The once-in-a-century heavy rain washed away the embankment, the water receded, and the cracked ground revealed a male body that had been sealed for many years. The investigation found that it was Jiang Xiyan, the top scorer in the college entrance examination, who disappeared ten years ago.

The criminal policeman Song Zhou, who was in charge of investigating the case, worked day and night, but he still couldn’t hold back the great sleepiness and laid down at his desk to rest.

While half asleep and half awake, he received a call. The caller claimed to be Jiang Xiyan and was being hunted down. He hoped that the police would rescue him.

Song Zhou thought that someone had the same name, but he didn’t expect that the place names mentioned by the other party were all the locations that had been demolished, and the time Jiang Xiyan mentioned was exactly three days before he was confirmed missing.

Regardless of whether it was a prank or a real occurrence, out of responsibility, Song Zhou still helped him out of trouble, but he was surprised to find that the evidence in his hand was also changing.

In other words, the other party might really be Jiang Xiyan, who died ten years ago.

—Uncle policeman, can I trust you? Can I survive?

—Yes, trust me, and trust yourself too.

—If I survive, I want to see you.

Very interested in this so far! It seems to be inspired by the TV series Signal, and the first chapter is good at showcasing that element of suspense. Good translation quality too. Looking forward to future chapters! :D

Two stars is generous.

There are typos, some sentences are wonky, of course you won't notice if the translation is good, but the original is a bit of a mess.

The story is overcomplicated.
It's not easy to make a criminal investigation believable, here it was done relatively well, with some head scratching moments.

She just went overboard with the crime, the story lost me at a certain point, when the 30th involved character was revealed, and another layer of mystery was added.
Not because it's too complicated to understand, but because it tries way too hard to be elaborate and ends up making you want to roll your eyes.
This isn't how you write crime drama, it's fanfiction-level "complex".

Then you have countless instances of the writer voicing her opinion on topics, highlighting how bad it was/is for women, and other random things, like how well Chine dealt with the pandemic (wtf?!).
None of it has any relevance, she just wanted to state her viewpoints.
That's not how you make an incorporated social commentary.

Relationships. Everyone and their mother is gay. At least everyone who plays a somewhat important role.
The romance is bad, seriously bad.
MC/ML never met, had three short phone calls, and fall in love with each other while not even being in contact, knowing nothing about each other, and in the middle of the biggest case in recent history.
They are adults, nearly 30 (at least ML, MC only later), and yet behave like highschoolers when it comes to love.
Of course there's the cliché "we are mysteriously connected" that, again, it's fanfiction-level.

Characterisation is seriously bad.
Nearly everyone acts like highschoolers, those who don't have little screen time, there's no depth to any of them, not even MC/ML.
The villains are overly evil, they have no good points, don't feel like people but empty plot devices.

I hoped it would get better later on but it gets worse instead.

I could go on, there's just so much wrong with this novel.
Which isn't surprising seeing that she's another writer who doesn't want advice or even just hear what people didn't like.

Don't waste your time if you are here for the crime-drama or want to read a mature novel.
