Lu Zhou wakes up to become the world’s most powerful and oldest villainous Patriarch, and finds that he has nine notorious disciples who are full of evil. His eldest disciple is the leader of the Nether Sect with thousands of minions, and his second disciple—Sword Devil—always slaughters others at the slightest disagreement…

Without his cultivation base, how will he handle these evil disciples?

His eldest disciple, Yu Zhenghai, said, “I’ve never had a rival in my life, and no one but Master can make me bow my head.”

His seventh disciple, Si Wuya, said, “We can’t eat or sleep in peace as long as the Master is not dead!”

His ninth disciple, Yuan’er, said, “I’ll remember what Master said and be a good person.”

This novel doesn't do anything new or excels in anything particular. It suffers from common xianxia tropes such as beating others who think you are weaker than them, but these tropes have been used in such a way that it doesn't make the novel bad. Furthermore, the novel doesn't really try to make the main character or his sect look like they are on the good side. Rather, they are in my opinion somewhere between the grey and evil side in many things they do. Since the MC really likes... more>> to act like the evil final boss who doesn't bullsh*t around and just oneshots you.

The system provides cheats as usual for the main character. They are over powered but limited in such a way that the main character still has to think and scheme. The interesting thing is that the shop prices for op items increase as his cultivation level goes up alongside with other things. So at some point he gets diminishing returns for over relying on the system to solve his problems. This also causes the main character to bullsh*t his way through a lot of situations instead of using his system, which can be quite hilarious. The novel also has a bigger overarching plot other than him rebuilding his sect and disciplining all his disciples. The overarching plot is nothing mindblowing but provides a sense of mystery and an enjoyable journey to the answer.

We also get to see the backstories of the disciples and their points of views a lot. They are sadly not as fleshed out as I would like them to be but as of right now I think that their backstories and character developments are better than your average xianxia cultivation novel.

While the novel isn't something that will blow your mind with how good it is, it is novel with a consistent and "steady" plot. Much better than most of the other xianxia novels that are being translated right now. <<less

Are you sick and tired of WN that starts off as: MC transmigrating to a waste' body that has no or is known for being a weak tr*sh? Sick and tired of those characters that underestimates MC in almost every occasion? Don't like 'em harems, romance or whatever you call them, that hinders one's path to sainthood?

And last but not least do you like disciple-raising themes like HN1F and LOHP?

If so, then this is the one for you!

Spoiler

Read the description first, I'm too lazy to summarize lol

Just some insights, don't worry about MC being OP making it boring and all, he didn't actually inherit the original body's high cultivation (shh people don't know that) and unfortunately the original body is really evil and did many despicable things, therefore earning the grudges of countless "righteous" cultivators. And our poor MC has to bear those grudges (F) so he pretty much didn't gain anything good when he transmigrated into this big-shot's body.

Inorder to survive, he has to pretend like he is still the all-powerful demonic cultivator and bullsh*t his way through to avoid people finding out, which leads to misunderstandings and it's pretty hilarious.

And if you're worrying about the "talk more and fight less" thing, it's kinda understandable since MC's mission is to make his disciples from villains to heroes, which is harder than you might think. And as what I've said, MC didn't really inherit the original owner's cultivation so, he ought to avoid as much fighting as possible.

But ofcourse MC still fights if the situation gets out of hand, he does have some cards up his sleeves after all, but very limited. So he only uses it when his like about to die or something.

Here's the thing - the first 1300 or so chapters are pretty good. There are obviously some tropes that are followed, but the story is interesting and the characters are well written. It has an intriguing main plot and is different than most novels in the sense that our MC is very reasonable.

However, in the last 1/5th of the novel things fall apart. The so far interesting plot is rushed through, nothing is properly explained in the end, and there is no satisfactory conclusion.

I know it's hard finishing written works... more>> but it really feels like the author gave up near the end - we get literally zero explanation on so many important and intriguing aspects of the story, and even the last chapter, last sentence of the novel is a cliffhanger for some other non-existent work.

Its really unfortunate because it was really good until the last few hundred chapters. <<less

I really like the story, it delivers what it sets out to do, and never loses track of the theme, "My disciples are all villains" IT'S TRUE, UNTIL THE END.
The characters are cohesive, they don't run away from what is established, the relationship between them also makes sense, the world makes sense, the story is written in a light and easy to read way.
It makes sense that the MC is so powerful.
So overall I really enjoyed it.
I just wish there was more, I think it could tell so much more about the MC and the universe itself.
It is a pity.
I recommend it, and for me what won me over was that the author managed to create a story where you don't need a huge harem just to make the story go, no.
The story goes on effortlessly.
And he doesn't have a harem.

Magnificent.

I'm done reading it and all I can say is I'm quite not satisfied with the ending 😆 but still i'll give it 5 because it entertained me a lot.

The interactions between master and disciple is really funny, with disciples that have their own different personalities and stubbornness.

Though it doesn't explain much there about the previous life of Lu Zhou. The mystery of Ji Tiandao really intrigued me much. Haha.

I'ts a nice story by the way if you're only looking for fun though sometimes, their personality really irks you especially... more>> Lu Zhou, but oh well, they are villains in the first place so it's natural if they act so bossy lol 😆

That's all. Thank you very much author and to the one who translates this. Hope you'll also have fun 😊💖 <<less

MC is either 20 or 30, author kept switching and then forgot about it within 10 chapters

MC is in an old man body, unique yes but not in a good way

MC seems to know everything, MC is normal Dude that knows and does everything based on his original body's memories

... more>> it kind of annoys me how he acts like a generic Sect Elder, basically he either talks in riddles or says one word at a time "Impudent" "You Dare" "Humph" is basically 90% of his spoken dialogue so far

also for some reason the MC keeps stroking his beard while talking? I mean I guess its supposed to be his "thing" so you know he's talking but its really just making me cringe

the entire novel so far is

  • haha old MC weak
  • ohno old MC not weak
  • haha look at disciple
  • ohno look at disciple
  • hey look MC has only done 80 of the 100 evil things he is accused of
  • haha MC ignore everyone and acts like a op grandpa
  • ohno MC seems to be an arrogant old master

It's not a comedy. If it seems to be heading that way initially, that impression soon drops off. The world building and plot is fairly interesting, though, and takes a lot of inspiration directly from the Classic of Mountains and Seas.

One advantage, I guess, of the protagonist being stuck in an elderly body is that it influences his personality too. I really don't mind reading more stories driven by grumpy old guys.

I feel that this is worth the read. I binged through the raws very quickly and found it to be overall enjoyable and quite interesting. No romance at all. No auction houses.

Without giving any spoilers, I'll say that the first few hundred chapters when the story focused on the MC and his disciples were the best parts of the novel. You get to see their relationships and how it developed to the state that it is. After that however, when the traveling began I felt that the story became a... more>> bit bland. The MC became a lot more talkative towards his enemies and there was a lot of filler talk you usually see from these kinds of chinese novels. like "You dare?!" etc... and it really brought down the novel which was a pain to read. Towards the end you could see that the author was rushing through but not as bad as some other novels. I thought it concluded pretty well and most mysteries have been resolved.

I think the overarching story is quite solid, there isn't a lot of plotholes. But there are usual MC plot armours which is inevitable I guess. The world building is quite confusing, even after reading the chinese wiki I still didn't quite get it. The author even says so himself that his style of writing does not emphasize on world building and he is too lazy to go into that much details. Another thing to note is that the cultivations levels towards the end is also quite confusing and it mainly stems from the author trying to rush through to get the MC at the same level as the Main boss.

You might be thinking: "wow so many cons, how come you still gave it a 4 star?"

Well overall, it was quite coherent and smooth flowing. I like the storylines and the dynamics between the MC and his disciples. It isn't really a cookie cut template as compared to other CN novels and most importantly, I did not felt my time was wasted. <<less

This is pretty good. I like stories where the MC bluffs being OP, so this was right up my alley. You do lose the MC's personality a bit (I half forget he's even transmigrated sometimes, and he doesn't talk a lot). On the other hand, there are a lot of interesting side characters all with their own motivations. (And character development!)

I am pleased to say there is no romance (and no harem!). In fact, there are a lot of strong female characters with distinct personalities.

It's definitely a power-level story,... more>> with lots of curb stomping. (MC's victories are not suspenseful, but they are usually pretty satisfying). There are some deeper mysteries in the story (MC does not have all the memories of the sect leader he transmigrated into, there is some backstory to why various disciples left, there is some larger world intrigue stuff too). Basically, it's a decent amount of plot for a golden finger cultivation story.

It's not the best thing I've ever ready (and as all power-level stories, it can be repetitive in parts). But I am enjoying it so I'm willing to give 4 stars. <<less

Edit: I've finished reading this and it's actually pretty decent.

I think the mystery aspect of the novel is good. Many parts of the novel world and the MC's identity has been written quite well, although I do feel like some questions were left unanswered :/

I'm really glad there was no romance or harem. I don't think it would have fit with the setting.

I like the MC's personality too. He's not sacrificial or a hero in any way, and he's selfish and arrogant. He's fine with killing people who get in... more>> his way, and although it's quite cruel, I think it fits his overall identity and persona well. There are places where his arrogance irritates me though, especially in the earlier parts, where he mostly relied on the system, yet acted as if he were better than everyone else :/

I love the disciples. At first they annoyed me, but eventually I came to really like them.

Spoiler

Especially Si Wuya, I nearly cried when he died.

[collapse]

The other side characters were nice too, although they were eventually forgotten by the author... XD

The plot and word building is okay, not bad for this genre. Overall, this novel is quite enjoyable as long as you don't look into it too much. <<less

Novel is quite overrated. This is a very run of the mill cultivation novel besides the early setup, nothing surprising ever happen.

I don't mind novels with a system as long as it only gives the MC a headstart and he grows out of it and proves he's more than just a system, but here, the MC relies on his system from start to finish, he doesn't even think on how to use it in the most efficient way, he just goes with the flow just to be able to save... more>> face or keep acting as an old patriarch, and is never punished for it, noone ever calls his bluffs.

The way he talks to people also get annoying, never ever saying please or thanks, talking big in general like "you're a frog in a well" while he uses the sytem to beat his enemy, like bro, you did nothing on your own, maybe don't talk sh*t about it.

And he's not doing it in a shameless funny way like some other novels that you only read for the faceslap. It's more like the author makes it as if you're supposed to worship the very ground MC's walking on.

Ending is pretty poor as well, several questions are left unanswered, last chapter is left on a cliffhanger for no reason, the system isn't even explained in the end.

Frankly disappointed, would not recommend. <<less

This novel starts great, but then becomes worse and worse. Author forgets what he wrote before and reuses the same scenes. Example: MC kills someone strong, everyone is shocked. Then after a few chapters MC kills someone significantly weaker then last time and the same people are still shocked, as if they never seen what happened before. Or MC’s disciple shows his cultivation, then after few chapter author forgets about it and spends whole paragraph describing how MC is shocked after seeing disciple’s cultivation. Also there is a system and... more>> reincarnation, but there is no need for them, it looks like they were added just because they are popular.

But first half of the novel is great. MC has incomplete memory, no power and very limited amount of temporary power-ups. He is forced to plan his actions and bluff to other people to save himself. It is a good mix of power fantasy and detective with cunning (well, mostly bluffing to save his power-ups) protagonist. Also it is interesting to read about disciples and their development, it is done pretty well. <<less

The novel in of itself is fine and was a good read when I was free. It's not something in my opinion that draws someone in all the time, but there are some exciting moments. The story was good with no set goal creating a really good environment to flush the out main character as a teacher, but we don't really get to see this... The main character as a teacher we just see him throw knowledge at his student's and is just like "There now do something." I was... more>> fine with the novel until the recent stuff like some mysterious lady surnamed Luo and a possible disciple who is exactly the same and some world Apocalypse shit. The novel in my opinion doesn't work as one of those secret realm works like in Supreme uprising you know where everything is hidden. <<less

No romance. A decent one for master—disciple relationship. Funny interaction between disciple and an OP MC.

It starts off really good. The MC is calculative and likes to bluff. It shows off how the MC tries to discipline and build relationship with the students that is nearby him and how the students are afraid yet after seeing their teacher changes for the better they starts to open up to him.

Then as the story goes on, the MC become more and more Gary Stu. It becomes corny to read and the MC kinda uncaring to the students sometimes. Other times looks caring. But honestly the longer it... more>> goes on the more it feels all over the place. <<less

An actually decent novel but the quality of translation is a major turn-off. The novel is great in the sense that most of the disciples have their unique traits, background and personality while the MC is a massive G at posturing. Plot-wise, lacks some cohesion as the plot feels like lego blocks being put together. Not bad to be honest but I just can't handle the mixing of names and weird translation.

If you want a well structured novel, this probably isn't for you. If you want something fun and you dont pick stories apart, go ahead.

Pretty good. Apparently the last grandarc was rushed 1200-end but honestly, while it was fast paced, I felt it matched the pace of the world at the time.

One of the reviews talks about all the undesolved parts - system, disciples, MC. While its not clearly explained in its entirety, most everything gets some reason or a memory fragment to let you make your own conclusions.

The only... more>> sh*t part is the final sentence, where the author throws a twist in a small part of the story but its not that bad. Just feels like a missing chapter. <<less

A surprisingly good novel in which the worst thing about it is the title. I won't pretend the novel is perfect. There's some things that the author forgot to clarify at the end. But overall, it's a cohesive story written around a main character, his disciples and his journey to hegemon. The story ultimately leaves enough room for a sequel or a couple of side stories, but it's highly enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it.

I think this is okay, but you probably have to be in the mood for it.

I think I'll have to try again if I pick it back up at all. Pretty inconsistent or poor phrasing around power of individuals, makes it hard to follow.

Honestly, this might not be everyone's cup of tea and I can understand that. If you are looking for some detailed and complex world with well delievered words, this might not be what you're looking for. I admit, I also skimmed a bunch of paragraphs with the plot for a little while. But, seriously, the reason why I can finished the whole novel was

The. Characters. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH- Sometimes there are certain characters that I disagree with or some that I generally just ??? The whole time. But..... more>> In general, the main charas are all amazing- Dude- Oh my god I love it!

Definitely something I would read again for the characters! They are hilaurious! The ending is a bit.. Rushed, if im being honest. The solution for some complications are all.. Interesting. My advice are try not o make too much sense of it? Since I did laughed it off after couple of.. That! <<less
