“Yan,” the protagonist, was brainwashed by the emperor and lived as his puppet. After finding out he was being played by the emperor, he planned to seek revenge, but collapsed due to the emperor’s might. He thought he had died, but when he woke up, he realized he had regressed to the time when he was a recruit. Whether to seek revenge on the emperor or to find his family. Average second chance story. But it feels more like Chinese cultivation novel than Korean regression novels with protagonists in control of every situations. Not sure if it is due to translation, my understanding or the author themselves; the story seems to be retconed constantly, at least in the early camp story arc. So it can ruin immersion.

Spoiler

For example, in first few chapters, it sounds like empire kidnapped kids into inhuman training camp to brainwash them but then it turned out nobles' sons and daughters willingly joined the camp to get recognition. This can create contradiction. Then in around chapter 20 it turned out that empire bought the kid from s*ave traders?

[collapse]

The author seemed to try to create morally gray characters and situations for the impression of deep plots and mature characterization but instead of designing their personalities and plots carefully, it feels more like randomly throwing negative traits and later positive traits on the wall and see if it turns gray. It doesn't feel genuine and the audience is left wondering what to make of that character or situation (at least to me).

Dropped at chapter 20. I might give this a chance later but for now, there are better defined/decisive novels. <<less

Regressed out of nowhere at the end of the line story, like most revenge story where MC need to find out the reason of many things he doesn't know even in previous timeline while seeking his own past.

The interaction mostly with the important characters, it doesn't deviate to side story like many novels, MC just focusing finding what he wanted to find while strengthening himself while at it.

Really, the story lacked extras, they don't even have lines most of the times, only description of them, or just generalization of what... more>> type of extra they are. XD

Quite good read, I won't say that it's great but it has it good points, bit in faster pace, and occasional forced progressions but still in above average range. <<less
