You'd think the worldbuilding would be shallow for a short story of this length, but in fact it's more original and thorough than some novels 100x its size.

For example, the demon king has four arms. For example, the unique contrast between demonic and human understanding of time. For example, the humorous cultural differences between species.

I was surprised at the unpredictability of the story. Definitely a really sweet read about a romance between the demon king and a human sorcerer, different from the usual fair.

It's a HE! I was so ready for the human mage to either betray the Demon King or for the Demon King to live in infinite grief. Thank goodness it was neither, and was a proper happy ending. 😭 The human isn't a flawless white lotus either, but despite some initial, minor deception to the Demon King at first, he does dedicate his life to serving the Demon King.

This is a short and bittersweet story.

The interactions between the MC and ML are so sweet, I wish their ending was less bittersweet and more happy. I need extras of the future MC and ML together.

A genuine love story (no appearance involved! a rarity) with a short tragedy twist but finish with happy ending. It's short but felt complete... development is not hasty nor felt forced. Translation is well done... easy relaxed reading. Absolutely recommended.

The Demon is so incredibly sweet and loving to the mage but a little clueless about the difference in their lifespan. It was both touching and disheartening to realize that the aging of his companion mage was both unimportant to his love but unrecognized. Seeing physical changes but not understanding the cause.

Happy ending for sure. The kind of happy ending that allows happiness to find the mage without a moments wait longer in his sorrow. <<less

This is such a lovely little story with such an interesting premise, to fall in love the way the demon did, and to put so much work into that love, unconditionally. Once again, Matthia is able to create very distinct personalities and a world in just a few chapters. It's a very refreshing change and worth trying.

Oh goodness I didn't think this would make me cry so much. I love the story and the thought put into it. The small details such as demons having 4 arms, the differences in lifestyle between humans and demons, and the passage of time that's not reflected through the demon's eyes... very nice. I really wish I could see their life after the ending. I want to know what happens after! I want to see them being so happy together... It's not enough, need more!

At first, I thought this was like those cute novels that will make you feel warm, sweet and happy. It really did make me feel all of those feelings but pain and sadness were also there.

First, this novel reminds me of my biggest fear and that is death. But perhaps, what I fear was not death but the unknown that comes after it. Will I just lose all the consciousness I have in my being, will I... more>> reincarnate, transmigrate or will I face the judgement of god? I'm scared of growing old, too scared to see my loved ones with their wrinkles and white hair, too scared to imagine what my day would be like without them forever. You also understand what I'm feeling as a fellow mortal whose being is so magical yet fragile, right?

Second, this novel reminds me of the beauty of human existence, of how can we, as an individual, be enough to save a person whose hope is shattered and whose thoughts no longer lingers to life but clings to death. That even the simplest and most ordinary words and actions can save and give hope to someone on the verge of falling apart. That we, humans, are capable of hurting and healing each other.

Third and last, this novel reminds me of how beautiful and painful memories can be. As someone who lost people who were once part of my everyday life, it makes me happy to remember the moments that we had but it's painful once I realized that those moments were all the memories of them that I will ever have. But no matter how painful it is, I must constantly remember it because my mind is the only place where their smiles, forever frozen, and their body, healthy and alive. My mind is the place where they can live for as long as I'm here, capable of remembering.

Going back to the novel, it's not actually that very sad. It just somehow reminds me of certain yet important aspects of life. Okay, time to listen to some upbeat music!

It's rare to see a short story with good world building. Also, the story narration was fantastic, and really unique, and it really helped building an impression of how demons are in this story.

Goodness, the seventh chapter's ending broke me. But I'm really happy to see that this has a happy ending! 5 out of 5!

MC, the Demon King, summoned a mage, Arlette Hope, as a helper. Over the decades they become close. However, MC is not knowledgeable about humans and didn't realize until it was too late that a human's life span was much shorter than a demon's.

After ML passes on, MC finds a way to go back in time to find ML. MC succeeds in finding ML shortly before they originally met. ML had lost all hope and wanted to die. MC asks ML to go back with him to see how life can be worth living and ML agrees.

ML deceived MC from the start. Even though it wasn't something horrible, ML didn't confess until it became almost a death bed confession. He had decades to be honest with MC but didn't do so. The timing felt like it was ML's attempt to get rid of his guilt without having to endure the possible consequences. Makes me doubt ML's sincerity. Either way, MC is precious.

It really has been and will still be a lifetime gift for the MC, the tittle didn't lie about it. Such a heartwarming, beautiful and simple story, it has light feels, nothing too heavy, but still beautiful, love it simply.

Heartrending. Made me cry about something else other than being a corporate s*ave on a Monday morning.

First few chapters might make you doubt the main characters' goals, but author cleared them all up in a bittersweet— yet beautiful— conclusion.

Quite a short story but very nice. A demon king got into trouble with his enemies so he summoned a human mage. The summoning was incomplete, only a part of the mage could go through the summoning mirror (his hand). They both communicated this way, with DK often holding mages hand (and kissing it) and HM kept giving him advice and various products that helped demons to lead easy life. HM was a bit suspicious during some moments and DK could see it but they got on well and HM... more>> was very useful. The second part started to be increasingly more bittersweet with cute moments between both characters but also with reminders that the mage is a human so he can live only for decades (compared to centuries, maybe even eternity of demons). DK searches for a way to make a complete summon but time is flying fast and the human (hand) is getting old.

Eventually we learn that HM wasn`t actually fully a mage only an apprentice. He was blind because of accident and was living in miserable conditions. He even tried to kill himself before DK summoned him. Most of the items from him were actually created but other mages who got paid by money that DK gave as a reward. Thankfully at the end DK finds a way to complete the summoning ritual and appeares in front of HM just at the moment he wants to kill himself. Although HM doesnt remember him, DK takes him to demon world and seems fine with creating new memories with him.

Super good and bittersweet. Both characters are very sweet to each other but not 100% innocent, which I liked. I wish there was a little more, but I also like the way it ended.
