This really is such a great slice of life, and I'd call it an ABO that you don't even have to enjoy the genre to love as it's just that well written! I feel it's hard to get a genuine enemies to lovers right, but this novel accomplished it perfectly, with enough time spent actually working through the feelings of dislike and slowly developing their mutual respect.

The relationship between the two leads at the start was unexpected, with MC technically being ML's boss despite being 5 years younger, and the... more>> unrequited love of MC actually being for his sort of best friend (and a very messy entanglement at that). As they fall in love, their relationship goes through some intense highs and lows, but the drama somehow never felt overdone or cliche.

The tone of this novel is very atmospheric, and character emotions are extremely poignant and raw to read. Despite the sometimes somber and introspective tone, the author also works in a lot of brilliant situational comedy that had me inexplicably dying of laughter from both amusement and embarrassment, and it's made so much better by just how effortless the comedy feels. There's so many chaotic and almost absurd moments, for example:

imagine getting interrupted by your ex-husband showing up to drop off your kid during your very first hook up with an ex-coworker/boss while said hook up is still naked on your couch??? Save them both from this hell situation lmaooo

The characters themselves are also so inherently funny, and every character is likable to some degree, even those that might otherwise be labeled villains. Though the main two get the most development and were undoubtedly the driving forces of this novel, side characters are also quite nuanced and layered, with interesting motivations and actual personalities. The side couple is the main one from author's other novel Lost Love, and I do have to say, their story sounds way more dogblooded and exhausting than the main couple in this novel. Probably won't be reading that one haha

Will add a slight TW for MC's disordered relationship with food and his own body, as while he doesn't have a defined eating disorder, he definitely has a lot of characteristics of one. Being disordered around food is so normalized that it's really nothing extreme or surprising, but just something to be aware of.

Also can't lie but during the smut scenes I had to mentally substitute the word c*otch for literally any other word in my head because damn if c*otch is the unsexiest word there is hahaha other than that though, have to give it a 10/10, seriously some top tier smut, unexpectedly some of the best I've read in danmei. The two leads actually equally enjoy and participate in their s*xual relationship and desire one another wholeheartedly. There's almost no coercive elements (it did get a bit rough between them in one scene) and consent is always present between the two, which is especially rare for an omegaverse novel. My standards for good smut have somehow been elevated lol

I am being so real when I say I would read another 100 chapters of this. The ending came out of nowhere and I went through a whole grieving process that the novel was over. Endings are hard to get right with slice of life, and this one was a bit rushed for my taste. Luckily, we do have extras! Ahh I'm so sad it's over though, what a beautiful story. <<less

Beautifully done. This is a story between two people searching for the meaning of love.

Xu Jiale (alpha, top) x Fu Xiaoyu (omega, bottom)

I'd say the perspective often changes from Xu Jiale to Fu Xiaoyu, as the author tried to show their own problems and how they solved them, like XJL's problem with his ex-wife and child, and FXY's problem with his omega father. There was no exaggeration about the characters' appearances (like you often see in many danmei novels).

There was no extremely evil character that deserved heavy punishment like... more>> extreme bankruptcy, being exiled from town, etc. Each character felt human with their own imperfections. I can describe the story as sweet, sometimes sour, and bitter, and later back to warm sweetness. Totally recommended.

Also, the smut was AMAZING I kinda didn't expect it from a webnovel published in Gongzicp :D <<less

this might be one of the only few times where I truly believe that the synopsis doesn't do justice to the novel—because the experience of reading the entirety of this novel within this week (which is my birthday week btw) goes above and beyond what was written in this NU page.

if you're planning to read this, here's a bit of a disclaimer for a common pet peeve in readers so that you'll push through despite encountering it: although it was written to function as a standalone novel, at least 1/4... more>> of the chapters in this novel is heavily connected to another novel written in the same universe, called Last Love. If you're going into this blind like me, a great sense of dissonance will be felt for the first few chapters of the story, even in moments where context is given. It can't be helped. Why? Because that sense of dissonance can be divided in two categories—natural, because it contains minor characters who have their own novel, and deliberate, because I believe that the author is also writing in a way that fosters that feeling.

Fu Xiaoyu and Xu Jiale are the bestfriends of the minor characters with their own novel, and in comparison to that high-stakes, dogblooded plot, this story is on the calmer side. But don't be fooled—this is a slice of life, and they take the slicing seriously, because once you get invested they'll treat your heart like a slab of pork in a meat slicer.

as the story reveals itself, you'd notice that Fu Xiaoyu belongs to the natural type of dissonance, while Xu Jiale belongs to the deliberate. While Fu Xiaoyu constantly attempts to place himself in an already full-slot narrative of Han Jiangque and Wen Ke, Xu Jiale, despite having the access to participate in their fiasco, always think in a perspective of a bystander.

it feels pathetic. It feels hypocritical. It makes the reading experience of the first part of the story (which for me is the events before Fu Xiaoyu's heat incident) unpleasant. But this is their starting point. This is the complete introduction of who they are before the plot does its plotting, and if you can't swallow this hard pill down as a reader, the story won't really hit you the way it should.

the author has a good grasp of human imperfection, and they really know how to put it in writing. The translator also got their back, because it never gave off the feeling that something was lost in translation. All characters have layers to them. The dialogue is diverse, with great usage of comedic timing, cliché lines, poetic moments, and just purely straightforward conversations to drive the story forward. I'm not even halfway through the year, and yet I already know that this will be one of the final contenders for the Novel of the Year Award in my brain (for context, the one that "won" last year was To Rule in a Turbulent World, and the one that "won" in 2022 was First-Class Lawyer).

to close this long ass review, i'll put a longer list of spoiler-filled annotations that I failed to incorporate below:

• the theme of forgiveness in this story is impeccable. I love how Xu Jiale and Fu Xiaoyu never received a clear explanation for all the neglect and physical/psychological trauma they received from their parents and yet they! Eventually! Turned! Out! Okay! Fu Jing never said "I'm sorry" to Fu Xiaoyu, and Murong Jinya never truly spoke about his infidelity to Xu Jiale, but even then, they eventually obtained closure because forgiveness is not synonymous to their peace of mind. The apology they used to need before eventually became unessential in the face of a better life. This is just one out of the many scenarios that I appreciated, because the themes of forgiveness between Xu Lang-Murong Jinya, Xu Jiale-Jin Chu, and Xu Jiale-Fu Xiaoyu are also great.

• the characterization of our male lead, Xu Jiale, is so good! People say this a lot in other stories, but this is the first time where I can wholeheartedly say it with my chest puffed out! He's such a know-it-all btch, loves to portray a playboy persona, but is also one of the kindest people i've known in a written format. I love how I can say so much about him the same way I can say so much about fu xiaoyu. He's tenderhearted, his love language is acts of service, and his favorite love language is a mix between words of affirmation and physical touch!! I love the fact that I never truly liked him for fu xiaoyu because for the most part of the story my babygirl is not prepared to deal with a hermit like him, but as a person? I truly liked him.

• I know I just said that I initially didn't like them for each other, but their chemistry is insaneeee like don't get me started. I love that the starting point of their s*xual relationship is a mixture of tropes (alpha-omega attraction; forced heat incident) and personal preferences (xiaoyu likes his attention to detail; jaile is attracted to people with cat-like attributes). You can tell that they had "great s*x" not because they're so skilled or because they live in an ABO world, but simply because they enjoy doing it. I love the bit where they talk about the keywords they type in p**nsites and fu xiaoyu answered "romantic s*x" (he truly is one of the girlies.. Like I was literally screaming in glee when I read this lmaoo it's like meeting an animal of your kind in the wilderness). I love that they're kinky and silly and funny and romantic and have emotional baggage and they know it!! Blessed are the couple who see their partners for who they truly are.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I'm writing this review haven't not completely finished the novel, so I'm well aware that parts of my review may not be entirely accurate and things I have disliked may be resolved later in the novel.

HOWEVER.

In this sea of 4+ star reviews, I thought it might be helpful to provide a (fully biased, I'll admit) negative perspective on at least the beginning of this novel. Something I wish I would have seen before I started, because the ML really, really pissed me off - so much so that... more>> I don't even want to bother finishing the book.

There's a lot of praise for the ML in other reviews, but in my opinion, he's a f*cking douche bag. I find him pretentious and entirely hypocritical - he looks down on Omegas who diet to maintain a good figure (so the MC, in passing) and high level Omegas who sleep with Alphas to move up the ranks/get rich by using their pheromones (again, something he likens the MC to despite having no evidence that the MC has/will/is doing such a thing) but he's okay with his Omega ex husband who cheated on him when the two of them have a child? He even mentions that sleeping with the MC might bring his ex back to him - dude, if you like getting cucked that bad just stay in your own lane and don't drag the MC into this.

He also acts like some big intellectual but comes off as a massive jackass armchair psychologist who gets his rocks off exposing the MC's trauma. Oh my god, the sheer audacity had me punching walls. The way the scene's written doesn't make it seem like that big of a deal, but imagine sitting your drunk, vulnerable coworker down in a crowded restaurant after that coworker had a massive argument with their long standing, secret crush (that you know about by the way) and forcing them to admit/exposing that they have issues with their parents and on s*x as a whole. All out of what seems like 80% morbid curiosity and 20% actual concern. I hated that scene so, so much.

I just can't with how the ML acts like such a f*cking know it all, how he's so callously intent on delving into the MC's trauma. All the reviews are saying the ML is a kind person - I don't see that, I just see a f*cking douche bag who occasionally shows glimpses of being friendly guy. How the side characters treat the MC isn't any better - maybe I'm misinterpreting this scene (I am not going back to reread the novel to fact check if this is 100% true, it's not good for my blood pressure, so take the following words with a grain of salt) but the MC's ex-crush (also CEO of the company) takes a money losing, disadvantageous contract to get revenge for his Omega, gets upset when the MC basically says "that's f*cking dumb, think about how the entire company, including me and all of the other works, are going to get f*cked over by this decision", demotes him even though this is a company they've established together and he was just looking out for everyone, and then that Omega has the audacity (again, with the sheer audacity! Have some f*cking shame, dear side characters) to show up at his doorstep asking him to review the material for a product launch because no one can do jack sh*t without him.

AGH! I don't care that I'm cherry picking the worst parts of the novel and that I'm not being objective in this review, sue me. I hate it. It pisses me off. My day has actively gotten worse having read this novel. A 1.5 stars. <<less

When I read the synopsis, I was very very hesistant on reading the novel. Divorce Ml's with children is an uncomfortable read because of all the underlying family drama that comes with it. Other than that, it is a fantastic story of realistic characters. The main characters have so many flaws that it makes them stand out to me more that typical ML and MC's u find in other stories.

ONE BIG CON:

I hate the side couple. Especially, Han Jiangque (side ML). So damn annoying. I wish I can kick him... more>> in the face. He's someone that acts with his emotions and not his damn brain. Sure, he is kinda forgetful because of the accident that caused damaged to his head. But still wtf, why does he act like this. He is 30+ something jeezus. His actions have always ALWAYS lead to someone getting hurt. Whether indirectly or directly. Physically or mentally. Damn, he has done nothing to impress me accept make me hate him even more. He's a man child who has literally never heard the word NO!

Wen Ke (side MC) is also whatever to me as well. Sure, sad background, villain ex boyfriend, but it overshadows all the struggles the MC had faced in his childhood and everything leading up to the present. I really really really loathe the fact that everyone had to make it apparent that Wen Ke's suffering is higher than that of MC's. Makes it appear that MC is worthless in comparison to someone like Wen Ke who has a super rich boyfriend with a good background to take care of him.

I never understood how Wen Ke and Han Jiangque allowed all the crazy B.S. That happened before they got back together. It never gets explain.

FFS, if Han Jiangque stopped acting like a child and Wen Ke was perhaps mentally and emotionally stronger, MC a wouldn't have to waste his 6 DANG YEARS. 6 YEARS of hard painstaking work.

Domestic ab*se is a thing and I know I shouldn't berate Wen Ke for his suffering; but why should MC be dragged into their damn mess. It made MC have to struggle for so damn long to just be loved by someone. To find someone to treat him right. Luckily, ML got divorced in time I guess? Still doesn't sit right with me tho.

SO, F.U. Side couple. I like the MC and ML very much. But I can't reread this knowing you two exist. I know I'm petty, but I like the MC a lot. He shouldn't be sidelined multiple times for these two. <<less

Well, at first I was somewhat deceived, as I thought it would be simple story about cool omega and down to earth divorced alfa. I expected for both of them to be experienced. But it was my least favourite virg*n and experienced divorced with child. Not to mention Xu Jiale at first is more on hypocritic side, where he go to another person inner world being uninvited while he himself is no hurry to open up himself.

But author made them so alive in their imperfections that I can't help but... more>> be invested into this story until I read it to the end.

I liked that love stories actually (there second couple of their best friends) where both parties involved. For Fu Xiaoyu and Xu Jiale their love story was possible both for Xu Jiale kindness and Fu Xiaoyu stubbornness. Both not perfect and with psychological problems those roots from childhood for both of them. And whats important there's friendship and thats important for both of them, and there's communication. Not perfect, they have their problems, there would be even dog blood and wife chasing to crematorium. Basically that book is full of almost every trope I dislike, but author made it so alive, that I can't help but read it until the end. I was full of emotional ups and downs, I was angry with them, I was disappointed at them and distressed for them, and finally I was happy for them. It not something I would re-read, but I don't think I wasted my time reading it.

Also it had s*x, and I do remind you reader, that chinese strongly feel that passion=torture. Well all that passionate s*x scenes feels so for me. But both parties involved loved it so... <<less

This book is absolutely amazing. The plots and themes that follow through out the book was honestly amazing.

I was reading this book, when there was something bad that happen with my personal life. This novel gave me clarity and advice on how I should continue. I think even if you are not in the same situation that I was in, I still recommend this book enough. It's themes and advices can't be more meaningful enough.

The love that is build between the main cp grew from a small spark into this... more>> roaring flame, that can't be ignite. Their love started from an accident, they understood each other through the truama and past, that they each other had experience. It's truly a perfect story to seat and read through because of the heartbreak yet wonderful love the main cp go through. The good and the bad had their own special meaning. Truly a love story for the century. <<less

I can say with 1000% confidence that this is now my current favorite ABO

Condolences to ShaoWang, but you have fallen to being number 2 because this.. was exceptional.

If you came in for an objective review, apologies in advance because this is just plain bias & me rambling nonstop about how freaking good this novel is. ABO, divorced alpha, proud icy omega, ENEMIES TO LOVERS??? I ate this novel up.

ABO-themed novels are a hit or miss. The societal constructs are either well-written or downright tr*sh with a lot of dubcon/noncon... more>> situations. ELA is one of those few that can make me go... wow maybe it's not a complete nightmare to be in an ABO. Call me delulu but it's the truth. There's no major role disparities here & although there are still incredibly scummy alphas & the conventional belief that omegas should be obedient little flower vases, the world-building still stands out to be one of the best ones that I've read in an ABO setting.

Now the main CP: Fu Xiaoyu & Xu Jaile. I savored their romance. Second-chance romance has a sweet soft spot in my heart. Their ups & downs brought me immense frustration, tears, & simultaneous serotonin. I love how incredibly human & flawed both are.. especially when dealing with their respective traumas & fears. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized both characters had immense character development. It wasn't just about Fu Xiaoyu breaking out of his emotional constraints & finally falling in love, but also about Xu Jaile going above & beyond his "safety corner" & pursuing happiness. The amount of times that my throat constricted due to angst is immeasurable but this is the kind of angsty drama I want because it makes the fluff all the more sweet.

CAN'T FORGET THE SMUT THOUGH. You will not be disappointed.

All in all, an incredible & worthwhile read if you enjoy romance, angst, & character development. <<less

Translation, 10 out of 10. Story, 10 out of 10. Very fast paced and such a satisfying read. Author has an amazing way with words. Very quickly, I was invested. If you are tired of cliched ABO love stories, this ML will make you sit up straight and pay attention. For me, he is the reason why this is such a breath of fresh air.

My issues with this novel are 100% personal. I find the word "c*otch" jarring and inaccurate whenever I expect to see words for the male g**italia.... more>> It doesn't make sense, e.g. I don't think the c*otch secretes precum. If translation can make this change, to any other word, my vote is good old pen*s or even organ, it'd be perfection. Other than that, the MC cat metaphors got very tiring towards the end. I'd like the MC so much more if the author kept that to a minimum towards the pregnancy chapters. I get it, he feels wronged, he's grumpy cat, he's embarrassed. As the pants wearer in the relationship, he demands coddling. Don't we all wish for an Alpha that loves us that much to put up with that? Lord, if I'm worthy, please transmigrate me to this novel so I can be the MC.

I can't tell you how many novels I skimmed through or stopped after a few chapters after I finished this one. Being boring is not a crime, but if it's boring and the translation is terrible? I just can't. This one is a must read. I also recommend Tattoo, which is another mature yaoi I read a long time ago that made me appreciate this tag. A <<less

I went in expecting it to be a hard angst--dog blood, wife-chasing crematorium but it's not, and I surprisingly enjoyed it more than the ushh.

I do like how parenting struggles are pretty realistic--including how it could potentially become a reason to end a relationship--the author seems to put a lot of efforts into this, and it draws quite a lot of tears from me.

I also like how ex-lovers/ex-crushes don't really cause too many problems nor act real annoying.

The emotional parts of this novel are pretty realistic too

Really fantastic. Realistic feelings, characters are human (no one's perfect, no one's a villain), plot progress is natural. Highly recommend. I feel like the synopsis doesn't do the story justice.

This is an excellent story, the sweetness, the angst it has all of it was wonderfully written. The growth from both the MC and ML, the sweet kids and how the families were able to become closer, very heartwarming. Definitely worth the read.

I may want to add a trigger warning: broken family. If broken family issue may trigger you, you may want to stay away. As for me, I could relate so much. How he grown up feeling he is unlikeable child 😭😭, how the family relationship could be broken and imperfect, how a child could hate their parents.

Wow, I am... speechless.

I wasn't expecting this novel to hit as hard as it did to be honest, and as one of the people who witnessed the birth of knotting as a kinkmeme to the media genre it is now, I'm so glad to have given this novel a chance.

What I love the most about this novel is that take it out of the ABO 'verse and everything about the plot — the conflicts, resolutions, effects on the world and the characters — still makes sense. It' s not ABO... more>> 'verse such that everything hinges on the fact that they're alpha, beta, or omega. No, this novel is fundamentally about each character as people, not their gender. The most it made impact was the fact that all the alphas in the novel felt, in a way, beholden (and also, in Xu Jiale's case, guilty?) that only omegas could bring life into the world, which is one burden they can't take away from them.

If you put this whole novel in a non-ABO setting with Fu Xiaoyu as a young, openly gay man in power, in the position he is in in the novel, it would still make sense. Wen Ke as an orphan from a lower econimic class forced into an abusive relationship with his ex; Xu Jiale as a divorcee with an adopted son; I could go on, but the gist is: this novel doesn't need to be ABO to make sense and putting it in such setting just makes it that much more... heart-wrenching.

Also, damn, I wasn't expecting like 20 chapters of meat but THANK YOU for giving it to us, anyway. Praise be thy translator for making it read like your typical smut posting instead of an overly verbose narrative. <<less

I came here for some cheap AO fluff, but what I got was toptier angsty yet healing romance between two lost adults.

Genuinely one of my favorite love stories of all time, even when counting non-danmei stories I've read.

From the initial friction to the gradual affection, from falling in love to sweet romance, from a devastating breakup to a satisfying reconciliation, this story has it all.

The characters, from the main leads to the sides, felt so alive. None of them felt extra and each had a role in the growth of the leads and their relationship.

They made mistakes, big ones, small ones. Some hypocrisy, some wisdom. They got hurt, got heartbroken. But the love they shared... ah, it was so beautiful.

I don't even have the words right now to perfectly describe this story because I'm still basking in the afterglow of their romance and growth together. <<less

I'm crying while typing this haha. I can't believe it's already over. I want to see more, I want more of their world and story. I can't get enough and it's frustrating. I love all of them.

Their emotions felt so real that it affected me so much. I can sympathize with each character. Each of them have reasons for their actions and they just want to feel love, be in love and find out what is love. There's no real villain in this story that I can't even point and... more>> vent my frustrations to a character.

The character I most feel sorry about is Nanyi, my babyyy. A child of a divorced parent. He truly won't have a complete set of parent. I know it is better than being locked in a doll house, playing family with a parent that is just forcing each to be together for their child and is not happy. But I still can't help but feel bad for him. I love this child, he is innocent just accidentally caught in this unfortunate situation.

I was waiting at that end of the story to see is if Jin Chu will remarry. I really hope he will. I hope he will find love and be happy for real, the reason he divorced Xu Jiale in the first place. But unfortunately, it's not stated in the novel if he found another love.

This is just me nitpicking but ahhh why did they spent all the extra on pregnancy huhu. I was hoping to more of other situations like baby Zhifei growing up, Nanyi, THEIR FCKNG WEDDING! Omg <<less

I really love this one, there's a combination of fluff and angst. This is not your typical story where ML's first love is the MC, the ML here is a divorced alpha with a very cute child from his previous marriage.

The roller coaster of emotions will hit you really hard! From colleagues, to lovers, to temporary separation and finally getting back together and forming their own family, you will feel the struggle and pain on both the MC and ML's side.

As for the parents on both side, I don't know... more>> but I'm not a fan of their stories. Lol. The side characters exist as a deco, no more no less. The other side couple, I feel bad for the MC, good thing that he finally found someone to take care of him.

For the main couple, of course I love how the MC is not a push over type, he's very smart and knows what he wants. The ML, he's very doting! He takes care of the MC really well, you can see that on the extra chapters (MC pregnancy). Although not a fan of the extra here, but hey, it showcases how much love and understanding the MC gets from the ML.

Special shoutout to Nanyi, he's such a sweetie! Very smart and adorable and very mature for his age! <<less

I thoroughly enjoyed the emotional ups and downs as the two leads went through personal growth and discovery, and the gradual development of their romantic relationship. Many heart twinges, some tears, some laughs.

A few things about this novel makes me struggle to place this amongst my favourites...

It's kind of an updated version of an old school ABO setting, but has its roots firmly in the traditional ABO personas. I don't like weak, soft leads and in most ways the MC does breakthrough the old stereotype, but at the same time... more>> a lot of the characters' behaviors are motivated by the novel world's societal stereotypes that closely follow the traditional ABO stance. It still works, the possessiveness, soft to him-hard to others tropes are executed enjoyably and very engaging--been a while since I've binge read something and I stayed up to read most of this at a go. But at times, it's on the verge of being too much for me, especially in terms of how there seems to be an expectation on the alpha ML to take care of the omega MC and it's just 1) in built into his character 2) taken for granted. That being said, it does deal with certain stereotypes quite well, like the mental burden on expectation to have children.

Other things that irked me, but could be a personal thing, haha:

How dare you call your pregnant omega chubby/fat? I would have thought MC would be so offended given his childhood trauma/backstory and it would stop happening, but it continued and was taken as a term of endearment??

Also, LOL, please just use c. ck and not c*otch during smut. Tail is also weird. It's funny and spoils the mood, hahaha.

I liked the side characters, but the side couple's story was very rushed (ah, I see it's probably because they have their own novel).

Although I usually prefer gong-chasing novels, and this did not really get there (a bit, but not that satisfying), the MC was very refreshing in his directness and going for what he wanted. Their emotional growth and figuring out things about themselves and what they want from a partner was very well done and made me feel melancholic and retrospective and genuinely happy for them when they finally got their happy ending.

Their familial relationships were complicated, and had a realistic impact on the leads' characters which I appreciated. Although it did end up somewhat on a happy note with some reunion, there was no clear resolution and at first it was upsetting to me--because the MC's father especially deserves to get slapped a hundred times with how he's behaving, no excuse, seriously; but actually it's also quite reflective of how life is, sometimes when it comes to family, there could be underlying tensions but you can still be there for each other.

Sufficient fluff, smut 4.5/5. Wish there was more explicit smut in the extras, oh well.

Would definitely re-read, but almost favourite. <<less

I loved it, but I'm giving it a weak 4 stars out of 5, bumped up because the translation is overall excellent. I honestly WISH I could give it a 5, but I'm disappointed with the story's wasted potential and how the author handled some plot points and character relationships. I had a feeling that I should be managing my expectations by the midpoint of the novel, but given how you could tell the mature thought processes of the author in how they handled a lot of things in the... more>> story, and how they wrote about the main characters' thoughts and goals and motives, I couldn't help looking forward to how the story would tie some loose ends up by the end, even well into the extras--and was unfortunately disappointed.

Here are some elements that I loved or disliked from the novel without being too spoiler-y:

LIKES

    • I love love LOVE both the MC and the ML. They're interesting in their own right, and they have personalities and histories outside of each other. They feel real. They go about their issues in mature, realistic ways even when they're fumbling about in unfamiliar territory.
    • The MC and ML's relationship is FANTASTIC. I love their dynamics, so healthy and literally #couplegoals. Most of the conflict in the novel is internal, i.e. ironing out the issues in their lives in order to provide a sturdy foundation for their relationship to grow on. Their communication is in place, and even when they don't communicate, the author made it so that they could each interpret each other's behaviors and overall attitude to arrive at the correct conclusion in responding to each other's needs and wants.
    • God-tier ML, created from some magical unicorn cloth I wish all MLs, especially alpha MLs, could be made of.
    • MC is a shou who loves getting railed and isn't ashamed to express it!!! Even while pregnant he was worrying about how to get it on like bro what a vibe LMAO. We need more danmei shous like Fu Xiaoyu.
    • Smut is 1000/10, absolutely top tier, the kind where you could shove your hand down your pants and I wouldn't even judge you lol. There are very few danmei with smut writing styles that I like, and this novel definitely hits all the right spots (except if you don't like the couple's kinks, but in my case I fortunately do lol).
    • The author isn't obsessed with stuffing all paragraphs with descriptors on how good the characters look, or how grand their surroundings are just by the virtue of their money, which is an absolute plus in my book.
    • Omegaverse dynamics wasn't the end-all be-all of the story, and was just used to spice up the interactions between the main characters and provide some background as to how all characters became who they've become.
    • Author evidently wrote from experience regarding generational trauma, and you could see it in both the MC's and the ML's thought processes.
    • Author researched about pregnancy and birthing, mentions epidurals, describes PPD without unnecessary shame, dysmorphia during and after pregnancy, the hardships of C-section, etc. Absolutely no nonsense about having no s*x during pregnancy (one of my pet peeves in A LOT of danmei with mpreg).
    • No unnecessary jealousy. Both the MC and ML have social circles outside of each other, and have healthy, platonic relationships that neither of them weaponize against one another.
    • Story wasn't too dog-blooded, no irredeemable villains except for one side character whom the main characters dealt with by using the law (yay!).
    • Translation was excellent, definitely one of the things that pushed me to finish the story despite my misgivings about the novel.
DISLIKES

    • Like one of the other reviewers have mentioned, the story plateaus by the third quarter of the novel. It suffers from poor pacing, wherein some plot points were rushed (the side character's stories, for example) and yet other plot points were drawn out unnecessarily. There were a lot of filler chapters (particularly the ones with the side characters in it) that I wish the author just filled with the main characters' interactions.
    • The ending was abrupt, and even with the really long extras, it leaves you wanting to see more of how the MC and ML go about their relationship AFTER they figured it all out. Like after they got back together, the story would have felt more complete if we had gotten more of the honeymoon phase. I thought that the pregnancy extras should've been in the main story, and the main story's ending should've been part of the extras, both timeline-wise and significance-wise. I wanted to read more of their everyday lives after they got back together, the mundane and the funny points, and I wanted more smut in the extras.
    • Contrary to popular opinion, I feel like the breakup was unnecessary lol. There was nothing they couldn't have solved while together that necessitated that they have to break up. The MC knew this, and a couple of chapters after the breakup, the ML realized this too. It was a dog-blooded plot point that was used to add more angst to the story, and it just happened to push the plot along the way.
    • The side couple and side characters. I liked that they provided the MC and ML some healthy relationships outside of the main couple's own, but honestly? The chapters where they were the main focus were completely unnecessary imho, to the point where I just skimmed over them. Their stories weren't evenly paced, like the author can't commit to fleshing them out yet can't refrain from writing about them anyway. It's like the author wanted to provide some depth to them, but knew that if they spent even more words on the side characters the story would derail from the tracks. And so we're left with the author randomly providing scenes for the side characters, and then also randomly getting resolutions to their issues. It messed up the flow of the main story. (EDIT: Found out that the side couple's story is a whole 'nother novel by the author, which was written before this one. My point still stands however; the two stories run adjacent to each other, so Evil Love Appears should have been able to stand on its own without having to read the other story to get any context. It also seems like this was the author's better work judging by the ratings and reviews for the side couple's story, so I'm not too keen on reading that one at all.)
    • It absolutely irked me how the MC's childhood ab*se was downplayed just because the side character "had it worse." There is no Olympics in trauma, and I was greatly disappointed with how the author wrote about the whole situation. The only silver lining was the ML's support. The rest of them could go fck off.
    • I really dislike the side characters. The only ones I appreciated were the MC's secretary, the ML's kid, and the ML's alpha dad. I wanted the MC to go no contact with his omega dad and his alpha stepmother, and I wanted ML's parents to separate and for the alpha dad to find happiness in another marriage. Alas, even when it's an omegaverse fantasy where males can get pregnant, the author obviously wanted to maintain a touch of reality to the story.
    • The ML's kid from his previous marriage was majorly sidelined throughout most of the story. Considering how the kid was a major catalyst to the main couple's breakup, he wasn't really present in the story except from a handful of scenes (which I loved but won't go into detail about). He's such a character, so I really wanted to see more of him and how he would have interacted with the MC in later chapters. Sadly, his relationship with the MC was shallow at best, even in the extras.
    • In the author's quest to write an independent, strong-willed omega MC, I feel like we got some reverse misogyny instead? It's late and my brain isn't braining, but I wish the MC and the ML had a more equal contribution to the parenting aspect. I feel like the ML is carrying HARD.
    • Every time the translator uses 'cr0tch' instead of 'cock'..... Could've used member, could've used hot rod, could've used any other peen derivative, but no hahaha. Every single time I read that word, I just imagined the ML squeezing not only the contents of his balls, but the whole sac too into the MC's baby hole lmao. Really unfortunate word choice.
I have more things I could talk about but it's late and I'm sleepy. TL;DR if I ever read again, I'll just choose to read the chapters with only the main couple in it lol they're the best <<less

and what I really loved about this story was it has both the pov.... so we could understand what xj was going through....

this story also has word plays that..... really is amazing on how adults speak with double meaning and also it reflects on the lives of adult world and as a young adult it really helped me a lot lol
