As an undercover agent, Xie Li is sent to Fish Island Prison with the mission to get intel on Chang Guanshan, the leader of the biggest illegal organization in the coastal city, Hong Fang(Harbor city), through his son, Chang Xiaojia. It is rumored that Chang Xiaojia was imprisoned for an alleged involvement in the r*pe/mu*der of a female police officer. He has a strange and stubborn personality and is not as easy to approach as Xie Li initially imagined. However, at this moment, Chang Xiaojia starts showing an unusual interest in Xie Li’s body.

The main couple is Xie Li x Chang Xiaojia, with a plot that may potentially involve drama and intense scenes. There might be some plot twists and misunderstandings, with the background setting being fictional.

The inspiration for this story comes from “Line Walker 4,” borrowing some character concepts but not entirely derived from it. The characters’ personalities are different. Please refrain from associating real actors with the characters since the author does not have specific visual images while writing; they are simply drawn to the background setup.

The story is expected to be relatively short and it will have a happy ending.

This is a refreshing read. Xiaojia has severe trauma, which makes him behave like a child at times, and has spurts of violence. It's different from most novels where the main characters are perfect and normal. I actually found myself relating to Xiaojia, I totally get the insecurity and pain that comes with falling in love with a straight man. Which makes me wonder if the author is male, most female danmei authors don't really understand the angst between gay men, and instead write stories about omegaverse mpreg. Which is... more>> cool, I guess women can relate to that but yeah. It definitely struck some cords in me and got me crying a few times, but it was good, it's a HE so I felt like I got to vicariously live through their love story. My only complaint is that it was too short. The beginning felt like it was set up to be a really good long story, but it got rushed towards the end. The side characters are all interesting, and the author could have went more into their backstory. The MC and ML also could have had a lot more drawn out push and pull drama similar to the novel "Beloved Enemy".

Spoiler

The plot is simple, straight police officer goes undercover to take down criminals, falls in love with the gay son of the crime leader. MC is the gong, ML is the shou.

Thanks for translating this. I'd love to read more of the author's works if anyone would like to translate more of them. There are so much transmigration novels these days, finding a gem like this is quite rare. <<less

I'm not very good with words, much less words that don't involve spoilers, so I'll just leave a bunch of random comments with spoilers.

I liked the story, and I rate it here as 5 stars because it's good and I don't want it to lower its rating, however in my heart I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I feel like I didn't really understand how the relationship developed. I mean, almost everything is from the MC's point of view and I understand more or less the reason why he fell in love with the ML but I have to say that I don't really understand at what point I can say that the ML fell in love, since At the beginning, for example, he is a little obsessed with his scar and I don't know if the author forgets that because although (ML) says at the end that he already knew the identity of the MC's police officer because of something that happened when he was 13 years old that he had to to do with a robbery they leave it up to interpretation -- and let's say that it is not at all serious or a matter of importance to many but those small details that are left to free interpretation or ambiguity really leave me with a bad taste in my mouth, Because throughout the entire reading the ML maintains an attitude that I would say is "Tibia", he appears dependent but at the same time he distances him for several chapters and I feel that in a certain way their relationship does not advance much either.

Another point is regarding the secondary characters, those who are ultimately important and give the final evidence to 'catch' the ML's father - whose names I don't remember - I didn't really understand what they were doing, I feel more like they had suddenly appeared, They would have become friends with the MC, help him in the plot and then say goodbye and disappear again, which also stresses me out a little.

However, I must finally say that despite showing a 'discomfort' with my previous words, I really don't feel that it was a bad read despite the small 'plot holes' which I also think are minimal details which are very I usually notice in detail, I really liked what I read, reading filled me with emotions - emotions like suspense, sadness, joy, tenderness - and that is the most important thing for me and for which I give 5 stars, because I had a good time.

This needs more appreciation. Shoutout for the TL-san delivering this story. I love Jin Gang Quan’s stories. This author always make a well-fleshed characters. MC (Xie Li) is a stubborn, loyal, and devoted person, be it to his mission or to his ML (Chang Xiaojia). The first 20 chap is full of tension, feels like a soft sm*t. ML’s personality is reasonably flawed. It might be annoying on how possessive he is, but it is how he grow in that environment.

If it were not for greater good, the amount of... more>> times I want to kick MC ass cuz he wronged ML is at least beyond my fingers. Anyway the story is well-written. The conflict is interesting enough and the way author deploys the plot is believable. Important things had to be said thrice. It’s a HE, HE, HE.

Give it a go, it’s not too long. Readable in one sitting. <<less

In the hands of another BL author, this familiar undercover cop trope would be fairly predictable. But we're talking about Jin Gang Quan, who is *never* predictable, so I worried about the end till almost the end. This is another really good book written by a writer who just keeps getting better. 4.5.

It is interesting. CY mentality is... unpredictable 😅 Like a kid. He's also mysterious, wish the author delved more into him cause we never know what he's thinking. He's an interesting character.

XL did well. They have a good connection. Although I do doubt if XL really loved CY sometimes.

I was kinda interested in some other characters story but I don't think the author wrote anything on them.

It's a nice story.

Excellent translation 👍

Yes, I liked it and won't belabor the descriptions that others have given. The author keeps you guessing about some characters - are they good or bad? - As well as the mysteries - who did what? There's a satisfying wrap-up where justice was served. As for the romance, I have to echo another reviewer. While their relationship developed well, I also didn't feel as connected to their emotions and what they were feeling. I would have preferred more of a deep dive into that part of the novel. But,... more>> I really did like it. It's worth your time.

Many thanks to KnoxT who always delivers a quality translation. <<less

5 stars

This has got to be one of my most favorite reads ever. The relationship dynamic captivated me so much that I could not put down the book for hours on end, anticipating what would happen to the story and how the relationship between MC and ML would progress considering their identities, secrets, and trauma.

The relationship was a bit unhealthy at first, so it was painful to read; however, considering MC's mission and ML's environment growing up, I simply could not fault them. It's all very complex, but this just... more>> added intrigue to the novel. MC's sense of responsibility was admirable but could also be frustrating at times. It may not have been his intention, but he caused ML quite a lot of pain, regardless of reason.

ML was equally flawed, but his imperfections were what made me root for him throughout the novel. His fragility was relatable, and I strongly sympathized with his hunger for MC's love and attention considering his backstory. For that one supporting character, I'm glad that he survived and is living quite well.
Spoiler

Shi Hongqian deserved his own happy ending with his love.

[collapse]

Overall, MC and ML's happy ending was satisfying and well-deserved after the rollercoaster of events that they had to deal with. The romance as a whole had its own charm. And while the story was indeed not perfect, MC and ML made it perfect enough to my liking. <<less

I know that I like this story. But at the same time, I feel very complicated about it. I do wonder why I like it at all, because I don't enjoy seeing a shou suffer so much hardship (but I seem to have a thing for stories where the shou suffers..... back to the point) maybe it's the depth in the MC as a character, or the writing itself, I'm not quite sure. What I do know is that it's worth your reading time.

The author seems to have a peculiar... more>> writing style, and I'm sure it would have been lost if someone read it mtl, so props to the translator (This is the only story of this author that I've read so far, and I say this based on the same)

Like I said, I feel complicated about this story, but I liked it in the end, so I recommend it......

Now let me talk about some things that involve spoilers

Spoiler

I know that MC has a mission and I also know how ruthless undercover officers are (from movies, of course). But when Shou was being dragged to the dark room, screaming and crying for help, and MC did nothing..... I wanted to kill him. MC is actually a pretty well written character. But I wish there was a variation of this story where the shou's love isn't a cop. Better if it's someone on the dark side, because if I want to see a scenario where shou doesn't get badly hurt, but is pulled out of that hell anyway, that's the kind of partner who could help him with that. To let MC run away, he even went through hell all over again. Although the impact is not high on the reader because we never saw shou's POV..... just imagining it breaks my heart to pieces. Again, MC is a well written character with clear motivations and goals. But I really can't get myself to like him, given the number of times I literally wanted to kill him with the way he treated shou at times. It was very VERY frustrating.

[collapse]

Hence, I like it. But I won't say "10/10 Recommended!" Like I usually do. <<less

The story kicks off with an undercover agent (MC) bumping into a wealthy young master (ML) in the prison. That's the juicy bit; diving deeper might spoil the fun.

The narrative offers a refreshing departure from the norm, but it's not exactly a quick and easy read with its heavy vibe.

Personally, I didn't warm up to MC and ML as much as I'd hoped. The romance feels ambiguous and occasionally exasperating, with hints of an unhealthy dynamic. Though it gets better with time.

ML has trust issues and lot of childhood trauma.... more>> He is hotblooded and kind of violent and stubborn. But he is not a bad kid. MC is the matured one among the two but most of the the times we don't know the words that come out of MC towards or regarding ML are genuine or not.

Despite these complexities, the story grips you, fueling a desire to see how their journey unfolds toward an eventual, albeit hard-won, happy ending.

Overall it was an engaging read. <<less
