the war arc is not only focusing on Chungmyung’s POV and Jang Il-so always seems several steps ahead from Chungmyung. Honestly, I would love it if the author can focus more on Chungmyung. I don’t know how to explain it properly but it gets me dizzy that the author has to explain every tiny details about everyone, even the side character which will die anyway at the same chapter. I started reading the novel because of Mount Hua and Chungmyung but the author is focusing too much on others. There is too much characters on the novel. Even the reminiscing of the past of a not so important side character. The author will write 5-6 episodes which will not even mention Chungmyung or what they’re up to now.

Sometimes I feel like skipping a chapter but I still like the writing and the ideas of the author. I appreciate them a lot. I know how difficult it is to write a novel like this. <<less

Absolutely love this. His quirky attitude though too overly harsh sometimes. The fights are intense and cool, his breakdown and emotion turmoil is so sad but to other occasion, its too funny. I like the loyalty and camaraderie. Can't say its a perfect one since readers has their own preferences in novels' after all but still for me, its a chef's kiss.

Comedy is there
MC is not ruthless, at least not at start.
He is childish, whole plot is light hearted
i was expecting it to be ruthless, idk why, maybe cuz someone said its no romance and ruthless MC.
Feel like I am reading Douluo Dalu, grown up MC who is childish now supporting people around him and going on a good walk (journey of plot armor)

I don't like it, feel like a book for newbies honestly. Anyway don't go on this review or rating, thats just my personal opinion. I wanted to rate it 0, but book is not bad so I end up giving 3/5 even though its not the type I lilke.

Only thing I will say to you is, Its not some heartless ruthless guy out for revenge or something or even ruthless.
Its comedic in nature, and light hearted. Supporting people left and right and going with the wind.
Ruthless actions? Rationality? Pragmatic? Since MC is adult, should he act like adult?
So you will not find it here. Best comparison I can think is, Douluo Dalu (my first novel, so enjoyed it. Now I just have so many complaints so many years later, that I can't read such plot ever, so my opinion is simply based on the fact that I expected this novel to be something else, which it isn't)

I came after reading the manhwa which had surprised me by how engaging it was (go check it out I think it’s better than the novel).

The novel is fine, and I will keep reading it, but it’s not the best thing ever. The writing itself is a bit poor, there’s a lot of « gossip dialogue » where people who have nothing to do with the story give us a rundown on how the crowd reacts to events, and whenever the MC Chung Myung does something there’s at least four... more>> people who exclaim a variation of « shocking!!! ». These aren’t uncommon in Asian novels of this type but it can get tiring to read as it breaks the pacing. Ironically it works great in manhwa format as the tiny dialogues of background characters. In fact I felt as if I was reading the script for the webtoon sometimes instead of a novel. It does occasionally get a few tears out of me, and lots of silly smiles too which is a plus, it just doesn’t do it as well as it could. So not the worst, but not great either.

What I do love about this story is that the struggle is believable despite Chung Myung being OP. He wants to revive his sect and it’s not as simple as him being strong and leading them. While the plot does tend to end in his favor (it is that kind of story) it feels as if it’s because he’s always looking for every opportunity to help his sect rather than because the author is making it that way. To the MC every new person he meets or situation he’s in is to be used to build a stable future for Mount Hua or cast out of the way of Mount Hua. And this is not a role he is comfortable with, in fact the way he goes about it is often unnecessarily complicated and involves at least one fight (it’s that kind of story) and a few half truths, the reason it works is because he knows that for stability he needs to make sure the other side gets something they need too. Because he’s focused on strengthening his sect he makes leaps of logic that others take time to reach and it’s a believable struggle.

Another thing I like is his approach to revenge, in his first life he was absolutely the kind to take revenge immediately, and he definitely wants to in his new life. But he’s very clear that it isn’t his goal or purpose. Oh he takes the opportunities when he can, but he’s also avoided them a few times when the outcome wouldn’t be advantageous for his sect, and that’s rare in OP MCs.

In conclusion it’s a good story (translation is good too though the writing style isn’t my taste that’s not the TLs fault). I recommend checking it out, but I completely understand why some people wouldn’t like it, and I do think it’s a bit overrated as a novel.
Definitely look for the manhwa though, much better format for this story and it’s beautifully made, I can tell those who made it were amongst those who loved the source material and they did an amazing job. They were able to draw out the subtleties of the characters feelings constantly which gives a lot of depth where the novel only occasionally succeeds. <<less

I love this novel very very much I came here because of webtoon

I used to get booked up to every series before I read this novel but... in short this novel raised my standards Lol

What are they saying? It's only trust me I am on c678 and it's has serious moments which makes it seems like it wasn't making crackling like a villian a while ago

And it's also has sad moments which make me cry so much sobing in a corner

People are saying they have problem with everyone praising the MC but who can't?

What would you say to a baby who suddenly solved a high class math problem everyone couldn't? Cherish him of course that's how his achievements in murim world are. f*ck the bad reviews.

Chung myung (MC) is type of a guy that doesn't need protagonist title but the title protagonist needs him he is smart yet dumbest person you'd ever discover AND I guarantee nobody can beat him argument because all he knows is true facts and bullsh*t

But in later chapters people make Chung myung have seizures and foam at mouth LOL it's so hilarious our grandpa though he's only batsh*t crazy about but met another one crazier than him

His conscience = -25% (goes -20% to -10% to +15%) what you thought he wouldn't have development

And other characters- oh how I wish I had friends like them in real life...

Anyways I ranted

You'll not regret this I am telling you the author builds up hype as easy as breathing he doesn't use action to build up hype but the way with words and stories/plot

And when there action it's good but when Chung myung steps up it's more exciting

And with one human garbag- I mean- ahem a character

That character's name is jang IIso with chapter I am on he didn't fight much but whenever he is mentioned or appears the- the-

I don't know how to describe but whenever he there the atmosphere is..

And Shaolin bangjang and heavenly demon (tf he still mysterious but he's described so scary and powerful)

In this novel the author did just justice to name 'cultists' to point of describing them as fanatics which they should be oh how I like it they are not every wuxia cultists they are real fanatics

The elders- they are so- I don't know how to summarise them but they are very hardworking and it's a miracle without any financial support they had kept sect open and it was not closed already and keeping 100 disciplines healthy oh how it's miracle.

And let me tell you one thing Chung myung makes everyone go crazy and make them scream out of frustration crazy how in the past his sahyung- well almost spoiled- anyways if I met a person like him- no if there is a person like him on earth (there shouldn't be or we're doomed) well..

10/10

It's my first time review on anything so I don't know..I just ranted what I like (only one 0.1%)

I finished reading the manhwa and when there was still no news of 2nd season, I started the manhwa and I'm loving it!

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the novel itself. It never feels like I'm reading filler and the pacing isn't too fast or too slow. It's been a thoroughly enjoyable read so far.

The only reason I didn't rate this a 5/5 is because at a certain point the translation quality started to get progressively worse. At first the translation quality was great, I had zero complaints. Unfortunately it at some point became mildly worse which I didn't really have a problem with either. Great translation or... more>> good translation is fine with me. Sadly though at the chapter I'm currently reading (c416), the translation quality is far worse then it was to begin with.

While it is still absolutely readable and far better then edited MTL, it is definitely bad enough that it's lowered the enjoyment of the novel and honestly lowers the quality of the novel as a whole. Thus I could only give it a 4/5 even though this novel when translated well is probably my favorite.

Edit: Translation quality has reached an all time low as of chapter 500. It's to the point where it's actively ruining the authors work. If you're okay with MTL then it's fine but if you want anything more then I no longer recommend this. TL;DR Great novel with good translation for first 200 chapters. Translation gets worse until it's terrible at chapter 500. <<less

5 stars. Reason? Simple, in the vast world of Korean novels (specifically Korean Novels) finding something that reads this good without ruining a novel is very, I mean, very hard. I started reading this novel when I found out the manhwa version of this. Love it. In every aspect this novel is top of the run, you've got characters you would love, fights that are not flashy and more realistic. Characters are not you know, those young master-ish like idiots, every characters has it own work to do. If we... more>> talk about the flow and setting, it's your normal but well-executed story that the author knows what he or she (?) is doing. Now if we talk about the translation quality which is being done by SkyDemonOrder, it's flawless, be it the vocab or editing, it's just good.

One of the bestest novel I've ever read. Chung Myung (the MC) feels like a human, not some generic cold OP robot that doesn't have a personality. He is well written as much as the other characters that are linked with the MC. The emotions are well driven and the progress are observed really well. The MC is also someone who does not only focus on himself but for the sake of his own sect as well. I am loving it!!!! I finished the season 1 of Manhwa and can't get enough of our Mount Hua Sect peeps as well as Chung Myung and his gangs crazy adventures. You'll laugh, enjoy every dialogues, fight scenes are superb and you'll definitely shed tears. Over all, this series is definitely worth reading it!

If you are scrolling through the reviews to check if reading this is worth it, then trust me, it is.

I'm sure there are many other better reviews explaining how good the novel is, but I'm simply sharing my insight on it as well.

If you like op mc's and a story that you can understand without it being too comedic or too serious, this is for you. I'm not saying that it isn't a comedy, but I'm saying that there are certain moments where it being serious fits in perfectly and... more>> the plot is just amazing, to me at least.

Almost every chapter can leave me with a good laugh, and I'm always expectant and excited for the next chps. So, if you are looking to binge read a novel, or are simply just looking for a good read, you have found it. <<less

Highly recommended! I like the MC and how the writer described him and his personality - he's brash, uncouth, a total bandit, but he has his adult/mature/responsible moments. The interactions between the disciples and the elders were hilarious. I just find the number of chapters daunting (and it's still ongoing!), but since I'm enjoying the story, it's all good.

One observation/comment, there's a lot of dialogue (vocal or internal) in the story, and sometimes it gets confusing on who's talking or saying what or thinking what. Not sure if it's the... more>> Korean language structure and that's just how the translation come out... <<less

I'm not good at detailed reviews so, here it goes.

MC is reborn years later in a little kids body, he goes looking for his Sect only to find it, at its worst;its poor, has been kicked out of the ten sects or alliance?, the other apprentices are talentless (lol)

And he was pissed off lol, just thinking about it is funny. He was strong and famous in the past, and fought against the demons.

He's reborn and he gets to see the consequences of his past actions (which were noble btw), he saved the world however, overtime chaos came to his Sect.

I like his carefree character, he is serious about his Sect however, it's more like a family to him.

Most of the side characters he runs into have some sort of enlightenment, lol it's called character development right? :) Like Baek Cheon, he was the stereotypical, senior brother who is known as the "strongest" and has influence among the others, he flaunts his power and creates a clique or a gang, and doesn't like it when some1 Is stronger than him or is beteer than him and he has a huge Inferiority complex, after MC beats him up, he woke up and even realised that he was a brat. One of the characters, wanted to marry the MC but after seeing how power dictates and rules, she decided to use it for herself after all who wouldn't wanna have a say in theyre own destiny

To be honest, I just wanna see the rise of Mount Hua, Idc about the other characters <<less

It's undeniably a really good story. As everyone else said, it's a good mix of funny and epic.

Nethertheless, there is weaknesses in the writing, a lot of unecessary repetition, which can make the reading a little bothersome. That's why I feel like it's better to read the webtoon, which doesn't countain these failings.

Really it's one of the more refreshing novels out there, I would highly recommend you give it a try.

It's very well written and the author doesn't drag things out for word count or padding. He gets straight to the point and just gets things done. It doesn't leave the reader tired and waiting for something to be over with.

To me the MC really is my favourite thing about this novel, I just really like his personality and how he deals with things. He's funny but he's also serious in what... more>> he does. He's the type of MC who is very straight forward and will just do what he wants to get things done, he doesn't really care too much about what others think of him. This leads to a lot of funny situations and the interactions between the MC and the side characters can be pretty amusing. <<less

If anyone searching for Reincarnation, Cultivation and OP MC, this is the novel but I kinda like novel that have System, OP MC, Reincarnation, cultivation/leveling and martial arts but somehow, I don't this novel.

In short summary, MC reincarnation with all his memories and techniques except for his cultivation (basically, every reincarnation lost his cultivation/level so, it normal). As MC already know all the techniques, his spend most of his times to train his fellow Mount Hua Sect disciple because the sect become ridiculously weak.

What I think it not interesting is... more>> that this novel, Author NEVER show MC CULTIVATION or GROW. We never know his cultivation realm the whole times.. We donno any character cultivation level or how to see the MC grow/progress to getting stronger. Even after his close training indoor, Author never bother to showcase how much MC grow.

MC already know all the technique and it not like MC learn any stronger martial technique, but still keep using the same technique and cultivation as his past life. No upgrade al all.. It getting boring the more the story go on..

Basically, you will just see this novel is about the Mount Hua Sect as MC rather than individual.. Of course the person who reincarnated that increasing Mount Hua Sect fame and strength but you will never see Author love on this individual.. As I said, this novel is about Mount Hua Sect that grow stronger rather than the person reincarnated. Not sure if you like this type of novel, but you can just read it until you guys find it boring.. The novel kinda interesting at the beginning.. You can see the wiki for this novel, but you can never find this MC cultivation level. A novel about cultivation but no cultivation level introduction or not even mention about it. You just keep read this novel without knowing anyone level/strength. I kinda hard to gaging anyone strength when there a fight.. Author show no guide in cultivation level/grow at all.. <<less

Honestly and with the war arc coming up (well at the time of this review, I will have finished the novel in a few days at the pace I’m at, already at chapter 400 and started two days ago) I can only wait to see how much better it gets. regardless I love how our MC is ruthless as hell, and how the other side characters also get there own glory like Yoon Jong Baek Cheon and Yu Yuseol (I think it’s how it’s spelt?) All and all a very top tier novel. Hard to find faults unless you see the constant op ness but that’s only fair the man is has lived his life to becoming strong so of course he would be. The story is well fleshed and everything is explained in an entertaining and endearing way, with some of the knowledge up to us to find out.

The great thing about this novel is the MC or more exactly is the MC Sharp mouth and way of thinking. This novel is hilarious as hell. If you don't believe me you can read the manga. This Novel is recommended for someone who like action with a touch of comedy.
