The novel have lots of potential but the translation made it bland. I agree with the review. MC is called "the girl" which is unpleasant to hear. Sometimes money saving is refereed as dowry saving as well as calling one maid, servant. So many issues which makes reading monotonous.

Also there is no link to the next or previous chapters on the buttons she provides at the end of the chapter.

I have to continuously come to nu and go to the chapters, it made my reading experience bad.

Translator should work on... more>> these to get better ratings. About the story it's fully cooking story. ML appeared twice or thrice in these 30 chapters which makes it un enjoyable. Let's see how it develops in future <<less

Hi Everyone, translator here. I took the chance with this book because I loved the description of cooking as well as the cases they solve together (which is coming up later). The other thing I like is the character of the ML and the FL. The FL is a time-traveler but not c*cky and full of "I-am-from-modern-world-so-I-know-the-best" attitude. She adjusts to the world she is in and only dares to do things that don't look out of the way in her world. I also like his mother and cousin sister both of whom are quite gutsy.

Now coming to the reviews about my translation. First of all, thank you for taking the time and leaving a review. I have taken your points and trying to rectify my mistakes. And yes I am just re-editing the MTL (and using AI where it is too complicated to understand) because I can't read Chinese (though I have started distinguishing some characters frequently used). I am doing it because I loved the novel and saw that no one was doing it. The same is true with my other translations. I try to find the recipes if possible, as I am a great fan of the translator Kitchenovel and I am trying to do it like her. And I love using Bing AI and creating fun images for certain chapters (it is such fun).

This is a great novel for those who enjoy food content. The translator does a great job at translating including pictures of food mentioned and links to their recipes.

The description above says wife but she is kept as a mistress. But in fact they have a pure relationship between master and subordinate. ML keeps her outside in order to deter the gay rumors that are spreading about him and his family from pestering him about marriage.

I like the story, it's centered on food. Not much is going on in the novel, so it's a pretty relaxing slice of life story. The pacing is realistic, the FL is not an OP Mary Sue which is always appreciated.

Personally, the translation feels wonky to me. I don't know if it's MTL or not, but I can't immerse myself fully in the story because some parts are awkward to read. I feel like the translator could work on this or hire an editor,... more>> because the novel has a lot of potential.

For example, adjectives are being repeated in a sentence and it makes no sense (paraphrased: "to be proficient, she needs to be proficient."). The FL is ranked higher in the novel's hierarchical structure, so her maids and servants act accordingly. It's weird for them to refer to their mistress as "the girl." Why not at least call her "Miss Su" or "Lady Su." Moreover, in Chinese, they tend to refer to themselves in the third person. In English it just sounds awkward. So maybe use a different way to at least allude to the sentence structure, such as "I, this s*ave, think that blablabla..."

These are some of the parts I think could be improved upon. Of course, I am thankful for the translation. And another thing I personally dislike is the AI generated pictures. It adds no value to the story I much prefer the personal pictures and food videos at the bottom of each chapter. <<less

It's an excellent foodie novel. The plot also picks up towards the latter half of it, but it's still relatively chill overall; if you don't like reading about food, probably not for you. The food descriptions are great.

It's been a while since I've read it, and the ML shows up quite a lot later on, but not much at the beginning. Slow burn, yes?

Raws: 姑娘放心，我们这就去。

"Guniang" is the term used, and it can be translated in a number of ways, so "girl" isn't technically wrong. That being said, TL'ing it as "miss" or "young lady" would probably be more suitable, given the context.

I do think this is possibly edited MTL, but the quality is readable and the TLer has endeavoured to put in food tutorials and pics.

Also b/c the TL misidentified salted duck eggs as century eggs. Harmless mistake, but I'm leaning towards edited MTL.

Century eggs are not very salty, are fairly mellow, and you definitely do want to salt your century egg porridge.
