Yan Wushi had walked a path full of blood and corpses.

One day, Shen Qiao, who was the sect leader of Mount Xuandu, the number one Daoist sect under the heavens, was challenged to a duel but somehow fell off the cliff.

Yan Wushi happened to pass by down there.

This Novel is Amazing I can't wait to Finished it and know what will happen in the End.

Firstly: I'm so annoyed by Yan Wushi behavior he is totally not my ML Type I don't know if I'll change my mind about him in the future or not, but I like Shen Xiao he is My protagonist type but I also hate how he is so pure in the heart in a scum world like this. Even after all this betrayal from his Martial brother and Yan Wushi he still can't... more>> hate them and blame himself for his ignorance.

Secondly: This Novel plot is well developed and makes you live the suffering, sadness, happiness with the characters. I can say it is great as 2Ha.

Lastly, if you want to read this novel try to put your heart in ice or put ice instead of your heart in your chest because in every chapter you'll be angry because of Yan Wushi's s*upidness. I was so angry at him that I could be vomiting blood.

I'm going to continue reading the rest~~~ <<less

This is a great novel, very literary. Not so heavy on plot, but heavy on world building. This may not sell for light readers, but definitely lighter than the rest (probably because I read some spoilers). Admittedly, this can not hold my attention span so at most this is a 4-4.5 star for me. Im actually a light and romance only reader and only enjoyed a few novels that are mainstreamed, only reading it because I wanted to see the hype about them but ending up not thoroughly enjoying it... more>> because it is not my type. Dont get me wrong, this is a great novel but more on intricacies and not romance, and yeah, as I said, not my type.

The romance is subtle, and the story focuses more on Shen Qiao's journey. He's cute, beautiful and his growth is amazing. ACctually it really is a good novel, everything, growth, world building, side characters, motivation even the subtle romance is written so good. You'd enjoy it if you're in the mood and more on literary type of novels. Fanfic topes, face slapping peeps, not so much. <<less

I love Shen Qiao from the bottom of my heart and I also dislike Yan Wushi very much. It seems like Yan Wushi's love awakening happened in that one chapter in MTL that I skimmed, because I didn't understand why Yan Wushi suddenly realised he loved Shen Qiao after abandoning him in the temple.

Heartily recommend this novel (especially the MissEvan/猫儿FM audiodrama - chef's kiss) to fans of wuxia, growth journeys, and opposites-attract romances. This novel features a Daoist MC that you cannot help but root for and admire (he moved me to tears several times), a complex and intriguing ML (that I grew to care and swoon a bit for - the voice actor takes much credit too), and a satisfying wuxia and political intrigue-filled plot. This story does not contain as much romance, flirting as some others nor as much comedy (as... more>> eg MDZS) but is instead mature and serious.
It didn't have me fangirling throughout but was a lovely companion during these dreary winter days reminding me that 'this too shall pass' and that sticking to one's values and way of life is worth it.
I'm going to check out Peerless next ;) <<less

I read this after watching the donghua (I highly recommend the donghua - Yan Wushi has the most divine voice! "A-qiao~") and it ended on a cliffhanger. I wasn't disappointed.

The story is great - has some fluff but is also full of political intrigue so it's a story you have to read with some concentration, keep aside time for it. The romance is of the slow burn variety - very realistic and full of hope.

Shen Qiao is cute, yes, but read it for Yan Wushi!

I must be honest my first trigger to read this novel is because it's animation that just pass by in front of me. And I was really triggered by how flirty Yan wushi were with Shen qingqiu. And I just want to know more about the novel itself.

Even though the novel were not us flirtius as the animation, and Yan Wushi is more villainous than what you can imagine (at least for me, that's just too much).

But I end up loving the story itself. I kind of understand where this... more>> story heading to. Like a villain can be a real bad because they're are the villain. And the order of this novel has done a really good job in terms of how to make the main couple has come to path together. I mean the villain with his sponsor and the protagonist with his belief and what he stands for. That's really interesting and give you a some new insights of how things could be.

I have to say I really have an admiration for Shen qingqiu. I know he's not real in this world but just being the figure of the story itself was admirable and gave me some wisdom. And even though Yan wushi was that bad, there's also some point of view or inside that you can learn from him.

So far anyone that haven't read this story I really encourage you to try and read this novel. It's very slow burn and slow paced I could say but it's very worth it. For me it has a good plot, good storyline. Hope everyone can enjoyed it as much as I do. <<less

It's been so long since I read a novel as rich and deep as MDZS or Heaven Official's Blessing. Thousand autumns has its flaws: quite a bit of political drama that sometimes I skipped, so the pacing is rather slow, and I'll never forgive Yan Wushi for betraying Shen Qiao. I don't care about it being in line with his personality. There's no excuse. If Shen Qiao hadn't been able to defend himself and fight back, he'd have ended terribly bad. I don't even want to think about it.

In any... more>> case, this novel is totally worth it. The strong to weak to strong cliché is SO good, and Shen Qiao is such an angel. It was super satisfying to ser how wrong YW was about SQ, how impossible it was to corrupt and bend a soul so righteous, gentle, genuine and stubborn as SQ. Suck it up, YW! When he finally accepted and admitted this fact I was so relieved. FINALLY. We were going to get our sweet fluff. Well, it wasn't that sweet, with a lot of teasing and resistance, but totally worth it. I had a lot of fun watching them slowly fall for each other, specially SQ, since he took longer to realise and accept his feelings for YW.

On the other hand, some of the extras were lovely. There was one in which SQ turned 6 years old and another one in which we get to witness how the relationship between SQ and Yu Ai was when they still were children. It was precious.

This story is really good but at some points I couldn’t help but feel bored. Luckily I stuck with it and got through it. It was really rewarding, at least to me. I read it only for the main couple, so that’s probably why I didn’t enjoy it as much as I should have. Wasn’t in the right head space ig. Uhm, one of the challenges I faced was actually finding how I could read it. I had to look through a lot of different sources via google and this... more>> site. Eventually I got through it. Shen Qiao is inspiring and has actually made me question and consider how I can give more kindness to the world. Seriously seriously loved his character. Unfortunately, this story was 5/5 before the big turning point in the story (huge spoiler below). I actually really enjoyed the turning point, and it ends up turning into a huge boon for the MC. However, some time after the turning point, the well-built characters start to deteriorate as a result.

And Shen Qiao was amazing before this turning point (and slightly after it). One... more>> of my fav characters on the website. How he handles all the bumps in the road in his life is inspiring and felt very real. It is so refreshing that we get this kind righteous character that always is looking for the kindness in the world rather than the darkness. He is not naive but a good person that has no regrets about getting taken advantage of because there absolutely is good in the world, and even one good deed can change someone's entire life (something we see). 10/10 character. My problem comes in the second half of the story where his character starts to feel forced/unauthentic due to his reactions to certain characters.

Spoiler

The ML betrays the MC after MC confides to ML that he considers him a friend. I actually loved the betrayal because the reasons for why it happened and the MC's response to it felt very organic. The ML wants to see our righteous MC break because he believes that everyone is evil and he is thrilled to see his descent into madness. The ML does this by disabling the MC, and then gives him to his enemy who wants to ra** him and then absorb his Daoist core. MC manages to escape by shattering his own car like a bomb that then lets him escape. It actually works out because shattering his core allowed him to have higher growth potential.

HOWEVER, this is done well initially but then the characters start doing things that don't make sense. Initially, the MC ignores the ML and feels nothing but apathy. But the MC needs to save the ML for the greater good as the ML is protecting a country from destabilizing. Despite being saved, the ML suffers great losses and ends up with a split personality temporarily. Totally out of character, the MC befriends one of the side personalities and even cries after the ML declares he has fixed his core/split personality. The way their friendship/romance progresses does not feel authentic at all and ML does not regret doing what he did (quote below). Basically, the MC realizes that the ML always said he couldn't be trusted and that he is not a good person, so the MC feels that the betrayal was somewhat on him. Eventually, the ML does kind of make an except for the MC because he realizes he's different and that the MC is truly a good person. Despite all this, the ML openly admits he has no regrets about giving the MC to be gang ra**.

"Yan Wushi laughed loudly: "I never regret handing you off personally to Sang Jingxing—not then, and not now. Yet here you are with the opportunity to witness me experience such misfortune, and wearing such a grief-stricken face! Ah-qiao ah, Ah-qiao. You've really disappointed me! You should be rejoicing in my disaster, you should be celebrating deep inside! How could you possibly wear such a pitiful look?"

4.75/5 stars

Entertaining read but tries to be overtly philosophical (without filters) and therefore can come across as contrived at times.

I have to admit that I do not prefer white lotus-like, righteous saints as characters inherently (Be it Xie Lian or Shen Qiao), I prefer them humane and flawed.

... more>> And that's not what happens here though admittedly Shen Qiao annoyed me lesser than Xie Lian did because he wasn't indiscriminate about his kindness.

Let's start with the Cons:

Plot armour- Listen, I don't mind plot armors as long as they don't hold a significant weight and impact within the narrative. But that's not what happens here- time and time again Shenqiao is miraculously saved by side characters extremely fortunately or simply on the author's whims at every point he falls. And this level of security from external sources that most of the time have no correlation to the choices he himself made (due to plot armour) is made an example as to why Shen Qiao is an amazing person and why his virtue and world view are the ultimatum. The fact that he thrived despite his stubborn allegiance towards righteousness is a recurring point in the story that carves out Shen Qiao as a divine incarnate and one with the most profound way of life- is kind of laughable because he only survived due to something miraculously batsh*t happening to him or other people saving his ass.

Characters- The characters themselves are not bad but there's a lot of glorification going on so heads up for that. There's also a bit of obvious sympathy garnering going on with regards to Shen Qiao so beware of some very excruciatingly cringe-worthy lines and circumstances every damn chapter until he regains his lost reputation.

Plot- A good one with insider schemes and convoluted relationships. In fact this is one of the most nuanced aspects of the entire novel- how the plot manages to maneuver character development in correspondence to politics and external conflicts. Loved that part... And the numerous fight scenes. The martial battles left a very thrilling and sensational feeling behind and would remain some of the most memorable literary combats ever, time immemorial. (Although the haphazardous exaggeration had me rolling my eyes at times and had me wondering how tf a sword sweep can look like a thousand flowers blooming across the sky and go across an entire blooming process from blossom to withering away).

Pros:

Characters- Lots of morally grey characters except ofc the MC. I liked our mans, the big name- the last boss and the seme/gong YWS. With his questionable morals and very perceptive insight into the ruthless world they living in- I loved him for the most part. His arrogant, domineering, I-don't-give-sh*t attitude was an absolute delight in comparison to the almost non-existent celestial behaviour Shen Qiao exhibits.

The truth is, Shen Qiao never saw true desperation and even if he did, his choices must have left him absolutely helpless (not a plot diving in to save his sorry ass all the time). One of my favourite characters within in the entire story is Chen Gong - whom a vast majority of people hate for what I would like to proclaim a 'personal bias because of Shen Qiao syndrome'.

So, spoilers ahead:

Spoiler

Honestly I’m also irked by the fact that people are this bothered by what Chen Gong did- as if what he did to SQ was any different from what YW to others. Sure, he “might” deserve death on the principle that he tried to take SQ’s life several times through betrayal but he absolutely didn’t deserve to be told “You don’t deserve to practice martial arts” by SQ because, honestly? It’s not upto him. SQ had no part in his martial journey except maybe as a muse or coincidental trigger and that doesn’t warrant him to tell all that- negating Chen Gong’s life outlook as if his outlook is the only one that’s worthy. And when I tell CG “might” deserve death that also principally means, Yan Wushi also deserves death – just not by SQ’s hands because he atones for what he did and will probably sacrifice something great for SQ in the future but... What about other people who were subjected to injustice by Yan Wushi? Clearly he deserves death but nobody dares. Because he’s bloody powerful and that’s what CG so desperately seeks throughout the course of the story. That goes onto show how, in a dog-eat-dog world like the Jianghu Chdn Gong’s philosophy works so well. Honestly? I liked the man. Sure, he was shitty. But so are people – and humanity in general. Mans was just unlucky to have met somebody like SQ as his stepping stone. If it were anybody pretty sure he’d have succeeded and lived an extremely prosperous life (Because that is how reality works lmao 🤣🤣 or he’d have been THE boss if this was a palace drama setting and SQ with his virtuous agenda would have died long ago in the hands of the monstrous politicians if we go by reality). Also YWS himself says at some point I can remember “You’d have fallen for schemes long ago but you need not worry because I am beside you”

Basically – somebody has to get their hands dirty to survive a treacherous world like this one and that person simply doesn’t happen to be SQ because people are ready to do it in his behalf or he’s crazy protected by plot mechanisms 🤣🤣

Doesn’t mean everybody who tries to survive like CG are inherently horrible or that they absolutely deserve all this hate or have their life value trampled on. What Shen Qiao did right there is no less cruel by denouncing his life values and though mans had his death coming for quite a while now, he is not as evil as people make him out to be. He’s just morally grey and is an excellent reflection of humanity in general.

A great character whose death is well deserved but saddening nonetheless

[collapse]

Another character I loved was Bai Rong... I mean GAL POWER YA'LL. What more need I say?

Shen Qiao is not detestable- infact I'd argue he's moulded to be loved and lovable and that's why people (both readers and secondary characters) find him irresistibly appealing I presume. However, ot doesn't change the fact that Shen Qiao is an unattainable ideal, especially within the fictional universe Meng Xi shi constructed because it is a ruthless world and Shen Qiao with even a semblance of realistic flow - would die a miserable death than the most backstabbing piece of sh*t out there.

Maybe that's why Shen Qiao is less than a favourable character to me. And because this story is the epiphany and an In depth examination of Shen Qiao's journey, it falls shorter than a masterpiece in many ways.

Doesn't mean it's not enjoyable or average. It's definitely above average but not quite at the 'God tier' level. Beautiful nonetheless. <<less

Honestly, the novel was very well written, I had fun reading it, especially towards the end.

There were so many people and names to keep track of, props to the Author for remembering all those folks, because I sure had a hard time with it, which is why it's a four and not higher. It's not a bad book by any means, but it does deal with heavy themes at times, not to mention, Yan Wushi is an a**hole. A clever a**hole, and one that's entertaining to read, but by god... more>> can he piss you off.

Shen Qiao is a really good person to deal with this guy.

However, there was just one thing that... not necessarily irked me, but could've been done better towards the final chapter. Spoilers below, obviously.

Spoiler

Admittedly, it's a small nitpick, but I had thought towards the end of the book Shen Qiao would have offered to dual cultivate with Yun Wushi, because it was already established that virg*ns have a special power and that could've aided Yun Wushi in the fight. Yun Wushi wouldn't have needed to accepted it and had s*x with Shen Qiao, but I was surprised that it didn't happen at all, or that it wasn't something Shen Qiao would've considered in the slightest given by the translation towards the end where it says 'he was racking his brain for any way to aid [Yun Wushi]' (or something to that effect).

Again, it's a small detail, and it may have extended the novel's length a little, but it would've been a neat way to tie in some of the extras and the subsequent consequences of the action. It's also why the novel is a four and not higher.

This novel is wonderful; the plot is great; there are so many plot twists; and it is well written too. The synopsis indicates that the story revolves around the MC, how he was betrayed, and how he will deal with that. Of course, this is part of the story, but only a small part; the story itself is more complicated because it involves politics, changing dynasties, and uniting countries.

The characters are well-rounded and interesting. MC is naive, soft-hearted, and kind—too kind, in my opinion. There were a few occasions where... more>> a normal person would go crazy and want revenge, but our MC stays calm and is understanding. What I liked most about him was that, despite being soft, he wouldn't let others bully him. He is strong and has his own beliefs and principles. Even after betrayal and slander, his kindness was mocked and repaid with evil, but he didn't change and stayed true to himself. You can't help but admire him. ML is eccentric, does what he wants, and doesn't believe in kindness. Sometimes his actions are really maddening and unforgivable, but at the end of the day, he is still likable because he is who he is; he doesn't deceive people and doesn't pretend. Those two are really different; to put it simply, one is good and the other is bad, yet their being together makes sense. Their interactions are hilarious, basically because ML has thick skin and constantly shamelessly flirts with pure MC, whose reactions are cute and funny.

Side characters are interesting too; some are cunning and evil, some are dumb, and some are frank and kind. Some characters are so evil you can't stand them, but they make the novel more exciting.

At first glance, you can tell that this isn't comedic work; there were too many situations when I was too worried for MC and my heart was beating wildly, but there were situations when I busted out laughing too. This is a great story with a good plot, interesting characters, and plot twists. It is definitely worth reading. <<less

This was a interesting story. The struggles of the MC coupled with all the fighting made it exciting to read. It ends kind of abruptly but the story continues into the extras so it makes up for it. If I have one complaint its the BL aspect of the story. Even without the BL aspects the stor woukd have been a good read but there's no logic behind this pairing. When it comes down to the ML's sudden change in feelings for the MC it just happens overnight without any... more>> progress or reasoning behind it so it feels forced. I'm not convinced about the pairing at all and it's not until you read into the extras that there's any indication that the MC even has any feelings for the ML and that seems forced as well. Overall it was a pretty good read as long as you don't expect it to contain typical elements of BL. <<less

It was my first chinese novel and I don't regret reading it, politic's part was bit confusing, also with so many characters keeping track of who is who was quite difficult but overall it was worth my time.I am gonna miss Shen Qiao and Yan wushi so much.🥺

For new readers you should definitely give this a shot, Yan Wushi will be quite not hell lot annoying but in 90th chapter he's " NOW I'M FALLING DEEPER BABY BE PREPARED". Their character development was on point.

Ireally wanna be like Shen Qiao... more>> being my true orignal self not letting this world change who truly I'm. Alas!such thinks can only happen in friction. (I really miss my old self)

Another thing, for anime director, can we see 107th chapter's SQ &YWS scence in anime pleasssssssssss 🥺🥺👉👈 <<less

this book is a book concerned about living in accordance to Taoist principles in a corrupt power-based society. Shen Qiao, the main character, embodies Taoist principles. he is thrown into many horrible situations and it is in his response to these situations and people that his strength of character shines. this is actually very similar to tgcf's core message, but this novel goes much deeper into it. also attica's review on novelupdates sums up the strengths of this novel really well.

i loved the first half -- it was a deep... more>> exploration of taoism and the values that taoism espouses. there were a lot of emotionally charged and moving scenes, and I really felt for Shen Qiao. I loved the way he responded to things and he really shows that strength is more than just strength or being cold and hard. the second half of the book was really just lots of politics, the 'brain-injury-causing-split-personality' trope, fake deaths... I just can't... I started to skim

this was written in older Chinese and while the writing is beautiful, it is quite difficult to understand! I had to read with a dictionary. there were phrases and descriptions taken directly from the Tao Te Ching and it piqued my interest in Taoism. <<less

But if you were here for the romance like me, you can prepare to be a little dissapointed.
