Yet another mmo that makes no sense, authors should just stick to systems and not games if they don't know commercial games work.

Anyway cliche is right, MC basically gets stuff handed to him on a platter like a lousy Chinese novel at earns hundred of levels in stats for doing normal blacksmith things. (Even has nationalism included)

The premise is also incredibly s*upid, that blacksmithing is a somehow a dead art in 2040 and the last 2 masters happen to be korean.

There are so many hobby blacksmiths just obsessed with... more>> the stuff, it's already outdated right now but people still love it. Directly next to your country (Japan) exists blacksmiths that use ancient technique (tamahagane) that still do it today despite extreme inefficiency because tradition. If you're interested at all in blacksmithing it makes no sense.

I give it a 3 because the translation is at least good and high effort. <<less

This novel is plot armour galore.

It's always timed that the protag gets what he needs as he finds out he needs it. The Earth of the novel is some backwards ass earth where there's only like 6 good blacksmiths in RL but they have the virtual tech and interwebs. I was hoping they would cover how blacksmith became an almost extinct art but it just seems like a plot point for the protag and no world building reason.

Need money for medical bills + other shit. Bam, someone happened to bid... more>> just enough for you to afford it all and a bit more.

Only a small percent chance of cutting the sword and you have three tries? Of course you get it on the third try. <<less

There seem to be plenty of reviews tr*shing this story because the plot armor is too strong and there are plot holes in the blacksmithing. That's all true but it isn't really unusual. If this was a Japanese light novel and the MC was a high schooler surrounded by archetypal girls then people would be calling it a masterpiece.

The story itself has tons of flaws and looks like it will have a harem but it moves at a good pace and feels good to see things go well for the... more>> MC. This is a good story to binge. After I catch up to the latest chapter and stop reading, I don't know if I will still remember it exists.

Edit around chapter 125:

This is a story about our MC, Awesome McAwesomehands. He spends the first hundred or so chapters being Awesome. Then the author realized "Hey! I don't know anything about blacksmithing! Why am I wasting time writing about it? My MC is Awesome, so why don't I write about him doing other things perfectly?" So that's what the author did. And everything was awesome because the MC is Awesome. But even with all the cheesy-ness, it still has its fun moments. <<less

Man would I love if it the author took more time to introduce the world to us and flesh things out. But as it is now it just feels like things are the way they are just cause plot.

As another review said, who knows why blacksmithing is so rare in his world cause we sure don't. We're supposed to just go along with it and that's how the rest of the chapters I've read have felt too. Overall, it just feels like a mellowed down version of Overgeared—minus the terrible... more>> writing at the start but also minus the satisfying growth that you see both Grid and the Author have. <<less

I have been reading this novel for a while and I really enjoy it. If you are looking for a novel where the protagonist is over powered, this is a great pick.

My recent issue with this novel (and why I said 4 stars) is that the website has lost most of the chapters. I do understand that occasionally chapters must be taken down, but please have a warning. Currently the table of contents only shows up to chapter 57, and after clicking for a while you can only find up... more>> to chapter 196.

Other than this I have truely enjoyed this story and I hope that I can continue reading soon. <<less

This story isn't groundbreaking, but sometimes a familiar plot is nice. If you like novels with AI-controlled VR games, crafting, and an OP MC with a smooth gaming life (at least as of ch110), you could give this a try.

I would personally rate it 3.5/5 mostly because the beginning is way too similar to the author's other work, gourmet gaming but the MC is a blacksmith instead of a chef/gourmet. The story started to branch out in around chapter 100-ish

I've seen a couple of comments wondering why the world has no blacksmiths anymore but it was explained literally in the first chapter that there were no traditional blacksmiths because most of them use machines.

Spoiler

‘Isn’t there a famous Mr. Smith who is a blacksmith?’

‘He is famous, but Mr. Smith said he’s embarrassed to be called a blacksmith.’

‘Embarrassed?’

‘He says his blacksmithing skills are adapted to machinery. There’s no one who does blacksmithing by hand from start to finish anymore.’

[collapse]

It do agree that it has ridiculous plot armor tho but not for the same reasons.

Spoiler

The first and most atrocious one IMO; his dad literally woke up from coma just to give him the production method then fell right back into coma afterwards. Second, he only managed to defeat a demon because the NPC decided to give him the reward before clearing the quest. I don't think a minute has gone by after the rewards was given when the demon suddenly attacked and MC used the reward to clutch the fight. Third, he gained a skill (not sure if it was a temporary skill or not) to summon his friends... It's literally the power of friendship.

In the simplest terms I can possibly do, it's "Overgeared"+"Moon-light Sculptor" - world and character depth. A good read if you intentionally blur the details (don't number crunch, forget exact mentions of money it's just 'big money' earned and immediately spent, MC is a master blacksmith, bowyer... and swordsman and whatever else he needs to be for 'plot')

You take a more op class than from OG plus the MLS's streamer culture put into a gary sue and then keep it shackled to a gilded world and shallow characters. I... more>> haven't actually read as much as the 2 series I'm comparing this one to, so maybe I'm wrong and the writing gets better but I can tell it's not by much if it ever does as it's just too hollow to stand as a sturdy enough foundation. Especially thanks to the author's already apparent allergy to math. The very first big moment is the wrong number of strikes if you actually pull out a calculator. Should've been I think ~5 strikes, less if they crit and proc'd/used the skills more too.

It feels like the author saw the epic moments of those 2 series and other similar stories but forgot they needed buildup and entire castes of characters to sell it properly. MC will just turn up craft an op item and use it to win the day or show their greatness which is somehow lifechangingly impressive to at least one person per event enough for them to swear undying loyalty, player or npc alike.

Thanks to the author's proclivity for spectacle the MC ends up accidentally coming off more as a clout chaser rather than a legend builder. Pretty much everything the MC does ig is a publicity stunt to amass a bigger following or to build up connections with npcs even though it's a direct detriment to the whole low-key growth. For some reason he's really invested in a live stream hitting bigger concurrent watchers... and he's happy that he earned around 1/100th of his latest sale from the event.

Weirdest part for me though is the author's tendency to write players as if they're npcs, literally too in the case of skill effects. MC has a title that makes 'players' more likely to listen to them... this is the player version from 'leading' players, he has a handful of titles for npcs so I'm not confusing the terminology. The game devs also act as if players run on a script, so if MC does x a player will respond y and join the mc's team making mc's team even more op which will... upset the game balance even further? I actually don't know why the devs would care about who the MC may or may not recruit/befriend. They're really just there to spoil the reader through not so subtle foreshadowing.

The korean nationalism is particularly strong here, not much to add really. The game studio is based in korea, yet despite the top players being from other countries you don't even hear their names or even what country they're from. They'll likely only be mentioned when it's time for the MC to drag them down from the top spots. Lots of korean myth items or manufacturing methods somehow being superior.

I feel like I've been ragging on it pretty hard, so I'll just say the MC is hell of a lot more likeable than god grid was near the beginning. A hardworking kid who just got out of a depressing slump, a real underdog. Actually now that I think of it, it's like mid-late stage god grid, skilled blacksmith and skilled swordsman with an inhuman level of stamina/dedication, being projected. Though to be fair most stories fall into that trap so it's hard to fault what seems like an early work of a new author that was excited to mash up their favorites.

If you're really curious about whether or not to read...I'd say it should be a low priority series on your reading list. If you've got nothing better than it's a good time sink, but if you're looking for only top tier stuff than it's a hard pass. Though if the author ever starts a new story, that one might be a good read if they learned from this one. <<less

It's your pretty typical protag is utterly broken in VR where nobody can compare to them type story... Its got good writing and translation, and overall the story is pretty much what you would expect from this genre.

Some things that I do dislike about the story, which honestly are more nitpicky, but the biggest issue is the protagonist halo. There are two main cases where I see this being ab*sed.

The first is probability... Countless times he has gotten things like "reflection with 3% probability" or things to that effect, yet... more>> they basically seem to trigger perfectly in his favor, which obviously isn't how probability works. Honestly, its pretty minor but the part that annoys me is how easy of a fix it is. Make the ability's success depend on the quality of the equipment and the strength of the attack, hence with MC cheat blacksmith skills he can almost guarantee the reflect. This isn't the only example of percentages like this being used, and it just always bothers me how with a below 50% probability it seems to always succeed.

The second thing is how he is unrivaled. Based on how the story is set up, he should be the strongest blacksmith. Having him beat smith and all of the other blacksmiths is fine, but the key thing here is blacksmiths. It has some innermonolog about how other geniuses in their field who put in hard work are recognized but not blacksmiths, which at least to me is essentially the MC saying "I'm at the same level as them in my field" yet for some reason when it comes to the VR game he is unrivaled.

The issue is just how broken he is compared to other geniuses, its fine to give him a legendary class off the bat but give that to the kendo and archery masters in their respective field. Make it clearer that he is unique because he is a blacksmith, the thing that is precious to him, rather than what it currently feels like to me where everyone else is just inferior to him. We haven't gotten much information other than I believe the kendo master failing the fourth goblin, but at least based on context this feeling is ingrained into the story. At least in my opinion it would of been a lot better if he ends up as just above average in fighting, but number one in smithing. Have a few lines about how the archer got a legendary class to start, have him obtain his god class later in the story so it serves as a milestone, a few things like this I think would help the world building round out a lot more and make it feel less like the world resolves around the MC being great.

Overall the story has been good so far, while I am complaining about parts of the book and not really praising it at least for me its a lot easier to find the negatives than the positives. The story is entertaining if the genre is your style and the translation/writing at least to me seemed good so give the book a try. <<less

As someone who doesn't know nor care to research anything about forging, I'll give my two cents here. It's too early for a review but the starting is pretty unoriginal. It goes exactly like you would expect. The translation is good and the character and world building are not very deep. I am curious where this goes. If it remains the same, it's definitely a 4 star quality else if it ramps up, it would be 5 stars.
