better than 99% of the webnovels here. 4/5 in reality. But I cant give it 4 stars when there is much worse novels which has 4.5+ stars.

Edit: you can read up to c350 properly translated and its still translated. I have read until chapter 543, which is the point where even MTL gets cuts off. This novel is the only novel I have read as MTL and it was an excellent Machine TransLation. My comments above about the novel, they still stand. Worst of the best. <<less

Personally, I'm not usually into political novels with limited action, but this one is different—it's surprisingly good. Normally, political tension builds up, the protagonist solves their problem, and that's it. But this novel handles the lack of action really well. It's a bit slow for my taste, but that doesn't stop me from giving it a 5-star review.

The world-building is impressive, and the character interactions and political intricacies are excellently written. The translation is solid too. I've only read the first volume, but it shows great potential. It's from the... more>> same author as "The Game Of The World Tree", so that's a plus.

As a heads-up, it's quite slow-paced, so patience is needed. You might feel like dropping it around chapter 20, but I'd recommend sticking with it. Myssoferia's review covers a lot of points I agree with, so check out the top review for more insights.

Also here's the Power Ranking in the novel, I might forget it, so just in case...

Spoiler

Power System Ranking:

Zero Tier (Awakening)

- 2-5x stronger than ordinary human

First Tier (Starry Sky) - Charlotte as of the end of V1

Second Tier (Silver Moon)

-2-4x stronger than First Tier, Qualitative Change, Blood Viscount (for Bloodbornes)

Third Tier (Blazing Sun)

-Idk, just very strong, Soul Qualitative Leap

Legendary

-Not Shown Yet (as of V1)

Saint

-Avatar of the Gods, God Descent, Charlotte only demonstrates a small part of its power

Demi-God

-The world currently cannot handle it's presence

Mythical (God)

I Really enjoy this novel, it has a great story and the characters are developed in a way that makes you feel emotional for them.

The story follows the MC, reincarnated as Charlotte de Castell some days before her birthday. Now how will he? Or rather She, will adapt to this new world with fantastical elements within.

The MC is a cunning one that uses people, but also one where she's very emotional to the people close to her. One where she doesn't care about lives but doesn't want to include the... more>> innocents. A pragmatic vampire who doesn't want to drink human blood.

The relationship she has with people is also one that's fleshed out with reason behind them that's great!

All in all, I think it's one of the nicest story I read that I thoroughly enjoyed. <<less

This needs a review.

As for now this story is one of the best i've read in my last year.

Smart MC, rather well built characters that shows humanity (or rather, non-humanity), the plot and the premise are interesting and the atmosphere is generally really good.

the pace is perfect as its fast when needed and slow when needed.

An easy 5/5

Normally I don't like novels that have a significant political fiction elements, no matter the additional genres. A lot of political fiction in my experience has the unfortunate effect of being emotionally draining without the payoff. Let me explain what I mean - in a lot of political fiction, there's usually a lot of tension in terms of fending off political opponents, implementing what needs to be done, etc., but the payoff usually is a bit less than I'd like. The payoff usually comes in the form of having been able to accomplish what the protagonist wanted to do... and then that's kind of about it.

This novel feels different to me. Although I've kind of just started, I'm excited. It has Korean FMC noble society novel vibes, in that the protagonist starts off in a VERY precarious position, where one false move is death, and every political gain she makes, whether it's in the managing of her territory, the revitalisation of her house, the defeat of political opponents etc., are all steps in preserving her life and giving her a stronger foothold in the world. This is also why I'm way more into female-lead political fiction than male-lead political fiction - in male-lead political fiction, it's usually about accomplishing. In female-lead political fiction, it's a lot more about survival and preservation, especially in these noble society settings. The payoff simply feels a lot better. This is also why I had a period of time where I binged a bunch of Korean FMC noble society novels, although a lot of the time those novels tend to predicated on a more romance-led direction, where she relies on her husband/fiancee a lot more.

But this is why this novel is so exciting to me. She's going to rely entirely on herself and her growth-type isekai buff to slowly win political battles, get stronger, and claim her place in the world. Plus the stakes are off the roof, she's REALLY weak in the beginning, and she has such a long way to go. Frankly, if you ask me this is what Chinese novels do a lot better than Japanese and Korean novels. In my experience, Chinese novels are much more willing to make their main characters "work for it". In Chinese it's called "吃的卷中卷,方为人上人". It means, if you want to be above the crowd, you have to work harder than anyone for it. There's of course no shortage of Chinese novels with overpowered MCs and such, but there's definitely more Chinese works that I've encountered that go from "weak to strong" rather than "strong to stronger" and "strong from the start" than KR and JP novels.

[collapse]

converted previous review to a spoiler since it's outdated.

If I had to sum up this novel in one line, it would be "mystery-action cosplaying as a political novel". The political aspects of this novel are kind of like window dressing for the larger backdrop of divine and mysterious powers at play in the world created by the author. In fact, I would argue that the political aspects of this novel are more like mortal media through which the main character interacts with the reality of the world.

I have to say that I really enjoy the novel. The worldbuilding is very concrete and very solid, something a lot of novels can't accomplish. It may not be the most expansive or revolutionary form of worldbuilding, but what it has in spades is concreteness. Political, military, religious, and transcendent powers are very clearly and discretely fleshed out, as well as their complicated and myriad relationships.

The plot, while seeming to be something of a political genre, actually feels like it leans a lot more towards mystery. There are a lot of untold and unrevealed secrets about the history of the world and the past of various individuals that leaves a lot to be unraveled in the future. I think reading this novel actually helped me realise I quite like the mystery genre done in this kind of way. Secrets about the world that have to be uncovered and resolved in order to reach the "correct" ending is a wonderful way to write a novel. Look at novels like Solo Levelling and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. Both of them have this plotline in the background despite their main thrust being action novels.

The characters in this novel are pretty decent. However, I'm not a huge fan of how basically every character that is close to the main character is essentially a subordinate or in a subservient position. She doesn't seem to have any peers. Perhaps it will change over time as the plot progresses, but as things stand she has a bunch of subordinates and no real friends, peers, or even contemporaries. Well, that's not quite true, but for the sake of no spoilers and because of plot reasons, it's pretty true.

It's an excellent novel overall, but I can't bring myself to give it 5 stars. The main reason is the atmosphere of the novel. You know the heavy feeling of an overcast sky when it's about to rain? That's the feeling this novel gives me. It falls into the trap that other novels that have power scaling like this does - introduces overly powerful enemies too early that have the potential of wiping out the main character if they make one bad move, and then not giving any real outlets to relieve that pressure. Novels like this which have extremely vast power scalings need to introduce antagonists slowly and more discreetly. This makes it more possible to balance the atmosphere of the novel and the power scaling of the main character.

See, what's happens with early reveals of uber powerful BBEGs is our main character is always far too weak to truly let loose and do what they want, but untouchable by 99% of other potential opponents. So they are in the awkward position of being overpowered generally, but severely underpowered against the true threats. I feel like novels like these would be better served by having antagonists released in stages, so it feels like the protagonist can handle everything at their level, but it takes effort, grit, and some desperation. And then as they power up, more powerful existences start noticing them and become the new threats. That way, tension can be more freely manipulated as a tool for the author, rather than be a constant of the backdrop. By having the protagonist be levelwise evenly matched with the antagonists they have to face, there is now a tool for building and releasing tension. Meanwhile, by having (a) looming super powerful antagonist (s) in the background, there is no real mechanism for releasing tension, leading to the sense that the protagonist is always under pressure.

I personally don't think it's a very good way of utilising tension as a writer. You want your audience to ebb and flow with the building and release of tension. That's what keeps people engaged and reading. Constant tension or constant zero tension makes it very easy to lose your audience, whether it be through emotional exhaustion or boredom respectively.

But regardless, I really, really enjoy this novel. The author is an excellent writer and is very good at telling the story they are trying to tell. It's very much worth a read.

A solid 7/10 webnovel that could have been much better.

Gospel of Blood is similar to Lord of Mysteries in that both Main characters try to ascend to godhood by pretending to be an ancient stand in god. The difference, however, lies in the execution of a lot of events.

Gospel of Blood has strong points. For example, the storytelling is good. People in the story interact with purpose, there's always some mysteries at hand, and things might not always seem as simple as they seem. There's a lot of moving parts... more>> when it comes to political intrigue and power plays. Many times, the relationships between people and kingdoms are the reasons why the story moves forward. This is Gospel of Blood's strongest point, and it's the reason it doesn't get too boring.

However, what are the flaws? I think character development is the biggest flaw. Gospel of Blood actually has a lot of good potential characters. Nicholas the cat, Sebastian, Sherry, and other subordinates all actually have their roles in the plot and have good enough personalities to be developed forward. The problem is that the author doesn't do this. Once side characters become an established subordinate, other than doing what Charlotte wants them to do, nothing else happens to them. You don't really explore their character too much further, and they kind of stagnate which is truly unfortunate. This isn't just with the subordinate side characters. Even villains, opposition, and other characters that weave the story tend to have very little characterization going for them. While they have labels, and they scheme, and they might influence the plot, not enough time is given to actually breathe life to them. What's the point of good story and arcs when the characters moving it along don't get enough time to develop? It's a complete shame.

If there was ample time to give more worldbuilding and characters a chance to shine, the novel could have been perfect. Charlotte, our main character aims to pretend to be the True Ancestor of Blood with her Gospel of Blood. With this can come a lot of different faces. For example, Sebastian and Nicholas are unique followers that actually know Charlotte as Charlotte, and not as the True Ancestor. By having character arcs focusing around them, you can not only characterize Charllotte, but also introduce their perspective on things. Likewise, with other blood servants, they might only see Charlotte as the True Ancestor, and that too will have a different perspective. Each characters has their own motivations and views that the novel just completely fails to bring to life.

Characterization also includes fun comedic moments and worldbuilding. For example, Nicholas and Sebastian know Charlotte as a human. By having them interact with other subordinates that fear Charlotte, it creates a fun misunderstanding. The novel could have been much better if Charlotte herself knew less about what her subordinates were thinking about, and rather she's just trying her best to pretend to be the True Ancestor. After all, this would bring a lot of new paths in the novel. For example, Nicholas and Sebastian treating Charlotte more as a friend, her blood thralls fearing her, and the Holy Church worshipping her as the Saint. With Charlotte possessing so many faces, there comes fun developments where characters think of her in many different ways. And indeed, the novel does feature characters that praise her, fear her, and treat her more as a friend. However, none of these characters interact with each other, the misunderstanding is always cut short, and it's a bit sad. For example, a prominent example could be when Albretch, a blood servant is talking to Charlotte, completely unaware of her identity. Instead of having more of a fun conversation and misunderstanding where Albretch finds out her identity and Charlotte continues to be unaware, Charlotte instead directly identifies Albretch and the conversation ends.

Indeed, Gospel of Blood is a novel that's about dialogue and politics, which is also why the power system in this novel straight up sucks. There's really no descriptive fights, and for the fights there are, it's just one side overpowering the other. Apparently Charlotte gains bloodline powers and has many varied ways to utilize Bloodborne powers, but seriously, Charlotte kind of just brute forces everything, and none of the unique magic that bloodborne have access to is ever really elaborated on. The magic system is superficial, the power rankings are too, and there's never any close fights. It's either that Charlotte takes control of the fight instantly, or she avoids confrontation at all costs because she's too weak. This brings me into the other point about power levels. While the novel really focuses a lot on some political maneuvers, that becomes less of a point when Charlotte herself is absolutely OP. Yes, despite the novel being all about power dynamics, Charlotte solves a lot of her worst situations with absolute strength rather than outmaneuvering an opponent. Charlotte becomes too strong too fast, and it interferes with a lot of the story. For example Charlotte defends her territory, but because her status is already very strong, even if her armies fall apart, she'd probably be able to salvage it purely based on her power alone, which just doesn't really make sense.

Gospel of Blood features good foundational characters but never expands on it, and because of that, the novel feels very flat at times despite it having a lot of potential. <<less

I understand now why the summary doesn’t explain anything. The narration reveals information layer by layer. Try reading the first few chapters to see what I mean, it wouldn’t work if you already knew what the story is about.

This is one of the most interesting things I've read. And I don't really understand why. I wouldn't say that there's anything that makes it stand out, it just knows how to keep you in enough tension, but not too much, so that you're just interested. The politics, the world, the heroine, the characters, the horror and the comedy are all given in such proportions that it all works well. Unlike Lord of Secrets, which feels like a much more drawn out epic story, there is focus on the main... more>> character and this actually works in the story's favor. <<less

*Gospel of Blood* is a gripping, darkly atmospheric novel that blends elements of horror, mystery, and supernatural intrigue. The story follows a protagonist entangled in a web of ancient secrets, blood rituals, and a sinister legacy that threatens to consume them. The writing is visceral and immersive, painting a world where faith and horror collide in unexpected ways.

The novel excels in its eerie, gothic tone and relentless tension, keeping readers on edge with its twists and morally ambiguous characters. While some plot points may feel familiar to fans of occult... more>> thrillers, the execution is sharp, and the mythology is richly developed.

A must-read for those who enjoy dark, thought-provoking horror with a philosophical edge. <<less
