Become a Black Screen in a Novel

My favorite novel is complete.

“How to survive in a superhuman school”, abbreviated as “super massacre”.

It is a work in which the author enters his novel and struggles to survive.
There, I, a reader, came in. According to the author, if you look at the ending, everything gained from this place becomes a reality, but if you die on the way, it’s all in vain.

If so, the survivors would have to live till the end. And take everything they can.

No matter how bad the original story is, no matter how many people die, you persevere in hiding.

……In the end, if I kill the Demon King, I win.

In concept, pretty cool. In execution, bluntly, pretty shit.

It is one of those novels where the author has decided to leave the reader with as minimal information as possible, that is fine (usually bad when translating to english since you need to make sure you get the little information across in a different language). But, this author has forgone even the minimum required to make the actual story being told legible. Leading to me needing to interpret answers that I shouldn't need to using a combination of chapters.

There is little... more>> explanation of how the "Character Creation System" works past exchanging "CP" (character points) for... stuff? There is no explanation on who the MC we are following is. Little explanation on his motives past "if I can get power then I will basically be god when I go back". There is basically no explanation how the in universe power system works.

The perspective is completely inconsistent not helped by the fact the translators are not properly taking it into account perspective (the amount of "I"s when it clearly isn't the MC in the sentence is amazing, or it could be the rest of the sentence is wrong which is worse) and even if we are not meant to rate base of translators this novel is just one of those that is going to be sh*t translated unless they put extra work to not only translate the sentences but the actual meanings it wants to come across.

Then coming from an actual novel perspective, the writing is pretty bad. There are pretty interesting "takes" (?) on certain concepts which then link to what is going on in the chapter but it essentially boils down to a constant "because the author said so". The character interactions are just... sh*t and they have no personality and the bare minimum of thought and the few conversations there are a very weird, not helped by the translation not being the best.

I will explain some of the concepts within the novel here so anyone who still wants to read could be able to understand it better (note these are half-interpretations using whatever info I could get), these are not really spoilers I would say, but just in case they will be in the spoiler boxes.

The character creation system:

Spoiler

Using "CP" gains from causing influence onto the story/world, specifically through: existing; building relationships with others (more influential that "other" the more cp) ; or, causing/participating in a story event/moment (same rule as before with who is part of that event/moment being more influential or not) - You can convert it into a "superpower" which are basically like quirks in My Hero Academia, but you can seemingly have multiple as a normal thing. And superpowers grow by using them to their limits. Growth being indicated by a raise in rank

For our MC, he uses this in order to gain the "Oath" skill which then uses it in tandem with the system to do stuff.

Oath Skill/Superpower

Spoiler

Gotten through the Character Creation System, by giving a cost and/or willingly taking a restriction you can then take a somewhat related upside. In essence it is equivalent exchange, although more vague.

(i am not explaining everything he does with it because I genuinely cannot remember all of them)

This is immediately used in order to remove the MC's lust until he can defeat the Demon King in exchange for getting immortality afterwards. (The link coming from the idea that lust/immortality are linked in many legends). This is obviously so when he returns to his world he is immortal, and removes the downside of what he does later.

He then sacrifices his body and superpowers he currently has to increase oath enough it gets to A rank. (believe it actually gets to b and he does the next thing to get to A but that doesn't matter)

He then uses the fact the CCS (character creation system) gives him 1 CP for simply existing and essentially gives up an amount of CP in the future in order to gain the skills he wants now. Essentially, using "Oath" as a way to collect the CP he would get in the future with his existence now to use the in CCS. This seems to have the drawback of directly cutting away at the life he takes away since the gain on CP is linked to him being alive, so when he is noy able to collect CP for that day, he will simply cease to exist, this is obviously countered by the first oath however.

Most important skills he gets is "Presence/Awareness Distortion" which is basically a slight hypnotism or stealth-ing and giving up any form of good/bad luck in exchange for simply getting the neutral outcome (this is vague and a bit s*upid though, since how does that work).

There is also him "sacrificing" (giving up) the chance to kill the 2nd MC of the original novel and then promise to not hurt him at all until the end (which would increase his influence in the world immediately) in order to gain influence overtime and increase his CP over the period until the Demon King dies (essentially giving up immediate CP from causing an event in order to gain CP from increasing the value of his existence)

He later proceeds to make timed sacrifices to gain skills/superpowers for those same time periods. (Like "I will not lie for 1 day" in order to get "people trust you more for 1 day")

Actually story our MC is in

Spoiler

The story our MC is in is actually another story about an author falling into their book (think The Novels Extra) so there are 2 people with the CCS (character creation system) one being the author and the other being our MC.

In the original novel the author falls into the world of his own book as a very weak extra, after realising so he immediately collects an item/power that would go to the villain and increases his relations with the original MC in the novel he wrote and all the characters he wrote in a kind of protecting way (since these people are basically his creation) , it is actually very "The Novel Extra"-like. And eventually deals with the Demon King.

The MC in the novel, in the novel the novel we are reading is based in (lol) is simply your basic hero MC... that's it.

Our MC actually doesn't have much care for the main cast wanting to work in parallel with his own work knowing he can take his powers back, he simply wants to become as strong as possible to maximise his gain and the actual story doesn't matter as long as it doesn't end too soon. There are a few characters that do matter however:

Sword girl. I forgot her name... reason the MC doesn't like her is she has a level of mind-reading and pre-cognition which whilst uncontrolled does allow her intuition to be very sharp and she would be able to tell the MC is pretty evil.

Nothing really else as of chapter 15...

I struggle to understand the main character's perspective.

He enters his favorite novel, but goes out of his way to not enjoy it.

He's willing to sacrifice a great deal at the start not for power, but to reach the starting line for a chance at obtaining power.

Yet, there's no background shown to explain why he's willing or how he's able to experience such extreme pain for the optimal solution. Heck, we don't even know that the pain was necessary to achieve the protagonist's goal, since... well... we don't really know... more>> what his goal is. It would really only be possible for someone to do that to himself if he had a really tough past and/or a strong need for power, but the protagonist is just a blank slate.

In the end, the first four chapters were solely dedicated to character creation via self-mutilation, which doesn't exactly fill me with hope that the story will be anything but a ruthless serial killer called a protagonist going out of his way to kill random people then making up excuses for the reader after the fact based on the original story, all without any real purpose. <<less

I think the author is ashamed of his own premise. There is no positive world building, motivation or characterization present. MC just wants to bulldoze the novel for fun/to become God. It's really weak since he isn't a written well.

The MC is just so ready to abandon the story. In less than 10 chapters he detaches himself from both novel MCs, the power system and the academy. Constantly talking about how he hates the novel MC or thinks the powers are s*upid. Did he even like the novel he is... more>> now in?

I clearly love the premise more than the author. Since I'm here for the premise and he doesn't want to be. Bad writing, worse execution.

*Also both the translations and website are HORRIBLE. Use another site to read this* <<less

This novel is amazing. The MC has exactly the kind of pragmatic, machavellian personality I love and willing to sacrifice a lot in order to clear the game (aka kill the demon king) and gain unparalleled power. Let's go!
