This is my new favorite Matthia story. It's so wonderful. Delicately bittersweet in places but an ultimately happy ending.

As with all this author's stories, it's not good to make any judgements until you reach the end because they are puzzles were you can only see the true shape when you have all the pieces. Gap is especially interesting when the true story is revealed. The writing is simple and spare but takes you across worlds.

It's hard to say much about the story without covering the entire thing in a spoiler... more>> tag, but it beings with someone dying the waking up in a place where the Landlord lives, a person who shepherds him to a new life.

This is only fourteen chapters and I think best consumed in all one sitting. I hope you love it too. <<less

This is an amazing, beautiful story. An absolute delight how the author manages to carefully tie together multiple worlds in this short story, without leaving the reader feeling like anything is missing. The ending leaves me feeling like anything is possible, if you try hard enough, you can win yourself happiness no matter how impossible it might seem.

Oh my God!

After going thru a lot novels whether good or bad, emotionlessly because they didn't impress.I didn't imagine even in my wildest dreams that this novel which is short and apparently underrated will overwhelm me. It literally pulled the rug from under my feet! I swear guys I'm not exaggerating!It did what a lot of novels with hundreds of chapters rarely manage to do with just 14 chapters!

The story starts with a really interesting premise. Even tho its mentioned right in the first chapter, I recommend not reading my... more>> review and just going in blind. Anyway, the premise is that 'there exists a gap/place in space and time, where species (not only humans), belonging to different worlds where they were treated cruelly by life itself, emerge after they die tragically and get a chance to heal from their traumas and then choose a world where they will go next, the world might not be safe haven, it might be dystopia with destruction awaiting them but still they will shine, live a fulfilling life by which they are satisfied in this world' and the overseer of this place is 'Landlord'. He has been there for who knows how much time yet he's also unsure about the mysteries of this place. He helps them heal, unwind and answers their questions, but in the end when they leave, he stays waiting for the next visitor.

The story continues with different people having different tragic lives meeting the Landlord and then moving on. But I constantly felt confused, like is that it? Is there no main romance cp? Who is Landlord? Why is this phenomenon happening? When will things get revealed? And boi when it all unravelled, It definitely did not disappoint. Believe me when I say that I'm an emotionally strong person.I don't really cry reading angst because I have become numb after reading so much of it but during the latter half of this novel, my tears were continuously threatening to fall! How can someone write such a beautiful story in just 14 CHAPTERS?? I'm in total awe!!!

The author showed us the first few stories of people to strengthen the premise and set up the circumstances which led to the meeting of the MC and ML! You Ji sacrificing himself in the interstellar world and Parall dying and coming to the gap as a result. Parall and the mermaid going to the world of Feng Yuan and indirectly causing Ji Wei to leave his university, thus ultimately leading to JW and FY's death and their arrival in the gap.

And then the big reveal, about the identity and stories of Feng yuan and Landlord.I'm seriously in awe of the world setting.A dimensional tear which was causing the worlds to be in disarray and an entity formed to solve this. The idea of a love story between the entity and the person who was going to be the pivot point of that calamity was just *chef's kiss* I love how in a story of just a few chapters, I read about an entity who was just there to fulfill its purpose, fall in love with another person! It was beautiful! It was also beautiful to see how The ML fell in love with Fang Yuan from his initial prejudice! And kept hoping and struggling for a way to give life to that entity (Fang Yuan) after he died, even tho he knew it wouldn't result in him meeting him.

But Thankfully, he succeeded, he succeeded in giving life to the MC, yet ended up causing another tear, which he had to fix himself this time by acting as the Landlord and then after all the waiting, they met! And after the author kept us on edge and just when we thought we were going to have our hearts broken, they finally achieved their happy ending! But seriously I need more! I also want to see their happy lovey dovey life! But well atleast it was an HE!

Such a well thought out plot with no plot holes and every of your questions answered rationally. The plot was hella engaging and unique, the world setting was just Wow, the romance excruciatingly beautiful and this whole novel just leaves you speechless, wanting for more! I do read short stories but not that much but after this i'll definitely by checking more by Matthia!

You guys need to check out this gem! No need to hesitate!Its worth all your time! Its too good/10! <<less

Matthia you are a genius.

To me, This is the best novel I have ever read. This will forever remain in my mind and I will keep remembering and crying.

This is the first novel which made me cry, this is very very intriguing story.

... more>> Every thing happening that I didn't understand got my interest high and got me anxious throughout the end.

To me this was the best ending I have read, I would remember and have influence of it for a long long time.

Great story so far, Genius plot, Very interesting Characters.

The love they have for eachother, make me believe hard in love 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Simply BREATHTAKING! *sniff* *sniff*

This was beautiful beyond words, but painful at the same time.

Please don't give up just because you're a little confused or lost at some parts, because the puzzle pieces will beautifully merge together in the end. The best part is the last 2 chapters, I wish there's more but the writer ended the story perfectly! By the way... shhhhh.. ... more>>

Amazing, I cried like a baby. Pretty quick one hour (ish) read. I'd recommend doing it in one sitting thought!

when I say that this is one of my favorite novels ever I mean it.

It's a beautiful story that only can be appreciated after read it till the end. It comes in full circle. It's confusing at times, but just keep going because it will wrapped nicely.

I very much enjoyed reading this, I was a little lost at some parts, but by the end, it all made sense to me. It was beautifully done, both the plot and the translation. By far my favorite Matthia story.

I agree with a previous review, it would be best to read the whole thing in one sitting. It is worth it in my opinion.

Sweet, sweet story. It isn't romantic at first but when the history of the Landlord is revealed, in the latter part of the novel, it is poignant. There is a happy ending.

The Landlord, Fang Dong, had been desperately trying to find/save the person he loves, Fang Yuan. FY isn't human and had gone into FD's world to fix a rift. They fall in love but FY died after the rift was repaired. FD spent his life trying to "create another Fang Yuan in another time and space."

A touching, bittersweet novel.

Loved the characters, writing style, pace and way the story comes together, with characters being linked.

It left me wanting more (in a good way).

I'm a fan of Matthia and the excellent translations provided by the ERS team.

This is truly a beautiful and bittersweet story! Definitely a must-read!

Premise: When a person’s life is unexpectedly cut short and they still have life force left, they are sent to an interim place hosted by the Landlord. After staying with the Landlord, the people choose when to move onto their next world.

There is an overarching mystery, so as you read, you will have a lot of questions. And you never know quite what to expect but just keep reading. Everything will come together at the end in an amazing way.
