By the year 3029 CE, Earth’s technology has developed rapidly, borders no longer exist, and Earth has been unified, marking the beginning of the era of the Federation.

At that time, a huge sword flew from the heavens, piercing the sun and causing a huge sensation on Earth.

Perhaps because the scabbard of the sword was already in tatters, countless shards have broken off from it following the collision with the sun and spread across the universe. Many of these shards have landed on various places across Earth.

With the arrival of the bronze sword and its shards, a new unlimited energy source has suddenly appeared on Earth. This energy source has since been named Spirit Qi.

Spirit Qi is like air, thick in some places and thin in others. As the Federation and other factions gather more shards, they discover more information on cultivation, pill refinement, Spirit Stone refinement, and other techniques. The words on the shards have an ancient feel to them, making it a trend for people to use ancient language.

The appearance of Spirit Qi rapidly makes the original energy sources obsolete and has completely changed people’s lives. Not only has the Spirit Internet been formed, Spirit Qi has also changed the course of Human Civilization, causing the world to enter a civilization of cultivation. This would later come to be known as the Spirit Inception Era.

Very boring 80chs. I'm surprised thats ErGen's novel, nothing new at all. Same crowd, same sects, same followers, same ret*rds everywhere. You can find hundreds similar novels on Qidian. MC is fat so all humour is around his weight, should be funny for someone.
"I have to keep a low profile"- after a year, world's #1genius and Internet superstar. "i have to lose weight"-eating all the time. "I'm going to be a president "- offended every powerhouse he could. Didn't even tried to find allies, just weak to strong cheating.... more>>
All settings are irrelevant, low quality fanservice under ErGen's brand

Just imagine, there is a mediocre sprinter with no results. Once he was caught cheating and after ban he crashed every single world record in every discipline. In 6 months mediocre sprinter became a GOD lvl creature! Everyone knows he was a cheater. Suspicions? Investigations? Interrogations? - NO, he is just handsome and mysterious!
I hate this crap very much, for me this is a lazy writing <<less

I have no idea why Er Gen made a very significant genre change to his recent novels. Usually Er Gen books would have good plot, determined MCs, a rich world building, growing characters, and portray a ruthless cultivation world. Last 2 books by him however had a complete change of tone, in which comedy comes to the forefront instead of the plot, and the MC becomes an idiotic manchild.

Both this book as well as A Will Eternal have basically the same MC, same jokes, same sects, same enemies, same f*cking... more>> MC even. No longer will you feel that you're exploring a vast cultivation world beset with dangers, instead you're reading some slapstick comedy and repetitive boring jokes in a cultivation background. Just NO Er Gen, how can you f*ck up this bad after classics like ISSTH and especially Renegade Immortal? ISSTH also had a funny protagonist, but that was protagonist done right and there was a serious plot afoot as well.

After these last 2 books, its probably only Mao Ni left who is still writing high quality xianxia novels. <<less

When the jokes get repetitive 38 chapters in, you know something is wrong. Considering that the story is currently at 628 chapters and still ongoing, I had to wonder how much more nuanced a fat joke could get.

From what I've read so far, this book is just one long fat joke.

Meet Wang Baole whose only two character traits are fat and a**hole. I took Bai Xiaochun to be a novelty but it seems like we have another story about Bai Xiaochun... just fatter. See how I keep mentioning fat? That's... more>> what you should expect in this book. So far, the only character motivation is to be an official so he won't be bullied. That's it. 38 chapters in and that's the only hint of plot.

After thoroughly enjoying Beseech the Devil, Renegade Immortal and I Shall Seal The Heavens, I expected more than a gagfest from Er Gen. It seems like I was wrong as his writing has thoroughly changed. I'm not saying there's anything bad about his writing, but it's just not for me. I've read better comedies. I won't even be turning to this book for a laugh, sorry. Dropped. <<less

After reading over 300 chapters, what I can say is it is a funny light-hearted novel.

But that's all there is to it...

The quality of er gen novels has severely dropped since ISSTH. This novel and AWE can't be placed in the same leagues as ISSTH and Xian Ni, but some might arguably say it's better because the story is much simpler and entertaining, very much like those amateurish works of eastern fantasy upstarts which become popular because of how simple and amusing they are.

The fact is Er Gen has gotten... more>> really lazy. As much I enjoy the ever-present witty antics and hilarious character interactions, the lack of depth found in er gen previous works immediately comes to attention. Depth when it comes to cultivation, characters, philosophy, and world-building; Those elements that fill you with emotion and make you think deeply about them.

A mysterious world that entraps your curiosity and leaves you begging for the unknown; A world that stimulates your imagination and evokes your sense of wonder: That is Eastern Fantasy done correctly.

But sadly, this is something I find lacking in AWWP, and also AWE. In fact, it is the main issue I have with Earth-based fantasy and why I tend to avoid reading them: They lack creativity and imagination.

Introducing a widespread foreign element to Earth, such as Magic or Cultivation, will require the explanation of a lot of things for its implementation to be successful and for the story to appear authentic. That will be exceedingly complex to execute and heavily tasking on the knowledge and imagination of the writer, so most authors just end up half-assing everything instead. Er Gen is no exception here.

It would have been more sensible and believable if the arrival of the sword fragments had caused a cataclysmic event that left the earth in a post-apocalyptic state after the destruction of all technology and loss of scientific knowledge; the only record of their existence in the form of ruins.

This way, the few survivors of the apocalypse and the incoming post-apocalyptic generation, would all come to know a new world of spirit qi and cultivation with little presence of science and technology of the past. That could be rightly called a 'Spirit Inception Era.'

But Er Gen didn't do that...

Instead, he brought spirit qi into the world but wasn't willing to do away with Earth's science and technology, so we end up having absurd things such as Jade slips in a modern era, and Spirit Internet in the novel. Er Gen tries to leave the impression that Spirit Qi has made all science and technology nearly inept and that Earth is in a Cultivation civilization.

The novel heavily disregards technology and science and makes it seem like everything we see is made so by Spirit Qi, but the author seems to have not taken into account something significant, which is: Cultivation and Spirit Qi has been present for Less than 40 short years!

Even with how immensely powerful the new Spirit Energy is, the amount of changes that could be made in 40 years is very, very limited; not to even mention they had spent almost half of that time in a war waged against Beasts. So, nearly all of the advanced futuristic stuff we see could only have been made possible by the millennium of scientific and technological advancements by humans before the advent of Spirit Qi. It would have worked if Er Gen didn't try to disregard technology in favor of Spirit Qi but instead established the study and integration of Spirit Qi into the science and tech of their era; creating a perfect balance and fusion between the different concepts.

We don't get that; What we get is the undertone that technological influence is minimal and everything we see is only made possible by spirit qi WHEN IN FACT IT'S ACTUALLY THE OPPOSITE.

It just ends up being shocking when you see technology being disregarded by the people of Earth when most of the developments in the world they live in, could be attributed to technological creations than the lesser influence of Spirit Qi.

Another thing you may find irksome is that even though the story takes place on Earth, there only seems to be Chinese people and no other race, just like in your typical Eastern Fantasy novel.

In conclusion, I only gave this novel a rating of three stars because if you can look past all its shortcomings, it becomes an enjoyable read that's hardly boring and will make you laugh out your lungs several times. But, the moment the jokes start to get repetitive, and ultimately boring, will be when I stop reading the novel and drop my rating to a single star. <<less

What kind of moron gives this book a one-star review?

Let me address the criticisms first. Yes, this book touches a lot of the same themes as Er Gen's A Will Eternal. Yes, it doesn't have quite the same atmosphere of solemn profundity that Er Gen's earlier books did. And yeah, Er Gen's recent decision to switch to more of an action-comedy style isn't necessarily a decision that will appeal to all of his fans.

But it's still a freaking Er Gen novel. I mean, really. Even if this book were exactly... more>> the same as A Will Eternal with a few names changed around as some people are suggesting, it'd still be better than 75% of the stories out there.

With that said, there are a few points of fair criticism about the book. Personally, my main gripe is that the setting is a lot weaker than many Er Gen novels; his decision to place the story in a near future Earth where spiritual energy has recently been developed feels a little uninspired and he hasn't really taken much advantage of the potential technological or societal effects that a change like that could cause (especially in comparison to a story that does do that, like 40 Millenia of Cultivation.) Instead, there's a kind of 'the-world-is-familiar-but-not-really' ambiance that isn't quite as satisfying as the intimate descriptions of sects and so on from Er Gen's previous stories.

Aside from that, though, it's a satisfying read. I find Wang Baole's distinct brand of venal gluttony sufficiently different from Bao Xiaochun's cowardly narcissism that the complaints other people have had about them being too similar don't really resonate with me at all. Instead, I think it's more like Er Gen is taking the chance to play with some themes that he wanted to use in A Will Eternal, but couldn't due to them being out of character for his cowardly protagonist. Having a protagonist that schemes and plots is a nice change from AWE (though reminiscent of ISSTH) and while the fat jokes do get a little bit repetitive early on, as time passes Baole's character rounds out a bit, even as he slims down.

Ignore the one-star reviews, this is definitely worth checking out if you liked ISSTH or AWE. <<less

Oh! How the mighty have fallen, I just can't handle this anymore, Er Gen's story has just gone downhill now. I thought he will fix his mistakes from his last book in this one, but no. Its a repeat of all of it with recycled jokes taking precedence over the overall plot.
I will not take it. Er Gen you have disappointed me for the last time!!

Bai Xiaochun from 'A will eternal' reincarnated. All the plots reincarnated too. They are so similar it puts me off.

This should be titled tale of a corrupt official.

The culture of the federation in the novel is incredibly Chinese. Everyone and everything is corrupt yet ultranationalistic. After a while it just gets to you.

Examples include the MC soliciting bribes repeatedly, embezzling funds, encouraging his beast pet to bully/r*pe someone else's as long as there is no evidence. The only way the author tries save this is by making the enemies more Corupt than the MC.

This novel is both funny and interesting as is to be expected from Er Gen. Interesting characters. Interesting twist on the cultivation system. When I got to the end of the published chapter I went back to the first chapter and started reading again.

So far, of all the other protagonists by Er Gen, the MC in this novel is most like Bai Xiaochun, the main character from A will Eternal. A mix of scheming and innocence that is funny and endearing. He is however his own character with a slightly... more>> different personality. For one he is less childish, as is appropriate for a college aged MC. MC is Machiavellian in his efforts to suck up to his teachers, having learned countless politician moves from reading countless autobiographies of past cultivators.

His schemes work epically until they moment the fail even more epically! A fun read! <<less

The MC is so annoying, I had to drop this series early on. I hope it gets better later on, but the MC is dumb, the school professors are oblivious, and the setting is pretty stretched. I was trying to tolerate it because I wanted to give the series more of a chance to grow, but the MC is just so obnoxious that I can't stand to read another word about him.

The translations and editing are excellent, though. Props to Atlas Studios.

Don't know what the bad reviews are about. From the low ratings, I thought the novel was going to be bad even before I started reading. However, it didn't take long for me to be addicted. Er Gen's best novel yet in my opinion even though I loved ISSTH and AWE. Maybe the hate is from the fact that Qidian is doing the translating since they are an evil company that behaves exactly like the evildoers in chinese webnovels? Anyway, few authors have managed to draw me in but Er... more>> Gen is definitely on top of the list. <<less

The people who give this story 1 star are clearly doing injustice toward this story. Many characters in this story are interesting and aren't bland and one dimensional compared to other xianxia novel. They get character developments! The plot in this story isn't repetitive compared to top rankings novel in this site.

That's why you must ignore ignorant people who give this story 1 star. They can't appreciate the art of characters developments. Hand down.

MC gets a cheat just like any other MC of er gen's novel

but this MC gets another cheat much later again, he also gets a senior sect brother for some inexplicable reason who often seems to arrive in time to save his butt

the first few hundreds of chapters are pretty funny and fun to read just like awe, but it quickly goes down once he gets onto the sword, it becomes very boring and is just another typical xianxia...

also 1 chapter a day makes it a pain to read since... more>> they're in the middle of a war right now... <<less

I really don't know where these idiots come from and judge an entire novel just on few chapters. Judging a book by its cover types. Some of them claim to have read upto 600+ when I'm At 585th Latest Translated Chapter myself! They probably prefer those tr*sh like novels where typical MC's pick up girls like cabbages on street with the latter throwing themselves at him abd endless b*tching and bickering. Shitty endings n whatnot. Pfft! Hell with your crappy tastes.

Back to reviews- Er Gen has gone further and even... more>> better in his writing. I have really loved and read his previous works. Each one is a freaking gem! Honestly I was sceptical at first reading the synopsis. Glad I was disappointed. Simply splendid. To those of you who've read his earlier works you know how unique his characters are. The MC of this novel comes across as more of BXC's big brother.

Spoiler-MC cultivates to lose weight. LMAO

Never a moment of dullness and all you want is to keep on reading and hope translator dishes out more chapters. Translation is good and the plots stable. What more can a reader want! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! *Drops mic* <<less

The latest novel from Er Gen - the author of ISSTH, AWE, Renegade Immortal and Pursuit of Truth. This novel is a continuation in the shared multiverse.

Our hero - Wang Baole - is a shameless fatty who wishes to become the top official so that no one can bully him. To achieve his wish, he relies on his wits and a treasure cheat item.

The adventures of our MC are humorous and they will definitely bring a smile on your face. Yes, some jokes do get repetitive later on but Er... more>> Gen tries to experiment with new subjects.

The world building. Let's say the setting on Earth and that too in future is pretty much useless. There is really no technology except for internet. Pretty much xianxia environment otherwise.

I do advise you to read AWE before as there are subtle hints of this novel's world in AWE. <<less

All can really say is that so far it's great. I wish I could read Chinese so I could read all 600+ in one day. Plenty of comedy and emotions in his unique style of writing. Er Gen keeps making gem after gem. "Another one" as DJ Khaled would say.

Er Gen is confusing writing this novel. It's normal. He tries the new path, but fail miserably if not his good writing style and fan base. But no mater what, it failed. You can skipped-reading the last 200s to the final 20s without missing anything.

The background is Earth and Solar System in the future, 3029 CE, where physics rules and sciences and technology suddenly collapsed due to arrival of the 'xianxia' elements.

So the story started with Sci-Fi background mixed with xianxia. MC was ordinary boy with dreaming of becoming... more>> supreme leader of the Solar System's Federation, through politics and cultivation. The story developed in Er Gen style until mid story, after he went out of Solar System.

While Er Gen has lot of fantasy idea, he has NONE in basic science knowledge. So after the MC went out of the planet, the Sci Fi background was dropped completely while ISSTH background forcefully inserted in. For example, Mercury was destroyed, Moon was moved to Venus. Poor Er Gen. He did not know that if that had happened in Sci world, Earth would be broken into pieces. He discarded not only scientific technolgy background but also Primal Physical Laws.

This transformation was done poorly & badly. The result was : many plots were discarded silently. Earth & Solar system & Science & People were no longer important, to the non-exist level, in both MC's mind and Er Gen's, too. The plot changed from People of Solar System to Experimental Log of the Crazy MC.

After 1/2 of the novel, not only Solar system lost, but the whole Sci universe as well. Earth & Solar system & Galaxies were nothing but the unimportant illusion created by the side thought of the injured God. By then, the novel was turned in to 100% generic xianxia.

Losing of science background was bad. But not as bad as losing almost all the important supporting characters. No more MC home, parent, closed friends, FLs, main protagonists, main antagosists, etc. They were simply dropped.

Generic Xianxia? Right. After leaving Solar System, the MC got his OPness with writer's shield. Thus, he dropped his self too.

My review should stop here. Best wish to Er Gen and his fan club. Hope you enjoy this confused & conflicted-plot novel.

The worst of this novel. Up to un ! Be ! Live ! Able level that almost all Er Gen's faithful followers did not notice. In this novel, in world background set up, Er Gen killed all the people of Earth and Solar System and Universe-wide

except Chinese People. No more people of USA, EU, Aus. Even all Asian people were dead. No one except China and its culture/heritage/history did exist.

This novel is really good, reading this never boring, funny and MC has a real goal in head, MC also clever and know how to conduct himself, not a 'kill them all' type.

I already read renegade immortal, issth, awe, and this novel. So far so good.

I love the work from Er Gen and I'm so happy this one gets finally translated! :) The MC is unique as always, well versed in the Dao of Shamelessness and his goal in becoming a official sounds like a lot of fun as well :) Really looking forward, only thing I'm sad about is db doesnt translate it on ww and we dont get the great memes for this novel : (

Wish we had already 600 chapters translated, dont get why this started just recently

To tell this novel is good means same as telling nothing at all.

In this novel you can see how Er Gen's writing skills have been honed so far after writing a lot of excellent novels before. My personal preference is Renegade Immortal and this one. Don't understand me wrong his other works are very exceptional of themselves but with the current one he's done a great job.

Hope it goes as smooth as it's and ends well.

Recommend strongly for reading!
