Tang Dynasty painter Fu Yi died and found himself reincarnated in the modern world in the body of a young master named Qi Linqing whose economic resources had been cut-off.

In order to make ends meet, he started to diligently paint and write calligraphy.

Everyone was waiting for this young master to make a joke of himself as he tried to fake his painting skills, but what really happened was ——

The director of the costume drama cried bitterly: Come to my play!

People’s Daily: # Qi Linqing, the youngest genius youth in traditional Chinese painting #

Facing the media interview, Qi Linqing said very honestly: “I am actually very average at painting.”

After all, he was poor in his previous life.

The crowd: “?”

Why do you have misconceptions about your own strength?

Later, the well-known master of Chinese painting exclaimed, “Your brushwork looks like the Saint of Painting ……”

Upon hearing the phrase Saint of Painting, Qi Linqing hastened to be modest: “I don’t dare to be.”

Master: “……Saint of Painting Fu Yi.”

As Qi Linqing finally realised this: “?”

Fu Yi, was this not himself??

I admit, this novel made me frustrated I really want to flip a table or shake the MC and ML so badly few times. Probably just me. But the Slow Revelation or Realization was Realistic in the way that WHY JUST WHY?!! I don't have problem with Slow Romance, but definitely upset with Slow Revelation or Realization.

Anyway... That's it. That's probably the only 'Flaw' I can think of.

The rest of the Story are Pretty Great!

Our MC is Calm. Eldery, Mature, Have his own priority, Don't care about people's Opinion, Zen-like... more>> kind of Calm.

The Faceslapping happen because MC's Previous Life Talent that he shown to people. MC didn't intend to face slap or defeat anyone. At first because he need money, the rest because he just has to.

MC's life was Pretty Smooth so far. He has friend and people who adore him or become his fan.

Anyway it's really good novel. I hope it give us Satisfactory in the end. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Still waiting for the Revelation....

Finished at 27 May 2023:

Pretty good till the end. It has Pleasing Ending that made me content. Sure it's not a Perfect nor Spectacular Novel, but it's still pretty good.

Our Gong MC is a likable as Character and Protagonist. But I admit he can be frustrating at times when he hide his thought. He's good MC but he can improve more as a Lover...

Our ML Shou when he's finally together with MC, bold but totally doting. He will seems to upset when our MC doesn't want to take next level or stay long enough with him, but he will always the one who won't let his anger stay. I admit, he gives and gives, but good thing MC doesn't just take take character, he's still Sweet in his own way. If not, the novel won't just be Frustrating as small flaws, but would be Major flaws!

Anyway, ML Shou really do has characteristic of ML Gong. 😆 The doting, bold, henpecked husband-like. I adore his Devotion and Patience!

The reveal... Anti climax... Goes with flows... But it's works for them.... Especially with MC's personalities.

Anyway again, it's still a Very Good novel! And I Love it! <<less

Well its actually kinda interesting at the beginning, and I like this type of protagonis. And its actually good that instead of doing something like cruel revenge or something, he choose to prove his worth instead. (Well I know thats bc he is not the og and just kind of borrowing og's body)

But its become repetitive and kinda boring and not make sense toward the end.

And its really weird how Fu Hanri ended up marrying Qi Yingjun. Its feels like the author too forcing it.

It's a light-read. There's not really any complicated plots or anything, just MC being OP and faceslapping everyone.

Spoiler

I went on reading more than half of the story without knowing who's the gong and who's the shou—letting me read it despite me mostly reading only shou MC novels (But I guess such a novelty is nice sometimes). But anyway, the tropes are kinda repetitive since MC is always questioned for his ability and skills due to his overly young age which is not quite in line with the norms of people with the same achievements as him. The cycle basically goes like this: MC joins a show/program/competition that requires him to show off his painting skills--->He's too young!--->People starts questioning his reliability, saying things like he bought his achievement with money cause of the previous reason, as well as being raised in the countryside--->MC faceslaps them--->Fan-climbing galore. For some reason, they don't seem to learn their lesson?

As with other novels like this, patriotism can be seen in many aspects of this novel. Things such as Huaxia faceslapping a mere country that dared not raise their heads since ancient times and Sakura Island are quite prevalent here. Also, why go out of the way to describe a master painter for 'Sakura Island' as having shaved head, yellow skin, having a moustache on top of mouth, and unremarkable?

The so-called 'main antagonist' in this novel, the ori-book MC (Qi Lele) is just a spoiled attention-seeking brat. He's basically just a petty person who can't stand others, especially the 'real young master of the family', being better than him. He even goes as far as destroying the MC's reputation and luring another rich second-gen to trick ori-host into losing a million from gambling in Macau.

Lastly, ML—at first I actually thought he was the gong LMAO. I mean, he gives off typical cool gong vibes (at least based on what I read before). But hey, the height gave a reason to suspect (with novel gongs generally having higher stature than shous). ML had a crush on MC since their last life as Liang Loudan and Fu Yi. This sentiment seems to be reciprocated, though Fu Yi seemed to be clueless about his own feelings. ML, Zhong Chen, started suspecting MC as another transmigrator quite early on, even suspecting that MC is his Master, gradually falling in love. This seems great, but the romance is a slow-burn. Most of the romance plot is basically ML trying to seduce wood MC into going out with him.

One thing I'm not reconciled with is: when did they confess their past-life memories to each other?! Like seriously, ML found out early on but had no intentions to confess as he believes that it will drive MC away from him. MC found out nearing the end of the novel (at chapter 100s) but I don't think he also had any intentions to tell the ML. They basically just spent time together concealing the fact that they both remember their past-lives. It was not until the end that the MC returned victorious from an international ink painting competition that he tould the ML, 'Loudan (ML's previous life name), will you marry me?'. What was the ML's reaction at that time? Was he surprised? Excited? Terrified of the fact that the MC knows that he was concealing his past-life identity despite bearing knowledge of it??? The extra is just about their married life, ML retiring to be a homecook, and MC's older brother and former admirer getting married together. It was a fastforward of 7 years.

There is also a little extra about MC's previous demise as the painting saint Fu Yi in a village in the ancient times. It was a bittersweet (for me, I guess, since I'm very sensitive) since it showed the MC's regrets of not being able to personally finish and deliver his final masterpiece to his apprentice, whom he made a promise to. It's actually sad how poverty and lack of medical technology back then claimed the lives of many.

[collapse]

I gave it five stars because it's a relaxing read. No brainstorming, no complicated plot theories, just faceslapping. <<less

This novel is pretty refreshing, although a little bit mindless. It's rare that the MC transmigrates from ancient China, and even more rare that (minor spoiler ahead) ... more>>
Spoiler

both the MC and ML transmigrated from ancient China.

[collapse]

The romance wasn't really the focus of this novel, but the traditional art. I like that the novel goes into detail about the painting and other arts that the MC can do. The MC's casual golden finger isn't super annoying either, he doesn't try to flaunt it or anything.

As a side note, the MC is just so nonchalant about everything that I actually found this novel quite humorous. Why should he care about the dogblood drama? He doesn't care about the emotional drama, doesn't care about earning tons of money or becoming super famous with his skills.

It's a slice of life. Don't think about it too hard. <<less

Writing itself is enjoyable, and it was nice to see the return of traditional techniques without making it out to be too nationalistic. I really appreciate that the MC just wants to delve into art, but still spreads traditional pride and glory of the nation's history.

Novel itself is very surface level. It's meant to be the kind you turn off your brain for and enjoy the OP protagonist's journey to recognition. In this case, that part worked fine: it's pretty satisfying to see him overturn their opinions and the author... more>> gives a very surface level explanation why he's so OP (not that he needs one, but it gives a little more depth to the OP-ness).

Note to anyone that was confused about why he knew the novel ahead of time- can't remember if the author fully stated this, but it seems like he died, and probably came across this in the "space" that some of the transmigrators get taken into. But it's a minor detail and is just there to give a reason for why he's not completely clueless.

Issues I had: I don't think this novel needed the romance the way it was written, and I found the ML.... really annoying. There wasn't anything really wrong but I don't like his character type. There was so much potential for both the ML, antagonist, and some of the side characters, but it fell really flat. Even turning off my brain didn't help *sigh*, especially with the way:
1. The antagonist, who was said to be smart and skilled, ended up like the random canon fodder antagonists that are actually just s*upid and overrated (within the novel). He messed up but I think at the core of it all, the MC's original parents really really messed up.
Spoiler

If you want to be fair, you can give more, not take away. He deserved punishment for the crap he pulled, but I think he wouldn't have done half of it and could've grown up if he wasn't losing everything left and right like he was afraid to. To be fair, he himself caused some of the relationship problems, but honestly.... understandably so to an extent. There was actually a decent potential for him and the arranged marriage bf, but the author decided to make them both scum.

[collapse]
2. The ML... I was even rooting for MC to never get with him at one point, and I haven't even done that with some of the dog-blooded novels. Got over it once they got together, (can't live in denial XD) because the interactions turned a lot more natural. Still didn't really like ML though
3. The OG family, goodness...
Spoiler

I felt bad for the mom, because she tried, but fell into the very human pit of trusting the people around her and the "fake's" articulation. Brother.... was also rather s*upid but didn't actually do anything terrible. I think it's super natural to trust and like the person you raised/grew up with more than a random stranger, but it's just not fair to MC. The dad though... scum, and prideful on top of that. I have no doubt he has some care for his biological issue and people attached to his name, but it's not familial care, and it's not love. But they also all effed up towards the "fake"- really randomly too- before they knew about the things he was up to, they started taking stuff away and I think this drove the kid up the wall. Granted, early in the novel, the mom and brother actually treated him really well, and it's sad that he kept going down the wrong path. But by the middle/end it really seemed like he was just a placeholder for a son/brother that could be discarded and replaced.

[collapse]
I usually don't mind all this too much but the way they appeared in this novel made them rather irritating, and the lost potential really detracted from my reading experience. My ratings saved by me skipping everything that was annoying after ch 60, and finding that by the time I got past 100, I was skipping very little. <<less

The story is good so far but I want to read another novel so I write this now cause I think that I will forget bout this later.

The Qi linqian* guy parent is not suitable for raising a child ig like there this one ch where his father got angry cause he got the last rank in the exam but like what do u expect him to get 50? 1? U literally just brought him back from the country side. Dy think he a genius o what

They dont even care... more>> about him before when he useless n all but now that he a "genius" u acknowledge him as ur child just bcause he good n now Qi Lele is the ignored one (not that I care) but its just urgh how quickly they change is kind of ehm... N the mother already know that Qi Lele is not her child but she just ignore it? Dont u care about ur own child? The grandfather is the only good one in the fam ig

That's all for now

N the author already said that s/he just want to write a novel about super genius kind of so yeah <<less

Star rating is for the novel.

Great job to the TL and team!

... more>> Translation had minor issues, but it's negligible.

As for the novel itself, I'm kind of disappointed because I was sooo looking forward to reading this. The summary/blurb pulled me in and I thought it had a lot of potential.

But after reading it, let's just say that you shouldn't try using your braincells... Don't bother with some clear plot holes, and whatnot.

The author wrote this as a feel-good, face-slapping novel, with an extremely OP MC/ML protected by the protagonist halo.

Personally, I think this novel could have ended in 50 chapters, but it dragged on to chapter 117. I altogether skipped reading the flowery description of MC's paintings.

Anyway, this was good enough to pass the time, but if you're looking for a plot-filled novel, try something else.

I actually picked this up from my reading list because I needed something light to read after completing an infinite flow novel, but I didn't think it'd be like this.

Lastly, like many others said: Read the tag! It's gong/seme MC. <<less

It was a relaxing read. No need to use your brain.

The translation was amazing. Although I don't understand the author's chapter naming sense lol.

The latter half is quite repetitive with people underestimating the MC and him face slapping them with his skills.

... more>> The ML was quite enjoyable and I was surprised for some reason that the ML was actually the Shou.

I'm quite impressed by how much research the author would have had to do to write about a topic like this.

Highly recommend this story even if you yourself aren't into art, it is quite an enjoyable one. <<less

I enjoyed the plot of the story even though it is a slow burn romance.

The two main characters are interesting because they behavior in the modern world. You would never think that such a couple can exist until you understand their story.

Lol so I finished it.

don’t ask me why or how, but I did and I skimmed through some of the more ridiculous parts, but I finished.

damn, this could have been a good light read but lmao it was so corny I don’t even know how to go about critiquing it.

the only positive I can say, is that I liked how the author managed to make these characters act their age. This is the first and only transmigrate type novel where the person was older but transferred into a teen and... more>> still kept their wits and IQ instead of being dumber down and acting like an idiot. So props there.

But lmfaooo what tf happened to qi lele? He never got a closing statement. This whole novel was a mess and I feel like the author knew it.

3 is very generous <<less

While I laughed at mural restoration taking two weeks and painting restoration (using modern tools) taking a month... I did enjoy most of this book.

I love BL, but this story didn’t need a love interest (or romance at all). The author didn’t really commit to it and the ML disappears for chapters after taking chapters to arrive at all.

Old Man Fu Yi was quite amusing on his own. There didn’t need to be the obligatory ‘netizens’ or showbiz. It could have been better consolidated, but ymmv.

I did have mixed feelings... more>> about the ‘antagonist.’

Spoiler

To be fair, he was suddenly no longer a ‘real’ member of a family that had raised him for 18 years. They even took his room away - both at home and at the family compound - and I would be salty, too.

[collapse]

The translation was great. Full marks for readability.

I just kind of got bored with it after a while? <<less

Hmmm although there are quite a few neutral and poor reviews for this novel, I would just like to say that I really dont think its that bad. There may be some plot holes and the plot is a little draggy, but the overall premise and idea is quite unique.
Spoiler

Usually we don't see 2 transmigrators in one novel itself (but fML thrs 3 actually) so I was quite intrigued by it.

[collapse]

There are quite a lot of cute and sweet scenes even though MC and ML only got together late. Basically slow burn :/ but the process is kinda cute so its okay. But one thing I have to say is that the ending is way too rushed. I would have really liked it if they expanded on the scene where the MC and ML openly revealed their real identities. BUT THEY DIDNT :) oh wells

Plot: 4/5

Romance: 4/5

Character: 4.5/5 (tho MC is a little too 'emotionless' at times)

Because the rating for this novel is way too low I decided to give it a 5 instead :")

Although they are obvious flaws, I'm giving this a 5* because I wasn't bored reading the entire thing. It's quite rare!!

At the end of the novel, I ended up liking their dynamic. But throughout the entire novel, I wasn't quite sure how I feel about them. The character Qi LeLe is also there until the end. It's quite refreshing to see the antagonist stay for this long. Overall, this novel sets out to entertain and it did. Even if some parts are amateur-ish or has technical flaws. Read up to c91 on chrysanthemum gardens

its pretty interesting and the relationship between the MC and ML is cute. I'll have to finish it before I make a final decision. There are moments of propaganda if that's something people want to avoid but it's only a few lines here or there.

I'm writing the rest of this review after finishing the story.

The nationalism/propaganda is strong at the very end of the story. Overall it felt like partially slice of life with heavy emphasis on the MC just... more>> excelling and being a genius when it comes to art and people repeatedly being shocked by it. This is what I expected from the story so it's fine. But don't expect much more. No brain cells needed and do not analyze deeply into the plot nor characters. The romance is second to that main plot. But still pretty strong. The only thing is that I expected more of the plot regarding the ogMC and related family and entertainment matters. But it's like the author started it strong and then simply gave up so they got some perfunctory lines and it was it. That was a bit disappointing. <<less

I usually don't read seme protagonist novels, but this one gets me into the pit because of the summary, the setting, and too late to check that this is a seme protagonist novel, and first I do like to tell you, somehow I feel a missing chapter on it, in chapter one author, writes about our MC doing something at first I think they will tell how he transmigration and when he read a novel that he is in it because he is an ancient people, who the heck ancient... more>> people write BL with entertainment background, and our ML too had the same issue, is like they telling us this is actually in the last part of introduction story, this novel had everyone gay on it except their parents and mc's friend, and the way their progress on their love story is too sudden for me, like the MC suddenly realise he falls in love with ML, Without abcde a bit dilemma and boom they got together, I feel this author failed to make a bridge between ambiguous period and got together, our shou is the active one in this relationship, he actually want to top our MC but in the end he being topped by our MC, tbh I feel the author is likely want to write a shou protagonist and in the end they cchange It, I got this hipotesis bcs they don't include high on the introduction and keep saying that our MC originally was the a shou villain of the original novel, aiya... <<less
